There were a ton of good reasons to stop in Hammerhead— familiar place, familiar space, familiar faces— but none better than Cindy Aurum. At least in Gladio’s humble estimation. As soon as they pulled in to the gas station, Gladio’s eyes had cut to the garage, where they’d wandered compulsorily, but not without intent. 

And there she was. The golden girl. Head buried in a car engine, working her spanner at some stubborn bolt, and looking unfortunately good doing it. Noctis had clapped him on the back the second they’d hopped out of the Regalia, Ignis offering him a knowing nod, before the three of them half bounded in the direction of the Pit Stop. 

“Every time I see you, you’re tinkering away and something or other,” he remarked, sauntering around the raised hood of the car to get a better look at her. The reveal was still something of a surprise, and Gladio was struck with how gorgeous this girl was, and not for the first or last time. 

“Can I help you out?” he asked, trying desperately not to sneak a peak down her open jacket, and failing miserably. “I could loosen that for you.”

His heels clicked smartly on the steel tiles that lead up to the laboratory, echoing stoutly within the stark hallways, sterile and bare. At least this wing of didn’t carry that noxious scent of formaldehyde. It was milder here. Lights were brighter here, didn’t seem to pulse with that sinister, metronomic cadency. Smelled milder, too. Kinda like garage grease and mechanical oil. Kinda like home, a little.  

He turned down the corridor to the enter the vast mechanic’s bay where he found Cindy tinkering at some small apparatus by her toolbox. Tseng pulled the clandestine, burlap-wrapped materia from under his arm and laid it gently upon the metal tool chest. 

“You wanna tell me what all this is about?” he asked sternly, even as he pulled a creamy lily from his lapel to lay atop it. “That’s for you, too.”

Ones intuition was always a powerful quality. Able to seek out the faults in another’s thoughts and statements. Many times has she been able to fool those into thinking she was a genuine, honest woman. This time, however, was unlike the rest. May it be she failed to appear convincing or simply because the mechanic before her could sense the fib, it didn’t matter.

“You and I are similar in that aspect. Though, it seems right now I am the liar.” Wringing her hands, eyes trailed down towards their shoes and kept focus; unable to look her in the eyes. A mere moment of silence reigned and the ever-present worry furrowed her brows.

“I had heard…Noctis was here. His lack of presence left me a bit taken back on how to approach further. I guess it was unnecessary to lie, but I never know who is listening in on me. Watching my every move. His safety is of utmost concern. If, by chance, the wrong person was here, I could’ve put him in more danger.”

She guessed her need to create a fabricated story in the most useless of times was one of her bad habits.
