Okay after Stardust (Neil Gaiman) I read Everything I Know About Love (Dolly Alderton), then Blood Meridian (Cormac McCarthy), and then Pride and Prejudice (!! First Jane Austen) , and now I’m currently reading Outlander by Diana Gabadon and fucking LOVING IT!

I need to track better. I think I’m trying to re-up all the classics ya know. Need to catch up on 200 years of literature! I was home last week and brought back copies of Wuthering Heights (shoutout sister for HS required reading 10 years ago) and East Of Eden (Steinbeck) - which I read 6 or 7 years ago in my HS History class. I remember really liking it (for required reading of course so not like thru the roof) but I’m excited to revisit it now that I actually give a shit. If you know what I mean. Seriously going to try to rate these when I get a chance work has been busy.

Fictional Crush Series No.7

Have we made it to the 90′s yet?  We have!

What���s this you say?  The Outlander series didn’t premier until 2014?  Well!  There just happens to be an antiquated technology called books in with this particular tale was first created.

Let me set the scene.  It’s 1993.  I’m at the library with my dad.  I feel like I’ve read the entire YA section, and I’ve run out of David Eddings and Anne McCaffery books to read.  I complain to my dad that I have sucked this library dry.  He reaches into the Returned Today Shelf of unsorted books and grabs one at random.  “Here, you haven’t read this yet.”  It was this, a first edition copy of Outlander:

Perhaps he though it was an historical novel set in the highlands.  It kind of is...?  

To prove to him that plucking ugly books at random off the shelf was no was to pick a quality read, I read it.   First came intrigue, then delight, then fascination and compulsion, then welling tides of love and lust, and the feels! So many feels!

For those very few who are still unfamiliar with the Outlander universe, it’s a genre-bending book and series, especially the first three books, combining historical fiction, time travel, romance, blood, gore, sexual violence, medical ickiness, touches of mythical fantasy and magic, mystery, and a big slabbing helping of hot sexy sex.

Oh, and this hunk of red-blooded, red-haired Scot!

That means “I am ready” for everyone who doesn’t read French or hasn’t read the book.  I was 15.  I was ready.  My parents may have disagreed if they had known what was behind that twee bookcover.

James Alexander Malcolm McKenzie Fraser, Jamie to some, and JAMMF to the old school fandom.  Oh course, now we have Sam Heughan to envision Jamie as, but back in the day we used a read words off a page and picture Jamie et al in our minds.   I don’t think they did a bad job of casting Jamie.  Sam is of course, too short, and his hair is not red enough, but I give it a pass.

What makes Jamie Fraser a worthy subject of a lasting fictional crush that rocked my world?  He is an enlightened and modern thinker of the Enlightenment era, meaning that he does still kinda believe in witches and faeries, but also in science, and can eventually be persuaded to not beat his wife for wrongdoing (after a knife to the throat).  He is a soldier, a mercenary, an expert swordsman, can ride any horse, even a demonic stallion that no one else can master, a farmer, a landlord, a leader of men, a student of science and progress, a virgin at the beginning of the first book, and a sex-god by the end of it.  

Packaged in a 6 foot 6 Viking-esque warrior’s body, like a red-haired, blue-eyed demon set on Earth to sway our time-travelling heroine Claire off the path of marital fidelity.  It could be said that he is the ultimate Gary Sue.  He does have flaws though, mostly pertaining to pride and being a man of his day, even if he is a progressive one.  He is the prototype that launched a thousand Highlander romance novels.

The most singularly swoonworthy thing about Jamie though is how much he loves his woman.  The end.

He will save his wife from his worst and most feared enemy, armed only with an unloaded pistol, even though he thinks she’s probably an English spy bent on turning him and his folk as traitors to the crown.

He will single-handedly rescue her from the midst of a witch trial that is in the process of condemning her, even though he’s fairly sure she really is a witch.

He will trade his soul and his body to keep her alive.  He will believe the insane truths she tells him, and based on them, betray his kin and his King.  What impressionable young hetro woman doesn’t want that level of devotion from her man?

At the opening of the book, Jamie has already been through a lot - imprisonment and two disfiguring floggings, exile, the soldiers life. near starvation, serious head injury, family intrigue, the death of both his parents....and he’s only 22.  And yet, Jamie is still fairly optimistic character, aside for when he or his wife are getting tortured, raped, nearly killed etc.  He’s not one to wallow unnecessarily in his Man Pain.  Until he is, and then grab the popcorn and watch Claire drain the pool.

While we’re here, I’d like to point out a few unexpected treats and differences that I got from the show that I didn’t get from the books.

1) Jamie’s knees

2)  The flogging and several other violent scenes that were disturbing enough in the books became Extremely Uncomfortable and Upsetting Viewing.  If you’ve seen the show or read the books you probably know what scenes I am talking about.

3) they didn’t hold back on the sex scenes.  Many gifs from the various scenes would get this post removed from Tumblr.  Many were so hot I was blushing whilst watching it alone.  DO NOT WATCH WITH YOUR PARENTS.

I have read all the books of course, though I mainly concentrated on the first one here, the one that spawned my crush.  IT was a couple of years before I got my hands on books 2 and 3, and the fourth one hadn’t been written yet (I did get to go to a book signing and have my copy of Drums of Autumn signed by Diana Gabadon, Herself!).  My parents remembered my love for the series, unfortunately, and tried watching the TV when it came out.  My dad finally saw the error of plucking a book at random from a shelf to give to his 15 year old daughter to read.

From my point of view rape use in GoT is so much worse than in Outlander. In GoT it is always an advancing "moment" for female character growth, which is, yakies, and feels like a wanking moment for audience, but on Outlander it's always framed as something horrible and bad. I still think there's way too much of it there, but I guess I'm trying to say how different are those portrayals.

I dislike both of them in equal measure for the rape scenes tbh. GoT because it’s hyper in your face. And Gabadon because she fell into the trap of “that’s just how things were back then”. Also the whole arc with Jamie and “The Predatory Evil Gays” just…….side eye……serious side eye.

What Are the Usefulness and Benefits of Percura?

The effect peripheral neuropathy can have on one's feet can be profound. Due to the ever increasing number of different species (kaiju, choju, seijins...) living together on Seijin-1, there are a lot of different cultures and beliefs clashing which, unfortunately, has led to all sorts of discriminations.

There are of course the laws making humans illegal on the planet and the rampant anti-ultra beliefs due to their alliance with humans.

Another source of arguments and fights linked to humans is the existence of “human-made kaiju”. Wether they were created with the intent to attack Seijin-1 or not, debates remain as to wether or not they should be allowed on the planet. Officially, the laws in place state every non-human being is allowed to move to and live on the planet- but discriminations remain. Some kaiju affected by the situation such as Gabadon are attempting to fight back against this by getting a special status and protection for human-made kaiju, but it’s proving to be a tough battle...

Sentient robots on the other hand struggle with different, more dangerous issues. According to manufacturers,  robots randomly gaining sentience upon being activated is a very recent and mysterious phenomenon- but if you ask robots, many well documented cases happening decades if not centuries ago have been hidden by manufacturers in order to keep selling units. Of course, no one wants their military-issued killing machines to be able to feel remorse or empathy ; or for their assembly lines to start asking for raises and days off... So more often than not sentient robots are immediately disassembled and melted down to be rebuilt, minus the conscience and emotions. Debate arose as to wether or not sentient robots should be given the same rights as biological monsters and how the disassembling and melting of one should be treated. For a long time this act was only considered “unlawful destruction of property”, leading to fines and short prison sentences only in rare cases. Thankfully a law written by Mayor Bemular was (very) recently adopted, qualifying such actions as first degree murder and adapting the different sanctions. Unfortunately, Breaking & Melting is still a widespread practice among many manufacturers and robot owners...

–Minalungao National Park-

Pambansang Liwasan ng Minalungao ay isang protektadong lugar ng Pilipinas na matatagpuan sa munisipalidad ng General Tinio, Nueva Ecija sa Gitnang Luzon. Ang parke ay sumasakop ng isang lugar ng 2,018 ektarya nakasentro sa kahabaan ng nakamamanghang Peñaranda River bordered sa magkabilang panig sa pamamagitan ng hanggang sa 16 metrong mataas limestone pader sa paanan ng Sierra Madre hanay ng bundok. Ito ay itinatag noong 1967 sa pamamagitan ng kabutihan ng Republic Act No. 5100.

Ang parke ay itinuturing bilang isa sa ilang mga natitirang natural na kapaligiran sa rehiyong ito sa hilaga ng Manila. Ito ay na-promote sa pamamagitan ng mga lokal na pamahalaan bilang isang ecotourism destination. Ito ay mayroong berdeng malinis na ilog at natatanging mga batong nabuo. Ang Dupinga ay lugar ng mga Dumagat (lumad) dito sila ang nangunang nanahan at nagpapatuloy magpa-hanggang sa ngayon subalit sa kadahilanang dumadami ang pumupunta at nakaka diskubre sa lugar tumataas din ang demand na magdagdag ng mga kubo kaya naman pumasok ang mga nakatira sa kalapit na barangay na hindi katutubo at nag umpisang magtayo ng kanya-kanyang kubo. Ang ibang Dumagat naman ay nagbebenta ng kanilang lupa kaya sa ngayon ay hati ang lugar para sa mga katutubong Dumagat at sa mga hindi katutubo.

-Gabaldon Falls-

-Pajanutic Falls-

Pajanutic Falls ay matatagpuan sa Carranglan, Nueva Ecija. Matatagpuan sa Mejedigan, Carranglan, ang lugar ay may lawak na 1.5 ektarya. Ito ay may waterfalls na may 15 metro ang taas na napapalibutan ng mga berdeng dahon. Ito ay isang magandang lugar para sa picnic at ekskursyon. Ito ay maaaring mapuntahan sa pamamagitan ng transportasyon at 15 kilometro ang layo mula sa Poblacion.

-Buburayok Spring-

Sa Rizal, ang Buburayok Springs sa may paanan ng Mount Amorong ay isang mainit na bukal na pinaniniwalaang nakagagamot. Matatagpuan din dito ang General Luna Falls na may 100 piye ang taas na umaagos pababa sa mabatong pader ng bundok.

-Dalton Pass-

Dalton Pass, tinatawag din na Balete Pass, ay isang zigzag road at mountain pass na nagdurugtong sa mga probinsya ng Nueva Ecija at Nueva Vizcaya, sa central Luzon isla ng Pilipinas.

Ang tuktok ng Dalton pass ay sa paligid ng 3,000 talampakan (910 m) sa elevation, : 517 na matatagpuan sa Caraballo Sur (mountain range) at ang Sierra Madre (mountain range). Ang puno ng ilog ng Digdig River nagmula sa timog lamang ng pass na ito. : 517 ang Balete Ridge ay nagsisimula sa dalawang milya sa kanluran-hilagang-kanluran ng pass, na may isang mataas na punto sa Mt. Imugan (5580 talampakan), at umaabot ng siyam na milya sa silangan-timog-silangan, kung saan ito ay nagtatapos sa Mt. Kabuto (4,600 talampakan).

-Eco Park-

Sa lugar na ito maraming magagandang lugar na maaari mong makita ang.Ito ay ang perpektong lugar upang bisitahin dahil sa kanyang  malamig na tubig,  karamihan ay sinasabing  ang Eco Park sa Gabaldon ay mabilis na pagkakaroon ng mabuting pangalan bilang isa sa mga pinakamahusay na mga  turista sa Nueva Ecija. Ang pagkakaroon ng iba-iba na impluwensya mula sa iba’t ibang mga tribo at mga komunidad, tinatangkilik Nueva Ecija isang buhay ng kapaligiran, na kung saan ay tiyak maraming turista ang pupunta. Pero bukod sa maayos at magandang lalawigan na ito, ipinagmamalaki rin ng maraming mga nakatagong kayamanan pati na rin ang mga lokal na tourist spot na hindi mo dapat makaligtaan. Tayo’y umaasa lamang sa tamang maintenance nito ,sang ayon ang karamihan bilang ang lugar ay talagang maganda at ito ay perpekto para sa mga naghahanap para sa isang murang paraan upang magsaya kasama ang pamilya at mga kaibigan.

-Munoz-

Muñoz, opisyal ng Science City of Muñoz, ay isang lungsod sa lalawigan ng Nueva Ecija, Central Luzon, Pilipinas, nakatayo 147 kilometro (91 mi) sa hilaga ng kabisera Manila. Dahil sa mayaman topograpiya nito at tropikal na klima, ito ay tahanan sa agrikultura pananaliksik at teknolohiya center, nakatuon sa ang produksyon ng impormasyon at teknolohikal na breakthroughs upang itaguyod rural development, produktibo at seguridad sa pagkain ngayon.

Mula sa kanyang mababang-loob pinagmulan bilang “Sitio Papaya”, ito ay pinalitan bilang Muñoz noong 1886 sa karangalan ng Spanish Governor Don Francisco Muñoz. Ito ay sa 1913, sa ilalim ng Executive Order No. 72, kapag Muñoz ay ipinahayag bilang isang bago at independiyenteng munisipalidad.

-Pantabangan Dam-

Pantabangan Dam ay isang lupa-fill dike dam sa Pampanga River na matatagpuan sa Pantabangan sa Nueva Ecija lalawigan ng Pilipinas. Ang multi-purpose dam nagbibigay ng tubig para sa patubig at hydroelectric power generation habang nito reservoir, Pantabangan Lake, affords pagkontrol sa baha. Reservoir ay itinuturing na isa sa mga pinakamalaki sa Timog-silangang Asya at din ang isa sa mga cleanest sa Pilipinas. Konstruksiyon sa dam ay nagsimula noong 1971 at ito ay kumpleto sa 1977.

-Gross Ostrich Farm-

Gross Ostrich Farm San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija – Matatagpuan sa Brgy. Tagumpay, San Leonardo, Gross Ostrich Farm lumalaki, breed at propagates import ostriches parehong para sa mga tao consumption at para sa turismo tulad ng pagbebenta ng mapalamuting itlog, katad wallets, makukulay na balahibo at iba pang pamamagitan ng mga produkto. Maabot Ostriches taas ng tungkol sa 7 – 8 mga paa, may bigat 110-130 kg, ay tumatakbo sa isang bilis ng 60 km / h, ay may isang habang-buhay ng 50 – 80 na taon at isang pag-aanak buhay ng 20 – 25 na taon.

Ang sakahan gumagawa fillet karne sa P600 / kl, steak sa P500 / kl at gumalaw magprito sa P400 / kl. On-site farm pagbisita upang makita ang “big bird” sa kanilang natural na tirahan ay inayos para sa mga mag-aaral at propesyonal magkamukha.
