I had Lucuma Ice Cream this evening. It’s something I’ve never had and was available when I stopped by Gabby's Peruvian Restaurant & Catering this evening. It had a drier texture than your typical ice cream but was still smooth with a very butterscotch-like flavor. I LOVE trying new things and this definitely fit the bill. Day 5: A Lazy Day of Prep Before The Hike

Today was a pretty lazy day because I knew I had to conserve my energy for the start of tomorrow’s Inca Trail hike. So I woke up late and had breakfast of fried rice with hot dogs, bread, and fruit. I met two Germans who had recently met each other in Bolivia and their names were Andreas and Gabby (Gabriella). I had a fun time talking to them about their adventures thus far, about Bolivia, etc.

After a long breakfast with hanging out, I went to plan my Bolivia trip, specifically the Uyuni aspect of the trip. I messed up before coming on this trip because I didn’t do any research about Uyuni and how the trip works and where it ends, so I could’ve saved some time and bought different tickets had I known that. Oh well, too late. So, I looked around a while for different tour companies that had good reviews. And I also took some time to figure out how to best travel to and from Uyuni so that I would have the ability to get back to La Paz, enjoy some time there, and then fly out to Chile. I eventually narrowed down the tour companies and bought my round trip La Paz - Uyuni plane tickets. One thing figured out, with the tour company left to be figured out, either when I get back to Cusco or once I’m in La Paz.

The long morning of work eventually became the early afternoon. Because I was hungry, I went out to find some food and went to a Peruvian sandwich shop called Chola Soy that I had found online. And there, I asked for the most popular sandwich and ordered a De Lomo Saltado sandwich with beef, bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, french fries, and sauces on a baked roll of some sort. It was really good and I really enjoyed it. Afterward, I thanked the workers (Hairo and Saira?), took their picture, and headed up to the San Blas neighborhood to check things out before going to the Llama Path office for my pre-trip orientation.

I strolled around San Blas for a bit and while there, strolled towards some music being played in a plaza nearby. It was good and fun! I stayed for a bit before continuing to stroll and find photos to take. When it was time, I started my trip back down and headed to Llama Path for my tour orientation. We had the orientation and I left feeling pretty excited for the next few days! It seemed like I was going to have a great group with great guides and I was super psyched about that!

With the orientation over, I walked around town for a bit looking for a photo spot for the Cusco blue hour but failed miserably in my attempt to find something. So I gave up, chilled at the main square and people-watched for a bit before coming back to the hostel to get some stuff done. The night ended pretty early after getting dinner with Gina and Meera at an Indian curry place called Korma Sutra in San Blas. The curry was so-so but definitely better than I expected. Then, I was back to pack my bag and finish things up before sleeping. Because tomorrow, I’m off for a really really early trip. 4:30am to be exact. x___x

5 Things I Learned Today:

1. There are many old women dressed up in traditional wear in Cusco. With them on leashes are llamas. These women are very aggressive when it comes to tourists. They want your money and will find you to get your money if they see you try to sneak a photo. Oh, and supposedly, they aren’t supposed to have those llamas in town…

2. School kids are very nicely dressed in uniforms here in Cusco.

3. The service in restaurants has been so-so so far. We have to really wave them down for the check or they won’t bring it.

4. Selfie Sticks are still the go-to in Peru.

5. Coke and water cost the same (or about the same) in restaurants, so why not be unhealthy and treat myself to soda?

  Gabby’s Peruvian Restaurant has finally made the move to 1002 S. Seneca allowing them to more than double their restaurant. Their new location inside the old Breakfast Club opened up last week and we stopped by to check out the new digs.
