Trans Pokemon: The Real First Trans “Trainer”!

Many a Pokemon fan know the story of Beauty Nova, the first known trans Pokemon Trainer (the first non-cis Pokemon include Magnemite, Magneton, Voltorb, Electrode, Staryu, Starmie, Mr. Mime, Ditto, Porygon, the Legendary Birds, Mewtwo and Mew, if I’m correct)!

...or so we thought.

Yes, one should stan Nova, but even she mustn’t forget her history.

Pokemon X & Y, which features the Battle Maison where Nova first appears, is a 6th Generation game. This technically-unnamed character came one generation earlier, but I don’t blame him for being mostly unknown. 

He appeared in Pokemon Conquest, a side game that received a bit less love than others (Conquest fans represent)...

Sadly, there needs to be a general backstory before I can show you. When upgrading areas in a kingdom, sometimes a brand new one will appear, and a cutscene will occur introducing it. This usually happens when increasing the first battle area to Level 2 (there’s 3 total). 

In one such cutscene, two elderly gentlemen discover the area in question (I believe it was the Farm stage). The thing is that the sprite given for the second gent (who is referred to as Old Man) is seen on female characters (though their historical counterparts were male) such as Ekei, Sekiso, Gen’an, Sessai and Tenkai.

Here’s proof:

You know, transphobes/TERFs/et cetera, if you can accept some Pokemon as genderless (ex. Porgyon2 and Porygon-Z, Unown, Baltoy and Beldum families, Solrock and Lunatone, Bronzor family, Klink and Golett families, Cryogonal, Carbink, Minior, Dhelmise, and almost all of the Pokemon universe’s literal hecking deities) or able to be different genders than in previous stages (i.e. Azurill and Shedinja), then it doesn’t seem too crazy to do the same simple thing with real-life humans.

Oro: I actually had a snake, not an octopus, appear in Kuujima. There are a lot of animals that didn't make it into the manga, and ideas that I couldn't include. Also, it was difficult to draw mantises and other insects. Although they are insects, I wanted to give them an animal-like fleshiness, so I had to be very creative in how I expressed or arranged them. Also, there are people who don't accept insects physiologically, so I had to deform them in a way that wouldn't make those people feel uncomfortable.
