Terrafell reread, continued:

(1) In the art museum, was Gavrel trying to flirt outrageously, or does he think those are normal things to say to someone as friendly compliments, or did he panic so hard when Morwen said his jacket looked nice on him that he accidentally hit the "Uno reverse but ESCALATE IT" button to get him out of the situation where a GIRL was saying NICE THINGS to him?

(2) Related question: at what point in the story did you decide to go ahead and write a romance for Gavrel and Morwen rather than clarify some of the confusion resulting from Morwen's culture shock and keep them friends? And at what point (since they might not be the same) did Gavrel's interest shift from 'this person is nice to me she is my friend' to 'actual crush'?

You haven't really seen it, because he's currently soaked in guilt, is that Gavrel is actually a competitive person. He thought you were being outrageous, so he must engage in oneupmanship and prove he can be more ridiculous. Doesn't mean he didn't think any of it wasn't true.

I'm not certain when I decided. Probably just the necessary outgrowth of the characters. Gavrel decided when Mr. Caesar Sir was openly seeking a date with you. He got. Very jealous.

Will we get to know a little bit about Riley’s father back when he was alive and in her childhood? I don’t remember if there’s already at least few facts about him besides that it’s confirmed he’s dead.

Yes, we will learn more about Riley's father, who I will call Gavrel Bader Ruckus. From what I have confirmed, Riley got her freckles and green eye from her dad, her parents were full-blown scientists and explorers, and Riley participated in their adventures as a kid. But something happened to Riley's dad that made Virginia send Riley into a “normal life.” At the same time, Virginia explored in her shows to provide for her daughter. With the loss of Riley's dad and Virginia being gone most of the time, it resulted in 🎵parent issues🎵. Think of a Beetlejuice Beetlejuice situation with Virginia as Lydia and Riley as Astrid. I can also establish that Gavrel changed his surname to his wife's surname since his mother was known as a terrible mad scientist during the war, leaving a stain that nobody from his side of the family from the science field talks about her. Let's say Gavrel's mom is similar to Riley Ruckus in the game universe. Doing anything so she and Gavrel can survive, but with the cost of her going mad. It's a miracle that Gavrel still got into the science field despite what his mom did (probably because he joined the resistance and the Allies along with Virginia), and the worst Riley has ever done was cause explosions in her lab and the Gremlin Scout incident.

Makes sense. I can kinda relate to Gavrel, though I don't have the massive trauma (for which I am very grateful). I'm older than I look (and act, rather), and don't fit a lot of demographic data for my age. Of course, I don't have kids, and people with kids tend to seem older because they are responsible for entire other humans. I'm the same - I don't mind telling you, or a couple other people about my age, but it's not going in a public post.

Age is often just a number. I have been informed by a relative in their* late 70s that they sometimes feel old, and sometimes don't feel anywhere near their age. "I can remember things that happened well over 60 years ago; how is this a thing?" sort of feeling.

*Just don't want any other identifying info, because, hence "they".

Age is weird. Time is weird. Gavrel is also weird, but in a good way. Except maybe the poison eating, if he forgets someone else is eating it! (Does anyone actually know what poisons taste like? Can you keep the taste but remove the toxicity, and thus find out the flavor? But who would want to test it??)

Your first shot hits near one of its eyes, causing a vicious roar. The Capcaun pulls back, and the ground starts rumbling around, knocking you off balance. An arm shoots out of the ground, then another, intent on crawling its way from the ground to get to its prey instead of catching you close enough to wrap its tongue around. You make your second shot as you fall, more on instinct than intention, and you shoot through a tree branch above, which creaks and groans. The ogre-thing looks up as it falls, and the tree branch slides straight into its gullet, killing it dead there and then. “Well. Okay.” I pick myself up. “Not what I was going for but I guess it worked.” Gavrel, who was struggling to balance himself, looks over at you and declares, "I think you're insane." I open my mouth to refute him and then close it. “I’m in good company?” I suggest instead, with a slight shrug. He chortles at that. "Fair assessment, but I had years to get this way," he says.

@sweetcardamom here's one of the many quotes where someone tells Morwen she's nuts. I think Gavrel considers himself a bit bonkers too, but he's not only been in Terrafell a lot longer than she has, he's at a game level where he can get away with doing insane things because he's well beyond normal human capabilities. (I have pegged him as somewhere between Captain America and Wolverine on the scale of superhuman healing and strength, with a bit of Quicksilver thrown in because he's got super-speed as well.) Morwen, on the other hand, is stronger and faster than she was at home, but still well within human limits. And she keeps fighting things that are thirty levels above her (like the Capcaun in this snippet) anyway. (In her defence. They do keep attacking her.)

I'M HERE, NOW WHAT?

WE'RE ONLY GODS TO THEM (island universe, cosmic sand) is a masturbatory parody involving my original characters/world/story called "we're only gods to them" (not real only exists in my mind palace) and the general premise of the legend of zelda specifically the stories breath of the wild (2017) and tears of the kingdom (2023). by general premise however i mean i'm too lazy to name shit and i liked the worldbuilding concepts like the triforce, ganon and hylia but the actual plot and explored topics/characterizations are a lot more convoluted and ridiculous as i intended.

it's something i've been slowly building up and working the kinks out of since 2019. i cannot emphasize enough how insanely self indulgent this is. from how much i love the creativity on display to make a video game enjoyable to a wide ranging audience to how awful both the loz franchise and nintendo are. first and foremost, it's an Intellectual Property that is used to Gain Profit. loz and breath of the wild notably leans hard into the pro-monarchy divine right to rule narrative. it's racist. however, it is also for children. it's a fantasy story about good vs. evil.

with that being said, imagine such a simple stupid world could curse itself into oblivion. the myth can no longer regenerate itself anew, a divine disgorgement that created new roles, unnecessary extras, a natural mutilation. in the midst of that waning power, after the world failed to save itself, but did not yet die, every finger in that pie thought now was their chance to dig. to fight. there would be a new world, but only if the right hero could revolutionize it.

Made an Adventure Time S/I! Meet Goblin Princess!

His friends call him Gavrel. He's first introduced in "the Silent King," where he's Xergiok's cousin and works in the palace. He realizes soon after Finn and Jake leave that they replaced themselves with Silent Dan, and becomes princess after revewling the ruse. Silent Dan gets to stay in charge though cause he's cool.

For a while after that Goblin Princess is just another one of the many princesses, but eventually they become part of the main group, sometime during season 4!

Correct on both counts! I would also add that Gavrel and Atticus get on like a house on fire both in the sense of rapidity and of potential destruction. Mostly to other people but also occasionally to each other.

Terrafell headcanons: Can He Use A Computer edition.

Gavrel: Yes. He’s quite good at it, being from our world and also a gamer.

Atticus: No. He’s much too busy taking it apart and trying to figure out what kind of magic powers it to actually learn how to use it. Can he put it back together? Probably. Will it function as intended after he does? Unclear. Will it do something? Most certainly.

Furniture Man: Sort of. With sufficient instruction I think he could master the technical aspects, at least enough to log on and use a browser, but he’s fundamentally confused by the purpose of this strange device. He might comprehend e-mail but I think that’s as far as he’d get.

The Doc: As soon as he found out that you could research medical knowledge from our world using one, he’d get someone to teach him how to use a browser and then spend the next eight hours reading every freely available medical journal or periodical he could get his hands on in equal parts fascination and outrage (because they heal people WITHOUT MAGIC here and that’s amazing but also why didn’t you just. Grow that person a new kidney instead of inventing dialysis).

Nik: No. He is vaguely intrigued by the concept but he doesn’t care enough to learn. He’d rather be sailing.

Follow-up to the last question: did he pick up what I was thinking when the necklace went off, or were my boys thinking MURDER so loudly that he didn't get it? (In general, what was he picking up from us during that conversation? Morwen is operating on the theory that he hears pretty much everything and gets context for it, but I'm not so sure, especially after finding out what he thinks about my world.)

He doesn't get context. He gets thoughts, meanings, intentions, memories if you're retelling something that happened to you. If you reference something, he'll understand what you're trying to imply by it, but he won't get the context of it. He's learned to categorize references and implications together, but that's something he's worked for, and not something that comes naturally. (For example, if you reference The One Ring, he'll understand you mean dark temptations, but he won't understand the context of it being from a book. If you reference the LotR again, but it's about elves and Rivendell but not the Ring, he won't put those two together until they're in the same thoughts together.)

So, yes, he heard that you were thinking about the terrors, but he doesn't know when you learned about that or why you know it or if you've had experience in the past with them. He knows Gavrel knows what he is, and that he wants him dead, but Gavrel never actually thought the word murder. Atticus was mostly going on about how being healed was preventing him from doing his job.

Currently in Terrafell:

Two couples are chilling in a pool. At one end we have two adults. The adults (Morwen and Gavrel) are enjoying the scenery and bonding peacefully.

At the other end we have two teenagers (Atticus and Smol and Angry). They spent several minutes yelling at each other and are now making out.

The Adults are studiously ignoring them. The whole situation tickles my funny bone.
