digging out the eah content i created in a frenzy during last year’s summer of obsession part 1: my personal sapphic multishipping guide (created to explain to my friends which of these dolls i think should hold hands)
(more in-depth discussion of the ships below the cut)
the polycule that will take over ever after
kitty/lizzie; kitty/maddie; maddie/lizzie
self-explanatory. frequently purchased together do not separate. bonus shoutout to maddie canonically giving kitty a little kissie on the cheek and getting off scot-free in the books though. a wonderlandiful world was a banquet to me
cedar protection squad
once again a wonderlandiful world and once upon a time i owe you my life. kitty ESP being so adamant abt not giving a shit then turning around and fucking up those boys who were mean to cedar...... i love friendship
kitty/cerise
also self-explanatory. she was a catgirl she was a wolfgirl can i make it anymore obvious. also doribuki’s phenomenal fake dating fanfic....... transformative foundational transcendental
cerise/raven
YOU MUST UNDERSTAND. i entered eah a rapple shipper and exited the book series ready to burn at the stake for cerise/raven. book two was SO MUCH. it had everything. raven befriending cerise despite her attempts to isolate herself. texting in class. winking at each other. raven meeting the parents and hearing embarrassing baby cerise stories. cerise putting it all on the line to save raven. i’m ambivalent about shadow high but cerise gets literally one (1) mention and it’s in raven’s internal monologue wherein she equates cerise’s hood w feelings of warmth and safety. like how was that in any way necessary. i rest my case
raven & maddie
self-explanatory as well. dabesties. the ride or dies. it means so much to me that raven always has a friend in maddie no matter how many clowns and jokers (derogatory) treat her like the antichrist. maddie the character ever
raven/apple
WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN. the gelphie dynamic is a classic and i am EXTREMELY vulnerable to it. they are THE ship and i will pay my respects to the end of time. i am a big fan of how they trade their roles throughout the franchise and how rich the drama and history are between them. it’s pure fucking poetry.
raven/darling
TBH. a serve. the only thing juicier than evil queen/damsel in distress is evil queen/princess charming. big big fan of darling giving raven the five star princess treatment after a lifetime of being feared and shunned and vilified. equally big fan of raven’s momentous act of rebellion giving darling the courage to be true to herself. ALSO. the absolute archetype-subversion slay of the Pure-Hearted Hero(TM) confronting the Mistress of Evil(TM) and dropping their sword. looking through the smoke and mirrors and the will of Fate itself to see the girl who has wanted nothing but to be kind beneath. swearing their heart and soul and sword to the one true good they have found. picture it. i can almost see the 100-word drabble
raven/apple/darling
now THIS is just THE fairytale couple. the evil queen, the damsel in distress and the princess charming ALL holding hands and riding off into the sunset together. dappling on its own doesn’t do it for me but raven in the mix just makes everything gel perfectly. she’s the tomato in the ratatouille the cornstarch in the spring roll water, etc etc
darling/holly
this is one of those ships where i read a really convincing fic and the more i thought of it the more it just made sense. like they'd read swashbucklers and tales of courtly love together. holly would 100% write a darling placeholder in her self-insert romance fanfic pre-relationship as a way to express her feelings. darling would 100% find out and gently pull her out of the pit of sheer mortification she drilled into the ground to escape. also the height difference is a thing of beauty
safe from the polycule
duchess/poppy
they have one singular episode to their name and it was enough. it was Everything. the dynamic you can extrapolate from that one single interaction is so incredibly appealing to me. duchess’s bitchiness belied by her palpable air of vulnerability coming up against poppy’s spine of steel tempered by her skill in gaining perspective. poppy can challenge duchess into being a better person and duchess can be poppy’s character flaw like idk she just has shit taste in women that was the price she had to pay to be moisturized and unbothered by destiny. i just think they have the potential to be the unexpected, inexplicable power couple of eah
briar/faybelle
do i even need to say anything they had a whole movie to make their case. they’re rapple if rapple got their shit together before armageddon, with the bonus of a potential curse-breaking true love’s kiss for the fanfic authors to thrash between their teeth. truly unlimited. also unlike rapple where raven is 100% against being a villain and therefore it’s apple who has to do the mental gymnastics to open herself to the possibility of a relationship w raven, faybelle is just chomping at the bit to make her momma proud and presents a compelling perspective for the whole “falling in love w your fated nemesis” thing
blondie/cupid
they are icons, they are legends, and they ARE the moment. these two are so chaotic individually, what with blondie’s criminal skillset and habit of menacing innocent woodland creatures and cupid’s matchmaking powers combined w her shitty aim, that putting them together can only mean good things. there’s this whole element of their shared passion as public figures who at their best seek the truth and guide others through matters of the heart respectively that’s always interesting as a point of irony/obstacle when they start catching feelings and have to decide what to do with them. their joint youtuber/podcaster slay can level nations
#ever after high#mine#am i strong enough to tag them all#kitty cheshire#lizzie hearts#maddie hatter#cerise hood#raven queen#apple white#darling charming#holly o'hair#duchess swan#poppy o'hair#briar beauty#faybelle thorn#blondie lockes#c.a. cupid#that supernatural vlogger/actual god clondie au that was never finished still lives rent free in my head btw. i nurse my grief over it#like a baby: regularly while sighing over the future that could be#cupid and raven should also hold hands but not in this polycule universe

Oooo how about prompt 4 of the fluff list for gelphie??? 🙏😌
4. “What are you doing up?” “My personal heater went away.”
okay i tried writing this like. five times. and no idea i had stuck with me. but then this idea came out of left fucking field.
just bear with me. this au I've crafted for this prompt is not everyone.
imagine, if you will, some world where gelphie can have biological kids. whether it be through traditional means (amab enby elphaba) or IVF or maybe strange magical pregnancy. this fic explores that premise.
lots of people have Very Strong Opinions on the idea of gelphie as parents but like. just indulge me on this. i dont know what canon this is supposed to take place in so please dont ask!!
--
Glinda stirred awake, she'd been sleeping so restlessly all night. Pregnancy hadn't been nearly as bad as she'd expected in most aspects. Her bouts of morning sickness had been brief and relatively bearable, her cravings had been all within the realm of Elphie's culinary capabilities, and oh, her sweet dear Elphaba had been so incredibly supportive every step of the way. Maybe that's what had made the experience so pleasant thus far, having such an attentive and loving partner...
Still, no amount of doting could fix her sleeplessness, and she wriggled free from her sleeping partner's embrace to take a quick stroll to the bathroom. She stood up and stretched, realizing she'd need to hurry to the toilet-- the damn baby had situated herself (Glinda was dead certain that it was a girl) right atop her bladder in a manner that was most uncomfortable.
After relieving herself, Glinda took a moment to simply marvel at herself in the mirror. She was six months along now, and had the belly to prove it, complete with stretch marks that her younger self would have despised. But now, she found them almost endearing, a telltale sign of the love and commitment between her and Elphie, manifesting itself in the form of a new human life.
With a hand on her stomach, she spoke quietly.
"You're gonna have such an amazing life, little one. Your auntie Nessarose can't wait to meet you. She'll be your only real aunt, but Elphie and I have agreed to give the boys honorary uncle-hood. You'll have a blast with your Uncle Fiyero's kids, they're all so sweet. And Crope and Tibbs are thinking of adopting once you're born, it'll be like you have a sibling of your own, someone to grow up alongside."
Glinda gasped as the baby kicked. She looked up to see Elphaba standing in the doorway, smiling sleepily.
"And have I mentioned," Glinda said to her stomach again, "That you have the most beautiful, amazing parent in the world?"
Elphaba grinned, then knelt to the ground, pressing a kiss to Glinda's belly. "Hello, my son." (Elphaba was insistent that they'd be having a boy, a rather bold claim for someone who defied conventional gender standards.) They stood up and pecked a kiss to Glinda's lips, "And hello, my sweet."
"What're you doing up?" Glinda asked with a yawn.
"My personal heater went away." Elphaba said, pressing a kiss to Glinda's forehead, "I swear, carrying our son has made you so much warmer, literally."
"What can I say?" Glinda smiled, brushing off Elphaba's insistance that they were to have a boy, "Making an entire human is a lot of work, generates a lot of heat. Feel her, she's kicking!"
Elphaba placed a gentle hand on Glinda's abdomen, smiling as they felt the baby move slightly.
"I didn't just come here to find my beautiful space heater of a wife, you know." Elphaba said, "I came to make sure you were alright."
"I'm doing fine." Glinda answered, taking Elphaba's hand, running a thumb over their wedding band, "Baby hasn't been letting me sleep much as of late. So I've been passing time, telling them stories about just how loved they are going to be. By Nessa and my parents and the boys..."
"But by no one more than us." Elphaba said, kissing Glinda sweetly, "I can't imagine the toll this is taking on your body, but you're doing an amazing job and I'm so, so proud of you."
Glinda, who had never taken praise well, blushed. "Please, this is just a natural bodily process. I wouldn't be doing nearly as well as I am without your support and attention, and most of all, your love."
Elphaba grinned, picking up Glinda in a sweet embrace and lifting her to sit on the bathroom counter, kissing her soundly.
"I love you," Glinda whispered as they parted. Elphaba knelt down, placing a kiss on her stomach before getting to work massaging her aching feet, "You are too good to me, my dear."
--
Two and a half months later, the baby arrived. A healthy girl, who did not have Elphaba's green skin, but did have their raven hair. The midwife had insisted that she'd never seen a baby born with as much hair as her.
There was the matter of a name, then. Elphaba had been taken aback when Glinda had suggested her middle name be that of their mother, but they warmed up to the idea, and so, surrounded by joyous family and friends, they settled on what they'd agreed to be the perfect name: Indigo Melena Thropp-Upland.

do you know if any of the recent Bway Elphabas or Glindas are queer? feel like it elevates the show so much if so, i feel like just don't know how the performers feel about Gelphie/who is leaning into that element of the characters
That I know of, openly queer women who are playing/have played Elphaba on Broadway: Mary Kate Morrissey, Lissa deGuzman, Lindsay Pearce, Hannah Corneau.
And not on Broadway (unfortunately) but Cynthia Erivo is openly bi :)
For Glinda I only know of Suzie Mathers, who wasn't on Broadway either but still deserves to be mentioned because she was insane in the role.
#those are four of my favorite elphabas and one of my favorite glindas i'll let you connect the dots#asks

slept on it, here’s my more in depth review of the wicked movie musical :)
(spoilers ahead)
cynthia erivo’s vocals were everything i could have ever wished for and more
the choreography was also stunning, especially in what is this feeling and dancing through life. they really made good use of the medium
i’m so glad that they didn’t make ariana grande sing all the parts poppy like in hairspray live… her vocals were wonderfully musical theatre-y. personal opinion they could’ve been more musical theatre-y but ariana grande’s gonna ariana grande. i don’t think i could sing those parts even if i warmed up so don’t really have much room to judge
did i mention how amazing cynthia erivo’s vocals are?
erivo and grande fully understood the gelphie assignment. props
the instrumentals interpolating for good when there’s a gelphie friendship breakthrough moment? inspiring.
it felt like every fucking song had dialogue interjections (or at least waaaaaaaay more dialogue interjections than the musical, and way longer ones too). i get that they were trying to pad out the run time but it was so frustrating.
speaking of padding out run time, i’m actually kinda impressed how they managed to make act 1 fit in the run time of the full musical without actually adding any plot details
i said this when they announced it’d be a two-parter a few years ago and i’ll say it again, of all musicals to split into two parts, wicked is kinda a stupid one to split… it’s already a shorter musical. and these days people are used to 3 hour movies. personally i wish they would just put a ten minute intermission into the film like sound of music did. tbh sound of music should be the blueprint for any movie musical. it’s so good. i fucking love sound of music but i digress
loved seeing idina menzel and kristin chenowith cameo but fucking hated the way they did it. that part was unnecessary to one short day wtf. i hate it. actually ruined the song for me. i get they’re your classic theatre divas who have to be the center of attention but come on.
the costumes were fantastic. ariana grande looks washed out in that wig but whatever. also wish they had put her in colors other than pink but that’s nitpicky. the set design was also amazing (even if i wish it was less a one for one recreation of the original judy garland movie for munchkinland and rhe emerald city)
really loved the inclusion of poppies as a reference to the wizard of oz book and movie. don’t remember if that was in the musical since it’s been 7 years since i last saw it but it was a nice touch either way
they took away the emerald city goggles :( in baum’s original book, the emerald city isn’t actually fully green on the inside, it’s just the green-tinted goggles that everyone has to wear to “protect your eyes from the brightness of the emeralds” when actually they just make you think the whole city is built out of emerald when it’s actually just like. granite. they took away this detail in the movie but it was included in the stage musical, even it wasn’t as touched upon as the book
they changed the date rape potion that the ~mysterious man~ feeds to elphie’s mother to a normal aphrodisiac (or at least that’s what i assume based on the fact that ~mysterious man~ also takes a sip of it). (fans of the musical know who the ~mysterious man~ is but i don’t want to spoil it for movie-only watchers)
i love that they gave nessarose more agency. also so happy they cast a disabled actress
i still hate boq.

well, longer post for the wicked soundtrack (spoilers)
defying gravity: wow i nearly started crying lmao skjfngkfg either i'm in a Mood orrrr... nah i think it's cynthia's voice, she really gets all the emotion out somehow with her voice!! amazing. and it made me remember that i did get teary when i saw the stage show back in 2009. jemma rix, btw <3 (she was still the understudy back then i think?) (i had a crush on her for a bit haha)
anyway atm i'm just listening to all the tracks i usually listen to. first i listened to Dancing Through Life, then The Wizard and I, What Is This Feeling, Popular, I'm Not That Girl, One Short Day, Defying Gravity
oooh the high F sounds good in Defying Gravity (i just got to it (i'm listening and liveblogging/writing this lol))
i assume the new bit inserted into DG will make more sense after watching the movie
anyway, other comments:
one short day: i knew they'd be in it bc i saw spoilers, and i'm not bothered about spoilers/it doesn't dampen my excitement/i don't need to be surprised (someone was kinda rude/offended about it on reddit to someone else, as if everyone thinks the same as them skjfgnfg). anyway, One Short Day, the new bit is another of those moments where it'll make sense once i see the movie. so yeah XD nice to have the og there though
the wizard and i: glorioussss
i'm not that girl: reaaaally nice, then i felt like it got a bit overwrought towards the end BUT i'm sure it'll make more sense when i see the movie
defying gravity (again lol, i cbb trying to slot it back in up top somewhere): there's something about the long held un-vibrato(??) notes in the chorus bit which just get me every time. and because i hadn't heard cynthia's version till now/this is the first time, the whole emotional whatever of it hit me again. fun!! (as an aside i also really like jemma rix's voice, i might go watch the stage version i got off yt again after this)
okay so ariana's songs/voice: they're nice, she sounds a lot like chenoweth, but atm i'm not so into how... unpunchy her delivery is? idk. tentative opinion till i see the movie in about 3 weeks (rather than my usual 4-5 weeks for a movie that i want to see lol (look, i'm eager!!))
oooh now listening to the ozdust duet track! i didn't know what it was till i clicked on it and recognised the music. WOW IT'S SO ROMATICALLY GELPHIE PLS THEY'RE SLOW DANCING YOU CAN'T CONVINCE ME THAT THERE WEREN'T ~AND THEY WERE ROOMMATES~ SHENANIGANS like that beat is basically 80s (?) romance (??) slow dance (???) songs, IDK WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT, I WAS CLASSICALLY TRAINED, NOT POPULAR-MUSIC TRAINED (// to clarify/further explain, for some fucking reason my dad didn't let me listen to a lot/any popular music growing up, which he now fucking denies...! so now i'm a lil unsure but like I REMEMBER BEING A TEENAGER and him being like 'this is trash music, they can't sing' and so i had to listen in secret. and for someone who can't stand headphones/earphones (the feel of it), it was hard to listen to things lol. i heard more in primary school because primary school was more music-ey with the concerts and stuff)
anyway MUCH later i'll listen to all the other tracks i never listen to LMAO, i'm actually waiting for a better quality version than what yt can give me, so
aaand i'll add to this as i think of more things. gonna listen to all my fave tracks againnnn
ETA: ehehehe it's officially out at midnight my time!
more ETA
dancing through life: man jb's voice just makes me smile haha // I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HIM BE A SHALLOW LIL SHITHEAD // i like the new transitions in this, better than the other tracks (just from without seeing the movie yet), i think because there's always a lot of room to move with this one, no pun intended lol
ETA2:
forgot to mention yesterday but i LOVE what they did with the start of One Short Day, because it starts a minor 3rd higher than on the OST and i was like, whaaa are we really transposing it that high? and it (the vocals and stuff) was very nice. and then it dropped down into the usual key, and it just sounded GOOD and it fucked with you a bit. very nice

Femslash Ships to Get to Know Me
Thank you for the tags, @udaberriwrites and @mikaharuka!
Rules: Name at least five (but no upper limit) femslash (F/F) ships you love. Each from a different fandom.
Let's see... I'm not in that many fandoms, but I am easily lured in and influenced with femslash 🤣
Sabedala (Padmé Amidala x Sabé), in a surprise to everyone, right? from the Star Wars Prequels
2. PeggyNat (Peggy Carter x Natasha Romanoff) -- again, shocking everyone I am sure, from the MCU's What If...? series
3. Korrasami (Korra x Asami Sato) from The Legend of Korra
4. I'm cheating with this one, but on a technicality, I would like to say Jane Foster x Valkyrie from the main MCU universe (as opposed to the alternate one with PeggyNat 😂)
5. Harlivy (Harley Quinn x Poison Ivy) from the DC-verse--in any form but I was keeping with the gif theme of casual touches/looks by picking from the latest animated series
There's a handful of honorable mentions I could throw in here, like (since it's on my mind after just seeing the musical) Gelphie, or Wenclair, Bishova, Kuvirasami, Linny, and others, mostly courtesy of wonderful fics I've read... But I will end the list here!
I've seen quite a few of my friends doing this tag, so I will just leave it open for whoever hasn't played but would like to.

I was tagged by @wistfulwatcher in 20 Questions for Fic Writers - thank you!! <33
How many works do you have on AO3?
47
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
408,521
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Actively, right now? It's Cabenson all the time. I have a crossover with Elementary in the works, if it counts? Historically: Xena: Warrior Princess, Olivia (1951), Star Trek(s touching on Voyager, Picard, and Discovery), Wicked, Once Upon a Time, Rizzoli & Isles. Waaaaay back in the day historically: A TON of Wicked, smattering of The X-Files, Battlestar: Galactica, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Stargates SG-1 and Atlantis, Doctor Who, Bones.
Oh. Also Star Wars EU as a wee child.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Presque Vu (R&I)
all the sacred boundaries we've overgrown (OUAT)
The Nature of Work Wives (R&I)
the undoing and the reweaving (XWP)
The Thing Called Future (OUAT)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yeah!! Posting fic is all about the positive human interaction for me! Obviously comments are life, we all know this; but also I have irl friendships that started in the comments of my fic because I responded. You never know who you're going to meet or in what capacity.
tl;dr if someone feels compelled enough by something that came directly out of my brain and my soul to engage tangibly with it - you bet I'm going to respond, barring irl complications.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Hmmmm so I have been accused of being something of an angst queen, but I also like a happy ending after the angst. I think the angstiest contenders are more ambiguous, and are probably:
no one else can break my heart like you (Wicked) - because we all know what's coming in Act II
Chrysopylae (Voyager/Picard) - because I really don't think many things about Seven and Janeway's relationship can ever truly be resolved
do borg dream of individuality? (Voyager) - see above, where Janeway is starting to intuit this
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I think The Thing Called Future (OUAT) is a pretty classic happy ending! So is all the sacred boundaries we've overgrown (OUAT). Both are in the right fandom for it!
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I've been very fortunate to get very nice, genuine folks and exactly one person I'm choosing to believe was having a bad day and taking it out on me.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Y-yes? I guess it depends on your definition of smut. There's sex for sure, but the focus is more on the emotions while it's happening than on graphic descriptions of what's happening or how it feels. Most of the time it's baked into the narrative and telling the story. I think I've really only written one or two PWP, and they're in XWP fandom.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Not really! As mentioned I've got the SVU/Elementary crossover in the works, but for the reason that time and location align so incredibly perfectly. I also had a XWP/Wonder Woman crossover I wrote on a prompt (an amazon matter) and that was a lot of fun, but probably also not crazy.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not word for word or reposted.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but it would be cool!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, but @90stvqueen and I have talked about cowriting prompts before!
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
Oof. I feel like I should say Xena/Gabrielle here, but Gelphie is my OG (shoutout gateway lesbians!)
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
hahahahaha pass
16. What are your writing strengths?
This is a very reflective question! I guess I'd say emotional reflection + revision/distillation. Give me an inch I'll write you a mile, and then realize I need to revise it to something closer the inch you'll actually read or the conversation the characters would actually have.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Action, movement, and description of setting. Wait, no, are they sitting/standing in some nebulous, blurry-edged space having a conversation again???? nooooooooooooooooooooo
I'm working on it, and I'm proud of what my efforts are yielding, but also: ughh
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
It's a nice idea, but imo it distracts so hard from the flow of reading. One or two words where the reader can figure it out in context, or where the reader probably knows what it means, is great! Adds color and flavor! Entire lines that require footnotes… personally, I'm never going to look those up.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Star Wars EU! Luke Skywalker/Mara Jade OTP!
20. Favorite fic you've ever written?
I don't know if/when my answer is going to change from The Wide Orbit (SVU) - genuinely I think it's the best thing I've ever written. A lot of work and revision went into it and I think the final product shows it. It is precisely the story I wanted to tell in precisely the way I wanted to tell it. I just reread it and am still so delighted with it.
tagging in a no-pressure way: @chthonic-cassandra @chainofclovers @90stvqueen @cargopantsprentiss @butchcraftmacncheese @neornithes @dadrielle

Glinda's always loved weddings. So perhaps it's not a surprise that 'Bitte's Bridal' becomes her escape, her safe space after moving to the Emerald City.
In the early days of her reign over Oz, feeling overwhelmed by her new responsibilities, mourning for her friends and unable to tell anyone or do anything about it; Glinda takes a moment in her safe space to breathe and to be.
But she comes away with a new project, an idea of how to honour the memory of her best friend.
Musicalverse. Post-musical. Companion piece to Nothing Comes From Nothing. Gelphie friendship, mentions of past Flinda and of Fiyeraba.

i am not trying to attack you i just genuinely have a question. i feel like people headcanoning nessa as aroace is a little weird because that tends to be a stereotype for disabled people. i understand that there is some evidence for her being ace (in the book) but i don’t see the aromantic part. just wanting to probe your brain about the nuance of it / what you think. again, a headcanon is whatever and i know it’s personal, just wondering your thoughts
It’s really not personal I’d love to share :)
I think it’s more for neurodivergent people than it is for physically disabled people, but it’s also very common for neurodivergent people to be aspec. Personally as an aspec neurodivergent person, I don’t care as long as you don’t use it as a way of either infantalizing neurodivergent people or implying that they don’t have any feelings at all. I don’t know about physical disabilities though. My head cannon doesn’t really have anything to do with her disability, aside from maybe this meme because the bookverse makes it really ironic.
I see Book Nessa as aroace because she doesn’t seem interested in a partner, I don’t really see her with anyone, and over all I just kinda get that vibe from her. She seems like she’d be better off single to me.
For the musical it’s a little different, I just kind of have it as a sort of headcannon/au/what if scenario kind of thing because I can see her being aroace and Boq being gay (though I feel like he’d be openly bisexual in the book) and them being best friends because it would be nice to see them in a healthy platonic relationship rather than a toxic romantic one.
Boq is gay because of the queercoded relationship between the tin man and scarecrow in the original books. Of course I ship both tincrow and Gelphie so I think they’d make sense as a couple because Boq doesn’t historically have very good luck with women so maybe he was destined for a man the whole time (and I think romantic rivals to romantic partners is such a funny dynamic).
Nessa, I just don’t see her with anyone romantically and I think she’d he better off single. Plus something about her that’s just so aspec. She just gives me the energy of the flag colors if that makes any sense (Not to mention she can become the strong, independent, single ruler of munchkinland, which I think would be good for her).
In the books, they come from the same part of munchkinland and share a religion so they have a lot of culture in common.
I think that their religion or culture (or the way that they learned it) probably values getting married and starting a family so they both want to be in “traditional” heterosexual marriages.
Boq is more focused on finding himself a proper wife that his family would approve of (he’s kind of a daddy’s boy in the book I believe) than actual love, which is why he tries so hard to win over Galinda. He tries to convince himself that he really is in love with her because she’s beautiful, rich, popular, charming and comes from a respectable family, so how could he not be love her with all his heart? This is why he agrees to ask out Nessa. She’s beautiful, charming, and comes from a respectable family, so why couldn’t he learn to love her?
As for Nessa, she’s the same case as Boq, she’s desperate to find a husband and make her family and the unnamed god proud, but she also just wants someone to love and pay attention to her because she’s been coddled all her life, but she’s never had a real friend. She thinks romance/marriage is the only way that anyone will ever love her in such a way. She convinces herself she wants romantic love when really all she wants is a friend.
Ideally, they would come out to each other at the Ozdust and then over time they’d have to learn to accept themselves and they form a close platonic bond over it.
Though it can be switched. Boq can be aroace, Nessa can be lesbian, or they can both be gay or both aroace. This is just my personal interpretation.
Sorry for the ramble <3
