Both routes have a special place in my heart and are incredibly well done. In my opinion, the payoff of seeing Jocelyn x MC's relationship develop are the same regardless- and here's why:

It's all a slow burn, baby ✨

lol but really, @livelaughlovecassie mentioned this in one of their tags earlier in the week and I wanted to expand on it.

If we look at all the LIs ILW has to offer, it makes sense why Jocelyn is the only one MC can pursue a fwb-type of relationship with.

With Amalia being demisexual, I don't see her ever agreeing to it.

When MC meets Lincoln, the man has walls. Tall ones. He may have had more casual relationships in the past, but when presented with the suggestion by MC, he refuses to engage. The man is afraid of getting close- as friends or romantically.

Matthias- he ain't looking at you unless you have something to offer. His one other relationship besides MC resulted in a marriage and a family, so I imagine he's not one to do things casually. All or nothing for grandpa Matty.

Abel has no problem emotionally connecting with others. Out of all the LIs, his relationship w/ MC can progress the fastest. However, true physical intimacy proves to be more of a struggle for his character. His scars are a source of insecurity, which preclude him from being completely vulnerable with his past partners. Because of this, I can't see him wishing to pursue a purely physical relationship.

But Jocelyn? She is a very physical person. A dedicated athlete- a skilled fighter- she's even getting a degree in Physical Education lmao. It's clear from the jump that she's the type to act first, think later- a trait that allows a fwb route to not only be possible, but believable. That, in my opinion, is the hardest part to achieve.

Whether MC starts a slow burn or a fwb-type relationship with Jocelyn, it is clear that she is not used to being emotionally vulnerable with others. There's an almost innocent quality that is wonderfully juxtaposed by her bluntness seen in her romance scenes throughout the slow burn route. That, along with the small tidbits of information MC gets to learn about her and vice versa, make this a path worth exploring.

Now, onto path 2:

At the start of the fwb route, Jocelyn seems to be more in her element. More confident. Even without romancing Joss, MC learns that she is no stranger to sex during the gang's dinner party in chapter 14. It is only when the emotional aspects of their relationship begin to flourish that she shows any uncertainty. I think the best example of this is seen during their scene at Matthias' mansion- and again on the Ferris wheel, where after a moment of vulnerability, Jocelyn reverts back to the familiar, physical relationship she knows.

With the amount of smut PB has put out in recent years, I think we're all aware of how one-note a sexual relationship can be. I can't recall who said it originally from the ILW team, but to loosely paraphrase: some readers will naturally gravitate towards the romantic elements of the story, but all of them will lose interest if the overall plot is not engaging enough to keep their attention.

There may be some who find the distribution of 'dirty thirty' scenes among the LIs unfair due to the nature of Jocelyn's fwb route. My response to that is this: giving every LI the same amount of 'dirty thirty' scenes would do more harm to the storyline than good. Part of what makes ILW such a great series is its ability to make each relationship feel earned, not automated. There should be intent behind scenes like those, otherwise it serves no real purpose other than to satisfy an arbitrary quota.

The magic of Jocelyn's fwb route is rooted by thoughtful writing. She doesn't read as an entirely different person between the two routes because there is a sound understanding of character. That, along with readers being given full agency on how to navigate this kind of relationship make a wonderful story.

And on a less thoughtful, more lizard-brain note: those scenes were HOT 🔥🔥🔥

Part of my Ikemen Villains experience has been creating Robin OCs (MCs?) that are partially inspired by 19th century classical literature/poetry, save for about one or two, one for each boy.

mera everytime I read your fics I can't decide if my fave is riddle, azul, or jade 👁👄👁 how does one go about choosing?

It depends on what you would like most: mr. mommy issues, mr. breeding kink, or mr. suspicious dealer. Or as my friends say: one vs eight vs very large LOL. If it helps you choose a favorite, the fics I have planned for the three are as follows:

Riddle - just one fic planned for now. it involves the victorian era, a very unhinged overblot!riddle, a very dead non-overblot!riddle, mysterious death, and secret relationship.

Azul - a fic involving contractual fwb, slow-burn yandere, smut, fun banter, and too much flirting. like an abyssal amount. azul is down horrendous. it's actually really soft and tame because i wrote most of it with chase atlantic on shuffle. azul's an absolute dork throughout the entirety of the fic. also mr. azul 'just the tip' ashengrotto (make of that what you will). aside from that, you can expect another captive azul fic, which involves human!jade leech and rook hunt as researchers. rook plays cupid for azul. azul does not understand the meaning behind every love song rook plays at full volume, but wow does that spark something in him. meanwhile jade bonds with the other captive (reader) in azul's enclosure. >:D there's also a camboy!azul fic, which is considerably darker than all of my other azul fics and has azul playing femme fatale for the sake of a very unhealthy obsession.

Jade - dru chapter five!! he's a horrible man. </3 but omg can he cook a killer meal (pun very much intended). there's also a fic in which jade and floyd engage in some sibling rivalry over floyd's darling. jade leech finds he enjoys reflections a little too much, especially when his own is pressed against yours and displayed so perfectly in the mirror.

1. Arranged Marriage Series (Rated MA) Is this cheating to self rec an entire series? If I had to choose just one, I'd say part 1 (because I love the whole "will they / won't they" scenario and the juicy bits leading up to their marriage and bonding). I'm also excited to be posting part 3 now, since that has the first of 2 past arcs! The story is very complex and touches on a complicated relationship between two people who are damaged on top of having: different personalities, love languages, cultures, power dynamics, and ages, but who are willing to work together to bridge the gap. I could go on about their relationship and the symbolism behind it, as every action is purposeful, but I will spare you (until another day). :P

2. Double Trouble (Rated MA) This one is just fun! I love the thought of past and present Tomoe coming together to, ahem, please Nanami ;) Also, it was just fun to let loose and write whatever the heck I wanted without pressure to make it serious or perfect. XD I made some mistakes but you know what? I don't care and that's beautiful.

3. Courtesans Series (Rated MA) This is, in my opinion, my tightest work yet in terms of character progression. I really love the dark themes in the story, but mostly I love the themes of coming into oneself, finding one's values outside of external pressure, and showcasing vulnerability despite extreme risk. I also love Nanami's struggles as a modern woman in an antiquated society. The growth for Tomoe is more pronounced, but Nanami has her fair share as well.

4. Twenty First Times (Rated MA) This one was so much fun to write! It has a simple plot and an emotional slow burn, starting from a FWB perspective. I tried a more minimalist approach when writing each chapter, wanting to say more with less (i.e., Don't Make Me Think). I really love the way it turned out and find it a quick and easy read despite the fact it's 80K. This is why if anyone asks which fic to read first, I say this one.

5. Sleeping With Ghosts (Rated G) A lot of my work these days is very dialogue heavy (likely because I'm an extrovert). I decided to go back to my roots with an introspective piece that was one part angst, one part character study, and one part word play. There is a lot of intentional symbolism in this fic, as well as playing up themes of warmth vs cold, wholeness vs fragmentation, loneliness vs aloneness, and object impermanence / absence framed as a literal death. There's a lot more to it than that, but if you read it aloud, you find that it flows poetically, with the cadence and word arrangement. That was intentional as well.

I wish I was someone who had more time to dedicate to this, but if someone out there could time how many scenes B/A has had since the shower™️ where they’re NOT hooking up (pre and post hookup too) or discussing hooking up, I bet we’d have less than 5 minutes of content.—honestly, yeah. i think that’s why they’re being so aggressive lately. and it’s why bughead working together and actually being around each other without it being sexual has them gritting their collective teeth because bughead always gets what they want for b/a they just don’t want to own up to that fact (the whole archie and betty as a new detective duo was particularly transparent tho). because then it’s like, well, why not just ship bughead (you know, how they say to us about b/a all the time). 

my best guess is that they just like archie. or kj. or hate jughead, ha. 

That’s not a love story being told.—it really doesn’t seem like it, does it? i’ve already seen lots of goalpost moving. it went from they’re already in love and they’re going to date right away and be engaged by the end of the season to they’re fwb who are going to fall in love to archie is going to make betty jealous with chad and veronica to betty is the one who called it friends so archie is pining for her and she’ll realize what she has when it’s gone and they’ll have that slow burn for 5b or s6. 

what have bugheads said consistently? betty and jughead are going to reunite after the time jump once they start spending time together because they’re still in love with each other after all this time, despite all of their obstacles in the past and present. 

i believe varchies have said the same thing. but two totally different groups of shippers are totally off base and the ones who made grand declarations every season much to their own disappointment are the ones who are on the money, yeah? 

but we’re the ones who can’t read media, right? 

i feel like one of us has a more consistency with reading narratives vs the other. but that might just be me. 

That’s trying to get softcore p*rn on the CW to enjoy KJ and Lili’s hotness! That’s why I side-eye the people who say they are “really enjoying B*rchie this season” like bitch where? You’re enjoying two hot actors being semi naked and sexy around each other? Ok then just say that and leave.—if people want to enjoy the actors hotness, that’s fine with me. all the time jumps in teen shows (or when it starts as adults) have more explicit sex scenes. they’re really not special in that regard. lots of people who are just watching pretty people do sexy things aren’t nearly as invested as the other shippers so i’m sure a fair few of them won’t actually mind when it ends, tbh. they’ll probably awww at the reunions along with the rest of us.

It's funny how the BAs don't understand what the writers are doing. They are not exploring BA on any emotional level, so the only thing they can do to keep BAs hooked is sex scenes.—mood. there seems to be no actual plot moving around their hookups other than it being used to introduce something else and hanging over their heads as a dramatic chekhov’s gun. 

The only thing that I really don't like about that scene is that one of my headcanons was that Betty didn't want to have sex at the Cooper house because she didn't want to do it on what used to be Jug's room. BUT, I still have *some* hope that she won't go through with it, but I'm probably just kidding myself—i’m sorry the show is ruining that headcanon for you. they’re really not as sentimental about some things the way we are. it’s really just betty’s childhood room in the frankest sense of the words, you know? they’re probably just there for plot; the way the car was or the shower was. they’re not thinking past that. 

i’ve discovered that there are things in my own writing that people take to a deeper meaning that i randomly do or say with no intention of it being taking as anything other than at face value. you really can’t predict who’s going to find something deeper in something when you put it out into the world, you know? 

maybe the whole thing is a fire hazard for a reason, ha. i have no idea what the show’s obsession with candles is, but i’m starting to think they’re all boxed up and labeled “sex candles—pairing optional” when they’re not being used on set.

What do you hope your readers take away from your work? i hope they can actually feel the emotions i’m hoping to convey from each character (referring to my more angsty works) or their sweet tooth gets satiated hehe

What do you do when you hit a rough spot creatively? i try to read other stories or talk to my moots to help me!

What is your favorite work and why? Your most successful? i think my fav has to be only forever because it’s something that i feel like is really cliche but it actually represents the meaning of young innocent first loves. i reminds me of what someone’s youth should sort of feel like. my most successful has been jsmr: sugar and spice because who doesn’t love jsmr!jeno and some sweet fluff and a spicy make out scene 🤭

Who is your favorite person to write about? jeno or jaemin tbh

Do you think there’s a difference between writing fanfiction vs. completely original prose? there is a slight difference because fanfiction provides you a sort of foundation with characters but to be honest, i believe that if you just switch the names and perspectives for most of the stories on here, it would become a bestselling hit because it conveys the same emotions and it’s just as enjoyable to read. the writers on here are truly exceptional. 

What do you think makes a good story? i definitely think little details and the nuances that add to the plot development and character development. most importantly, if a story evokes emotions from me and i can feel the story then i think it’s beautiful in itself. 

What is your writing process like? for me, i can come up with an idea based off of anything that might inspire me. like watching something, reading another story or just a dream i have. then i like to outline my stories by bouncing ideas with my best friend and from there once i figure out all the points i wanna hit i start writing! or for spur of the moment fics i deadass just start writing

Would you ever repurpose a fic into a completely original story? yes, most likely. 

What tropes do you love, and what tropes can’t you stand? i love fwb to lovers and enemies to lovers! also soulmate!aus / tatbilb tropes cus i’m a sucker for cheesy stuff. i’m not a big fan of cheating/parent/apoc!aus or love triangles. oh and i can’t stand slow burn 😭

How much would you say audience feedback/engagement means to you? as someone who lives off of validation, it means a lot and motivates me to write my stories and post them! we put so much hard work into our stories, so feedback and engagement is honestly the least you can do 🥺

What has been one of the biggest factors of your success (of any size)? i think just being in a community with other talented writers has taught me a lot!! and of course, having people read my work.

Do you think fanfic writers get unfairly judged? yes! all the time. 

Do you think art can be a medium for change? yes, maybe not on a macro scale but personally definitely. 

Do you ever feel there are times when you’re writing for others, rather than yourself? sometimes, but i always try to pull myself back into why i really started writing. but writing for others helps motivate me. 

Do you ever feel like people have misunderstood you or your writing at times? not on a serious level! it’s more so how details and events are interpreted but it’s fun to see how ppl have different perspectives on own piece versus your own vision.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers who might be too scared to put themselves out there? i think you need to realize why you’re writing and it’s because it brings you happiness, and you’re sharing your beautiful work out there and it has the possibility to change someone’s life whether it’s bringing them a little bit of joy or helping them feel emotions. you might discover things you never knew about yourself as well. 

Are there any times when you regret joining Tumblr? not really! as of recently i’ve seen a lot of changes with the platform and although it’s a big struggle, i can’t regret it because it’s brought me so much.
