I was trying to put my finger on why I was finding the Eurovision 2025 entries so lackluster and I realized last night: a lot of them lack energy.

And I don't mean that it's all slow songs. Slow songs can still have energy. Look at Scream (Russia's 2019 entry). That's a slow song and it has so much energy to it.

This year just has so many entries where I listen to it and afterwards have nothing to say but "That was definitely a song."

(Luckily this seems to be changing and several of the songs released in the past couple days have had great energy.)

Ireland's entry into Eurovision 2025 being a poppy dance song about Laika the dog that Russia shot into space is hilariously fucked up and I'm here for it.
