craving gd humanizations whump/sickfic we need those so bad :3
rambling(concepts) below, has thoughts about decode and cubes and lobotomy memes except banger
omygod ok so. i dont have like specific designs or concrete ideas for some of the humanizations here but
- cubes but humanoid, they are usually used to extremely disorienting experiences such as gravity switching ship stuff, but that tolerance might crumble if they are feeling unwell from another source like idk lets say a weird virus of some sort
- normally demons (difficult levels in general) with a fire or hell theme would act like a walking furnace even in freezing environments. but what if something happens that causes them to struggle more at generating heat? like what if an injury from a equally or more powerful entity with ice powers made it so that they are starting to approach hypothermia on top of the pain of the injury
- similarly, levels with colder themes might be more susceptible to negative effects if their body temp is abnormally high
- easier(weaker) levels with those themes are even more susceptible to feeling unwell in extreme environments because their powers dont allow them to withstand stuff for very long (eg. a fire themed 3 star suffering in a snowy place)
- okay here's just me being insane atp but decode thoughts!!! they're like a robot so a lot of robot whump concepts apply very well to them... for example, malfunction electric sparks code error short circuiting overheating RAM/CPU overload magnet interference malware AND SO MUCH MORE zomg yes suffering inflicted on my favourite character made from my favourite level
- and here's a final banger concept that has been brewing in my mind for a long time now, LOBOTOMY MEMES BUT AS A PLAGUE (to elaborate, lobotomy versions of levels are actually what they're like when they get hit by the plague, and the effects like distortions and weird level progression are manifestations of delirium/fever

when doechii said "sabotagin me til i'm forced to rip the mask off / this lobotomy is just a reflection of the last loss" and "here's your body back, that i can dig for you, let me live for you, let me crawl inside your body, make a meal of you, and tell you how many times i ain't feeling you" in the same gd verse. ugh

got me a medical encyclopedia from 1972 (reprinted 1978, ISBN 0 14 051 048 6) and its wild
its nowhere near as bad as some other books ive gotten my hands on, especially considering it was written in the 70s as opposed to straight up vile shit like 'idols in the house' (written/published in 2002, ISBN 0-9634307-1-8) ive no conclusion to draw from this post aside from the obvious, i just thought the diction and choices of subject were kind of fascinating
cw for ableism, eating disorders, homophobia, racism, intersexism and sexism, but heres a few notes and quotes from it
'creative men are seldom ideal husbands' (this is in reference to the idea that artists are often promiscuous and/or gay, how they made this connection, i've no clue)
'it would be absurd to call everyone who has such feelings, even if they lead to homosexual acts, a homosexual'
'tics most often affect insecure children'
the book refers to triple x syndrome as 'super-female's (in general the book is very out dated with its terms, still calling intersex people hermaphrodites and the likes)
'it has become easier for a young woman that she is designed for childbearing' (this is on a section about anorexia of all things)
'quarantine is now seldom rigidly enforced' (gd i wish it was more rigidly enforced maybe then covid would be over)
in general the book treats depression, schizophrenia, and autism very alike, especially the latter two- the language used is very dehumanizing and are both defined in the book as a lack of response/emotions
'electroconvulsive therapy is sometimes used. it is not as dramatically helpful with schizophrenia as with severe depression'
lobotomies are referred to as 'leukotomy' and the section on it has this to say; 'people who have had it have altered personalities: they tend to be irresponsible. but most of us would rather be carefree than suicidal' some of the casual remarks on what we now acknowledge as horrific procedures is chilling
vitiligo is described as 'unsightly, especially on a naturally dark skin', which is... a choice. and a bad one.
theres a thing here called 'malta fever' and i just find that funny
in general the book is suffers from its fully alphabetical format, dividing the book into sections would have been much better because going from contraception to corn is quite the whiplash
the book makes casual use of words like 'civilized countries' and 'western medicine', which isnt surprising but is still annoying
on a section of chinese medicine there is the line 'they saw the importance of cleanliness (which is by no means obvious)' like speak for yourself stinky

when did you first get into gd? (like uhhh early/mid/late [version]) and do you have a favourite level from that era or in general? (can be official or user)
I KEEP FORGETTING TO ANSWRT THIS anywasy yappachino coming up!!
My first experience with GD was in elementary, atp just an average experience. From then on, I kinda had an on-off relationship with the game. Fav level there would probably X-step (still my fav main level now)
My first time really getting into the game was when White Space released. I saw the premier randomly on my feed, commenting stuff like 'haha omori vibes,' and the like, and immediately fell in love with the level and community, losing interest over time, ending up just something I liked, but not enough to consider myself part of the community
And when I *really* got into GD was a bit after 2.2 released, four months ago. Spu7nix's video on WHAT reignited my passion for the community, and I fell into a rabbit hole of GD documentaries. It started with Spu7nix's stuff, then Silent Clubstep, then other things. Still actively watch GD documenteries, holy hell are they bangers. White Space remains my favorite level, Silent Clubstep being a close second.
In the meantime, I randomly discovered an FNF mod based off of all the lobotomy memes, and I really liked it because of its oddly high quality despite being based off of pretty much brainrot (keep in mind the last time I got into FNF was way back then so cutscenes, scenes changing mid song, etc. are still wild to me). I got into this just in time, right before Air Detected was released. I drew a shitton of fanart for this mod, the first of which being used as a thumbnail in a teaser. It's just a neat little community I'm part of and really helped fuel my love for GD :]
oh rifht and vocalpid. Vocaloid helped me get jnto Geometry Dash. No further context.

To b fair, if a person has dysphoria that doesn't enter remission with therapy how much of a choice it is then to "be trans" (aka transition)vs do nothing?? idk i go back and forth on this bc yeah for several the trans id is like a cool club entry or a bandage for being ashamed of being gnc ("i'm not an ugly weird woman i'm a man / i'm not some embarrassing sissy perv im a normal woman like any other) but at the end of the day GD is a medical condition that might not be flexible to treatment
despite my post (i'm assuming this is from the greentext reblog) my thoughts mirror yours a lot anon, and it's something i find myself going back and forth on too. especially considering i have a handful of friends who are fully transitioned/"stealth" and don't give two shits for the whole ID part of it.
but i think my bottom line is that "being trans" should never be a game of identity, and in the event someone feels they have absolutely no recourse but to "transition" in order to alleviate symptoms of dysphoria, it should probably be treated with all the same levity as someone with cancer or severe psychosis. they need a team of experts to examine and help guide treatment options that are specific to their use case, as treatment can often be extremely taxing on the body, and may or may not wind up enfeebling someone beyond the state they initially entered medical care. in an ideal world treatment for sex dysphoria wasn't transition - in an ideal world, we'd have stronger therapy and psychoanalysis, and we'd be able to treat it in a way that is less invasive and more appropriate.
even having said this, at the end of the day, sex dysphoria is a mental illness. why are we treating the body to alleviate mental symptoms? we don't allow people with anorexia nervosa to tighten their gut. we don't practice lobotomies on people with depression (not anymore, anyway...) we don't cut off the arms and legs of people with phantom limb. nor do we look to the paranoid schizophrenics and indulge their delusions. because none of these things help the people in question beyond assuaging short-term feelings of distress - and going a step further, these short-term bandaids can often have long-term repercussions.
severity of sex dysphoria can be impacted by environmental factors too, and often shares co-morbidities with other disorders, namely EDs and mood disorders. for these reasons alone i feel it should never be treated in a vacuum
i'm also deliberately using sex dysphoria vs saying "gender" dysphoria even though i think the latter is what is (or was?) in the DSM5 because with how contentious the idea and concept of "gender" even is, pivoting the viewpoint of the disorder to something as concrete as sex makes much more sense when it comes to discussion i think.
sorry i rambled. tl;dr i agree with you at a first glance but i also think there's more just beneath the surface, and ultimately i really just wish we had better (and less biased...) research into it all, so we could generate better, more holistic resources & help & treatments & therapy that can actually treat the cause, not the symptoms. people deserve not just to be happy but to be healthy, too.
