I am currently watching the SpongeBob movie and have always been under the belief that it is the myth of the 21st century, like how Superman is the 20th century myth.
I also believe that the SpongeBob movie is just the Odyssey. And in that scenario, is the diver the crew that mutinies? The one who gives them false hope? Or would it be the fish who come back to life and attacking the cyclops who was the diver. David Hasselhoff has to be Poseidon, if Odysseus and his crew were friends.
Is Dennis actually Odysseus?
Actually, fuck. Wait. No, the SpongeBob movie is a mirror of the Odyssey. Instead of the message of becoming more ruthless and getting rid of humanity when needed, the movie instead focuses on embracing your inner child.
The progress of events in SpongeBob go as follows:
-the leaving from Ithaca and the events of the illiad (the events with Mr Krabs being framed and imprisoned as SpongeBob leaves to get the crown. The Thug Tug acts as the Trojan horse and sacking of troy, the twins acting as the infant that is sacrificed for the purpose of furthering of the journey of heroes)
-lotus eaters (the fake ice cream lady, tricking them and trying to give them food that would put them in harms way)
-the cyclops (the diver and his sheep are the gift shop sea creatures)
-poseidon (Dennis is Poseidon. Constantly trying to fuck with the quest.)
-circe and hermes (Mindy and the bag of winds she gives the two boys. Gives the boys mustaches as disguises to protect them (like circe with her nymphs) Must I say more? Mindy also acts as the seer considering how short the movie has to be)
-the underworld (the area of monsters they have to travel through, acting as an area of reflection and coming to terms with things)
-scylla (plankton, using his charm and mind control to trick people under their control to enact their evil plans)
-zeus (this could go two ways. Either Neptune or Dennis honestly, but heavily leaning Neptune. Uses lightning to smite them down, also makes them choose their punishment for what fate follows them)
-the journey back to Ithaca and slaying of the suitors (returning to bikini bottom to free all of them from their buckets and take back control of being the manager of the new krusty krab)
This doesn't make ANY sense in places lmao but it's too funny not to think about. There are probably ways it could be organized to make it make more sense and assigning different things to new people and places but I'm too tired lol.
I was just watching the movie and found a bunch of new connections since I've been obsessed as hell with Epic recently. Anywho, that's my thing. Let me know if y'all agree or have any better ideas please haha.
Mwah love you all.

Listening to TAZ: Graduation and I absolutely love these NPCs 😂 Gary is great but I think I just absolutely adore Rainier, and the exchange about her visiting her dad while the Thunderman group was doing Mission: Imp Hospital.
I love Rainier anyway, but the whole "Dad taught me necromancy and he's a Lich" thing just had me picturing a little kid having a daddy-daughter tea party with her Lich dad and some wildlife skeleton friends like her raccoon and squirrels, and then they have a lil magic lesson when one of the skeletons falls off a chair and gets broken, and I absolutely love that. She's super excited to visit her Lich dad and talks about him with so much joy, and a joyful necromancer with a happy family is an unexpected but beautiful little detail in the campaign

W A ✝ C H I N G
Controversial movie based off the book by Nikos Kazantzakis.
It enraged Christian zealots enough that they fire bombed a movie theater in France. Other theaters refused to show it. The church bitched and moaned. The old nutty nun from EWTN called it "the most blasphemous ridicule of the Eucharist that's ever been perpetrated in this world" and "a holocaust movie that has the power to destroy souls eternally." 😂😂
And Martin Scorsese head to have bodyguards for several years after.

SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States. The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science. SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research. The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network. Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor. Gary’s always loved science. He studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on his career in journalism and radio broadcasting. Gary’s radio career stretches back some 34 years including 26 at the ABC. He worked as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. He was part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and became one of its first on air presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary developed StarStuff which he wrote, produced and hosted, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth. The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually. However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage. Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently. StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode being broadcast in February 2016. Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times weekly (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.

May I ask how fics are being evaluated? Like in order to be included in the collection, what are they being "graded" on? Thank you for hosting the project I think it's great!!!
that's a great question! click here if you don't know what this ask is talking about. my answer is pretty lengthy, but I hope that you'll find something useful in its contents!
grammar is definitely going to be a big thing. certainly, grammar isn't everything. I've read many excellent works from non-native english speakers who occasionally struggle with grammar conventions, but still succeed in expressing ideas and emotions in an engaging way; however, the collection isn't being made solely with the intention of promoting fanfic writers - it's also to recommend quality works to readers! so if the story has noticeably poor grammar, then unfortunately, it probably won't end up in the collection.
sentence flow and structure is also going to be a big consideration. have you guys ever read a fanfic where it's written like, "Leo walked to the park. He had always loved going to the park. His mom would bring him to the park on Sundays. He was really excited to be going there again." there's nothing grammatically incorrect within a sentence like this, but it lacks rhythm and creates a dull reading experience. again, this is not the sole criteria being considered, but fanfics that excel in the nitty-gritty sentence/paragraph construction will definitely have a leg up on those that don't.
to help convey what I mean, I'll show you this famous piece of writing advice from gary provost:
character writing is definitely a big consideration. now, here's my thing: I actually have more disdain for people who operate with an attitude of, "I perfectly understand this character. my way of conceptualizing them is best. all of you are so wrong, stop writing them like that and start doing it like this," than I have disdain for people who gleefully enjoy their own configurations of the characters in their own way. I think it's really lame to tell people what to do with their own headcanons and interpretations, and that doing so makes fandom much less fun.
at the same time, we have to acknowledge how fanon (or canon) transforms characters into oversimplified versions of themselves. I think all of us have witnessed percy being written by others into some big dumb himbo guy (when he's actually very clever and solves problems with his brain all the time), but this stylization of his character does gets criticized a lot on tumblr. what about other characters, though? what about hazel being written as a soft, ultra-shy cinnamon roll, when she quite possibly has the most egregious pottymouth on the argo ii? what about her short temper and barely-held-back aggression towards people who offend her and her friends? or what about piper, so often portrayed as a flirty, fashionable party girl, when in canon, she hates attention, avoids it like the plague, goes out of her way to make herself "less" attractive, and never really had any friends growing up?
I am definitely not the end-all-be-all judge of "correct" portrayals of PJO characters - but when I say that character writing is going to be considered, I'm saying that I'm looking for nuanced portrayals of characters that don't reduce them to exaggerated representations of their "core" traits. I'm not really going to care if a person has small conflicts with canon in their writing (i.e., saying that frank has ADHD, when all he's got is lactose-intolerance), because the broader portrayal of who they are is what I'll be looking at.
I will also be looking for good plot progression. let me tell you guys the story of the worst fanfic I've ever read in my life: it's a slice-of-life modern day AU. two characters who don't know each other well had a one night stand, resulting in one of them getting pregnant. they decided to keep the baby, and the father decided to work hard, turn their life around, and become a better person for their upcoming child. while all of this was happening, they began to feel real affection for each other and started to fall in love. and then, after twenty-ish chapters of cute slow burn--you're not ready for this--the baby was born, and then the mother was assassinated. apparently, the father had an evil stalker all along, who was extremely jealous of the mother and wanted to be the baby's parent instead. the assassin was an OC. none of this was set up prior, just no hint whatsoever over the course of a 100k word low-stakes story. this was a normal world AU where assassins don't even belong in average, everyday life. the story ended a few chapters later, and the father went on to raise the child alone.
fanfiction is a medium where people usually don't have a firmly-structured plan for lengthy stories. a lot of the time, writers have a handful of story beats in their head to start with, and then they make up the rest as they go along. generally, I don't think this is a big deal - but sometimes, the lack of planning really shows, and it's of severe detriment to the overall story. the core issue of the above fanfic wasn't even the assassination itself (although it was tonally dissonant), it was the fact that it didn't make any sense for the story to escalate to that extreme level when nothing had been done to set it up first. you might think that the aforementioned fanfic is a rarity, but I'm actually very biased towards long, 80k+ word fanfictions. I read them a lot, and I see stuff like this more often than you'd think.
I really don't need anyone to reinvent the wheel with their story plots! a simple, predictable flower shop au is genuinely fine with me, because as long as it progresses in a sensible way, it can be a fun time! but if you're selling me a cutesy flower shop au and then, completely out of nowhere, a love interest gets assassinated by an evil stalker that's been obsessed with one of the characters for years, I will have NO choice but to launch a petition to have AO3 delete your account /j
lastly, I'd say that I'm looking for the emotions within the work. why do people go out of their way to read angst, even though it can be so depressing? it's because emotions are powerful, and so often, we crave stories that make us feel something. this applies to fluffy romance, angst, comedies, stories about friendship/platonic love, action/adventure, character studies, and so on. at the same, there's definitely a distinction to be made between properly emotional works and stories that """try too hard""" (I don't know how else to phrase this) to be emotional. for the most part, it's a setup and payoff thing!
all of this probably sounds like really harsh grading - to be clear, I don't think that fanfiction needs to be anything other than fiction created by fans. I know that everyone has to start somewhere, some people are just doing it for fun, and not everyone is confident in their writing skills - but they try, anyway, and that is always admirable. I swear I'm not some literary elitist - however, with this collection, I want to give acclaim to exceptional fanfic writers, as well as make it easier for readers who have trouble finding works that fit the above specifications.
I'm thinking that the collection will probably have a top 3 or top 5 of 2024 overall (not ranked, just a general categorization), and then everything else will be sorted by ships/lack thereof. I really appreciate your interest in the project, so thank you for asking!

🪐 hello! i am back from oppenheimer. prepare for spoilers.
every time he had an anxiety attack or envisioned the A-bomb,, i had one too. hhhh i wanted to clap my hands over my ears, shut my eyes, and run out of the theater screaming.
there was also the nudity?? like the writers were like, "yes. oppenheimer was a womanizer. but this is a historical movie. um. how about we put the "porn without plot" trope?" coulda showed it another way. the nudity scenes were so so awkward. i don't mind nudity in movies; don't get me wrongfjdjdj just . if it's awkwardly done,,, it's such a turn-off for me aaaa
plot-wise,,, it is so sad?? and kinda confusing?? i get he had a rough life with the whole deposition. but ?????? maybe i just see it that way bc i was expecting something like dunkirk or darkest hour. not . *waves hands towards oppenheimer* (imitation game was kinda the same deal; the fact it was moreso about the person rather than the history of how the enigma code was broken and the device used to crack it,,,,,,, bit of a letdown. my mistake for raising the bar for my hopes and expectations for both movies too high.)
lots of cool actors that appeared either briefly or not. uh gary oldman played harry truman (recognized him from darkest hour). florence pugh!! cillian murphy, ofc. OMG! RAMI MALEK AND ROBERT DOWNEY JR. had to do a double take when i realized he played strauss lmao matt damon, emily blunt, tony goldwyn, kenneth branagh, christopher denham, gregory jbara, jason clark, james d'arcy, jack quaid, dane dehaan!!!!! oh! and tim dekay from i think??? white collar? lmao i got whiplash seeing so many people from things like argo, white collar, blue bloods, dunkirk, scandal, hawkeye and black widow (florence pugh), peaky blinders, devil wears prada and a quiet place (emilyblunt), bourne movies and interstellar (matt damon), zero dark thirty. it was wild!!
LASTLY,,,,, contrary to all my criticism, a piece of me did enjoy oppenheimer. from a history buff's pov aka. mine,, it was hella interesting learning the history and science and politics surrounding the bomb making process. also emily blunt's performance was the cherry on top! holy shit! my favorite scene is where it is her character's turn to be interviewed and kitty keeps turning the prosecutor's questions right back at him. the way she took no shit! get me a woman like kitty oppenheimer!! also it was so so cool how they did the scenes for strauss in black and white but the scenes with oppenheimer in color. really liked that! music score was kinda?? good?? probs?? would only listen to one or two tracks tho.
anyway. would i go see oppenheimer again? not really. no. what would i rate it? hm........... 6?? out of 10 stars. i take two off for the confusing way they did the plot and two more off for the nudity. if you're not a history buff like me and will enjoy oppenheimer solely as a movie,,,, then maybe? you'll like it. if ur a history buff like me,,, probably?? not then? go give it a try, anyway, tho, if u can!

With the aid of his girlfriend, Phyllis Potter, and best friend, Loomis, Grimm enters a Manhattan bank dressed as a clown, creates a hostage situation and executes a flawless robbery. Bill Murray, Gena Davis and Randy Quaid were a great trio. Edit for new review: Still one of my personal favorite comedies, seen this one numerous times and still have a good time with this trio and the oddball things that happen to them on their journey to the airport. Murray, Davis and Quaid are great together as well as Jason Robards as the frustrated police chief. **4.25/5**

[ad_1] Goldenrod Firms continues to be on a spending spree in Dallas-Fort Price. The Nebraska-based agency purchased the 11-story Collins Crossing workplace constructing, at 1500 North Greenville Avenue, in Richardson, the Dallas Morning Information reported. Phrases of the deal weren't disclosed. The vendor, Franklin Avenue Properties, had owned it since 2003. Newark Group’s Gary Carr, Robert Hill and Chris Murphy represented Franklin Avenue within the transaction. In-built 1999, the property is 85 p.c leased, and its tenants embrace Dell, software program firm ARGO and chip agency Nexperia. The common workplace occupancy charge in Dallas-Fort Price is about 79 p.c, in keeping with a fourth quarter report by Cushman & Wakefield. John Zogg, Goldenrod’s Southwest regional president, known as the acquisition “top-of-the-line workplace offers I’ve seen,” citing the constructing’s sturdy tenant roster and fascinating location. “We're going to spend some cash on enhancements,” Zogg advised the outlet. “Most of our capital goes to go to beauty enhancements to the constructing.” The acquisition contains 3.5 acres of adjoining land zoned for potential house development, prompting Goldenrod to rent an architect to discover its potential makes use of. The agency additionally plans so as to add retail and open area to the workplace constructing. The Collins Crossing acquisition marks one of many first workplace constructing trades in North Texas this 12 months, the outlet mentioned. Workplace gross sales within the area have plunged in recent times amid the remote-work period, excessive rates of interest and cautious lenders making it powerful to acquire ample financing. Goldenrod, based by former NFL participant Zach Wiegert, stays bullish on DFW. Final 12 months, the agency purchased practically 90 properties close to Singleton Boulevard in West Dallas, amassing over 35 acres of vacant heaps and current buildings. Moreover, Goldenrod will quickly begin development on a $400 million mixed-use challenge in Fort Price’s Cultural District. —Quinn Donoghue Learn extra [ad_2] Supply hyperlink

Kitabın ismi de "To a Mouse" adlı bir şiirden alındı.Şiirde şunu diyor:

TT 240: Ahmad Jamal. "At the Pershing: But Not for Me." Argo LP-628
Going back to Ahmad Jamal, Ethan Iverson does a great runthrough of "At the Pershing: But Not for Me". He says a number of things I didn't get around to. The whole thing is worth reading, not too long, but a few highlights, starting right off the top:
Gershwin’s lyric starts:
They're writing songs of love, but not for me
In the first seconds at the Pershing, Ahmad Jamal plays:
They're writing songs of love, but not for [blank]
In that [blank], Israel Crosby jumps in with an esoteric bass line that is notably high in register. The history of the piano trio is rewritten at that moment.
About "No Greater Love":
The opening rhythm on the vamp is familiar, a clave-derived syncopation that must go all the way back to Mother Africa. However, this kind of opening move was not yet a standard gambit for a piano trio.
It was Ahmad Jamal who made it a standard gambit.
He starts the discussion of "Poinciana" thusly:
By 1958, many jazz artists were taking advantage of the long play LP by releasing longer tracks. However, on side A, all the tracks are short and could have fit on a 78 from a decade earlier.
Side B opens with one of biggest hits in instrumental music — and at seven and a half minutes, one of the longest hits in instrumental music.
Much of American music is the mash-up of African and European cultures. African means drums. In the case at hand that means Vernel Fournier.
The “Poinciana beat” has gone into the annals of drum literature, but Fournier always was quick to point out he basically condensed a New Orleans brass band beat into a drum set. The cymbal off-beat is played by the left hand, the low tom by the right, an orientation that might seem “wrong” at first, but this sticking simply emulates hands of a marching drummer with a bass drum strapped to their chest; in some formations a tiny cymbal is also mounted on top of the bass drum. The player beats the drum with the right and chimes the cymbal with the left.
and wraps that discussion with a part of the history of jazz after the record:
Ellington was already well along on his project of groovy diaspora mash-ups, but it is easy to keep drawing the thread from Jamal’s “Poinciana” to Ellington’s Far East Suite, Latin American Suite, and Afro-Eurasian Eclipse.
The jazz cats took everything on this LP, soup to nuts. But “Poinciana” was vastly influential on so much music just a step outside of serious improvised jazz. A whole world wouldn’t exist without “Poinciana”: Vince Guaraldi’s “Linus and Lucy.” Ramsey Lewis’s “Hang on Sloopy” or “The In Crowd,” Bob James, Joe Sample, Dave Grusin…
Keith Jarrett’s famous trio with Gary Peacock and Jack Dejohnette mostly played rough and tumble standards. But early on, they broke up the set list with a long gospel stroll through Billie Holiday’s “God Bless the Child,” and for many fans that gospel Holiday moment was a career highlight. “God Bless the Child” was the Standards Trio’s “Poinciana.”
It's a short piece, but you will almost certainly learn something.
