Argentina against Uruguay, the last 5 Qualifiers

Argentina against Uruguay has produced some memorable matches as of late, especially in the World Cup Qualifiers.

The Albiceleste have had the upper hand in the last couple of World Cup Qualifying matches between these two rivals. If we go back to the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers (which Albiceleste fans would like to try and forget), Argentina have lost only one match against the Charruas.

Argentina against Uruguay

With the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers under way, the first match between these two teams came in October of 2008. The match ended in a 2-1 win for the home team with Lionel MESSI and Sergio AGUERO the two goalscorers for the sky blue and white (although in this match they were wearing the dark blue shirt). The second match was a dramatic 0-1 win for Argentina, with Mario BOLATTI scoring to secure World Cup Qualification for Diego MARADONA’s men.

Having picked up two wins out of two against Uruguay in the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers, it was onto the 2014 Qualifiers. A big 3-0 win in Argentina with Lionel MESSI putting on a fantastic performance and scoring a memorable free kick goal secured the three points for his nation. It was now three wins out of three against the Uruguayans. The team’s only loss recently in the World Cup Qualifiers against Uruguay came when qualification for 2014 was already sealed and coach Alejandro SABELLA played a second string line-up against a Uruguay team which had to win. The result was a 3-2 loss for Argentina, captain Maxi RODRIGUEZ scoring both goals. That match also marked Mauro ICARDI’s first and only cap for the Argentina National Team.

In the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers, the first match was in Argentina with Lionel MESSI once more saving his team and scoring against Uruguay in their 1-0 win. Paulo DYBALA received two yellow cards as he was sent off for Argentina. Here are the line-ups, highlights and goals from those matches:

Buenos Aires.- Emiliano Spataro se llevó una nueva edición de los 200 kilómetros de Buenos Aires, segundo fue Juan Ángel Rosso y completó el podio Bernardo Llaver

En el día de hoy se disputó una nueva edición de los 200 Kilómetros de Buenos Aires y la victoria quedó en manos del binomio de Emiliano Spataro- Christian Ledesma (Renault Fluence), segundo fue Juan Ángel Rosso- Sebastián Peluso (Ford Focus), y completó el podio Bernardo Llaver- Santiago Urrutia (Chevrolet Cruze). Ledesma no había arrancado del todo bien este fin semana, ya que el viernes sufrió un despiste, pero el día sábado todo el equipo Renault Fluence hizo un gran trabajo y hoy se llevó un gran triunfo.

La carrera se retrasó debido al factor climático, ya que la lluvia fue la gran protagonista, debido a que en gran parte del circuito había agua acumulada, ya que la lluvia cayó durante gran parte de la madrugada, y que se extendió durante gran parte de la carrera.

Facundo Ardusso- Ricardo “Caito” Risatti (Renault Fliuence) picaron en punta, siendo la dupla más firme a llevarse la victoria, mientras que en el pelotón de atrás sucedían cosas, ya que Norberto Fontana- compañero de Gabriel Ponce de León (Toyota Corolla) se despistó y debió ingresar el Auto de Seguridad, sin embargo adelante el líder continuaba siendo Risatti y Mariano Altuna compañero de dupla de Mariano Werner (Peugeot 408) no lo pudo superar, siendo segundo.

Mientras que del tercer lugar para atrás las posiciones variaban continuamente, Julián Santero en dupla con Leonel Pernía (Renault Fluence), quién superó a Altuna para ser el nuevo escolta de Risatti. El Peugeot 408 se movió cuando pisó un charco de agua, y eso causó que el piloto de Lobería se retrase en el clasificador y es por eso que decidió ingresar a la zona de boxes para chequear si tenía algún neumático pinchado.

En el giro 14 la zona de boxes se habilitó para que los pilotos ingresen y hagan cambio de pilotos, es por eso que Franco Girolami en dupla con Facundo Chapur (Peugeot 408) se convirtió en el nuevo puntero de la carrera, sin embargo debía realizar la parada en boxes para el respectivo cambio, la lluvia nuevamente reapareció y los problemas también.

Leonel Pernía perdió con Juan Ángel Rosso, quién escaló desde el puesto 25° y por un momento fue el puntero de la carrera, sin embargo el Renault Fluence de Spataro fue superior y lo superó faltando unas pocas vueltas, sin embargo el Ford aguantó y conservó el segundo lugar.

Spataro se llevó una victoria impresionante junto a Christian Ledesma, segundo fue Juan Ángel Rosso- Sebastián Peluso y completó el podio Bernardo Llaver- Santiago Urrutia.
