what if when we finally meet gaster he's just given up completely, like as soon as we find him he just acts like seam or a second, more apathetic sans

like, we're given a few hints that Gaster can at least watch and listen to what goes on in the world and his erasure from the timeline is definitely before Flowey first woke up and did his first reset, so like Gaster very likely saw what Flowey did in his hundreds, thousands, possibly millions of resets

all while with each reset your existence is slowly being more and more forgotten and written over.

Seeing the same days play out again and again, watching people you care about being killed over and over, being cursed with this knowledge but having no way to stop it

at some point you'd just stop caring, and at some point you wouldn't even want to go back

at some point you'd wonder, would your return even matter?

Maybe it would matter in a world that's not your own, a world where there's no soulless flower controlling time

but would it even be possible to escape?

Only time will tell

and in that time, an experiment can be conducted
