Season 2, Episode 9 | The Way We Were (1973) & The Virgin Suicides (1999)
Chick Flicks with Gabby & Amy brings you A Very Special Super '70s Double Feature of The Way We Were and The Virgin Suicides. While seemingly different, the films share an elegiac tone, a dreamy nostalgia, and origins as 1970s artifacts (plus appearances by James Woods, randomly). Come along as we delve into the idiosyncrasies and profundities of these two period pieces.
CONTENT WARNING: This episode discusses suicide. If you are in crisis, please call or text 988 to reach the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

(Swing and a) Missed
Don’t know how I missed this one. Randy Hundley certainly didn’t miss too many pitches during his career (only 54 passed balls in over 8,400 innings). This past July, he released Ironman with John St. Augustine. Here’s the blurb from lulu.com, where the book is available (surprisingly it’s not on Amazon): Hailed by Leo Durocher as “The most significant Chicago Cubs catcher since Gabby Hartnett”…

Gabriel Hartnett
Been plugging away at BIOMASSE. Character sheets are for my own reference, but I thought it'd be fun to share.
Tumblr media
I think there's something really funny about the protagonist being such a Noir Guy that the lighting follows him around and weirds out the people around him. Plain-text character bio under the cut.
GABRIEL 'GABBY' HARTNETT is a man in his mid-forties, a killer for hire, and, like every resident of SYVER, is unable to die. Unlike them, he never fully dissipates into BIOMASSE when gravely injured. Four years of injuries that should have killed him a thousand times over have made his body increasingly strange and abstract. He could push things back to the way they were, but why bother? It'll just get ruined again. Gabby keeps his eating habits to the people he considers the worst of the worst. Consuming their BIOMASSE imparts some of their memories and kills them forever, preventing them from crawling out of the PRIMORDIAL WET under the city. As the only person in the world who can commit murder, he's surprised to pick up the phone to find somebody cutting into his business. His profession makes him well-equipped to catch the culprit. But his body is beginning to buckle under the weight of his job, a fact that hasn't gone unnoticed in the criminal underworld…

Hello people!!! Here is the second part of the Two-fer Thursday MLB Immaculate Grid number 556 for Wednesday October 9, 2024.
This grid is represented well by members of the 1985 Blue Jays team who made the playoffs for the first time franchise history. Jimmy Key, Jesse Barfield and George Bell were very important to the success to the Blue Jays team who lost to the eventual World Series Champion Kansas City Royals in Game 7 of the ALCS.
Two former Yankees that added some championship experience to the 1984 San Diego Padres are also represented on the grid. Third baseman Graig Nettles was traded to the Padres and closer Goose Gossage signed as a free agent, joining former Dodger Steve Garvey on a team that would go 92-70 for their first franchise playoff appearance.
Phil Rizzuto is always a surprise pick for Yankees MVP. The Scooter won the AL MVP for the 1950 season.
Willie "Pops" Stargell won his only NL MVP leading the "We Are Family" Pittsburgh Pirates to their last World Series win.
Gabby Hartnett won the 1935 NL MVP. He was the first NL catcher to win the MVP award and second catcher to win MVP after Mickey Cochrane won the AL MVP in 1934.
Well that's all for now. On to the next grid, number 557.
