24 and piarles? 👀

It's a little embarrassing, how Pierre has let their evening plans get to his own head. It's just a family dinner, he'd tried to tell himself, it is the same as it is every single time, but the words fall on his own deaf ears. This isn't just any family dinner. No, this is his first real family dinner as The Fiancé--not just as Charles Leclerc's best friend, or his something that everyone had been polite enough to ignore, or his boyfriend. This is real. It feels more daunting than ever as he flips through the closet, the flood of colors somehow both too much and not enough as he tries to focus his attention on looking nice and not, you know. The rest of it.

"Shit," he mumbles to himself as he accidentally tugs a hoard of ties off of the hanger they'd been carefully arranged on. Is a tie too much? He knows everyone at dinner like they're his own family--they are, they will be, they always have been--but he hasn't spoken to them since their last group outing between race weekends, and that was months before Pierre had actually popped the question. Maybe their tastes have changed. That's always a possibility, right? Three months is plenty of time to like and dislike something new, isn't it?

"Are your clothes really more interesting than me, mon amour?" Charles' voice is distant from the bathroom door across the room, and Pierre swivels to see his fiancé leaning in the doorframe, looking remarkably smooth considering who he is. The towel wrapped around his waist is hanging low. Pierre would normally toss any concerns aside and drag him to bed to ruin him a little for looking so good after a shower.

But it's not a normal afternoon, and Pierre is too preoccupied with perfection to really give Charles the time of day. "You smell nice," is what he goes with, and then turns back around to pick up and re-lay the ties as they'd been. He'll shower once he picks his outfit out. They've got plenty of time to not be late--

"Pierre," Charles purrs, suddenly right behind him. He wraps his arms around Pierre's waist and tucks his head into the crook of his shoulder, warm and wet and pleasant the way he always is. "Are you sick?"

Pierre hums. "Why would you ask that, bebe," he mumbles absentmindedly. Blue is a good color, isn't it?

"I am butt naked and my towel is falling off and you haven't said a word," his fiancé answers immediately. "I don't remember the last time you have given me so little of your attention after a shower in...a long time." Well. He plants a kiss to the back of Pierre's shoulder. "Are you okay?"

Pierre sighs. "I'm okay," he confirms, then turns to wrap his arms properly around Charles. "Sorry. I am just...you know what, you're going to laugh at me. I'm fine."

Charles scoffs, the warmth of it curling in his ear. "I will only laugh if it's funny," he says pointedly, raising his eyebrows. Pierre rolls his eyes. "I'm kidding, petit. What is it?"

A groan. "I...am trying to get dressed for tonight."

Charles hums. "And?" Like there's more to it--like Pierre isn't just being neurotic because he's worried that the matching rings on their fingers will make Pascale and Lorenzo and Arthur look at him differently than before. It's ridiculous. Isn't it?

Pierre clears his throat. "I want to look nice," he whispers. "I want to look nice for your mother."

Charles giggles. "Pascale always thinks you look nice," he murmurs. With another breath of laughter, he leans in and kisses lazily at Pierre's cheek. "What are you worried about?" His mouth is curved into a beautiful smile against Pierre's beard, every inch lighting him up. "Pierre."

"Charles," he says, "this is the first time I am coming into her home as her future son-in-law."

At that, Charles stills; the smile on his face softens. Pierre can feel it press into an easy line. "Pierre," he murmurs, cradling Pierre's face with his other hand, "do you really think this is the first time you'll be in her home as her future son-in-law?" The smile returns, small and easy. "She knew it would be you before I did."

At that, Pierre snorts. "Shut up," he chuckles, tugging Charles' water-slick body closer.

Charles squeaks out a laugh. "It's true," he protests, "you have nothing to worry about." He squeezes Pierre in his embrace. "My mother loves you. She has always loved you." Another kiss drops onto Pierre's cheek. "My mother is going to love you, because she always has, and you could show up in a garbage bag tonight and she would still feel the same."

The sentiment makes Pierre laugh--real, this time, expelling the last of his ridiculous anxieties. "Pascale would kill me if I showed up in a garbage bag," he says, and Charles giggles again right in his ear.

"She would," he concedes. "I can help you get dressed, if it makes you feel better." He pauses. "After you help me dry off, of course." Pierre raises a brow. "We can use my towel." His face is wicked with a mix of silliness and desire, and Pierre...loves him. So much.

"Bed," he instructs softly, smacking a hand to Charles' side. "I don't want to miss a spot, bebe." Charles lights up in a blush when Pierre winks at him, and...yeah. He'll just shower after.

Maybe Charles will even join him.
