Hell's Paradise
Tumblr media
I just finished watching Hell's Paradise (the 13 episodes of season 1, bcs I heard that there will be season 2 which I'm really excited about) today. Now, first and foremost i want to express how much I love this series and the characters in it.
I think this series deserves a 10 out of 10 I don't care what other people think or say. I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
The setting, the island, the worldbuilding, the characters, and just everything u know? Like the weird mixture between fantasy and reality. I just love that so much. Another thing that absolutely makes me like it is because there is somehow an element of artificiality(?) in that world. It's kinda like uncanny valley. Even before we meet all the weird ass creatures and monsters and whatnot, the island itself, despite being so beautiful, feels kind of fake. It doesn't have that beauty that nature has. It's like so full of what makes nature beautiful, but it's kinda like when you throw and mesh all of them together that it just feels fake, and also kinda eerie (it feels like it's begging you to see it as a haven you know?) And I love that.
I also like the philosophy? ideology? idk what to call it, but the one of the main idea in this series about balance. About how it is as important to be weak as it is to be strong. How you can't only just be strong, but also have to embrace your weakness and how both of them are a part of you as a whole. I also like the idea that embracing your weakness is a strength in itself.
And last but definitely not least, I love the characters pleaaaseeeeeeeee..... I love Sagiri, I love Gabimaru, I love Choubei n his brother, Shion, Fuchi, Yuzuriha, Yui, all of themmmmmmmm!!! But especially Gabimaru. He is just so precious I can't. Him and his wife both are just adorable. But I also absolutely adores Choubei. He's kinda a prick at first, but I'm just weak for people that cares so deeply about someone else and would do anything for them you know.... I think that he is actually a really warm and soft person and I'm kinda sad because I don't think he is the type of character that is going to survive at the end 😔😔😔😔
Anyways, this is a really good series, amazing story, amazing animation, I absolutely recommend to give this a watch!!

not to be gushy and sappy on main but hell's paradise is so incredibly special to me for being a narrative about love and friendship and compassion. every single character loves so much and instead of being punished by the narrative for it in the name of being a 'dark' manga it saves almost every character's life. and for the characters it doesn't save, their deaths are so thoughtful and infinitely more meaningful than any other shonen dark manga which likes to kill off characters for shock value. every character's character arc is spurred by love because of the way it irrevocably changes them and how their motivations are shaped around it and their relationships with one another. the characters are only brought closer by the fact that the original stratification of criminals vs. punishers is meant to emphasize the dichotomy of good vs bad but they're all brought together by the universality of what it means to love someone else. the goodness and sacrifice and doubt it brings out in you. the manga humanizes those who have been condemned by society (those who don't follow the arbitrary rules of society) and points out the social conditions and hierarchies that exist to perpetuate cycles of abuse and isolate individuals to be cast out by society and says that nobody is born that way. nobody is born evil (which directly opposes shugen's philosophy and rigid standards of good and evil) in the end it's about the inherent goodness of human nature and why it'll always win. im so sick. im going to cry.

Hi......If you don't mind, can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......Thanks....
Hmmm 🤔 my favs are always changing but at the moment.
1. Gokurakugai: Alma is a precious cinnamon roll who loves his mentor Miss Tao like a sister. I really love their platonic relationship and the fact that Alma is incredibly emotionally balanced. Like he's not this typical macho guy. Probably because he's surrounded by strong female role models. It's really refreshing for Shonen and I really hope it gets an anime series because I think it has the potential to be as big as JJK and Demon Slayer.
2. Jujutsu Kaisen: I love Yuuji as a ML and I'm usually a side character gal. So it's great to actually like the lead character. I've noticed in this current generation of Manga and Anime that our Male Leads are becoming much more well rounded and likeable. I love Yuuji's strength and his resilience, he definitely deserves all the love and hugs. I also of course love Gojo and I kind of hope Mappa deviates from the manga in regards to his fate because man that hurt.
3. Demon Slayer: I read the manga start to finish and loved every minute of it. The anime series is just as good. I love all of the characters in this in their own rights. From the protagonist to the villains for me at least the author got everything right. It's Shonen at its best. To be able to make your audience love Rengoku in such a short time is an amazing feat. To care so much that you feel as devastated as Tanjiro to me the Mugen train arc is a masterclass in story telling. It's sad that the series will be coming to an end soon but I think for me this will always be in my top 5.
4. Ghost in the Shell: This is the movie that started my love of anime/manga. It's a cinematic masterpiece and everyone should watch it at least once. It was well ahead of its time and it's not surprising that it inspired the Matrix.
5. Hells Paradise: I love the manga and the anime. Gabimaru is so relatable to me, I think we share the same sarcastic and apathetic nature lol. I love it as well because it gave us one of the best disabled characters in current manga generation. Shion is an epic character for the disabled community, being partially blind myself it's nice to be represented you know? And he's not full of loathing or self pity, he embraces his blindness and uses it to his advantage. He's funny, kind, strong and handsome. He never questions Sagiri's competence, he doesn't try to send her of to the kitchen like his colleagues. He recognises her talent and encourages her to achieve her goals. In short Shion needs to be protected at all costs.
6. Chainsaw Man: when I first saw this pop up on Shonen Jump I didn't have high hopes. It seemed like a crack series but this is exactly why you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. I love this series even though it hurts me 😭. Denji is a typical hormonal teen, power is a ball of chaos and Aki is just trying to keep everything together. Plus Angel 😇 is one of my fav characters of all time maybe because he reminds me of my daughter lol.
7. Elfen Lied: this is another classic anime the violence is on par with AOT but once you get past that you have this heart wrenching story. Lucy is a monster created by her environment and the abuse she suffered. This is also one of the most beautifully animated series of all time. The art is phenomenal.
8. Solo Leveling: I fell in love with the Manwha and was so excited when it got picked up for a series. I'm loving the anime so far, though I'm two episodes behind. Due to my sight loss I have to wait for the English dub but dubs have gotten way better than when I first started watching anime in the early 2000's. I love Jinwoo's tenacity and the fact that he just cuts through the villains. He never really worries about whether that makes him a bad person. Sometimes you just want to see bad people get what's coming to them. Plus this has some of the most epic fight scenes, I can't wait to see them animated.
9. Tokyo Ghoul: I spent most of Tokyo Ghoul crying ugly tears 😭. Ken Keneki has one of the most heartbreaking storylines in all of anime. It's just painful to read/watch Gege definitely took a leaf out of the Tokyo ghoul book when writing JJK. Yet still I couldn't put it down, I'm a sucker for punishment. It's a great mix of characters as well, I love that we see goth culture mixed in there as well. You do get those Crow vibes the way it's so gothic in inspiration and the art work is stunning. I think the only illustrator that tops it is Yuta Sano.
10. Attack on Titan: AOT has been deemed controversial because of it's fascist themes. However I think it's only problematic if you think Eren is the hero in this story. I actually really can't stand Eren, it's pretty obvious that he's been radicalised by his experiences early on. The foreshadowing is strong with him you know he's not going to turn out well from the start. The real protagonists for me are Armin, Levi and Hange. Like these three are definitely trying to save their comrades and people. Whereas Mikasa is constantly having to save Eren and Eren jumps to mass genocide pretty quick. Levi almost feels like he's representing the audience with his snarky commentary. I also love Levi and Hanges platonic friendship. They really get each other and their banter is a joy to watch especially in the first season.

I am still really emotional about how the last thing we see of Gabimaru at the end of the manga is him just getting to sleep soundly. After everything he went through and everything he did just for a chance at a normal life with his wife, now he can just rest peacefully.
I think about it alot. He finally got that sweet cottage-core life he and Yui deserve and i have never rooted more for a heterosexual couple in my life.

Eris flexing best bud privilege🤝 virtue being obnoxious.

Haikyuu - Kazuma Numai
He looks witty and like he could roll with your punches. Goes so soft for you. Knows when to leave you be. Will absolutely let you clean him up.

Genshin - Yelan

Hear me out, you asked who you could pull, right? i think Icy has too big an ego to get pulled by anyone and stormy feels uninterested in people imo. Darcy tho. <smirk emoji>
Obey Me - Barbatos
his shit eating grin reminded of you when you're feeling particularly confident and savage and I like the idea of yall's banter.
Hell's Paradise - Gabimaru

I would LOVE for both CSM and Hell’s Paradise to be animated and released at the same time but I don’t think there’s a studio that’s picked up HP yet /: While I know Mappa is producing CSM which I’m so excited for because they’re doing such an amazing job with JJK!
I’m sure if he could he would look back respectfully 👀 (I’m sorry I had to haha)
!! I haven’t read KNY yet (only watched what’s released of the anime so far) but I have seen a bit of Sanemi and uhh I’ve been lookin a bit too disrespectfully 🙂 What can I say? I love my animated men with angy/unhinged eyes 🤲🏼🤲🏼
-🗑❤️
They haven’t announced a. studio yet?? Booooooooo! Well, whoever ends up producing HP better give it all the attention and budget it deserves. I have so much faith in MAPPA for CSM that they better not let me down. They’ve been such a good job with not just JJK but with weirder things like Dorohedoro that I have some well-placed confidence that they can get the madness and weirdness of CSM just right. (Fingers crossed 😣)
And let me just say, I am super worried about what’s gonna happen to Shion because they’re just killing off everyone in this manga and if something happens to him, Gabimaru, Sagiri, or Nurugai then I really will burn everything down. It’s bad enough that they already took down Senta 😑
Come check up on me in another couple of days when I’ll have had more time to do some reading and crying, anon!

you know mappa doing jigokuraku?? what the hell is going on ☹ the trailer looks good but, csm jjk and this now? they already have a lot of projects so, i'm really worried about the staff :/ this feels like theyre going to end up like madhouse, too many big projects in such a short span of time. im really surprised though since it was kind of a joke that they were going to be doing jigokuraku because you know, dark trio stuff and it's actually true lol . anyways dorohedoro season 2 never coming
i know :( i'm terrified of mappa overworking its artists which is more likely than not tbh and i really wish we could have some confirmation that the animators are taking enough breaks and everything but the unfortunate reality is that these animators are overworked to the bone 😭 i watched a documentary on the japanese animation industry and it's absolutely brutal
that being said, the jigokuraku trailer was everything i wanted to see, especially sagiri and gabimaru!! the animation is gorgeous and i really really high expectations for it so i really hope it gets the adaption it deserves
we're never getting dorohedoro season 2 LOLLL

!!! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it! Senta that sweet little Tanuki I cried too 😭😭 I seriously love everyone in that manga, they’re all amazing characters and they all deserve happiness, especially Gabimaru. I believe in Gabimaru supremacy through and through 💕💕 I’m super excited to see it animated and I really hope it gains more popularity after, like Jujutsu Kaisen did because it’s such a great story and deserves all the attention 🧎🏻‍♀️🤲🏼
Soooo would you say Shion is your fave at the moment then? 👀
We stan Gabimaru in this house 😭😭 He is absolutely perfect and if he doesn’t get his happy ending with his wife then I will burn everything down! 😡 I hope the anime gets more people into it bc it’s so amazing and heartbreaking. I also feel like since we’re getting the chainsaw man anime, hopefully they come out at the same time bc I feel like csm fans would like hell’s paradise too and could help it get more popular.
Annnndddd yes. My eyes are respectfully looking at Shion 👀
Also! I meant to tell you that Chobe totally gives me Sanemi from kny vibes so he also has caught my eye 👀
