Evan Peters’ Quiksilver is the Perfect Introduction to Mutants in the MCU

Spoiler Alert: This week’s episode of WandaVision, “On a Very Special Episode…”, brought back an unexpected character to the MCU, Pietro Maximoff, aka Quiksilver, albeit with a twist.

Fans will remember that Pietro (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) was first introduced in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron alongside his sister Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) as twins who had been test subjects in a Hydra facility in Sokovia. Pietro would later on sacrifice himself nobally to save Hawkeye and a Sokovian child during Ultron’s final assault. But this isn’t the only Pietro who exists on film.

Because of the complicated nature of both Wanda and Pietro’s origins in the comics, both Disney and Fox could use the characters as long certain aspects of their history were ignored. This meant that Disney couldn’t mention that Wanda and Pietro were mutants and Fox couldn’t mention the twins’ ties to the Avengers. This led to two versions of the character debuting within a year of each other - Taylor-Johnson in 2015 and Evan Peters in X-Men: Days of Future Past the summer before in 2014. Peters’ version of Pietro is most certainly a mutant and had a memorable scene-stealing moment involving security guards in a kitchen.

So when Wanda’s speedster brother comes knocking on her door at the end of Episode 5 of WandaVision, it would make sense to assume that we would be seeing Aaron Taylor-Johnson reprising his role but that isn’t the case. Instead we are treated to the sight of Peters back sporting grey hair in a shocking reveal. This has kicked the internet up into a frenzy with theories flying left and right about what this might mean for the MCU and it’s long-awaited and inevitable introduction of mutants. Many have wondered how Marvel would introduce this cavalcade of characters this late in the game but WandaVision might have given us a much simpler solution.

When her boys ask about resurrection following the death of their new puppy, Sparky, Wanda shoots them down and insists that it isn’t a good idea to bring people back from the dead. This is preceded by a conversation where her twins ask about their deceased uncle and Wanda, curiously, says that he is “lost” rather than dead. So if her real brother is dead and resurrecting him isn’t an option, then maybe Wanda has “borrowed” another version from out in the multiverse (Elizabeth Olsen is appearing as Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness afterall). This could open up the doors to Wanda bringing mutants to the MCU through these reality-altering shenanigans rather than Marvel having to come up with a convoluted explanation about mutants hiding in plain sight all this time or something along those lines.

But, of course, this could all be a giant red herring as well. There are still four more episodes of WandaVision to go so we’ll have to wait and see how this new Marvel mystery unfolds, but it does potentially point to exciting developments for X-Men fans.

<p>India batted first against Lanka. Mandhana got dismissed early again. Sharma and Raut then steadied things before Raut was dismissed against run of play. Ind were 38-2 by 11th over. Mithali and Sharma then had a 118 run stand. India reached 156-2 by 36th over. Thatws when lanka made their first comeback. They dismissed Sharma first and then Goswami and Mithali later to reduce Ind to 169-5 by 40th over. Ind just managed 232 by end of 50 overs. India looked good to reach 260 at one stage.Lanka were getting on well early as they reached 57-1 by 18th over. For Inida, spinners have been GOTO bowlers this series. They didnt disappoint. Poonam Yadav grabbed 2 quick wickets. Lanka were reduced to 70-3. Siriwardene and Sruangika had a 50 plus stand but they took lot of time. They had too many dot balls. That put pressure on Lankan batsman. These 2 had to ensure they take Lanka to the finish. India needed 1 wicket to put pressure. Goswami then dismissed dangerous Siriwardene . Lanka were reduced to 130-4. Lanka needed 103 of 66 by then. Surangika then tried hard but brilliant death bowling by Bisht and Sharma ensured India won by 16 runs. India have won 16 of last 17 matches now. This is their 4th win a ron in this tournament. They enxt face SA . Mithali has chance to grab record in that match. SHe needed 32 runs to become womens highest scorer. She has 5959 as of now. If she crosses 6k ODI runs, she would be first womens cricketer to reach that milestone.</p>

<p>India had to put their socks on against WI in final ODI. WI started well as they reached 76-1 by end of powerplay. But Umesh dismissed KA hope and Chase of consecutive deliverries. WI didnt recover post that. Though SD Hope and Holder tried hard, theu just managed 205. Shami shined with 4 wicket haul.Late order collapse happpened as expected. Pitch was not as tough as it was in 4th ODI. India lost Dhawan early again. But Kohli stamped his class once he was in. India never looked back. Kohli scored his 28th ODI century. He now has 18 ODI centuries while chasing surpassing Sachin's record of 17. What a Player!! </p>

<p>SA had a nightmarish time in ENgland so far losing ODI, T20 and champions trophy. They had to fight hard in test. WIthout Steyn, ABD and Faf, they were not the same team. Philander reduced SA to 17-2. Morkel and Philander had brilliant spell later on. Root was holding on but England lost Ballance and Bairstow. England were 76-4. Stokes joined Root. Both stamped their authority. Post lunch, SA bowled poorly. England stars made them pay. SA even dropped catches. Root scored his 12th century. It was a masterclass. He had fortune as he was dropped twice but he made most of it. Stokes was dismissed for 56. But Ali gave Root good company. Root was stumped of a noball which summed up SA's day. Root made a brilliant 190. Of his 12 centuries, 7 were 150+ which showed his class. Ali made 81. SA openers have struggled for quite some time now. Broad dismissed Kuhn early on. But Elgar and Amla steadied ship for SA> But Ali turned the match on its head. He dismissed both to reduce SA to 98-3 from 82-1. Broad dismissed Duminy soon after. Bavuma and De Bruyn had a 99 run stand to bring SA back. But Anderson ensured ENgland won day 2 as he dismissed De Bruyn. Bacuma and De Kock need to bat for long on day 3 else it could be a tough last 2 days for them to save the match.</p>

<p>Nadal beat Young with ease to recah 3rd round. He faced gen x player Khachanov. He thrashed him 6-1 in first set. 2nd set was close but he still won 6-4. Khachanov had lots of chances in 3rd set. He had set point in 12th game as well. But Nadal ensured he wins in tie breaker. He has now won 28 consecutive sets in slams. He would meet big serving Mueller in 4th round. Murray reached 3rd round with ease. But he faced Fognini in 3rd round. Italian player had beaten him 2 months back n clay. Murray won the match in 4 sets. Fognini was leading 5-2 in 4th set . He had 5 set points in 8th, 9th and 10th game but couldnt close. Murray won 5 games in a row to reach 4th round where he would meet Pairre.Cilic beat Johnson in straight sets. Azarenka, Konta, Venus Williams,Mueller, Halep, Svitolina and French open champ Ostapenko reached 4th round. SHock of the day was Nishikori losing in 4 sets to Bautista. Bautista's all round game was too good for Nishikori. Monfils, Federer, Djokovic and Kerber all won 2nd round in straight sets. Pliskova who was favorite to win this year was shocked in 3 sets after elading by set.Thiem won in 4 sets. Dimitrov also won in straight sets. Raonic had a tough encounter against Youzhny. He lost first set  and was down by 2 set points.. But from 4-6 down in tie breaker, he came back to win 9-7. From then on , he marched on to win in 4 sets. Djokovic was supposed to meet Del Potro in 3rd round but Argentine lost in straight sets to Gulbis. Wozniacki and Kuznetsova won in straight sets to reach 3rd round.   </p>
