Exciting news for all Simbu fans! After teasing his next project, Silambarasan TR has officially announced his collaboration with director Ashwath Marimuthu. AGS Entertainment, the production house behind the film, revealed the news on Monday, confirming the project, tentatively titled AGS 27.
After hinting at a film that would blend the elements of "Dum," "Vallavan," and "Manmadhan" with a Gen Z perspective, Silambarasan has found the perfect collaborator in Ashwath Marimuthu. The director, known for his innovative storytelling and ability to connect with audiences, is set to bring a fresh and exciting take to the project.
This marks Ashwath Marimuthu's second collaboration with AGS Entertainment, following the highly anticipated "Dragon" starring Pradeep Ranganathan. The director's debut film, "Oh My Kadavule," starring Ashok Selvan and Ritika Singh, garnered critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase.
Silambarasan, who recently completed dubbing for his portions in Kamal Haasan-Mani Ratnam's "Thug Life," is currently awaiting the commencement of his 48th film with Desingh Periyasamy. His last on-screen appearance was in "Pathu Thala," opposite Gautham Karthik.
While the plot and the rest of the cast for AGS 27 are yet to be revealed, fans are eagerly anticipating the exciting journey that lies ahead for Silambarasan TR and Ashwath Marimuthu.

‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’ movie review: A delightful look at life and relationships during lockdown
New Post has been published on https://jordarnews.in/putham-pudhu-kaalai-movie-review-a-delightful-look-at-life-and-relationships-during-lockdown/
‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’ movie review: A delightful look at life and relationships during lockdown
Five Tamil filmmakers offer insights on love and hope with their varied storylines in this anthology that is more hit than miss
Lockdown and COVID-19 have hit the film industry hard, with multiple shootings being cancelled in the last few months and several releases stalled.
But there is always scope for new beginnings, be it in films or real life.
And that is the common theme in Putham Pudhu Kaalai, an anthology that packs in the works of five accomplished Kollywood filmmakers in one long stretch. Amazon Prime has had a few average outings with respect to Tamil cinema in the last few months. However, they now seem to be making all the right noises with ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’. How do the five short films fare?

Ilamai Idho Idho
Director: Sudha Kongara
Cast: Jayaram, Kalidas Jayaram, Urvashi, Kalyani Priyadarshan
There’s a huge Mani Ratnam and Alaipayuthe hangover to this, but the simple story thread and leads are charming. If Jayaram rolls back the years in his sequences with Urvashi, Kalidas and Kalyani’s endearing chemistry hits all the right notes. The domestic conflicts portrayed are all very relatably middle-class and Sudha’s writing of romance is classy. Ilamai Idho Idho is also an example of how to include small songs in OTT-aimed subjects. Composer GV Prakash is in fine musical form, filling in the gaps neatly. Also, watch out for SP Charan crooning a lilting number. SPB might have gone, but there’s still hope.
Avarum Naanum / Avalum Naanam
Director: Gautham Menon
Cast: MS Bhaskar, Ritu Varma
MS Bhaskar isn’t the quintessential stylish dad here, nor is this film anything like you’ve seen from GVM before. Known for his classy romantic touch in his subjects, Gautham does a complete U-turn here, while he sets out to explore — with emotional depth — the relationship between a grandfather and granddaughter in this short. MS Bhaskar is a scientist who has won scores of awards, but was he ever a dedicated family member? This moot question is answered while Ritu moves in with him during the lockdown. With some fun touches of how senior citizens have adapted to technology and a general commentary on the new WFH routine among IT employees , this short might be a little slow for an OTT watch, but is still quite stirring.
Coffee, Anyone?
Director: Suhasini Mani Ratnam
Cast: Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Anu Hasan, Shruti Haasan
Adamance is a recurring theme here. The character of Kathadi Ramamurthy (a familiar face from the Tamil stage), is stubborn regarding a medical decision. His wife was stubborn in the past, we learn, and so is their youngest daughter (Shruti Haasan), now based in Mumbai. We get a sense of what Soundara, the grand old lady of the house, might have been, but not much beyond that. This short explores familial conflicts, but the staging and performances are a tad too old-fashioned. It tries packing in too many subjects, leaving little time to explore them. This coffee could have been a little stronger.
Reunion
Director: Rajiv Menon
Cast: Andrea Jeremiah, Leela Samson, Sikkil Gurucharan
If the lockdown can create tension within people who are family, what about friends who we once knew? How much would they have changed as time passed by? Reunion, packed with some hard-hitting surprises, revolves around how Sadhana (Andrea) rediscovers herself. Popular Carnatic musician Sikkil Gurucharan passes muster as a doctor, while Leela Samson fits perfectly into the ambience of the tastefully-done house. There’s a smart callback to a popular song in an earlier film of the director, and the neat poetic touch in the climax is a good signal for new beginnings: one of the common themes present in all the films in the anthology.
Miracle
Director: Karthik Subbaraj
Cast: Bobby Simha, Muthu Kumar
Karthik Subbaraj might have done a Rajinikanth ‘mass’ film, but his ability to pack in lots of interesting details in a limited time period continues to make him one of the most exciting filmmakers in Tamil cinema. He proves this yet again in Miracle. Life for two small-time ruffians is hard due to the lockdown, but they have a master plan to turn that upside-down. Does that happen? Bobby and Muthu have a lot going for them in this tale that is set in a radically different universe when compared to the rest of the stories. Do watch out for the twist that Karthik Subbaraj is famously known for.
Putham Pudhu Kaalai will stream on Amazon Prime from October 16

Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn: Gautham Menon’s short instills hope in the time of a pandemic - regional movies
https://www.liveindiatimes.com/karthik-dial-seytha-yenn-gautham-menons-short-instills-hope-in-the-time-of-a-pandemic-regional-movies/
Filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon’s new short film Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn, which was released on Thursday, instills hope in the time of coronavirus pandemic. The short follows Karthik, played by Simbu, who is having a writer’s block. He calls Jessie (Trisha) to find inspiration but in the process reveals that he still loves her. She’s now happily married and a mother of two.
Karthik and Jessie are characters Gautham Menon’s highly successful romantic drama Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya. The shot, in about 12 minutes, tries to encapsulate what has happened in the lives of Karthik and Jessie since the film.

Throughout the phone conversation, Jessie tries to console Karthik, a man-child struggling to grow out of his insecurities. She instills hope that everything is going to be alright.
The industry grapevine is that the short is a precursor to the sequel to Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, which Gautham Menon plans to make soon. He recently revealed that he’s ready to go to shoot for the sequel if he gets a go ahead from Simbu.
On the career front, the filmmaker has two projects ready for release. While he has completed shooting and awaits release of Joshua, an action-thriller; he’s stuck with post-production work on his long-delayed spy thriller, Dhruva Natchathiram.

Gautham recently confirmed he has plans to make a sequel to cop thriller Vettaiyaadu Villayadu. In his interview The Hindu, Gautham confirmed about Vettaiyaadu Villayadu 2. In the interview, talking about the epic opening scene in the first part, Gautham said it’s a fan’s tribute to Kamal Haasan.
“I am a huge fanboy who wrote that scene even though the rest of the film was not like that, just for the audience to celebrate this man. You step aside from the filmmaker you are momentarily. That was a fan’s tribute. Vettaiyaadu Villayadu 2 also has a similar opening scene and I’m really looking forward to shoot that,” Gautham said.

The project, after being announced with much fanfare last year, was shelved a few months ago after fallout with Simbu and producer Suresh Kamatchi. The project was supposed to go on the floors finally from July after being deferred multiple times. When Simbu couldn’t take out time as promised, Suresh had to go ahead and drop the idea of making the film with him. Also read: Salman Khan visits sister Arpita, niece Ayat in hospital with Iulia Vantur, jokes ‘bas kisike baap nahi bane’Director Venkat Prabhu, soon after the project was dropped, took to Twitter to share a heartfelt post. “It’s very unfortunate that I couldn’t work with my brother Simbu in Manaadu. Thanks for all the love,” Prabhu tweeted. However, as per latest reports, the project has been revived and the team is expected start shooting early next year. Not long ago, the makers had signed Kalyani Priyadarshan as the leading lady. 01/5Four reasons why the Naga Chaitanya and Samantha starer is the best romantic entertainer of all time
Gautham Menon’s cinematic marvel Ye Maaya Chesavestarring Akkineni Naga Chaitanya and Samantha completed ten years on Wednesday. It was directed by Gautham Menon and produced by Manjula Ghattamaneni and Sanjay Swaroop under the banner of Indira Productions. The movie not only became one of the biggest hits of 2010 but was also appreciated by both the critics and the audience. Even though the success of the film is enough for us to go watch, again and again, we will still give you four reasons why the Naga Chaitanya and Samantha starrer is the best romantic entertainer of all time.
readmore
02/5The film’s story and characters
The film revolved around the life of Naga Chaitanya’s character Karthik and showed his journey of loving the conservative Christian woman who is elder than him. In the movie, Akkineni Naga Chaitanya portrayed the role of a Hindu engineering graduate named Karthik who wants to become a film director. Samantha played the character of Jessie, a Kerala Christian who is a software techie by profession. Other than Naga Chaitanya and Samantha, the film also features Krishnudu, Devan, Sudheer Babu, Surekha Vani, Lakshmi Ramakrishnan and Sapan Saran in crucial roles.

03/5The lead pair’s performance
As for the performances, Ye Maaya Chesave rests mostly on the shoulders of its lead cast Naga Chaitanya and Samantha. Ye Maaya Chesave, which happens to be Chay’s second film (his debut being Josh), also sees him grow superlatively as an actor. The film made Naga Chaitanya a household name, the talented actor with guy-next-door charm. On the other hand, Samantha, besides looking good, has also contributed immensely towards the film. Her performance in this film will definitely go down as one of her most memorable performances. She made his debut with this flick, and she instantly won hearts with her charm screen presence.
readmore
04/5Gautham Menon’s craft
Gautham Menon knows the pulse of the audiences, especially while narrating romantic love stories onscreen and we had experienced some magic from a script penned by the famous film-maker. The hard work that he has put in as a director in Ye Maaya Chesave him rich dividends in the film. The film also has many noteworthy scenes. For example, the conflict between the lead pair has been shot really well.
readmore
05/5Refreshing and Uncompromising music
When it comes to a romantic entertainer like Ye Maaya Chesave, one expects a magical soundtrack at best. Moreover, director Gautham Menon has a particular style of music in her films, and one is assured of that with Anantha Sreeram as the lyricist. Academy Award-winning composer AR Rahman is the composer of Ye Maaya Chesave which has seven tracks. The recording and production of the songs are top-notch with beautiful orchestration. The appeal of the songs and lyrics make them perfect for the situational setting of the song and standalone listening.

‘Paava Kadhaigal’ interview: How Vetri Maaran, Gautham Menon, Vignesh Shivan and Sudha Kongara joined the Netflix anthology
New Post has been published on https://jordarnews.in/paava-kadhaigal-interview-how-vetri-maaran-gautham-menon-vignesh-shivan-and-sudha-kongara-joined-the-netflix-anthology/
‘Paava Kadhaigal’ interview: How Vetri Maaran, Gautham Menon, Vignesh Shivan and Sudha Kongara joined the Netflix anthology
Four of Kollywood’s popular directors talk about their upcoming collaboration on Netflix that will explore stories of sin, love, pride and honour
What is a sin?
Four leading filmmakers of Tamil cinema are set to give us their perspective on it, in the form of an anthology film Paava Kadhaigal, dropping on Netflix later this month. Touted to be on a hard-hitting subject, the four storylines will explore how love, pride and honour influence complex relationships. It is helmed by Vetri Maaran, Gautham Menon, Sudha Kongara and Vignesh Shivan, and stars Prakash Raj, Sai Pallavi, Anjali, Simran, Kalidas, Kalki Koechlin and Shanthnu, among others.
While Netflix has actively been putting out anthologies in Bollywood, Paava Kadhaigal is their first such outing in Tamil cinema. The last decade has thrown up a few interesting anthologies in Kollywood, including Aviyal, Solo and Sillu Karupatti. But Paava Kadhaigal, produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies and Ashi Dua Sara’s Flying Unicorn Entertainment, might be the biggest of them all, considering the names involved. Excerpts from a quick Zoom chat with the four acclaimed filmmakers:
Vetri Maaran
An anthology is a collective work in which you come together for a common idea, irrespective of whether you are like-minded or not. That itself is an experience. It is more than just being the take of a filmmaker on a topic; it is also an effective cinematic form where you share ideas and put forward content for discussion.
Paava Kadhaigal will showcase emotional moments of people in dire situations, and how their choices reflects the world they come from. That way, we question certain aspects of the society through these stories.
‘Freedom to explore’
Theatrical film has a certain kind of tradition where it usually revolves around one protagonist, ideally a younger person. You don’t have the freedom to tell a story of a 84-year-old woman or a three-year-old child. Even if you make a Baby’s Day Out, you need to make it in the adult world, meaning that the little child has to win over several people so that the masses come in. In OTT, when you are making a film outside theatrical compulsions, there is freedom to explore on the content. There is also a big burden taken off my shoulders about how other people, be it my producer or editor, would respond to it. I think working on these projects will help a filmmaker find his real voice; in a theatrical film, only a shade of you can be seen in some of the films.
Gautham Menon
The idea of the anthology is to have an aspect of sin in all stories, and also talk about relationships in families. It is about what happens when something goes wrong, and how someone handles a situation in which you want to disown someone, who is your kith and kin. It all falls under the common theme: ‘sin stories’. It makes for intense viewing and aimed at leaving an impact. The films do have humour, comedy and emotion, but it will have gut-wrenching moments.
Acting v/s direction
I have acted in my portion, but I generally don’t like doing it. As an actor, I completely go with the director and the crew; I took up Malayalam film Trance because of its filmmakers and Fahadh Faasil, who I am a big fan of. If one of these three (Vetrimaaran, Vignesh and Sudha) call me for a part, I will surely go. But directing myself was not too easy. I also did it because two actors who were supposed to do it initially backed out. So, at the last minute, I decided to do it myself. I had to check that out with Simran, who was playing the female part, because she kept asking who was going to play that. I have great respect for her, and she led from the front. If you watch the film, you will know who directed whom.
Working for OTT platforms…
It was very liberating. I made Queen, which had five episodes of great content, sometime back. The way we worked on it was interesting, not being worried about aspects like timing of a particular shot, and what should come in the tenth minute and all that. Since I had already done that, I eased into Paava Kadhaigal. For me, it is not about how long your work is — whether it is ten minutes or half hour — you put your all. Even my short, Karthik Dial Seytha Enn, was done because I was passionate about that thirteen minutes of writing. So, when this idea of being in a film with three other contemporary filmmakers whose work I admire and respect, I got into it gung-ho.
Comparison with peers
Isn’t it beautiful that all our films will follow each other in one comprehensive work, within the space of minutes? If I saw these four names, I would myself probably pick Vetri’s film to watch first, but I am happy to be in that space.
Vignesh Shivan
Space for individuality
Initially, the give and take between us four was only to decide the topic. Once that was decided, we never knew what the other person was going to do, or the casting. After the films got completed, we interacted with each other; and that really helped. Not knowing what the other person was doing helped; we had the space to decide what we want without the influence of other one.
OTT versus theatre films
In a theatrical experience, creating a moment is somewhat easy; you can have a callback to a previous film, and if 10 people laugh, the others in the hall usually join in. When you create for OTT, you are solely dependent on your content; we have no clue how the audiences are watching it, and with whom. The two are different formats, and both enjoyable in their own way.
Sudha Kongara
Four voices, one story
I was busy with another feature when this came up, but the biggest reason I took it up was because it was fantastic to team up with these three names. I have been a huge fan of Gautham; I remember him editing Kaakha Kaakha and I used to pray for it to become a superhit. I adore Vetri’s work since Polladhavan; I have even called him in the middle of the night to tell him what an amazing film he has made. And, I enjoyed Vignesh’s Naanum Rowdy Than a lot. So, when you are working with these three guys, you have to up your game and that was a big challenge. What is most exciting is that there are four different voices to say the same kind of story.
Honest approach
I wrote Paava Kadhaigal the same way I wrote my feature films Irudhi Sutru or Soorarai Potru. I was more honest in this film rather, because you can afford to be real and get away with it.
Who’s acting?
I would not like to reveal my portion’s plot but Kalidas and Shanthanu have done excellent parts. Kali was to initially star in Shanthanu’s part, but things changed because I could not find anyone for the role. However, once the casting and reading happened, I could not imagine this project with anyone else.
