MEET THE PERFORMING POETS AT #GABLIPFEST . Uphile Chisala is a Malawian storyteller. She is the author of two collections of poetry and prose, Soft Magic (2015) and Nectar (2017). Born and raised in Zomba, Malawi, her hope is to tell stories from the margins. Themes she explores include the self, joy, blackness, gender, the diaspora, spirituality, love and survival. She has been featured in OkayAfrica, Essence Magazine and Huffington Post. MEET THE PERFORMING POETS AT #GABLIPFEST . Born and based in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal, Tanya Evanson is an Antiguan-Canadian poet, performer, producer, Arts Educator and Director of The Banff Centre Spoken Word program and ANU live art. . Over a 20-year career in Spoken Word, she has performed at festivals in Canada, US, Mexico, Antigua, UK, Ukraine, Turkey, South Africa, Australia and Indonesia; published six artist books; recorded four studio albums; and released two videopoems including the award-winning Almost Forgot My Bones. In 2013, she was Poet of Honour at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word and received the Golden Beret Award for her contribution to the genre. . Bothism (2017 Ekstasis Editions) is her first published poetry collection accompanied by the Bothism live videopoem. Her latest collection Nouveau Griot (2018 Frontenac House), gathers the texts from her four studio albums. She has published recently in Arc Poetry, WSQ-Feminist Press, Making Room: Forty Years of Room Magazine (Caitlin Press) and Resist Much/Obey Little (Dispatches Editions). MEET THE PERFORMING POETS AT #GABLIPFEST . Busisiswe Mahlangu is a poet, performer and TEDx Speaker born in 1996 in Mamelodi, Pretoria. She explains her work as a space of healing and growth for herself. Her poetry is mostly described as hard-hitting and raw, she uses her work to hold space for conversations around poverty, mental health, education, healing, domestic violence and being and staying alive. . Busisiwe is the founder of Lwazilubanzi, a community project that aims to use literature as a tool of learning, resistance and healing; working with public schools around Pretoria. Her work was longlisted for the Sol Plaatje European Poetry Award in 2017 and 2018.
