The hunter ducked to the right as talons came for him. It sailed above him, grazing his shoulder. Slick parts of its innards also ran across his skin. Aspis shivered as he thought of tendrils also hidden beneath them. His weapon lie abandoned a couple meters away and the monstrous half of this woman stood in the way. Her wings spread further to intimidate him

“Fine mess to end up in...” he remarked as he noticed legs that he swore he didn’t see there earlier. A civilian?

Begged for it even, struggling to understand the memories of ‘Cloud’ and why he had them. (And... I'm sorry. ...Sorry. ...Sorry. I never lived up to being 'Cloud'.) He had to have one, didn’t he? The other clones did, the experiments bearing tattoos that declared their identity, but he didn’t.

He didn’t have a number. He would never have a number.

It bothers him more than he can easily explain that this operative had one, that he offered it idly in lieu of a name, as a name (the black cloak doesn’t help either but there’s no mutterings of Reunions and maybe the universe was being mildly kind this time). The experiments were over, done with, something they can’t (won’t) allow to happen again.

Whatever information this guy wanted, Cloud wasn’t so sure he wanted to give it.

Yet there was no real reason to distrust him, so far, outside of his own difficult memories, no reason for the stiffening of his shoulders as a hand brushed over them, smoothing out the fabric of his shirt. There’s no real reason but Cloud can’t help but to tense up anyway, to wince and turn his head away.

I don’t need your help, he wants to tell him, there isn’t a threat anymore so why are you here? 

“...Thanks.” He offers, instead, returning his sword to the harness strapped to his back.

Kaguya’s days in the Kyoto mansion had been spent in solitude, save a few small chit-chat with a few roaming servants who had been kind enough to give her a little attention. During daylight hours she locked herself away studying scrolls, taking in its lessons so that she may never forget what it had to offer her.

Beneath the autumn night sky, the heian beauty sat moon gazing at the waning moon in a lush patch of grass. Her eyes were bound it’s soft glow, as a few streams of tears. She didn’t even notice the gentle sounds the rest of the world that would prompt her to at least glance over her shoulder.

Oh my god

1. How does your character think of their father? What do they hate and love about him? What influence - literal or imagined - did the father have?

We don’t actually learn much of anything about him, Cloud just says his father is dead. (The wiki entry for his mother says he “disappeared” ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

I don't know if you could call it a 'family'......My father... died when I was still very young. 

I think it’s pretty much impossible for an absent parent not to have some sort of influence though and Cloud does exhibit some of the common effects- aggression, low self esteem, depression. Grain of salt though, I’m not a psychologist or able to diagnose in any capacity, but articles from google about sons growing up without fathers seem to hit a few points with Cloud’s personality over the years (ha). He gets into fights with other kids, he doesn’t often think much of himself (that he’s weak, incapable), I’d wager his desire to be noticed and become a hero might stem from this too, he wants attention, to be someone great and powerful.

2. Their mother? How do they think of her? What do they hate? Love? What influence - literal or imagined - did the mother have?

He does seem to like his mother though, and recalls that she was a vibrant woman who raised him by herself. The brief time we see her in flashbacks he’s visiting after joining the military and she fusses over him, worries, comments on the kind of girl she’d like to see him with haha. 

In her concept art she’s said to be 33 years old, Cloud was 16 when she died which would have made her a teen mother, 17 when he was born. If true (concept art, grain of salt, never explicitly said etc etc) it might explain a lot, the other people in his hometown seem to not really like Cloud when he’s a kid for no real reason, even the adults are quick to blame him and don’t really hide that they don’t care for him much. Nibelheim was a small town, there might have been some bias carried on from his young single mother.

There’s not much to go on! But she clearly loved him and wanted him to do well, and in Crisis Core he invites Zack to meet her and have dinner with them, he wanted her to know his friends. 

3. Brothers, sisters? Who do they like? Why? What do they despise about their siblings?

None! He’s an only child.

5. Were they overprotected as a child? Sheltered?

Not really, I wouldn’t say so. His mother does seem to nag him a little, but it seems to come from a caring place, she just wants him to be okay. He left his hometown when he was 13 to try and join SOLDIER, something most young boys did.

He’s kind of sheltered in general though? He goes from growing up in a small town to being taken care of by the military to being comatose and experimented on for a few years to being an eco terrorist on the run that doesn’t even know who he is hahaha. There hasn’t been a lot of time for him to sit down and have a “normal” life, and Tifa comments that he doesn’t even know the names of some fruits and vegetables. 

He’s from a small country “backwater” town and thinks he can leave for the city and become a famous hero. He was fairly naive when younger but has had more than a few doses of reality to bring that down a couple pegs.

8. How does your character feel about religion?

There’s a good bit of religious imagery and references in FFVII but people don’t seem to really practice anything in general. You meet Aerith in an old church, she prays to summon holy, there are some temples and mentions of gods. However it’s actual fact that all living things have a spiritual energy that returns to the Lifestream after death and this “river of souls” encircles the planet, then bringing new life. Cloud has literally fallen into this “afterlife” a few times and has been “visited” by friends that have passed on- it’s very rare for someone to remain themselves once in the Lifestream though, their energy just diffuses into and joins the rest.

He knows that the planet is “alive”, that he will join the Lifestream when he dies, but he doesn’t seem to really worship anything specific. (the vague gist of things)

13. Did they like school? Teachers? Schoolmates?

There had to have been some kind of school but we never see or hear any mention of it at all. The kids he grew up with didn’t like him, he decides to not like them too and gets into fights. Tbh no one seemed to like him other than Tifa but they both admit they weren’t even all that close when they were younger.

He joined the military at 13 and didn’t do so well, was just an infantryman grunt, and he’s pretty embarrassed at the fact that he’s not done better for himself. He seemed to like the people there until they took him in for experimentation though so there’s something. Cloud didn’t like anyone until then hahaha.

21. What are your character’s manners like? What is their type of hero? Whom do they hate?

I’m not sure what any of these have to do with each other to be condensed into one question but okay.

Cloud can be kind of a sassy little shit.  He doesn’t really go out of his way to be rude but he’s not afraid to show his displeasure at topics that annoy him. Or people that annoy him. In the movie he basically never answers his phone but I reckon that’s a lot more of the Geostigma depression making him want to hide from people instead of just outright being rude. He cares about his friends a lot though and checks in with them, tries to be a good leader. There’s just a little attitude sometimes.

His favorite type of hero is alien DNA and nuclear waste enhanced military weapons apparently (I’m getting sassy myself the longer I write). He was enamored with stories of Sephiroth when he was younger, the great military general. He values strength and bravery and wants them for himself too. Unless this means what kind of hero he is which is... not particularly but sort of. Cloud has good intentions and TRIES HIS BEST but often makes mistakes and isn’t any sort of stereotypical usual hero but he does help save the world in the end and has a big soft heart. 

Though I suppose he now hates Sephiroth ha. Burned down his hometown! Killed the only healer in the party! Controlled and manipulated him! He’s real over all of it. Most of Shinra is probably up there too but I’m not sure it’s all as strong as hate, just... a really strong dislike. He seems to sort of get along with the Turks by the time of the movie.

34. Does your character feel self-righteous? Revengeful? Contemptuous?

He’s definitely pretty resentful of the things that were done to him and the people behind it, and spends most of the series fighting against both. Sephiroth again is a big part of any revenge seeking- to save the planet, for the people that were killed, for being used. He’s not really wrong for any of this though tbh everyone’s trying to kill the planet and everyone on it and he’s not having any of that shit.

     ya nuo doesn’t look up in 619′s direction.  they keep the case closed for a long moment, before they open it up, pulling out the polearm they had…  well, stolen, for lack of a better word, from their grandparents.  “ THIS IS A DAGGER-AXE, or a gē.  both words work fine.  it’s a family heirloom.  i’m going to use it to fight the monsters with, because getting close to them just results in me getting hurt. ”

🎄 = my opinion on AUs

AUs are a lot of fun, I really enjoy trying to translate canon material into something else, fitting my characters into other worlds and making them still recognizable. I’m not sure if it also counts- but I used to play in a lot of panfandom RP games where characters were brought in to a new separate world for xyz reason and got to interact. They were still their canon selves but tossed into a new different world and it’s always fun figuring things out that way too.

THAT SAID I really am not overly familiar with a lot of other series because I don’t branch out much these days so... I’m not so great at joining in the fun. Always up for hearing about it though!

I also don’t mind rp’ing with characters that are primarily AU, I like seeing what people do with their characters.

I always loved the original game though and figured I’d give it a shot. Cloud’s settled in pretty well with my writing, I reckon it’s a good fit. I enjoy that he doesn’t give up (or at least, gets back up when he does), that he’s really struggled and faced difficult situations but keeps trying. It’s fun writing someone who is pretty much always a work in progress. I’m also a quiet weirdo who tends to disappear so, I feel you, movie Cloud. 10 ( DREAM JOB ): I don’t think I’ve ever really decided. Sugar Baby. 11 ( MEANING BEHIND YOUR URL ): From a line Cloud says in the movie, to Zack “I said I’d live out both our lives, easy to make that promise.”

a horrible way to meet | accepting

     ya nuo groans as they sit up.  they have to remind themselves that they’re not supposed to be able to see.  lightning to the face last summer, && all.  they inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale for a few good seconds, trying to place the unfamiliar voice.  something about the voice sounds...  WRONG, but ya nuo can’t quite tell.

     where...  where are they?  THAT’S THE NEXT QUESTION that runs through their head; this isn’t their apartment complex, at least, they don’t think--they don’t hear any of the hustle && bustle from the outside, where there would normally be some sort of background noise.  but ya nuo suddenly feels pain--&& THAT TAKES UP THEIR ATTENTION.

     they fall backwards once more, a hand curling up to hold the back of their head--where they feel something like bandages over it, which only heightens their fear--before they panic fully.  ya nuo forces their body to stand up, then they pat themself down.  

    “ n--nǐ shì shéi? ”  they ask first in mandarin, a bit too dazed for english.  but then it occurs to ya nuo that they may need to repeat themself, in english this time:

     “ WHO ARE YOU? ”
