"I met him and he had a spectacular energy to him. He was all over the "I met him and he had a spectacular energy to him. He was all over the room. He had a real danger to him, yet he was also funny and charming, which were two really important things to me."
Scott Frank, director of The Lookout, on why he cast Matthew Goode as Gary Spargo, seemingly against type. I love this quote, so telling about the mercurial actor that Matthew is. He will always surprise you.
I thought I would do a Lookout edit today (an under-rated gem of a film noir, I love it so much) to celebrate the fact Scott and Matthew are being reunited in Department Q. This makes for a great team!

The Lookout (2007)
Tumblr media
8/10
Some good action and great acting.
The film focuses on Chris (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a bank cleaner who suffered major brain damage after a car accident. He is approached by Gary (Matthew Goode) to act as a lookout in a bank robbery.
Tumblr media
The sheer amount of research done by Gordon-Levitt and Jeff Daniels to accurately portray characters with brain damage and blindness is very clear. Both convey the respective conditions well.
This was one of Matthew's first ventures as a villain and he pulled it off very well. Heck he got the role of Ozymandias/Adrian Weidt in Watchmen partly due to his performance here. He's very manipulative and exudes a kind of sleazy charm. And he has a very nice back!
Unfortunately there were some dull scenes. I also kept wondering how Chris was allowed to drive due to the severe neurological trauma.
Definitely worth a view though.

Hawkins-inspired Cats down Demons
Tumblr media
GEELONG has kept its top-four aspirations alive with a remarkable two-point win over Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday night.
Tumblr media
A seven-goal performance from Tom Hawkins inspired Geelong to a remarkable two-point win over Melbourne. The Demons looked on course for just their third victory at the Cattery in the AFL era when they established a 23-point lead at three-quarter time. But, the Cats found another gear in the final term and off the back of a virtuoso performance from birthday boy Tom Hawkins came with a 16.4 (100) to 14.14 (98) win. The result sees Geelong improve to 10-7 on the season, one game adrift of fourth-placed Port Adelaide who take on Greater Western Sydney at Adelaide Oval on Sunday. Melbourne, meanwhile, also have a 10-7 record and are still searching for a major scalp ahead of what will surely be their first finals campaign since 2006. Hawkins has played bigger games in his career, but he has never put together a more complete performance, the 30-year-old tallying 19 possessions, eight marks, seven goals and 11 score involvements. Tim Kelly underlined why the Cats are desperate to lock him away, the West Australian talent gathering 32 possessions, one goal and five clearances. Gary Ablett overcame a slow start to finish with 31 disposals (15 contested), seven clearances and eight inside 50s, while Patrick Dangerfield was also influential in close with 28 touches (17 contested), including nine clearances and two goals. Mitch Duncan (31 possessions, 11 marks and one goal) and Sam Menegola (30) were strong contributors, Zach Tuohy kicked two goals among his 24 disposals and Tom Stewart continued his consistent season with 22 possessions, including eight rebound 50s and 10 intercepts. For Melbourne, young gun Clayton Oliver was enormous with 40 disposals (20 contested), including five clearances, eight inside 50s and 12 score involvements. Veterans Jordan Lewis (30 disposals) and Nathan Jones (27 and one goal) were prolific, while Angus Brayshaw generated plenty of run with 23 touches, one goal and eight inside 50s. James Harmes enhanced his reputation as a tagger, limiting Geelong skipper Joel Selwood to just 16 possessions while Tom McDonald contributed four goals. The game was played at a finals-like intensity from the outset, bodies flying in from everywhere in an attempt to win the football. There was virtually nothing separating the two teams in terms of possessions (106 to 104 in Geelong's favour) in the opening term and the evenness in the clinches was reflected on the scoreboard, with Melbourne going into quarter-time with a two-point lead. The Demons dominated the inside 50 count 36 to 25 and took eight marks inside 50 to the Cats' two in the first half, but found themselves only five points to the good at the main break. Melbourne's delivery of the football inside 50 left a lot to be desired at times, with Stewart and Blicavs, who combined for 19 intercepts, picking off the Demons' attacking forays with ease. It was goal-for-goal early in the third term before the weight of numbers began to tell the story. The Demons were giving Geelong a football lesson in the centre clearances and with their forward defensive pressure at an all-time high, Melbourne banged on four goals without reply to go into the final change with a handy buffer. McDonald's third made it a 29-point ball-game early in the final term. It was going to take something special for Geelong to get the job done and Chris Scott's men were up for the challenge. With Kelly, Ablett and Dangerfield wielding their influence at close quarters, the home team got on top at the centre clearances and fired back with five goals in quick succession with three coming from Hawkins as Geelong closed the gap to two points at the 13-minute mark. Melbourne steadied and looked set to hold on when McDonald kicked his fourth to give the visitors an eight-point edge with five minutes left on the clock. But, the Demons had no answer for Hawkins who stepped up to the plate once again with a snap from the top draw. Both teams had their chances in the closing stages before the Cats won key one-on-one contests in the defensive half with less than 30 seconds remaining. The creative Daniel Menzel was found open on the wing, his risky kick in-board paying off, Hawkins delivering the football into the forward line where Zach Tuohy took a strong contested grab. The Irishman held his nerve and did what his team mate Harry Taylor couldn't do in the round 15 loss to the Western Bulldogs, goaling after the siren to whip the Geelong fans into a frenzy. Next up for Geelong is a Saturday afternoon meeting with Brisbane at GMHBA Stadium, a match the Cats will be expected to win despite the Lions' strong recent form. Melbourne, meanwhile, will travel to Adelaide to square off against a Crows outfit that is still in contention for a finals berth. Of all Matthew Goode's baddies, rogues and villains, Gary Spargo is up there. You can see the undercurrent of danger, volatility and menace emanating from him. Don't be fooled by the good looks, he is a wrong'un. Stay away.
🖤 The Lookout, a little gem of a film noir, superbly acted by Matthew Goode.

‼️BREAKING NEWS 💥NEW LEAD ROLE💥 for Matthew Goode in Netflix crime thriller series ‘Department Q’
It started filming in January. Directed by Scott Frank, the series is based on best-selling ‘Nordic noir’ novels by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen.
The show centers around "brilliant but difficult" detective Carl Morck, wracked with guilt at a case gone wrong that left his partner paralysed and another policeman dead . He is sidelined into a new Department Q for cold cases but assembles a team of misfits and finds his A game again. The story is transposed to Edinburgh.
Frank Scott said: “Carl Morck is one of those classic detective antiheroes, funny and dark at the same time, that I can never get enough of. I think audiences will feel the same way.” (Herald)
Other cast members include Chloe Pirrie, Alexej Manvelov, Kelly MacDonald, and Leah Byrne.
Scott Frank is the lead creator. He is a sought-after scriptwriter and directed the Queen’s Gambit, Minority Report, Godless and The Lookout (with Matthew as Gary Spargo).
He will lead the team of writers including Chandni Lakhani (Black Mirror, Vigil), Stephen Greenhorn and Colette Kane.
This will be an eight-part series and will be produced by Sony-owned Left Bank Pictures, the company behind The Crown and Outlander.
Rob Bullock, Andy Harries and David Brown will be co-producing the series. (IMDB)
The book series has already been adapted into a film series in Denmark. The action will be transported from Copenhagen to Scotland for this new production.

Matthew Goode best baddie final poll 3/4
Gary Spargo
Very bad boy, the kind your mother might have warned you against. Dangerous and violent, robs banks, uses vulnerable people to get what he wants.
But he is hotter than the sun (can't remember who said that but it's great analogy) and he swaggers like Matthew Goode.
