the pacing of s2e2 is INSANE and there is no way there was not a significant amount of light novel on the cutting room floor. However I do think the resulting effect is incredibly funny because it comes off like Miyo has developed such a tolerance for Even Eviler Rich Women that all of Fuyu's nonsense just bounces off of her and she latches onto her as family regardless. Fuyu is metaphorically trying to scare off this puppy her son brought home because she's worried it will chew up her furniture but the puppy is a dangerous combination of hardened to mistreatment and emboldened by recent affection and will not leave for love nor money. Everyone else in the house loves the puppy and it will not stop staring up at her with its big sweet eyes. She's doomed.

My Happy Marriage Second Season Episode 3 Review - Gifted Communion
It feels as if the major villains of each story arc revolves around Miyo. First, we had the Saimori family, then it was Arata and Miyo’s grandfather and now it’s the Gifted Communion led by Naoshi Usui who seems to have a connection to her. There’s still a lot unknown about the Usuba lore, so it’s nice to finally get some plot progression and focus.
I’m happy that Miyo finally gets a chance to use her powers, even if she’s still rustic. She finally cures the first person who needed her help and hopefully, she’ll get better at using it without the need for Arata to be by her side. Speaking of Arata, I wonder if he was a factor to Fuyu finally warming up to her as he reveals his surname as Usuba and even tells her about how he works with the Prince. Someone of such status being related to Miyo would surely ease up someone like her who cares more about status and such. I can’t believe I actually like Arata for once.
Though, I do think that Fuyu’s change of heart was because of Miyo’s desire to help Kota and finally proved that she does have powers and is full of worth. Tadakiyo’s remarks about Fuyu being a tsundere was proven to be correct as she had a hard time expressing her true feelings to Miyo, but gave her a hair ribbon that she deems garbage, but it’s still a gift. It also seems that her sour relationship with Kiyoka is finally easing as she tells him to have Miyo be more confident and dignified the next time they visit, despite her telling Miyo she doesn’t want to see her again just a moment ago.
I liked seeing the father and son action sequence. I can see why Tadakiyo was the former head. The strength of his powers must have been passed down. I do like how father and son have a difference in what elements they prefer. Tadakiyo mainly uses ice while Kiyoka uses fire and lightning. It makes me wonder if Kiyoka can use ice or if Tadakiyo can use more elements. For a romantasy story, the story doesn’t skimp on the action sequence. Also, if you watch this anime dubbed, Tadakiyo is voiced by Jason Griffith. If you’re not familiar with him, he was the former voice actor of Sonic the Hedgehog and also voiced a lot of Pokemon and Yugioh characters like Cilan and Atticus Rhodes. It’s pretty crazy to hear someone whose voice I heard since childhood be in a recent anime.
The moments between Kiyoka and Miyo was so sweet. The two finally shared their first kiss! I just love how respectful Kiyoka is to Miyo. The two have an eight-year age gap, yet there is no such power imbalance between the two. Kiyoka treats Miyo as an equal and I love that. It’s adorable how Miyo actually thinks about it the next day.
What is with Naoshi and why is he calling Miyo is daughter? I assume it has to do something with Sumi. Maybe he was the person she was originally going to marry before being married off into the Saimori family? Usui is the branch family of the Usuba, so he’s basically a distant relative of Arata and Miyo. Sheesh, we just resolved the Kudou family drama and now we’re heading straight into the Usuba family drama. Naoshi is voiced by Yuya Uchida, who you might know as Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy XVI, Franken Stein from Soul Eater and Lord Orden from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. In the dub, he’s voiced by Kaiji Tang, who’s known for voicing characters like Jinshi from The Apothecary Diaries and Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen.
I do hope Goto is alright because that what he encountered could easily injure him severely. Please don’t let him die. What are your thoughts on this episode?

I have so many OC.
But since I can't draw I just make OC sheets.
One of them is Tobitaka Seiya step mom. And kudou Michiya best friend. Is it cause I want Tobitaka and Fuyuka to be like siblings? Yes
Anyway.
Oc:
Full Name: Himari Ayase
Nickname(s): Himi, Hippie (by Kudou),
Gender: Female
Age: 38
Birthday: April 25
Height: 178 cm (5’10”)
Occupation: Headmaster of the Blossoming Flowers Girls’ Home
Sexuality: Pansexual.
Appearance
Hair: Long, dark brown, and wavy; often tied in a loose bun or braid.
Eyes: Deep brown. She sometimes put in colourful contacts for fun.
Build: chubby and tall, with a graceful posture.
Style: Elegant and feminine mixed with frazzled English woman. Himari enjoys wearing subtle makeup. She wears big earrings, big necklaces.
Distinguishing Features: A small crescent moon-shaped birthmark on her left wrist and pierced ears. When she smiles she has visible dimples.
Personality
Core Traits: Quiet, nurturing, introspective, empathetic, and determined.
Strengths: Strong emotional intelligence, patience, and an unwavering sense of fairness. Himari's strictness comes from her genuine care for others, and she believes in creating structure to help her girls thrive.
Weaknesses: Can sometimes overthink decisions or struggle to express her own needs.
Hobbies: Playing the guitar (a remnant of her hippie days), writing poetry, gardening, and baking with the girls in the foster home.
Background
Early Life:
Himari grew up with Kudou Michiya’s as his childhood friend. They were inseparable, practically growing up as siblings due to their families’ close bond. While Kudou leaned toward discipline and sports, Himari embraced a freer spirit, exploring art and music. As a teenager, she became a self-proclaimed hippie, spending her youth playing guitar in parks, writing music, and championing causes like environmental protection and social justice. When they were in college, they met Ayaka (a loud gyaru and now a reporter) and Ryu (a big strong punk who now runs a bar)
Transition to Adulthood:
After a series of personal revelations and seeing the struggles of at-risk youth, Himari decided to dedicate her life to helping children. She gave up her transient lifestyle and worked toward opening a foster home for girls, Spring Haven Girls’ Home.
Meeting Tobitaka:
Tobitaka came to Spring Haven after his parents abandoned him. Whe she met him he was very unhappy with where he was since he was a trans boy (tho he didn't quite know it at the time) Himari took an immediate interest in the quiet yet defiant boy, recognizing a younger version of herself in him. She supported Tobitaka through his transition, ensuring he had access to therapy and resources, and encouraged him to channel his emotions into positive outlets like cooking and soccer. After a bit of fighting, she managed to transfer him to a sibling facility under the same name but for boys.
Relationships:
Kudou Michiya:
Despite their vastly different adult paths, Himari and Kudou remain close. Kudou often visits the orphanage and reconnecting with Himari over nostalgic moments from their youth. Their bond is a testament to unconditional friendship, though they occasionally bicker over their differing approaches to discipline.
Fuyuka Michiya
To Fuyuka, Haruka has always been a constant source of calm and wisdom in her life. She views her almost like an "Auntie," someone who’s not as strict as her dad Kudou but still someone she deeply respects. Himari's gentle demeanour and ability to balance compassion with authority fascinate Fuyuka. When she was litlle she used to visit her and their collage friends a lot with her father causing them to call her "Fuyu".
Tobitaka Seiya
For Tobitaka, Himari is a figure of immense respect and admiration. When he first arrived at the foster home, she was the one who welcomed him with open arms, treating him with kindness and dignity when he was still figuring out his identity as a trans boy. Unlike many adults in his life, Himari didn’t question him when he told her. He looks up to her not just because she’s kind but because she’s strong. Her ability to lead the foster home, care for so many girls, and still find time to play her guitar amazes him. Tobitaka sometimes wonders how she does it all, especially with her calm and collected attitude. He started calling her mom a few months after she adopted him officially.
Skills
Music: Himari is an exceptional guitarist, capable of both intricate solos and heartfelt melodies. Her music often soothes the girls in the foster home.
Leadership: She runs the orphange with a firm yet loving hand, earning the respect of her staff and the girls she fosters.
Counselling: Himari life experiences and natural empathy make her an excellent listener and advisor, particularly for LGBTQ+ youth.
Fun Facts
1. Himari still keeps her old guitar from her hippie days, adorned with colourful stickers and signatures from people she met on the road.
2. Her favourite song to play is "Here comes the sun" by the beatels which she often performs when the girls are feeling homesick or anxious.
3. Himari and Kudou have a running joke about who has the stricter teaching style, often challenging each other during soccer
4. Despite her love for structure, Himari secretly enjoys impulsive adventures, like midnight stargazing or impromptu picnics.
5. Himari instinctively cleans messes in her own house as well as other peoples. She can't handle dirty places.

Sidonia No Kishi

My Happy Marriage Episode 2 Review - Wicked Mother-In-Law
Before I start the review, I want to toot my own horn a bit. I have an X account where I also post links to my reviews on my blog. For my review of the previous episode, Miranda Parkin, the English voice actress of Miyo, liked my post! Does this mean she read my review? It feels like an honor for anyone involved in the anime to be reading my reviews! Another similar experience I had was getting an animator from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End to like one of my review posts. I’m a small blog, entirely one woman doing all the work, so it makes me feel happy to see people read my hard work in a way. It really motivates me to keep going and make Arum Journal and my repertoire as a writer grow. I’ll keep doing my absolute best!

This episode is practically a roller coaster of emotions. First, you get angry at Fuyu for being absolutely disrespectful to Miyo. Then, there’s all the stuff with Kiyoka finding out about a secret cult called the Gifted Communion that makes you on edge. The emotions tone down when the couple get a nice moment together but it doesn’t last long when trouble brews the next day. It really is the craziest roller coaster ride ever.
You know this is a fictional story when mothers disrespect Miyo. If Miyo were a real person, she’d be adored by mothers everywhere. However, this is fiction, hence why Miyo is written to be such a misfortune magnet when it comes to mothers. Congratulations, Arata, you’re no longer on top of my shit list because Fuyu is now the reigning champion. I do like seeing how much Miyo has grown since meeting Kiyoka because she’s standing her ground against the abuse she’s getting from her mother-in-law. Fuyu makes Miyo wear a maid outfit and have her clean the house in an attempt to dishearten her, but Fuyu needs to sit down and watch Season 1 to see why that won’t work. Girl has over a decade of cleaning experience and dealing with verbal abuse. Fuyu’s antics feel like child’s play to her. I do like that Miyo is more respected for her hard work this time around as the maids praise Miyo and hope that Fuyu will accept her one day. They’re sweet.
Though…if there is a positive I have to say about Fuyu, it’d be that she’s more layered than anyone in the Saimori family. Like, Fuyu is a b*tch because of her upbringing and desire to make the Kudou name great. However, her methods aren’t very good because it led to Kiyoka having a huge disdain towards women before meeting Miyo. She also seems to care a lot about her husband as she was surprised when he grabbed her hand before she could strike Miyo and that arguing with Tadakiyo caused her to be bedridden for a bit.
In Kiyoka’s side, he discovers a secret cult called the Gifted Communion. It was nice seeing him use his powers again. I also really liked the feeling of suspense whenever he was walking through that abandoned shack. The demon rat did scare me a little. Why was it so big? I also like how he’s constantly worried about Miyo whenever something bad happens. The moment the two shared was really nice. Let’s just hope Kiyoka doesn’t learn about what his mother did to Miyo because the Kudou house would be shrouded in fire like the Saimori house.
Things get intense when a man and his mother show up to the Kudou residence about them spotting a demon and what not. He then starts behaving oddly and Miyo believes that her powers could save him. While her powers are still risky to use without Arata nearby, she still delves in before being pulled out by him. It does seem like Fuyu isn’t aware that Miyo is an Usuba. Does Tadakiyo know and if he did, why didn’t he tell his wife?
I like that the plot instantly dives in without room for error. I honestly can’t help but to wonder what will happen next week. What do you think?

My Happy Marriage Season 2 Episode 1 Review - Keeping Up With The Kudous
You know, I’m glad I watched the OVA before I jumped into the second season because I would be so confused like why the heck Mr. Ugly Forehead Arata is eating breakfast with them. I also remembered what Takahito said to the pair in the OVA in that there would be more hardships for them in the future which is what Miyo’s dream is building up towards. There’s also a creepy man observing Miyo in the shadows, so there’s definitely a new antagonist looming about.
The main highlight of this episode is meeting Kiyoka’s parents who will later become Miyo’s in-laws. While Tadakiyo, the father, is friendly and doting towards Miyo, Fuyu, the mother, is anything but. What is with women hating on Miyo so much? First we had Miyo’s step mother and Kaya and now Fuyu. I get that there are obstacles in the couple’s path going forth, but we don’t really need a rehash of Season 1. Though, I do feel like Miyo isn’t as distraught as before as she’s still able to have her spirits up due to Kiyoka being there for her compared to the earlier parts of her life where she had no one. Fuyu is very stuck-up and snooty, but given how Tadakiyo acts towards her, it feels as if Tadakiyo isn’t as nice as he presents in a way? He doesn’t reprimand her behavior or even apologizes for it. Though, maybe Fuyu is just tsundere like her husband says? Who knows? All I know is that I don’t like her.
Wait, the mom’s name is Fuyu? Was this a part of the dream Miyo had? If you don’t know, Fuyu means winter in Japanese and Kiyoka was shown in a wintry setting in her dream. He apologized to her and then told her loved her. Kiyoka apologized to her about Fuyu’s behavior. Was Miyo’s dream foretelling her meeting with Fuyu in some way?
With how the episode ends with the oh-so scandalous “we’re in a room with one bed” trope, Kiyoka’s parents are going to be around for a few episodes and whatever is lurking will show itself too as the lady in the little souvenir shop mentioned about a strange person roaming about. I wonder how Miyo will deal with sleeping in a bed with Kiyoka as they’ve been sleeping separately for a while—in Japanese culture, married couples do sleep in separate beds and given that this is the Meiji era, that culture is probably instilled in Miyo’s surroundings hence why she’s super shy about sharing a bed with him.
I have to say that the animation and the voice acting have improved a lot since the last season. The scenery shown in this episode is gorgeous! I especially loved the little forest the two were walking through and how the sun was setting once they were chatting. You know the character design is getting better (not that it was ever bad) when you can see the similarities Kiyoka and Hazuki share with their parents but also the differences. Tadakiyo looks like Kiyoka but has the same eyes as Hazuki while Fuyu looks like Hazuki but has the same sharp eyes as Kiyoka, giving them a good mix-match of each parent. Miyo’s clothes also look more detailed and I find that nice! She’s definitely wearing different kimonos compared to before and much nicer ones at that too. I really like the dark blue one that she wore when she went shopping with Hazuki and Kiyoka. It compliments her pale skin.
The voice acting improved a lot because Reina Ueda is making Miyo sound more livelier than she was back in Season 1. Kaito Ishikawa returns as Kiyoka and his voice is still so nice to listen to, especially since I finished watching Dandadan last season where he voiced the crazy and energetic Jiji who’s the complete opposite of Kiyoka. Not only that, the voice casting cast increased with Tadakiyo being voiced by Ryotaro Okiayu and Fuyu voiced by Kikuko Inoue. This anime sure knows how to cast well.
I’m also curious with what’s going on with Arata’s side of the episode as he met up with the prince and is discussing things about the Usuba family. I honestly can’t wait to see what next week has to offer. What are your thoughts on the premiere of the second season?
