Pit Stop
fem!reader x jaskier [friend thing, not romance]
A/N: HIIIIII so i drank a bit today and this creation came to be, tried to edit all the mistakes, but there may still be some. i just wrote it from my heart, not really focusing on it being great to read, allowing it flow through me so it may be an aboslute mess and i might delete it when i wake up, but enjoy it while its here [even if it may stay forver]
Warnings: none!
Summary: [written in third person again] Y/N is a orphan who grew up in Kaer Morhen, and her basically-big-brother Geralt comes to visit with Jaskier and the two of them have a heart to heart

as always, any feedback is appreciated, but on this one, pls keep in mind that i didnt write it entirely sober and its late and im sad lmao, but criticism is good and needed for every writer, so feel free to leave it even on this [or anonymously on my ask page]

She lifted her sword just in time to block Geralt, parrying back with her other hand, hitting him with her other blade. The witcher grunted, pushing her with his swords, making her stumble back, a smile still on her face. She turned the weapons in her hands, both in a attack position now, as Geralt also smiled, gripping his sword tighter.
Y/N was able to duel-wield as well as you could possibly do it, it never occurred to her that she could fight with only one sword. In her mind, it truly seemed like a waste of opportunities, and she didn’t plan on contributing to it. While still young, she could stand her ground against Geralt, which was impressive on itself.
And Jaskier knew it. In his head, his friend witcher was the strongest-baddest-unbeatable Geralt, but now, in Kaer Morhen, his buddy was struggling holding back against this girls attacks.
“Well done.” Witcher spoke, lowering his sword. He hated to admit it, but he was running out of breath, and Y/N seemed to radiate endless energy. The girl laughed, straightening up.
“Thanks, Gee.” Geralt grunted at the nickname, smile still painting across his face.
The girl took a deep breath, looking up at the mountains that surrounded her home. She was an orphan, left in the woods. One of the witchers found her, and tried to get someone to take the baby in, but times were tough and Y/N was just an extra mouth to feed. She was taken here, to Kaer Morhen, at first it was planned to be short-term.
But she grew up with the boys, eventually picking her name herself. She never underwent the procedure to fully become a witcher, but she was a better fighter than some. She earned her nickname, the great Shewolf, who was as vicious and as strong as one. Someone who would die for her family.
Jaskier has heard about her from Geralt and some other witchers they’ve met on the road, but the bard knew the girl rarely left her home. Being abandoned by her parents, she took all the boys under her wing, providing some love and care to them during their strict training regimen.
Now, as wind played with her hair, Jaskier had to stop himself from breaking into a song. She was beautiful, in this mountain view, she truly looked like a she-wolf – majestic, wild and free. The girl felt the stare, glancing at the bard, offering him a smile.
“Jaskier and I,” Geralt spoke, getting her attention back on himself, “got you a gift.”
“Did you?” Her eyebrows rose as she glanced between the men.
“Something very special.” Witcher said. He never would admit it, but Y/N has grown to be like a little sister to him – he wanted to give her the world.
But all he could offer now, was two new swords. Light weight enough to make her duel-wielding possible and even faster than it was now. It was long, and sharp. The special thing about it was that one side of the blade was silver, the other steel. It was also enchanted with runes, so it would catch enemies on fire, at random.
They were beautiful, black handles and with a tree design on the blade itself. But for Y/N, that didn’t matter. It was the gesture itself; she knew how expensive weapons are. And not even that, finding a good blacksmith was nearly impossible these days. The trouble they must’ve gone through almost brought a tear to her eye.
She dropped her old swords, taking the new ones. They felt perfect in her hands.
“I am at a loss for words.” Geralt smirked.
“A thank you will do.” She fixed her gaze on the witcher, trying to swallow down the tears.
“Thank you. Truly.” She turned her eyes to the bard, who rose to his feet, coming closer to Y/N. “Jaskier, thank you too.”
“I didn’t do that much.” He muttered.
“You have never been to Kaer Morhen, have you?” Jaskier shook his head, and an idea came to the womans head. “Let me show you around. As a thank you. If not for a sword, then for keeping my big old Gee company.”
“Don’t you want to test your new swords?” Geralt asked before Jaskier could agree to the offer. Y/N shoulders dropped as she gazed into the horizon.
“We’ll have time for it tomorrow.” She finally decided, glancing at the witcher. “You seem tired. Are you getting old, Geralt?”
“Tired of you, little one.” He smirked, putting his sword in his scabbard. “But okay. I need to catch up with Master-“
“With Vesemir about Cirilla, yeah.” Y/N interrupted, remembering that they weren’t here to visit her – not exactly. Of course, it added to the trip, but their main goal was to talk to Vesemir about Cirilla and how she’s okay. Nothing in particular that Y/N found interesting, but she knew how important it was to Geralt. “Go and surprise that old bastard. He will be happy to hear the news.”
Bard watched his friend grin and turn around, going into the massive castle. The pair stood there in silence at first, and Jaskier began to worry that his lady friend would feel uncomfortable with just the two of them; but she was gazing at the sky. The mountains loomed over them, guarding this place, keeping it safe. It provided an impressive view, too.
“It’s beautiful.” Bard broke the silence, as the girl smiled.
“There is something so peaceful about this view.” A sad shadow loomed over her face. “But once all of the witcher disappear… this place will be abandoned. Hidden in these hills, deep in the woods.”
“But the Witchers won’t disappear.” Jaskier argued, although he knew that the population of withcers was dropping, as no new boys have been trained in years. He didn’t know why, and he was too afraid to ask. Bard was smarted than that, and knew not to open old wounds.
“Everything disappears, Jaskier.” Y/N glanced at her old swords on the ground, as they reflected the light. “But I am glad you find this place beautiful.”
“Precisely.” He muttered, as his head was working overtime trying to come up with something to comfort the girls troubled heart.
“Maybe you’ll write poems about it. That way, we will live on forever.” Girl spoke, turning around, waving the bard to follow her.
Which he did, with no hesitation. The sun was shining on them, but the weather wasn’t really that warm. Jaskier wrapped his arms around himself, watching Y/N in front, with her armour, that seemed to be too light to protect from the hold breeze that was picking up. But the girl didn’t mind, stepping to the training grounds.
They were now surrounded by dummies, most of which haven’t been touched in months. Her heart felt heavy, but she hoped one day soon new boys would come and train here. She would pray, but she didn’t believe in any gods.
“Training grounds, not used in… awhile.” She cleared her throat, sheathing her swords behind her back. She crossed her arms over, looking back at the bard, who was examining the dummies.
“These look new.” He pointed out and Y/N laughed.
“They got destroyed all the time. We would make new ones pretty much everyday, so they are new, yet to be destroyed.” She explained something in her heart lifting. It was as if there was new boy to train; even if the man in front of her was too old for this.
Though older, his eyes reminder her of that of a kid. So much joy shined in them, she almost allowed herself be fooled that he had lived an easy life. Traveling with a witcher was nothing easy at all, especially Geralt. While Y/N got to know his more affectionate side, sometimes he would hurt even her. he never meant to, but his comments would be daggers at heart.
And this man, was a bard, she also remembered, her eyes grazing the lute hanging by his side. Not a fighter, not trained. He could probably barely hold a weapon or protect himself, and with the contracts and helping citizens, she was sure this man has seen more than he lets on.
Maybe more than her.
But there were no shadows in his blue eyes, as he brushed his hair back, smiling at the girl, who was in deep thought, staring right at him. Her eyes pierced Jaskier, as he wondered what was going on in her head.
“A coin for your thoughts?” Jaskier decided to try and pry, figure out what world she was lost in.
“You have travelled with Gee for awhile now, but you don’t seem to be troubled by it.” Bard shrugs, his shoulders relaxing; he didn’t even realize that he has gotten nervous.
“He protects me.” Her gaze drifts ahead, as she sits down by the dummy. A shadow of sadness looms over her again, and Jaskier sits down too, their legs now touching.
“I wish someone would protect me.” Jaskier furrows his brows, staring at his hands.
“But you can protect yourself.” He speaks, as Y/N sighs. That was not what she meant, but the bard carried on. “You literally can hold you ground against Geralt. The Geralt.”
“That’s not the point, Jaskier.” She rests her head on the dummy behind her, staring at the mountains. Sometimes she feels like they are about to fall on her, swallowing her whole. “I still want to be protected. Someone to take care of me, too.”
“What about Vesemir?” She knows he is genuinely trying to help, but the mountains still double up in size as she feels small. She would feel like this when she was a child, isolated and alone. A sigh escapes her lips again, resting between them like a ravine.
“I meant more of a friend.” She finally clarified, after the silence began to grow uncomfortable. Jaskier stared at the ground between them, as if that ravine was actually there.
“I can be your friend.” She nodded. She already felt like they were friends.
“You and Geralt both are my friends. But…” Jaskier watched as her face changed, becoming more and more puzzled. He wanted to help her find the right words, express what she means exactly. Maybe that would lessen the pain in her eyes.
“I get it, I think.” He decided to try and put some clarity into her clear thought volcano. “We, and I bet some other friends, we come and go. But most of the time, you’re alone. And I bet you feel trapped, surrounded by these mountains and woods. No escape, as even the horizon isn’t clear.”
“Exactly!” She shouted, involuntary. “Everyone tells me I’m a shewolf, I can protect myself and thrive alone, and that’s correct. But I still want to have a pack.”
“Why don’t you join us then?” Jaskier offers and the girl closes her eyes. She wants to go, but what if someone comes here, some small boy, scared and alone. Ripped from their mothers crying hands. She has to be there for them, if it were to happen.
“I’m needed her.” Jaskier sighs, a sour taste growing in his mouth. He didn’t like the thoughts that filled his head, the words that were urging to escape.
“Ghosts don’t need to be cared for, Y/N.” His tone was soft, as if he was talking to a child. He even dared to reach out and place his hand on hers, which she didn’t shake off. “If anything, they need to be let go off. Laid to rest.”
“But if someone new comes-“ Jaskier squeezed her hand, making the girl stop mid-sentence. Their eyes met.
“If someone comes, Vesemir will find us. You can’t find a pack if you stay in this cage.” His words made sense, and she knew it.
But she didn’t want to listen. Her eyes gazed away from the boy, back to the mountains, who began casting shadows on the pair. Wolves howled in the woods and the breeze picked up again. She didn’t feel cold, but Jaskier shivered a little.
“I should show you inside.” She tried to avert the conversation, but the bard wasn’t having it. She rose to her feet, but he remained on the ground.
“The view from the top of the mountains must be amazing.” He said, gazing there. He did wonder if you could even reach it; these trained professionals probably could, but he, a simple bard, would probably slip and fall to his death. He shivered at the thought of that.
“You see endless fields and forests. But it is nice.” Y/N agreed, crossing her arms.
“So you see the opportunities the world has to offer.” He eventually decided, standing up. “Then this isn’t a trap – is a pit stop, before you go to see all that the sun touches.”
“Sure, poet.” She grinned, but his words settled in her heart. “Let’s get inside.”
So the tour continued, as they drifted from painful topics to more easy ones. Jasier showcased some songs, which she thoroughly enjoyed, and Y/N shared some fun stories from a better time.
But evening came, and something went wrong. Geralt ushered them to leave. The sun had set, and the only light was a few torches surrounding the group. Withcer didn’t seem worried, just in a hurry. Jaskier had his lute over his shoulder, saddened to be leaving so soon.
Y/N was painfully looking at her friends, wondering when she will see them again.
“We will visit soon. Ciri just needs me, I know it.” Geralt grunted, petting Roach. He was eager to get on the road.
“It’s okay. I’m glad I got to see you again, Gee.” Y/N forced a smile, but it didn’t fool the boys. They exchanged worried looks.
After hugs exchanged, she watched them leave – Geralt on Roach, Jaskier on a horse he borrowed from Vesemir. Y/N looked up once more, mountains blocking her view, but the bards words crept in, waking something inside her.
She whistled her horse, urging it to a gallop to catch up with her friend. Surprise painted their faces when they saw her, and both men stopped in their tracks.
“You said you’d visit soon.” She explained, slowing her horse to a canter, going ahead of them. “I can leave Kaer Morhen for a little bit. And these gifted swords need testing too.”
“You’re coming with us?” Jaskier couldn’t hide the joy in his voice, but he didn’t care. In the dark he and Geralt could barely tell that the girl rolled her eyes.
“Let’s go, boys!” She rushed to a gallop again.
They caught up to her in a heartbeat. They raced through the mountains, until they reached one of the peaks.
The fields in front of them offered endless possibilities. In this moonlight, shewolf took a deep breathe, and she knew, that for the first time in ages, she was breathing freedom. One last glance at her home, the castle glistening in the light grey light of the night was inviting.
But she knew she would always find a home here.
She could always come and rest, until she was ready to venture again. Now, she needed to go and find her pack.
y/N didn’t know, that Jaskier and Geralt both thought they just added a new member to their pack. They accepted her, racing in the night, to the rest of their pack, towards Ciri and Yen. Rushing into the unknown, leaving the pit stop behind.

I would say that my feelings are similar to yours, but not quite identical ...

Disney’s handling has been imperfect, and some of the mistakes have been made the highest level (I know that people give Kathleen Kennedy a hard time, but if rumor is to be believed, some of the interference that made IX kind of weird came from higher than that)
for example, Kennedy said in an interview that she tries to find people who just make big, successful movies to make sure that these are also big, successful movies. I can understand that as being a safe bet from a business stand point, but that’s not the same thing as finding someone passionate about very specifically telling good, new Star Wars stories, which we did not really get in the Sequel Trilogy
(one of the most common theories that I saw from TLJ apologists was that people didn’t like that it was new/different than what they were expecting, which was really not the issue for me or my friends. Also it was just a speedrun of parts of Episodes V and VI)
I think that I’m “too close” to Star Wars to see it as a financial asset rather than a beloved universe full of characters and stories that I adore, but I don’t think that “literally just rehash the Original Trilogy for two movies and barely acknowledge any other part of Star Wars until IX” was a good idea
Rey deserved her own story. and Luke deserved to not be retroactively robbed of his

as for George Lucas, I do think that years of backlash over the Prequels sucked the fun out of it for him. Also, who doesn’t want four billion dollars? it was a sweetheart deal for Disney, of course
the sad thing is that this meant the end of Clone Wars, because Disney took one look at Lucasfilm’s budget and was like “OH NO YOU CANNOT SPEND THAT KIND OF MONEY ON A CARTOON” which is why Season 6 was paid for by Netflix and why Maul: Son of Dathomir was a comic

I love Star Wars Rebels and I’m not trying to knock the show at all, but the budgetary difference was palpable. Clone Wars did have it a little easier because of the Clone Troopers (all having the same face), but on Rebels, you notice that 90% of the Imperials are the same guy wearing a hat with his visor obscuring most of his face. market scenes show just a few people (but plenty of Storm Troopers)
the designs of the main characters -- Ezra, Hera, Sabine, Zeb, Kallus, Thrawn, Kanan, etc -- are great and loving and detailed and most of those change a little over time, but there’s a reason that we only see so many planets on Rebels. look at the huge armies and crowds in Rebels. my friend @drunkkenobi​ is the first who pointed out to me that in Clone Wars, you sometimes see lines of ships (Space Traffic) and each ship in line will be unique, distinct from the others
it’s not Rebels’ fault that they didn’t have that kind of budget. that’s also why their space battles (and space ships) never quite look right. meanwhile, for Clone Wars, if they wanted a particular scene or ship that went over their planned budget, all that they had to do was ask Uncle George

eccentric billionaires funding expensive media isn’t necessarily the most sustainable model for storytelling, but it sure worked out well for Clone Wars and for The Expanse
(Jeff Bezos personally called up the head of Amazon Prime programming, who had already been considering acquiring the extremely good but expensive show, and was like “hey the cast from this show is at a thing where I am, I’d love to just tell them that their show is saved, give me it?” and we saw as many new locations in Season 4 as we did in the first three seasons)
but streaming -- where you actually get money directly from customers who then, through their activity on your platform, show you exactly what they want to see aka what is keeping them on your platform -- offers a new opportunity for high quality genre media. remember, scifi and fantasy were EVERYWHERE in the ‘90s and the early aughts, and then because too expensive for regular TV unless they had huge audiences. only through streaming do we have these new Star Treks, The Witcher, and the real possibility of a new Stargate series
why do I bring up streaming? because

The Mandalorian goes to show that Disney can 100% do good Star Wars. Rebels was good, despite its budget, but can you imagine how much better it would have been if it had aired on Disney+
as with the DC movies (three of which are good and I’m also excited for Birds of Prey), the solution to the our-movies-made-a-lot-of-money-but-aren’t-strictly-speaking-good is literally just “let the people who do the cartoons make the movies”

and now we’re getting a final, seventh (half) season of Clone Wars! twelve episodes looking better than the show has ever looked!!
if you’re like me, you probably thought to yourself “gee, only 12?” and, cynically, you figured that it’s a trick -- announced at ComicCon in 2018 to build up the first wave of hype for Disney+
and it is ... but it 100% worked on me, I signed up for Disney+ and will pay anything for Clone War
my HOPE is that this is a test run to see if people really like high-quality animated Star Wars stories enough to continue with it. there’s only so much clone wars that one can cover (my suspicion is that we will see Ahsoka fake her death during Order 66 in these eps, so yep, that’s the end of the Clone Wars right there)
imagine a well-written series with everything that Clone Wars had in terms of content and visual quality, but it’s set after Episode IX. to my frustration, IX ends with effectively the same worldstate as VI which essentially means that nothing much happened in the Sequel Trilogy. but imagine a series set after IX. we could see a new set of (Force-wielding) characters. we could see Rey, Finn, Poe, and Rose during some episodes. Rose could finally get to do something that’s not an insulting fool’s errand (she deserves so much better!!!!!)
we don’t need a new Big Scary Empire/First Order thing, just organized crime and pirates and Hutts and bounty hunters and individual planet systems going to war as the characters try to assemble a NEW New Republic (gods I hate the unchanged worldstate)

now, I know that Star Wars Resistance is not ... reassuring. this is the only screencap that I have from it because I couldn’t get into it. it’s not the animation (I enjoyed Tron Uprising and Iron Man: Armored Adventures and this is the same kind of deal), but three things:
-I watch Star Wars for the Force primarily; other stuff can be cool but I need the Force
-I will never care about ships racing and really I don’t care about an individual ship flying; I’m a Command Ship kind of space nerd
-apparently the writing doesn’t improve much during the first season. people tell the main character to not do something, then he does it, and disaster ensues. that’s ... it’s fine, it’s fine to exist as a show, it’s just not for me

obviously, not all Star Wars media is for me, but when something -- like TLJ or the Sequel Series as a whole (even though VII and IX are enjoyable) or Resistance -- disappoints me, I would never accuse it of “ruining Star Wars”
Star Wars is a whole franchise. the breadth of canon isn’t all wiped away by some disappointments. was the MCU ruined by Age of Ultron? no. it was a bad movie but from the same franchise that gave us The Winter Soldier and Thor Ragnarok. hell, Dawn of Justice doesn’t “ruin” Wonder Woman or Aquaman or Shazam. bad movies aren’t contagious
for the past several years, the Entitled Dude crowd has felt empowered. they were radicalized in the altright/redpill/MGTOW/meninist/nazi/gamergate/comicsgate/etc spheres of the internet and now they just have a reflex where they see any sort of representation and decry it as “SJW,” which they also seem to think is a bad thing
in the same way that well-meaning people on tumblr can get radicalized into being antis/puriteens, people with certain vulnerabilities on reddit or youtube can get sucked into a world that tells them that they are the default and that other people existing is “political” in media and in real life, and that people being upset by outright cruelty towards them is both funny and means that the cruel person is the victor. they need therapy and studios need to not listen to them
unfortunately, sometimes there are movies that are bad despite having things like solid representation. Ghostbusters 2016 was a delight, but my friends and I with whom I saw TLJ (all of us queer feminists) left the theater angry. we’ve bitten our tongues a lot (even if it seems otherwise) because publicly criticizing the film too often leads some incel monster to chime in with agreement, and we’re just like

the redpillgate crowed et all is a natural ally of conservative white evangelicals, even though the former group is generally made up of New Atheists (the short version is atheists who hold socially conservative views because racism/misogyny/transphobia benefit them without using christianity as an excuse). it’s kind of like how terfs will side with conservative hate groups because, though they’re natural enemies, they both despite trans people just for existing
unfortunately, when you’re looking at who went to see a movie or who hated it, not everyone posts with an ID card saying exactly their demographic. which is only going to make studios like Disney even more nervous about including queer content in Star Wars and in the MCU (I mean real queer content with characters whose names don’t have to be searched on a wiki)

Got The Outer Worlds, on the strength of a lot of praise as "more Fallout: New Vegas" and so far eeeeh. It just feels a little recycled and second rate, unclear where it stands in the "AAA quest-driven open world" metagenre.
The nicest change from the previous first-person Fallouts, it feels less like an isometric world awkwardly inhabited in 3D. FPS combat is actually viable, slightly better than Skyrim and slightly worse than later Mass Effects. The V.A.T.S. -replacement is a slow motion that allows for better manual targeting, and the "inhaler" system makes health items part of the flow rather than a weirdly instant interruption.
The mechanics are streamlined. Attributes are stripped down to 6 with a 1-5 range, there are 7 main skills that each split into 2 or 3 specializations at skill level 50. (They do give interesting bonuses every 20 points tho.) There are 3 kinds of guns, each of which uses one of the 3 kinds of ammo. They are smoothly level-upgradeable, so not the reliance on finding one-off special versions as in Fallout.
There is a perk system, choosable every other level OR in return for accepting "Flaws" triggered by things you encounter, which is interesting. From the beginning, one available perk allows you to fast travel encumbered; common Borderlands-style vending machines also make the loot grind smoother. Smaller sub-regions starting with full (but initially unmarked) maps make blind exploration less of a thing.
From Borderlands it steals 4 hot-swappable weapons and lootable containers distinguished by color, but it's not a loot-shooter, not least because stray items are scattered about indistinct from background objects until you're pointing at them in pickup range.
The scenery is more colorful, which only makes you realize that indistinct grey rubble was hiding the behind-the-curveness of their visuals, here super-visible cause all the "looks" they go for I've seen better before.
Like, that's the third-best grey-soiled valley with reddish grass and yellowish foliage I've ever seen in vidya. The fourth best take on those cliffs of hexagonal stone pillars. The third-best "Art Deco futurism" style. Maybe the second best Old West/Dirty Space Frontier look, but that's where they transparently ripped the less interesting bits of Firefly into the Fallout house style.
The one thing from F:NV though, oh, the writing… well it does have a more robust dialog system than most, with multiple speech skills and branches triggering off attributes, skills, clothes, companions, and previous actions.
And there are multiple ways to complete missions, and like NV it pushes back on genre awareness: doing everything and choosing the "I'm the BEST boy" options doesn't always lead to the best result. But honestly on that level I'd recommend Witcher III or Kingdom Come first, what I've seen so far is still a little broad and blunt.
The Fallout series could have atmospheric storytelling and abandoned messages from both the pre- and post-apocalypse, on the ironic themes of "gee this consumer utopia is great, hope its basis in militarism and corporate greed never comes back to bite me" and "well, it looks like we've managed to survive in this harsh frontier after all, time to ::TOTALLY DESTROYED BY THE SAVAGE WORLD::", so far what I've seen that's been collapsed into "gee, this savage frontier based on militarized corporate greed is a utopia, time to ::DESTROYED BY BOTH::"
And like, that's maybe the third-best riff on Objectivism/Scientology I've ever seen in vidya? Maybe?
I dunno, I'm still in the first zone, maybe it gets better, and it's certainly above whatever Fallout 76 was, but I wouldn't be surprised if I conk out on it faster than 4.

I know that comparing tv shows and stuff to current events is tasteless and bad regardless of how well-intentioned it might mean to be
and I'm not gonna do that.
but I just think it's funny that works of fiction; books, movies, video games, comics, music- a significant majority of art that has been made in the past getting close to hundred years has been very adamantly pro rebellion and against oppressive power structures.
like, let's just look at the most popular shit.
books: 1984, to kill a mockingbird, the great gatsby, the lord of the rings, huckleberry finn, alice in wonderland, charlotte's web, a tale of two cities, the grapes of wrath, anna karenina, war and peace, price and prejudice, great expectations, gone with the wind...
hmm let's see: fascism, racism, post-war, evil that threatens all free men, racism, growing up in a scary world, giving your life for a worthy cause, political revolution, the struggles of the impoverished, democracy versus facism, war, misogyny, the importance of morality over financial achievement, and the fucking civil war. I'm not even MENTIONING the oversaturation of the YA market with maximum ride and percy jackson and artemis fowl and harry potter and divergent and the hunger games and that's just off the top of my head. classic popular books have been written with themes of opposing the evils of oppression/tyranny almost exclusively.
movies: casablanca, godfather, a new hope, ET, raiders of the lost ark, jurassic park, forrest gump, shawshank redemption, the sound of music, schindler's list, the lion king, gladiator, alien, the matrix, chinatown, 12 angry men, blade runner, mad max fury road, 12 years a slave, parasite, moonlight, and of course all of the film adaptations of the aforementioned movies.
literally every single one of these has criticized corrupt governments or other related systems. looking over this there's a whole lot of movies with nazi antagonists (or space nazis, looking at star wars), almost universally loved by large audiences. film as medium is usually comedy or romance or horror, but the very best of the best are about how evil humans with power are bad.
video games: skyrim, red dead redemption, ocarina, half life 2, bioshock, grand theft auto, metal gear, uncharted, resident evil, mass effect, the witcher, warcraft, god of war, dark souls, xenoblade, halo, perfect dark, metroid, baldur's gate 2, the last of us, splinter cell, diablo, and a little thing called final fantasy 7
literally every single highly rated well loved story based video game has heavily involved corrupt governments and corporations being evil. well also sometimes zombies and dragons and massively omnicidal aliens and demons... but final fantasy 7, which is most gamers 100% greatest most favorite game ever created, is LITERALLY ABOUT A RACIST CORPORATE FUNDED GOVERNMENT DESTROYING THE ENVIRONMENT FOR MONEY AND KILLING THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE JUST TO MAKE A QUICK BUCK. and some other stuff here and there but the main story is that shinra is committing genocide to steal access to heaven (also sephiroth wants to destroy the world but I mean it's a JRPG come on) and you are trying to stop them by blowing up their shit. gee where have I seen that before?
oh and don't even fucking get me STARTED on punk, rap, thrash, soul, classic country, blues, and other music genres expressly built from the ground up as rejections to common society and the subsequent problems involved. I'm not including post-9/11 country, pop, swing, most white boy metal, modern sad boy r&b, or other genres of, well, major privilege whether white or financial. but music, real music, true music made with passion and not a product made for $elling out, is, always has been, and forever will be, deeply rooted in seeing past what society wants you to see and hear and think and act like. and black people, black ARTISTS are pretty much at the root of all of those things. we wouldn't have anything I mentioned if not for bb king, muddy waters, blind jefferson, buddy guy, john lee hooker, and bessie smith.
we as americans have been conditioned since world war 1 ended (and even before that) and especially since the cold war was coming to a close, to recognize, acknowledge, and destroy fascism, racism, misogyny, the environmental parasites, corrupt governments, overbearing corporations, and evil in general. but only the ones who appreciate art.
if you don't read books, don't watch movies, don't play video games, don't listen to music, don't attach value to art in general... you're an idiot. you're a waste of space. you're just sitting in your cushy homes eating kale and watching livePD and talking out your ass about how you want revolution to come peacefully and only in a way you seem convenient. you're spending all of your time contributing to the corrupt system.
which is a real goddamn shame because if you benefit from that kind of privilege, so you don't have to work two or even three jobs just to give your kids breakfast you should have time to kill in enjoying art. but no. you spend all your time and money making sure that nobody else can have what you have. you waste your life so that nobody else can have one of their own. it's just disgusting.
so yeah, if you're not explicitly with the protestors, not only are you the dumbest fucking moron on the planet, but you're also against them. so at least step to the side and shut the fuck up.
