Thoughts
Spoilers for latest Gen:Lock ep. You know the drill.
Some interesting thoughts prompted by the sudden revelations in the most recent episode;
Cammie is basically a Shadowrunner/”hacktavist”, which makes me think that things are not exactly all that peaceful in the UK and that groups like Anonymous are still a thing. I wonder if the IRA is still a thing. I know they’re Irish but their shit stirred up all kinds of trouble for the UK as a whole.
Val/entina getting A) a scout/sniper and then kicked out of the mainline military because of transphobia is a nice touch, and provides some pretty good explanations for the shots we’ve seen in the show.
The fact that Holcroft mentions the JSDF as a thing means that Japan (and probably other countries too) still have at least self-defense forces. This may explain why the war has been going on for so long despite the Vanguard apparently only having the Anvil and its forces; the rest of Americas (theoretically) GIGANTIC military has been throwing itself against the Union while it tries to push west, and it has probably run into entire militias in the midwest.
And the fact that the Union hates “intellectuals”...now that’s interesting. Holcroft also mentions they steal technology. So does that mean that the Union is like the Covenant from Halo? Imitative, rather than innovative? They copy but they dont advance their own tech? And that anyone who thinks for themselves is punished? Intriguing.
That said; ROUGE TECHNOLOGY AIR AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION? Really RT? You couldn’t be ANY LESS SUBTLE? I understand they have a quick-step for this first season but at the same time holy shit is that convenient...

My Thoughts on The Union Holon/Mech
So, I figured I’d compile everything we have seen about the Union Holon/Mech and give my thoughts on it. For simplicity’s sake, I will be referring to it as a Holon, since it was
*There will be spoilers for the episode 5*
With its four arms, and durable armor and, perhaps to an extent, endoskeleton, it was able to tank through most weapons, and deal with multiple targets around it. It also has control over nanotech to form a large dome of nanotech around it.
The sniper shot that it took didn’t seem to do visible damage, but did knock it back and dazed it before retreating.
Plus, the twitching implies that Holon itself is still unstable or struggling to share control over most of the body (if it’s perhaps two pilots that control the Union Holon).
Some of the interesting things during this encounter were the fact that while it did decapitate Cammie’s Holon, it continued to tear into and expose (what I presume is) the core. The other thing was when Miranda spoke, checking on everyone. The Union Holon looks over for a brief moment before running off.
Those were my initial thoughts when it was first introduced, and I reserved any further thoughts until we would see it again.
<Spoilers begin here>
However, the second encounter in the latest episode this week had quite a bit, and leaves things pretty open for some of the possibilities that I saw regarding the Union Holon and who may be piloting it.
The Holon looks down towards Miranda and called out “Miranda” before Yaz jumps in.
Plus, when Cammie and Val/entina called it out, it said something to the effect of, “You think too loud. You haven’t shut up since your birthday.”
Lastly, and perhaps the most interesting among what it said to those who jumped in, it said either to Julian, or simply spoke out loud, “Let the good times roll.” It followed up with, “Copy...Kill copy,” while approaching Julian.
They continue to fight, managing to sever two arms, one from each pair, before it makes its escape once more.
These small lines from it certainly narrow down the possible pilots for this Union Holon. Someone who noticed and even called out Miranda, somehow knows Cammie to make such a comment, as well as stating the line from the favorite song of Julian’s father.
However, given the very last line “Copy...Kill copy,” it only makes me question if the pilot is a copy of Julian Chase, whether it be an A.I. program with his thoughts and memories or a full on clone. It could be possible that the nanotech that infected him could be a possible reason for the Union to be able to obtain such info on Julian, but only if the nanotech have that function. And with the line towards Cammie, if directed to Cammie, means that whatever copy of Julian they have, it’s recent.
Even if it isn’t a copy of Julian, the potential pilots could still be someone a part of, or have relations with, the Chase family. Perhaps even know enough about Miranda pause when hearing her voice and call her out when seeing her again, as well as the song lyric.
Regardless, no matter who it is, whether my thoughts here are right or wrong, I simply cannot wait to learn more about the Union Holon, and the Union in general.

Chase's tank is one of the most surprising things about him, but what are his thoughts it? Want more gen:lock on this channel? Let us know! It also intrigues me, but so far I have been unable to find any weapon design comparisons between the weapons in Gen:Lock and the real world. I find this odd, considering most every military of the current era and before has merely adapted or upgraded existing firearms until the point of complete obsolescence, and then often times merely rebuilt the interior or adapted it for the current combat situation.
Ex; the AR-15 becomes the M16 becomes the M16A1-3 which shrinks down into the M4 carbine which becomes the M4A1 and then so on. Or how the Garand became the M14.
50 years isnt a huge amount of time in terms of weaponry operational lifes (points to the nearly unkillable M2 Browning and M1911) so...where did all these new weapons come from? The same point as the Ether perhaps?
