#gaul being france's mom was always in my mind

The idea of one personification for Gaul is tricky because, like I said in this post , the different Gaulish tribes were conscious of belonging to a same sort of "nation" (not the same way we define it now), like they knew they were similar and belonging to an approximate geographical area, but they felt different from each other in a way.

My idea for a (Celtic) Gaul OC is a woman (I can't picture her as anything but that) who likes to travel between her different tribes and territory. She feels free this way, and it's a sentiment that she enjoys very much. I saw over the years that a lot of people saw Gaul as "feral," and while the idea seems interesting, I don't really know. I feel like in Rome's eyes, she'd definitely be feral, but would she be like almost ""savage""? What would that mean ? Eh. However, she knows how to fight. Her people did have a society that loved their warriors after all. But she also liked the calmness of nature. She could be quite the solitary woman in some ways. She was also very close with the average people, not only with the aristocracy. She often crashed at their houses, ate with them, and took part in working on farms sometimes as well.

She has a lot of children, they each represent a tribe. Because of how much they are, she can't have a close relationship with a lot of them, and while they are her biological children, she'd only really know those who are from the most prominent tribes (The Aeduii, the Remii,...). The other kids are usually closer to their siblings from tribes theirs interact with the most or are clients of. She believed it was better for her children to be raised independently from her so that 1. they wouldn't be too attached to her if something happened to her and 2. so they could enjoy the same sense of freedom she liked. She thought that since her people took care of her children, they'd be fine without seeing her for months, even years. It's not that she didn't love or care for them. She absolutely did in her own way, and so did her children.

Talking of children, I see France as one of her many biological children. Which tribe was he from? It doesn't matter (I haven't thought about it). For now, because I can't see how to reconcile both France being Gaul's kid and Gaul having a child for each tribe in any other way, I see this as what happened in regards to why he seems to be the only one left. Let's just say that he got "lucky". Gaul died shortly after 52BCE and her children slowly followed suit until they were only a few one. France managed to get close enough to Rome that he could survive easily with his favour, and so that's how he outlived all his children. This might have made him feel guilty a little bit, he felt as if he was betraying his family. But still being a kid and not wanting to leave no trace of his family, that's what he did. Then Germania killed Rome eventually, he brought France over to the Franks and so on and so on...

Back to Gaul, she had 2 or 3 other siblings. Belgae is definitely her closest sibling. He is slightly crazier than his sister, but she doesn't mind. She has/had Transalpina as another sibling, I don't know it if either died following being made a Roman Province or not, I haven't thought about it that much. As for Aquitania, I also don't really know if they are really related to the Gauls. From what I read, they seemed way more different than the rest of Gaul, so yeah.

Her relationship with Rome was... interesting. She had an interest in him. Not necessarily romantic, but she was intrigued by his people, his culture, and his goods. They were rivals, ever since the sack of Rome, actually. Her favourite thing to do when see him is tease him. But she was mostly suspicious of him. When Transalpina became a Roman province, she started being wary of him expanding onto her territory. However, at the beginning of the Gallic Wars, she only realised what Rome (or Caesar, but anyway) was trying to do and to what extent he went too late to stop it immediately. She was fully for Vercingetorix's counterforce, but they lost. She tried to escape but was caught. Rome emprisoned her for having taken part in Alesia, but he didn't have her killed. As she realised she might never get her full freedom again, she decided to kill herself and be free instead of living under bars for who knows how long (very shakespearian, I know 💃). As for her children, they were each caught, and as the Gauls became Gallo-Romans, at some point, only one was left.

While France didn't have many occasions to be close to his mom, he only had good memories of her. And one that stuck with him was how close she liked to be with her people. He doesn't miss her as often as one would think as he had been used to her absence even in her life. But when, in recent centuries, his people started putting the spotlight on the Gauls, he started to become a little nostalgic. It felt gratifying to hear that his people from today (French) regarded his people from his early childhood (Gauls) as their ancestors, it was sort of validating, even if he knew very well why this interestet grew. I like to picture him talking to historians about daily life in gaul or to linguist about the gaulish language and then suddenly sidetracking to make a whole speech on his mom and how free and inspiring and happy she was.

What would her name be though? I don't know yet...

I am having the feelings for my gaul oc tonight. probably gonna write this out wake up in the morning and see none of this is coherent and then I'll delete it BUT FOR NOW it is 3 am and I have feelings(tm)

Gaul had 5 kids. 1 with Rome (France) and 4 with Germania (HRE, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium).

Now, I see a lot of 'France had a wonderful relationship with his mom!!" bro he absolutely did not. Welcome to the wonderful world of Gaul hated Rome and every time she looked at France all she could see was his father even though as we all know François looks nothing like Romulus. France always knew his mother didn't really love him, not completely at least; he doesn't even have an 'epiphany' moment, he just grew up knowing it. When France was idk, five, maybe six, Gaul for lack of better term ran away from Rome's house. She escaped (eventually he'd catch her again unfortunately) she ran for the hills and for a long while was free.

She ended up married to Germania, how we got there doesn't matter rn, but they were married. We can discuss though how they had very different views of their marriage, partially bc they didn't know how to communicate for shit. Gaul always thought them ending up together resulted from nothing but the fact that they had a common enemy. Germania always thought they were married because they enjoyed being with each other, which wasn't completely untrue. they had a decent relationship, but, it wasn't anything special.

They hadn't been married long when their first child came along, a daughter, Adelheid (or Heidi). Now, Heidi may have been the personification of The Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation; she was also Eldest Daughter Syndrome personified. yknow the "I hate my mother. My mother is the only person who understands me. I'm more like my father. My father doesn't know a thing about me."

Switzerland would be the only one to ever be able to claim he knew his mother. Really knew her, it was an odd thing but Heidi was trying so hard to please their father that it left Aldrich with his mother all the time, he didn't mind. He would be the most torn up by her death, part of his "how do you feel?" "I don't" mentality comes from the extra traumatic circumstances surrounding Gaul's death.

Netherlands didn't have much of a relationship with his mother. When Rome did find Gaul again she was pregnant with him, Rome didn't know that not for a few months. When Eitel would be born Rome would basically call a meeting with Germania to go 'I believe this belongs to you' give him newborn Ned and half-order him to never come back.

I've talked about Belgium before; but I'll say it again. She was born when her mother was living under, and her father was working for Rome. Emma was born, they passed her off as Rome's kid for a good while before he connected some dots and disowned her.

France hated his half-siblings, he despised them. Why? Gaul didn't love France; she couldn't. And he tried his hardest to convince himself that he wasn't jealous, that he was happy they got what he didn't. But in the end, some of his last words to Heidi were "what do you have that I don't? What made her love you?"

His relationship with his siblings has gotten better as time has gone on, it won't be the same as if they grew up together obviously. But it's good, they're all happy with the state of it.

But sometimes, sometimes François can't help but look at Aldrich, Eitel, and Emma with a pang of jealousy and wonder again "what made maman love them?"

mistew Louis aka 2p France is! depressed. obviously. lowkey like fanon but not AS bastard. His past was very unepic bc he used to be very abusive and had an awful ass alcohol addiction and he took out his repressed childhood abuse by his mom Dana (2p gaul) on matt which was not good fucking obviously but they tight now and like louis loves him a lot and him and his mom have made up and he loves her a lot and she loves him and in this house we really love healing!!! (hes married to oliver and oliver makes him smile so much wah...)Allen is a whoremonger BICEABVCIH hes pretty much kinda fanon but hes just chillin? His boyfriend is 2p Korea aka Yeong and hes a serious -_- businessman and Allen is a :P swut. Theyre married and love eachother very much and have a kid named Nari she is so so cute and they love her to death!! Allen’s best friends are Luciano, Tom (2p ireland), Kuro, and Matt (obviously). He used to have a weird rocky relationship with Oliver because man that revolution shit then seeing him again at like world meetings years later is like “a”. but eventually they healed over it and now oliver is like wahh my SON!!! Hes had a rocky relationship with Dustin (2P Molosia which we basically have him as Allen’s son bc like cmon that makes sense idk how it wouldnt but guess what its free real estate fuck you!) and its just now getting sorta better but it hasnt quite reached mutual healing level yet in fact dustin is still very bitter over allen.

Matt.,.,. is very epic.. total 100% man.. he is lumberjack and heee HAS A FARM!! HE LOVES HIS ANIMALS SO MUCH.,.,., and and... HES MARRIED TO FLAVIOOOO!! They love eachother so so so much and Flavio is like yes I love my yee yee boy wow hes so amazing. And Matt is like wow love my gucci gang husband look at him go...

OLIVER,. AGH. OKAY SO HIS FAMILY IS VERY VAST!!! I LOVE OLIVERS FAMILY A LOT.... (AND ARTHURS I LOVE KIRKLANDS A LOT AHAH..) SO!! His mum is!! Brittania! aka GWENNNNN!!! I LOVE GWEN! SHES AMAZING. YOU KNOW WHO ELSE LOVES GWEN? HER HUSBAND BIORNA AKA 2P CELT!!! Oliver is the youngest of 5 (now 4..) BROTHERS. His brothers from oldest to youngest are Robert/Robbie (2p Scotland), Tom, (2p Ireland), REDACTED (who is tom’s twin aka 2p north ireland but hes very very bad and we killed him off for a good reason trust me), Owen (2p Wales), AND FINALLY OLLIEEEE!! Ollie has a good relationship with all of his alive brothers and his mum and dad love him unconditionally! Oliver is in a happy marriage with his childhood love of his live and he adores his kids to death! Oliver wasnt always super super peppy and some days he isnt because his depression can get to him but he always gets help from his family and friends!

He used to be a bottle of shit and abuse his sisters and a few other select people but hes not like tHAT anymore god wow that was such a shitty time for so many people ugh. But anyways now he is in a very happy marriage with Zao aka 2p china and he loves him a lot. He has an excellent relationship with his sisters now Bella (2p belarus) and Ivannka (2p ukraine). He has two epic parents Vlad(imir) (2p Keivan Rus) and then Cath(erine) and i forgot who she represented but like yes...... Cath and Vlad love eachother very much. Shy wife and big bad looking husband but goes soft for his wife........... Viktor is really epic he has a horse dog aka the please can i get some beets dog........... i stan him viktor is a god

ZAO IS THAT. BITCH.! He is a transman icon and is so so cool. He loves all of his kids SO SO much (aka like all the asian countries tbfh) and like WwaAHH!! He was actually... super tame like he doesnt really have an ~abusive~ esque past bc hes just chillin most the time and he has struggled with his own self worth but he figured it out and said fuck you to everyone who was in his way of being himself as a happy person and even as a trans person. hes a really powerful person and icon and he loves his kids and husband so much gn
