Mér fannst skemmtilegt að fá að sýna í Vínarborg; ég kom þangað sem ung listaspíra og fannst áhugavert að sjá safn Hundertwasser sem hafði mikil áhrif á mig þegar hann sýnsi hér á…

Whilst at uni and at TAFE art schools I had the same painting lecturer during my last semesters at each school, seemed quite fitting, almost like my creative education had come full circle. And although I was almost convinced that she hated me on a personal level she taught me some valuable lessons; not so much about painting technique or style as she said at that stage I'd already developed my own visual language. She taught me that you have live with your work, hang it in your bedroom, in the kitchen, leave it leaning against the bath tub. Hang it somewhere the light will hit it differently at different times if the day. Hold it up to the sun, keep it in the shadows. It's one thing to knock out paintings daily, ready to go, ready to hang and show and sell. It's another thing to live with them, to let them marinade in your subconscious, stew around, create new worries, questions and self doubt (all sound really negative but can be excellent instigators of new creativity). I started hanging these works in my room because I'd exhausted the space in my studio/garage as well as the storage space at my uncle's. They live with me, they're my roomies, the haunt me, they cheer me up, they make me question them and other work as well as questioning myself. Dr Magnus Gestsson requested a piece from me for his portable Gallerí Gestur / Gallery Guest. It was to be shown in England and Iceland. The piece is composed of a “stage”, a “hero”, two mini torches, a set of burst birthday balloons to be used as colour filters and an instruction sheet. Slipping, sloped, slowly (slowing down). Colours may change but the contours, they rest eventually. It’s urgent and unclear. If it’s holding you, what’s holding me? The answer doesn’t seem as important as the time it takes to respond. The shape of the space between us is an intervention onto the vantage points with and within the space of Gallerí Bokboden. Artist bio: Juliane (b. 1991, Manila) is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in Reykjavík, Iceland. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, the USA, Greece, Mexico and Iceland. The shape of the space between us is her first exhibition in Norway. She graduated with a BA in Studio Art from the University of Guelph, Canada in 2013 and is currently in her second year of the MA in Fine Arts programme at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. www.julianeforonda.com Opening hours: Friday - 19:00 - 21:00 Saturday - 12:00 - 17:00

Eigendur Mat og drykk, Ívar Þórðarson og Elma Backman

Veitingastaðurinn Matur og Drykkur býður til Pop Up viðburðar þann 24. september næstkomandi í tilefni af stærstu bæjarhátíð Barcelona, La Mercé.

Hátíðin er stærsta menningarhátíð Barcelonaborgar og er haldin einu sinni á ári. Þetta árið hefur Reykjavík verið valin vinaborg Barcelona á hátiðinni.

Þarna munu kokkarnir frá Mat og Drykk reiða fram það besta úr íslensku hráefni og matarhefðum og kynna fyrir boðsgestum. Matur og Drykkur er einn af þeim veitingastöðum sem hefur verið leiðandi afl í norrænni matargerð á Íslandi og hafa notað séreinkenni íslensks hráefnis í sinni matargerð með því að gæða gamla rétti nýju lífi.

Annar tilgangur með þessum viðburði er að tengja saman íslenska og spænska listamenn og fagna því að Reykjavíkurborg er með stórt hlutverk á La Mercé í tónleikahaldi, listsköpun og menningu.

Dj BenSol mun sjá um að þeyta skífum.

Öllum íslensku listamönnunum, Höfuðborgarstofu og Íslandsstofu verður boðið á þennan viðburð ásamt spænskum listamönnum og blaðamönnum.  Viðburðurinn verður haldinn í Wer-Haus sem er gallerí og veitingastaður á besta stað í Barcelona.

Matur og Drykkur er nefndur eftir tímamótabók Helgu Sigurðar. Á Mat og Drykk eru sögulegar uppskriftir lagaðar að nútímanum og bornar fram, bæði til að hefja íslenska matarhefð til vegs og virðingar og kveikja á henni áhuga. Matur og Drykkur hefur meðal annars verið nefndur einn af bestu veitingastöðum landsins af Michelin Guide og norræna veitingahúsaritinu White Guide og útnefndur einn af veitingastöðum ársins af Nordic Prize.

World Art Day

Gallerí-hjarta. Þegar ég var að byrja að vinna sem myndlistarmaður voru ekki komin gallerí í Reykjavík eins og núna tíðkast; ég sýndi fyrst í galleríum sem rekin voru af listamönnum sum þessi gallerí voru jafnvel ekki í húsnæði heldur í tösku eða kassa; mig langaði til að taka þátt í þessum sið en lángaði jafnframt að vera sá með minsta og kanski óhátíðlegasta galleríð, ég fann lítið rautt málm…
