GALA 3 TOP 3

Here is last week’s top 3!

I’ve decided I’m gonna do like I did last week from now on, with some honorable mentions at the beginning, because it makes everything much easier (although I have to say this week my top 3 is pretty clear). So, here we go!

Shotgun - Flavio: I’m sorry I just find it really funny how Flavio dances and that little smile he puts on. It’s hilarious for me, I don’t quite know why. Also, his singing was amazing, and the performance was really solid too.

Tu Frialdad - Jesús and Javy: This song was made for this duet istg. The lyrics are really good, and the power the two voices put into them are amazing. Just, really beautiful overall.

As a bonus, please listen to Podría Ser Peor by Anne and Bruno on Spotify, the performance in the gala was not very good, especially in Anne’s part (she got nominated, later saved by the contestants), but the recorded cover it’s amazing, and they worked so so much. Also, given what happened with Bruno this last week, I find it really funny that the first lyrics of the song, sung by him, are “va a costar”. Iconic.

3. MANIAC - SAMANTHA AND EVA:

The power duo of the night, wow! The two of them were really good, and during the week they were giving their all. Also, we all know why they gave them a duet together (Flavio a.k.a. “el seta”, my dears) so everybody thought they were gonna act all weird but no, now they are great friends and honestly, that’s why they deserve. Okay, now let’s talk about Samantha’s nomination. Like???? Just ????? I went so mad when they nominated her. Fortunately the teachers saved her but it was just ???? If I had to nominate one of them it would had been Eva, not Samantha. And the justification for the nomination ???? Basically they said an OT winner 12 years prior had done it better than her??? Like what??? Still not over it, but at least they saved her and the one who nominated her apologized publicly this morning.

2. LA DESPEDIDA - GÈRARD AND NIA

Can they be in the final please?? Like, can they be 100% for sure finalists? Because they deserve it. Nia hasn’t done a bad performance in all of the weeks (and next week it seems she’s gonna do another amazing job), and Gèrard deserves the world, he’s become one of my faves. Also Nia, but you know. Maybe I also see myself a bit in Gèrard, idk. Well, apart from that, they both did an amazing job during the week, they were professionals and delivered this fucking amazing power ballad that I didn’t know but wow. Honestly, amazing.

1. SEÑORITA - ANAJU AND HUGO

Here is the original song, by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello (I know y’all know this song but I have to put it nonetheless)

Holy fucking shit. Holy shit. Did you know how was watching that live??? I nearly had a heart attack holy shit. Look, before this week I really didn’t care much about the song, but everybody who watches OT knew that this song was coming up. What we didn’t predict tho, was this pairing. Like we thought it was gonna go to one of the millions of ships there are this edition (it’s really hard to keep up with all that’s happening, really) and they they gave it to Hugo and Anaju, that apparently didn’t had anything to do. I say apparently cause you all saw this performance. Apart from that, even though it was already one of my favourite songs of the week cause since min 1 they commited 100% to the acting (as I said before, I really value acting in performances), fuck it, here’s a video of their first acting class of the week so you can squeak with me (around the 10 minute mark they start singing after improv and whatnot); I didn’t know if it was gonna hold up in the gala, maybe they would be to shy or something, and also, I wasn’t liking Anaju’s voice for the most part of the week. But they delivered. Holy shit did they delivered. And Hugo was favourite, so that’s great!!!

So that was it!!! This week is the shipping week it seems, as three big ships, Geranne (Gèrard + Anne), Hugeva (Hugo + Eva) and Flamantha (Flavio + Samantha) are getting duets, so this could be interesting. I’m already loving the Geranne one and I haven’t even heard how they sound like, but again, I’m really not objective here.

TOP 3 GALA 10

GOD I MISSED OT AND I MISSED THESE POSTS. Here is last gala’s post (8 fucking weeks ago it’s unreal) 

Anyways, that was a ride. This edition is becoming more and more surrealist as it goes on, but it’s also become the most iconic edition for sure. So, they are back in the Academy, of course with some restrictions, one of them being there’s no live audience, and also the dancers have to wear masks at all times which is really really weird. But, the funniest thing is, they filled the place where the audience would be with plants, they say each week there’s gonna be a theme, and this week was nature. And also, they selected some fans to be like a “virtual audience” that every two seconds pulled off giant signs about their faves and stuff like that; and you could send claps and cheers so they can put them after a performance. It was all very bizarre.

About the gala itself, it was heartbreaking, as Gèrard was the expulsed one (still very very pissed, I can’t even wrap my head around it, I refuse to accept it), and the nominations were stupid, but oh well. It was also really emotional, especially for me for various things I’ll talk about, and it was also really shown that the show has become basically a shipping fest at this point, we had shipping for days:

-They talked about the Flamantha (Flavio + Samantha)’s dinner (which was itself the peak of surrealism)

-They revealed Bruno gifted Maialen a necklace when they came back after quarantine (also they both broke up with their SO, so right now everyone is single)

-Jesús being there as a guest artist and shooting his shot so much with Nia it was unreal (he basically read a poem where he mentioned all of the singles of the contestants, and in the end, referencing Nia’s single “8 maravillas” [”8 wonders”], he said “take care of her, cause you have the 9th wonder in the Academy”; and also while he was singing he was looking directly at her). Here is his performance if you want to see it!!

-And finally, the other guest artist was Anne, y’all know how much I love her, she’s my favorite contestant and she was amazing. The thing is, her single, “Salté”, has the guitar played by Gèrard (which, in case you don’t know, is her boyfriend now), so, naturally, he had to play it here as well. They got to see each other after 4 fucking months and they couldn’t touch each other. At least Gèrard slept with her later that night :( Anyways, here is Anne’s performance if you want to see her!!! After that she said she’s working on her second single and either on an Album or an / EP, so that’s great news!!!

Okay, that was a lot, as you can see it was a busy gala lol. Anyways, let’s go to the performances:

Pillowtalk (Gèrard): I’m so proud of him, he went out with a bang. Also this was his gala for sure, not only did he sing this amazingly, he also was Anne’s guitarist and he recorded some additional voices for Nia’s performance! So yeah, he should had been a finalist, but at least he went out with this song. Also, fun fact, he is the contestant that has been the most amount of time nominated out of all OT history.

A Las Nueve (Bruno): This song is from an Uruguayan band, where he’s from, and I honestly really liked it. Also, I loved loved loved the five girls in the Academy being the girls in the song, and how each one had their different personalities and how Bruno interacted with them, just *chefs kiss*. I liked the Second Mic Pass more, tho, and he’s nominated this week, and likely to be the next expulsed cause he’s up against Flavio :(

Sueños Rotos (Samantha): I can’t get over how much this song SLAPS! It’s one of those songs I used to listen in my childhood and had nearly forgotten about, but this week brought it back to life and it’s honestly one of the best sad songs ever, it’s so good. Also, Samantha sung it in front of the original singer, Natalia Jiménez, singer of La Quinta Estación (she was the woman they kept showing), and that needs some guts. But I prefered way more when she sung it in Iván’s group class. See, each week there’s one 2h acting class with all of the contestants, and they are the best classes ever. This week they had to perform their songs helped by the other contestants to set a particular tone or scene, and Samantha’s was really emotional [she starts singing at 30:40]. She was nominated but later saved by the other contestants.

3. PART TIME LOVER - EVA

Eva has never been one of my favorite contestants, and still isn’t, but this last week has grown on me a lot, seeing how caring she was with Gèrard and how much she mentioned Anne. Even this afternoon, in her acting class, she told Iván that she believed Anne and Gèrard were the best voices this edition, and she couldn’t believe how they had been expulsed. Me neither, Eva, me neither. Anyway, she was so herself in this performance, it was her best in the contest since Gala 0 for sure. If she continues like this, she might be a clear finalist. She was nominated for whatever reason, but later saved by the teachers.

2. MAN DOWN - ANAJU

As she once said, “la diosa a la que yo le rezo” (”the goddess I pray to”). Look at her. She’s fucking gorgeous. I get the feeling I always talk about how good she looks but I still can’t get over how beautiful she is, both in the outside and in the inside. She’s a true queen, and in this performance she was impeccable, she screams finalist I tell you, especially now that she is the only one of my 3 faves that’s still on the program.

1. SARGENTO DE HIERRO - MAIALEN

Gala 10 is officially the Pamplona Gala cause holy shit the power from that city is immense. In OT 2017, Amaia sung one of her best songs, “Soñar Contigo”; in OT 2018, Natalia sung her best song, “The Scientist”; and in OT 2020, yesterday Maialen sung the second best song of the edition, for me equal to “Who Run The World” (and let’s not forget Anne, who’s also from Pamplona and sung “Salté”!). Like holy shit Maialen. Holy shit. Let’s start with the song, cause I love Morgan and I love “Sargento de Hierro” (”Steel Sergeant”), for me is one of the most heart-wrenching songs there has ever been written, it talks about time and the effect it has on people, and it’s so fucking powerful, every time I hear it I get teary eyed. A lot of people have covered it, cause again, it’s fucking amazing, like Andrés Suárez, my favorite Spanish singer; and OT 2018 contestants Sabela Ramil  (in Twitter, sorry) and Alba Reche; but Maialen just puts her own personal magic in there, making it absolutely spectacular. Simply spectacular. On Monday, while rehearsing at the stage, Gèrard started crying after she sung; and the same thing happened in the gala, everybody ended up crying but Gèrard looked absolutely demolished, they had to stop the interview with Flavio, the next one to sing, to ask him if he was okay. That’s the power of Maialen, who is for me a clear finalist, and could even end in the final top 3. After all, no OT is complete without someone from Pamplona in the top 3. No, but really, she was stellar, and everytime she sung it during the Mic Passes and all she created this same magic. I personally really liked her performance during the group class with Iván [she starts singing at 1:02:15], where the rest of the contestants had to pretend to be dead and she had to pass through their lifeless bodies. It was a lot. Anyways, stan Maialen.

And that was all, wow that was a lot, sorry, but it’s been 8 weeks since I’ve done this. Wow. Anyways, this week’s nominees are Flavio and Bruno, I’ll be saving Bruno as we all know Flavio is gonna stay and I just don’t wanna see Flavio win by a landslide, Bruno doesn’t deserve it. They are both singing their singles, so that will be interesting!

3. CELÉBRATE - FLAVIO

Flavio keeps killing these covers!! Also with “Celébrate”, I really love this song, one of the best singles from OT 2018 contestants for sure. And the original singer, Miki Núñez, is featured in the video, again, love seeing collabs between different OT editions!!! And also, the part they sing in Catalan!!!! That’s not in the original song, I always love hearing some more languages, and more in the case of Flavio, who was learning Catalan from Samantha in the Academy!

2. SURFIN’ U.S.A - GÈRARD

I know he and Flavio are always in the top 3, but they are the ones who make the best videos, that’s for sure, like look at him with the green screen, he’s hilarious!!! Also I adore the beginning, with those tidbits of some of the singles from OT 2020, “Díselo A La Vida” of Rafa, “Calma” of Flavio, and “Salté” of Anne (also his three strongest relationships in the Academy, not counting Nia that still doesn’t have a single out of course).

1. MARTA, SEBAS, GUILLE Y LOS DEMÁS - SAMANTHA

How cute is this video I miss them so much :( She captured the essence of OT perfectly, that “found family” trope that normally only happens in fiction, but happens in OT too. The other day Nia said during an ask that she’s an only child so she has always been kinda lonely, but that now she has 15 siblings and she’s much better. And that happens in all editions, it’s amazing. Also, can we talk about this song for a bit??? Here is the original song (and here are the English lyrics!), you need to hear it, Samantha adapted it to fit her friends in OT and stuff like that (behind the cut I’ll put the translation and explain the references and all of that, don’t worry). This is THE friendship song, a lot of Amaral songs are iconic and have become classics in Spain, but this one for me is the best one, is just too real, especially when you are all grown up and you don’t see your friends very often. 

Anyways, Samantha was really good, and also, on Friday she released her first single, “Sin Más”, so yay!

GALA 2 TOP 3

Here is last week’s top 3!

Okay so, this gala was better than last one, which was pretty easy but still. Just hoping they continue getting better haha. Even though I’m doing a top 3, de number 3 spot was really difficult to choose, so I’ll leave here some honorable mentions that I could just not leave out:

Sucker - Gèrard and Hugo: These two are winning me over slowly but surely, my two favourite guys for sure, and they did a pretty good job! For some reason they nominated Gèrard (later saved by the other contestants) and yeah, his acting was worse than Hugo, but it was fine overall, and they sound so good.

Mucho Mejor - Bruno and Javy: Just singing one of the most iconic Spanish rock songs is a win for me, but the attitude of these two completely won me over. This performance was my number 4 for sure. Like, Javy made a mistake with the lyrics and nobody even noticed. Here is the full original song if you want to listen to it.

Guantanamera - Nia and Anaju: This was my favourite performance prior to the gala, I thought this was gonna be so amazing. But the performance in the gala was the worst time they did the song, and Anaju got nominated (later saved by the teachers), that’s why I’ve put the link to their second mic pass, when they did it much better. But yeah, I loved how hard they’ve worked this week and how good they sounded. Here is the gala performance in case you wanted to watch it.

Now on to my top 3!

3. ILARGIA - ANNE & MAIALEN

I’ve chosen this song as number 3, apart from being because I love Anne and Maialen and their voices, and I love when they perform live, because this was the first song ever performed in Euskera (Basque) in all of OT history, and one of the few instances (I don’t know if it’s the first time or not) of a song in Euskera being performed in national television. And with this performance, all three co-oficial languages in Spain have been sung in OT, the other two just in last edition, by Miki in Catalan (Una Lluna A L’Aigua), and by Sabela in Galician (Benditas Feridas & Negro Caravel). And I also loved that they put subtitles, unlike Galician and Catalan which you can kinda understand if you know Spanish (although subtitles are always welcomed), Euskera is completely different and nightmare-ish (seriously, these are the lyrics of Ilargia in Euskera so you can get a taste of that language). Also yeah, Anne and Maialen were adorable and beautiful :) I liked them more in the second mic pass tho.

2. JEALOUS - NICK:

I’m saying right now that my top two performances were the ones from the two nominated contestants. They were so good, I’m only putting one above the other because a non-written rule of OT says the expulsed one usually performs the best song, and it applied in this gala. But yeah, Nick, my boy, he was amazing, centered, emotional, and with that beautiful voice. And the lyrics break me, because they are dedicated to his birth mother. And he’s an orphan, so she must had give him when he was a baby or something like that. The chorus of this song goes: “I’m jealous of the way you’re happy without me”. That hurts. A lot.

1. YOU KNOW I’M NO GOOD - ARIADNA:

It hurts me so much that she was the first expulsed, but another non-written rule of OT is that every edition one of the best voices gets expulsed right in the beginning, for OT 2017 was Marina, for OT 2018 África, and for OT 2020 Ariadna. I hope she has an amazing music career, and I know she’s gonna fight for it. This performance was stellar, amazing, incredible. Olé, Ariadna. Olé.

So this was all! Overall, it was a good gala, even though the judges started to show biases and preferences that I didn’t like at all (come on, I love Flavio, but they should’ve nominated him, Eva, or both, instead of Gèrard and / or Anaju). Also, I think Anne has been consolidated as my fave of this edition, and I’m excited to see next week’s song, which I’m 99% sure is gonna be a duet with Gèrard (they ship them, and every ship usually gets a song).

TOP 3 GALA 8

So, this was a very wild gala for sure. Also, for me it was the first gala I liked all the performances and we finally are at that point in the contest where everybody just snaps and starts doing amazing performances and nominations become more horrible than ever. First of all, let’s go through the special mentions:

Girls Just Want to Have Fun - Anaju & Samantha: Okay, let’s address the elephant in the room first. In case you didn’t know, on Sunday morning, in an acting class Jesús ran into Samantha’s knee, and she had to be on a wheelchair for the gala (here are some pics on Twitter, she was iconic) so they had to change the choreography in like 6 hours, and they had already changed it twice: Here is the second mic pass (on friday), and here is the second interpretation (on saturday), which would have been the one at the gala. So yeah, given all they had to work with, they did really good. Bad thing, they got nominated, buty they both were saved (Sam by the teachers and Anaju by the other contestants)

Brown Eyed Lover - Gèrard: Look at him go! I really liked his performance here, I think he’s improved a lot emoting and it shows. But, unfortunately, the judges keep repeating him each gala that he doesn’t emote enough (he’s an introverted for fuck sakes, he’s doing his best) and, of course, they nominated him again. And I think he’s gonna go people, why do all my faves get expulsed :(

Se Acabó - Hugo: He’s a rockstar! I enjoyed so much his performance and his week, he’s amazing and he’s one of my favourites. Sadly, again, he was nominated, the judges said that, as Maialen saved Bruno (each week the favourite has a privilege, this week was saving yourself or another contestant from nominations), he was the next in the list (I would’ve put other performances before Hugo’s tbh). Both Hugo and Gèrard were finalists for me, so yeah, tough week :/ but SAVE GÈRARD.

3. JUST A GIRL - MAIALEN:

Angry Maialen is my favourite Maialen, just look at her!!! I just love how much it contrasts with her bubbly and cutesy personality, she seems a completely different person, and that attitude!!! That attitude!!! For me it’s one of the contestants that has grown the most in the program, and she definitely deserved being the favourite!! I didn’t agree with her choice of giving her privilege to Bruno, but it was her decision and we have to respect it :)

2. MUJER LATINA - NIA

Can Nia stop winning OT every gala please???? Like, everybody knows at this point that she’s gonna win. Even my friend who doesn’t watch the program told me the other day that she had to win. It’s just a fact at this point. And she hasn’t done a bad song, this woman is other-worldly. Every song she does, in any possible style or genre, she just works and works and make perfect performances. Just, amazing. All hail Nia Correia.

Okay, after this performance, Flavio HAS to be a finalist. He just has. Look at him go, an impeccable performance, everything about it it’s just *chef kiss*. Watching at home we were so happy when he ended we started clapping, we were so proud of him. He really struggled with this song, here is the first mic pass, where he couldn’t even perform. And to see how that transformed into that amazing performance... Flavio finalist thank you.

And that was all! This next gala might be the last for Gèrard, so, out of my three favourites, only Anaju will remain in the contest. This is gonna be hard, oh boy.

Here is last week’s top 3!

And... the worst-case scenario happened... Anne was the expulsed one💔💔💔. I’m writing this the next Tuesday and I’m still heartbroken, especially seeing how broken is Gèrard :(

It was a really intense gala, for me it was really weird, had some really high highs (Samantha as a concept, the imitations, my number one spot this week...) but also really low lows (Anne’s goodbye, Estr*lla Mor*ente and her disgusting attitude, again Anne’s goodbye and how she was in the chat cause I can’t get over it...)

Anyways, let’s go through the honorable mentions:

Lately by Bruno: I liked his performance. Like, I know it wasn’t his best and it was definitely the weakest performance among the three nominees, but I didn’t see he did it that bad. Anyways, he got nominated again sadly :(

Video Killed The Radio Star - OT 2020: I really liked this group song! Like, I think it’s the best one to date, if they have a tour, I imagine this performance would be there! Also this was the first gala where everybody was dressed nicely, without any stylistic disasters so yay. Finally, fun fact, it was revealed accidentally by Samantha that everybody there had made out with at least one person. Yup.

La Lista de la Compra - Samantha & Rafa: I’m putting this performance exclusively because of Samantha, and because the song is catchy af. Like imagine being as iconic as her. And the interview previous to this performance was soo good, Sam was the protagonist of the gala for sure. And when she judged the judges!! Amazing, really. Rafa got nominated.

La Última Noche - Nia & Jesús: Is there anything Nia can’t sing? They sung the song really beautiful, Jes��s is not exactly my cup of tea but I have to recognised he works and he has a good voice, so that’s that. Also, this is a shipping song, one of the last there can still happen (only one left is Rafa & Eva if Rafa isn’t expulsed this week)

And I would also put Volver here but... you know what happened. For those of you who don’t, basically Nia as the favourite got to sing with an invited artist, in this case Estrella Morente. They got to rehearse it once, and then they performed it in the gala. But, in the beginning of the song, Estrella created some new lyrics in favour of bullfighting (Maialen had said a month ago that bullfighters are assassins while eating, just a comment and that’s it, but this week for some reason bullfighting supporters were pressing charges against the program and shit like that) which fucked everything. And it sucks cause Nia was wonderful but nobody talked about her after that. So yeah, I’m not giving that woman any more exposition.

3. THAT’S LIFE - FLAVIO

Each week I like him more and more I swear, look at him go!! It has become one of my favourites, and deserved too. He was so good in this song, it fit him so well, and I really like how happy he was during the performance, given what a tough week this was for him. I hope he gets to the final, this performance was worthy of that in my opinion.

2. UNCHAINED MELODY - ANNE

There goes my girl :( If you are following these posts, you’ll know she was my favourite since the first week, and look at her, she went out with a bang. Definitely her best pass of the song,she did so well, and so beautifully. She shouldn’t have to leave the Academy this early in the contest, really, but at least she did it giving all she has. The only thing that destroys me is the fact so many people were hating on her for the past two weeks, and that, even though she has already say she’s scared of social media and still hasn’t appeared on any social media since her expulsion, she’ll probably read some hate posts, especially in Twitter, and it’s gonna affect her 💔 At least she had one of the most beautiful moments in the Academy for now, the recording of her single, “Salté” (which releases in early March!)

1. CON ALTURA - MAIALEN & ANAJU

There’s always a song in each edition that has a bit of a rock sound, really loud and energetic that instantly become fan favourites and they are made to sing from the top of your lungs or / and while on the car. In OT 2017 it was a bit difficult to choose one cause there wasn’t a clear song that had all those elements, but the closest one was La Revolución Sexual. And in OT 2018 was for sure Voy En Un Coche (it literally translates to “I’m In a Car”), María herself embodies all of this. And this edition, it was this performance. WHAT TWO QUEENS. Like honestly, the two most versatile of this editions (with Sam) like hello???? They were amazing, and throughout the week were cute as shit, like, Mai is always cute and puking rainbows and with positivity at all times, but with Anaju was extra cute, and Anaju herself too. It was a pleasure to see both of them support each other during this week, they were so great :)

And that’s it, this week for me is more relaxed after a whole week seeing hundreds of hate comments towards Anne and seeing how she was the least voted in all surveys, so I’m taking it easy. Three nominees again, Bruno, Hugo and Rafa, and both Bruno and Hugo are people I really like and I really can’t choose between them, so I’ll be saving both. For now I’m saving Bruno cause I’m seeing Hugo is winning by a landslide, like Flavio last week, but I’ll see after the mic pass if I change my vote, I don’t know.

RANDOM OT 2020 SONGS

Here's the OT 2018 one!

Before starting, quick disclaimer, I won't include the quarantine videos, only galas!!

1. UP - GÈRARD & ANAJU

This was such a cute performance!!!

2. SEÑORITA - ANAJU & HUGO

Everyone knew when OT 2020 was announced that they were gonna sing "Señorita", and here is the result! It was A LOT, like probably one of the most commented performances of the edition, it was a whole deal.

3. RUN THE WORLD (GIRLS) - NIA

CULTURAL RESET! Lots of people still say this was the best performance of the edition, so yeah, this was A LOT, it changed the game to be fair. Nia is such a queen, god.

4. PERFECT DAY - MAIALEN & FLAVIO

This was such a nice performance!! Also loved the atmosphere they created and their chemistry jo 🥺

5. LA LISTA DE LA COMPRA - RAFA & SAMANTHA

No but I'm obsessed with Samantha's acting here!! Easily one of both's best performances, for sure, it has such a great energy!

6. MUJER LATINA - NIA

Once again, Nia being a freaking goddess!!! I swear she didn't give out a bad performance during the contest

7. JUST A GIRL - MAIALEN

Angry Maialen is such a mood, I freaking love this!!!

8. LAY ALL YOUR LOVE ON ME - OT 2020

One of their best group songs! Love the harmonies, and also the bit at the end when they bend the knee in memory of George Floyd's murder!

9. HEY BABY - EVA & FLAVIO

Love their chemistry and how much fun they're having, probably one of the best duets of the edition, if not the best!!

10. 7 RINGS - ANAJU

A QUEEN! A LITERAL QUEEN! NO ONE DID IT LIKE HER!! JUST LOOK AT IT!! SHE IS AN ICON SHE IS THE MOMENT
