one of the frustrating things about having abusive parents is wanting a parent to do activities with. I want parents to come to my graduation from college some day, but not my parents. I want parents to go on vacation with, but not my parents. I want parents to do nice things for on their birthdays and holidays, but not my parents. And yes, I could do all of the things I want to do with my parents, but I know I won't get the emotional connection I'm after. It's exhausting, especially when they try to reach out and do parent stuff now that I'm an adult and pushing them away without ever acknowledging that they were the problem in the first place.
