god the FUCKED UP amount of shit that went down the past 10 days i dont even know what happened on which day (assume furniture stealing + waystone stealing + innumerable mines are also taking place) 1. eggs show up dirty and dishevelled. they don't remember the previous day 2. eggs disappear. their accessories are left on their beds 3. a lot of havoc is wreaked (bad tears shit up + tubbo creates mega drills + random holes and mines???) 4. forever gets drugged by cucurucho (he is Happy with capital H now (he is also going MAD) 5. pac gets himself drugged to make an antidote (it works because pac is awesome and a genius) 6. phil comes back (election tower is lavacast) 7. capybaras??? spawn is fucked up 8. fed workers start fixing up spawn (tubbo names the blue-capped one Fred) 9. phil, bad and cellbit manage to trap forever and pac and give them the antidote (pac recovers by the next day + forever enters a coma) -> forever hallucinates cucurucho and tells them cucurucho said "the eggs ran away from something worse than the federation and the codes" 10. fred discretely communicates with tubbo (a book in a hidden chest) 11. the next day roier, charlie and tubbo are grouped up to find something (sewers in the wall + ladder up to missa's base + huge maze (cellbit found a map for this maze with attached binary reading A1)) 12. they find evil cucurucho (cucurucho but with black skin and red eyes and smile) leading them to a room with a roulette wheel (I-VIII) in its center with the eggs' accessories scattered around it, encased in barrier blocks 13. tubbo glitches in and spins the wheel (rolls a 5 i think) -> lava starts falling from the ceiling (the pendejo trio have to GTFO while avoiding lava and mobs) 14. maze is sealed and fed posters are put up along with a countdown (egg accessories are now missing from their beds) 15. countdown ends after the mexican independence day event -> half the server enters the maze as it opens up. they find an archive room where a story about 12 eggs in a similar maze is written in a book. 2 eggs live at the end of the story. 16. they return to the room with the roulette wheel but its no longer there -> only chayanne's floatie remains 17. when everyone goes back phil finds a book in his basement that tells him to drop everything and haul ass to some random coords near uppies in the form of a story about a crow 18. phil does so and is trapped in a birdhouse by cucurucho with (seemingly a duplicate of) chayanne's floatie and tallulah's beanie. 19. bagi joins the server (forever wakes up) -> the players group up at the dome and a roulette wheel (yes, same wheel) shows up and is spun, spinning a 2 -> everyone is teleported into a forest surrounded by a glass dome with puzzles to solve -> after they solve the puzzles they free bagi from an underground area where she had been with walter bob 20. today. IS THIS EVERYTHING? DID I GET EVERYTHING?
edit: at 15. they also found an old conversation between two people about the eggs, and at 3. im pretty sure etoiles killed another code and got not only the full code sword but also a book telling him to "PROTECT"

Why a Solid Wood Nightstand is Essential for Your Bedroom
Tumblr media
When it comes to bedroom decor, one element that is typically overlooked is the nightstand. It's easy to view it as just a place for your alarm clock or a glass of water, but the truth is, this piece can make or break the look and functionality of your bedroom. That's why we're talking today about why a solid wood nightstand is an essential addition to any bedroom. Keep reading to learn why!
Firstly, let's talk about durability and strength. Unlike cheaper materials that can easily be damaged or warped, solid wood has a sturdy, long-lasting quality that can withstand years of use. So if you're looking for a nightstand that will last for years to come, investing in one of our premium options is a smart choice, to say the least.
Secondly, these pieces add warmth and character to any bedroom. With natural beauty and unique grain patterns, solid wood looks rich and inviting, especially when it is stained or finished to highlight the textures. Just imagine waking up every morning to a beautiful, high-quality piece of bedroom furniture – it can be a small but significant way to add luxury to your daily life.
Thirdly, they are versatile in functionality and fit with many decor styles. Whether your bedroom is decorated in a modern, minimalist style or a Bohemian, eclectic look, you can find a something to suit your specific requirements. Wood can be stained to match the overall color scheme or left natural for a more rustic vibe. With so much customization available, you're sure to find the perfect solid wood nightstand for your bedroom.
Fourthly, our nightstands provide excellent storage space beyond just the tabletop. With easy-to-access drawers and shelves, you can keep your essential bedside items like books, glasses, phone chargers, and more organized and within reach. Instead of cluttering up your floor space, they allow you to store everything in one convenient spot.
Finally, it is an environmentally friendly choice. Unlike inferior materials that must be replaced frequently, solid wood is built to last for generations. Plus, many manufacturers source their wood from sustainably managed forests, meaning that choosing from our selection could even potentially have a positive effect on the planet, too.
In conclusion, a solid wood nightstand is far from a frivolous or unnecessary bedroom accessory. In fact, it's an essential piece of furniture that can transform the look and functionality of your bedroom. By selecting a durable, warm, versatile, functional, and environmentally friendly piece from our newest collection (linked in this post), you will also create a sanctuary for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation in your home. What are you waiting for? Start shopping for your perfect piece today!

The Miys, Ch. 121
Insert Winter Holiday is here, again!
I’m queuing this ahead of time, and I originally had a really cute message about the end of the year. Then, I realized what year this is and said “Yeah, nope. Not jinxing it, will not have the actual end of the world be my fault.”
I am going to leave it at this: thank you to @baelpenrose, @raven-fae, and @charlylimph-blog for all your help with this story in 2020. Thank you to every single one of you who bombed by notes this year when you found The Miys. Thank you @janeshadow for talking me into getting off my rump and making the story easier to navigate.
Standing to my feet after putting the last dish in the oven, I couldn’t help but smile as I looked around my quarters. Despite the fact that we had forgone a tree this year for Insert Winter Holiday, there was a definite festive feeling as everyone packed themselves in as much as possible. Derek had clearly found my lights again, as they circled every public space in my quarters, including the kitchen.  Furniture was pushed as far against the walls as possible, and everyone had been advised to bring their own cushion to sit on.
In the two celebrations since waking up on the Ark, dinner and gifts had largely been a smaller, more typical dinner-style affair.  However, without my noticing, my family had grown exponentially since then, and this year finger foods passed from hand to hand as everyone relaxed and chatted. Charly, Tyche, and I took turns in the kitchen, with Hannah waving us all three to sit while she checked on something in the oven so that we could rest and enjoy ourselves, too.
“Where’s Derek?” Charly asked as she approached me to take her shift watching the last batch of food bake.
“He isn’t great with crowds, so he and Sam already came for lunch and to exchange gifts,” I explained, stroking the scarf they had given me. “They already left and took Mac with them.”
“Aww, they’re hogging the Christmas Cat… No fair!” she pouted comically.
“Eh, Mac’s not a fan of crowds either. Besides, I’m pretty sure someone gave him cheese - again - so I’d rather the little gas bomb not be here tonight.”
“Fair enough,” she laughed before popping me with a tea towel. “Go! Your turn to socialize and cuddle!”
I held up my hands in defeat before carefully picking my way around people. Coffey was gracious enough to take my hand and guide me around him and over to where Conor and Maverick were guarding the astonishingly huge pile of gifts. Arthur was nearby, arguing with Conor and trying to drag Simon into it every chance he could. The topic sounded like a rehash of the one regarding fortifications, only this time it was Fortification Redux: The Plant Edition. “We’ve already confirmed there are no megafauna on Von!” Arthur exclaimed wearily. “Not even vegetarians. Why would we need fortifications?”
I could tell Conor was just provoking him when he lazily waved a hand. “It’s psychological, to make people feel safe. Besides, agriculturally, it serves as double duty.”
“He has a point,” Simon conceded, wincing when Arthur turned a playful squint his direction. “He does!”
“Whatever,” Arthur surrendered with a mock-sulk. “Sophia…”
“You know where I stand on this argument, don’t even try it,” I laughed as I dropped in between my partners.
“You wound me! I was going to offer to whip up some goulash, but now I don’t think I will since someone thinks she should accuse me of such atrocious crimes.”
I rolled my eyes at his theatrics. “Whip up whatever you want, I’m done with kitchen duty, and so is Tyche. Charly’s on her last lap.”
“I sincerely doubt that,” Maverick laughed, catching Coffey’s careful eye on his beloved bundle of energy.
Arthur practically leapt to his feet. “That decides it. I am so offended by Sophia’s accusations that I am going to share the kitchen with Miss Chaos Incarnate and leave you all to wonder what wound up in the food.”
Tyche tipped her head back to scowl at him from where she was draped across Antoine’s lap. “If I find a single eyeball…”
Muttering something suspiciously close to “Dammit”, Arthur prowled across the room as though the entire floor wasn’t draped in legs and people.
I opened my mouth to whine about how he could do that, only to be cut off when a piece of pastry was stuffed in my mouth. Grievances forgotten, my eyebrows shot up as I chewed. “Tyche! When did you make donuts!?”
“It may have involved time travel,” she waggled her fingers at me. “But no blood magic or ritual sacrifices, swear.”
I could see Antoine shake his head before responding over his shoulder. “She made them this morning.”
“Spoilsport.”
“Travelling forward through time is still time travel, mon coeur.” He tapped the tip of her nose with one finger, eliciting an expression from her that promised swift and painful retribution.
A soft rustle of fabric caught my attention, and I turned to see a pile of purple and jade-green silk land beside me before a long, dark braid came into view. “The donuts are quite delightful,” Parvati declared as she yanked Xiomara down beside her in a graceless heap. Grabbing a dark brown one from the plate, she popped it in her lover’s mouth just as Xiomara was about to complain. “That one is a Black Forest, I believe. You’ll love it.”
“Careful on those,” Conor warned. “I think they’re half booze.”
“I only soaked the cherries in kirsch,” Tyche corrected. “Not the whole thing.”
“So yeah, half booze,” I corrected.
Giving her most fearsome scowl, Xio snatched the rest of the Black Forest donuts off the plate and balanced them in one hand.
A squeal of laughter interrupted our shenanigans, and we whipped our heads around in time to see Hannah holding a plate of mini-Wellingtons over her head without even looking, while Charly struggled to get up from where she was sprawled across both the other woman’s lap and Coffey’s.  Zach stared at Hannah like he just saw his first sunset, and Maverick snorted behind me.
“He is such a goner over her,” I heard him say, followed by a light smack.
“Because I have certainly never seen you look at Conor or Sophia in such a way,” Parvati added lightly. “And obviously not when Conor is baby-talking to the plants around the ship, or when Sophia is so busy working she will eat whatever is handed to her.”
He buried his face in the back of my hair before squeaking. “Nope. Never!”
I twisted around so I could see them both. “Wait. When did this happen?”
“Three times a week, in your office,” Tyche interjected in a bored tone. “And pretty religiously.”
I felt my face heat up. “Does everyone know about this except me.”
Xiomara nodded furiously, cheeks plumped out and a suspicious number of donuts missing from the pile in her hand. Parvati shook her head at the antics and smiled gently. “Someone needs to make sure you eat… He brings you gyoza, and you don’t even notice. It’s quite adorable.”
Conor laughed. “She’s got you there, love.”
Eyes flashed as four heads snapped around to him. “Oh, don’t think you’re off the hook, mister!” Charly scolded at him. “He does the same thing to you. Those little pasties you like so much, with the potato and onion.”
Maverick groaned his embarrassment into my shoulder, while Conor’s smile faltered. “I would remember that,” he insisted.
“Not even once,” Charly confirmed.
Rather than being embarrassed, Conor just laughed again and reached to drag us both over to him. “I don’t know how someone so tall can be so sneaky, but I won’t argue.”
That moment was when Arthur decided to return, a trail of slurps in his wake as he handed out goulash. “No eyeballs,” he sighed dejectedly as he handed one to Tyche.
“You guys are no fun,” Charly muttered as she took her own bowl.
Poor Simon eyed the offering hesitantly. Arthur gently wiggled the bowl at him. “I promise, you’ll like it.”
Carefully, as though it would explode at any moment, Simon took the dish and managed a small bite.  After a few seconds - presumably to confirm there was no trick - he chewed and immediately started bolting it down at a rapid pace. “I thought it would be spicier,” he admitted as he snaked a hand out to grab another.
“That would be the paprika.  Really red, not really spicy.”
Maverick laughed as he took a bowl, but poked it with his fork before wrinkling his nose. “Sorry, Arthur, not happening.” No sooner had the words left his mouth than Simon’s hand darted out again, eliciting laughter from everyone.
Arthur shrugged, well aware of Maverick’s food aversions by this point. “It’s not for everyone. You keep your tofu, I’ll keep my goulash.”
Not long after that, the last of the food was gone and dishes were cleared. Hot drinks were handed out by Zach and Conor, and then it was finally time to exchange gifts. Baked goods from Tyche made the rounds, along with beautiful accessories from Parvati, carefully curated books from Alistair, plants from Conor and Sam, and more.
At one point, Arthur was staring at his gift from Charly like it would bite him. “It’s… a pen?”
She nodded, producing a small jar of black ink from somewhere. “A fountain pen, with black India ink. I made them both myself.”
Arching an eyebrow, he brought the pen closer to examine the engravings. “An otter… with a sword?”
“With a saber,” she corrected. “I tried to make it look like yours, but do you know how hard you make it to get a good look at that thing!?”
“It’s literally on display in my office when I’m not practicing with it.”
“And how am I supposed to get in there when you aren’t? You booby-trapped the door!”
“Wonder why….” he mused with a small smile. “This is very intricate,” he finally admitted.
“Consider it an apology for the other ones.”
“Oh!” I realized.  “Give me just a second, everyone.”  Scrambling, and with nowhere near Arthur or Tyche’s grace, I managed to make it to our bedroom to grab an armful of boxes. Once I was back at the doorway, I peeked around the stack and smiled. “These are from Derek, with a little bit of help from Hannah.”  Checking names, I distributed the boxes before making my way back to my spot.
“This is… It’s so soft!” Parvati exclaimed. “And the colors are beautiful!”
I smiled as I rubbed the scarf I wore. “He wanted to show his appreciation for how welcome he feels, even if he was overwhelmed at the idea of being here.”
Hannah nodded as she brushed her scarf against her cheek. “We worked on these for months, but I didn’t realize he found time to make one for me… All the colors and patterns are different for each person, by the way. They’re meant to show us how he thinks of us.”
Conor held up the green and orange fabric that his box revealed. “I love it, but I’m confused.”
She rolled her eyes, and tapped her own scarf. “This goldish-brown is my eyes, and this olive green are the clothes I usually wear.”
Coffey’s laughter rang through the room as he unfolded his to see a pattern like Neapolitan ice cream: Rich brown, bright pink, with white swirled throughout. “I think he nailed it.”
Antoine’s head tilted until it almost met his shoulder. “Our eyes… Every single scarf has the color of our eyes in it.  That must have been so hard for him to do.” I could see what he meant - Derek did not look people in the eyes, as a rule.
“He wants us to know that he sees us, and that he likes that we see him,” Zach shrugged. When we all stared at him, he just blinked. “What? You don’t work with him as much as I do without figuring those things out.”
Without exception, everyone wrapped their gifts from Derek around themselves before the next set of gifts were handed out. “These are from me,” Arthur explained. “Hopefully I got it right.”
Like Alistair, Arthur had gifted everyone a book, but rather than a book that furthered a current interest, he had sought out historical insights into extremely niche topics for everyone. Some made pretty obvious sense - a book on the historical events leading to and the impacts of the Harlem Renaissance for me, a book on the evolution of law in various cultures for Xiomara - but some were far less obvious.
“A book on Roman law?” Charly asked, confused.
He reached over and tapped on the cover. “Specifically, this is about how much of Roman law was the result of litigation, with some pretty hysterical results. I think you’ll get a huge kick out of it.”
She cracked the book open to a random page and looked at it. “If you weren’t home when you were subpoenaed as a witness, you didn’t have to testify, but if you didn’t the person could stand outside your house and - “ she snorted before continuing in a fit of giggles. “Yell at you… for no more than three…. Three hours a day, three days a week - “ another snort “for up to a year!” She wiped a tear from her eye and surrendered to her giggles. “Oh that’s amazing! Thank you!”
Charly wasn’t the only one laughing. Even Xiomara was snickering. “That is an incredibly specific law.”
“Absurd laws are best laws,” he shrugged.
Eventually, all the gifts were distributed, but nobody was in a rush to leave. Instead, we lounged around, quietly catching up and talking about our plans for the upcoming ‘year’. At some point, Insert Winter Holiday had, unanimously and without fanfare, become the end of the year celebration on the Ark, even as far as the Council made plans. With that in mind, we were taking a chance to celebrate our continued survival for yet another cycle, and tried to look forward with optimism toward the next one.
I just let the feelings sink into me, enjoying the presence of the people who moved into my life.  Had I been asked fifteen years ago where I saw myself in the future, ‘on a spaceship, as the last of the human race, about to colonize another world’ would have been nowhere on that list.  But here I was, with a larger family than I had ever dreamed.
Despite all that we had been through, I couldn’t wait to see what the future would bring.
(A/N: Keep your eyes out for an announcement on New Year’s Eve!)

12. Claire
She had never felt so happy to wake up with the sunlight hitting at her face the way it did that morning. They didn't dare to leave the storage house until the first rays of light hadn't come out from the horizon. In part, because they had wanted a little more rest and in part because they didn't want to risk the chance of meeting another of those horrible creatures.
With the light, they could finally see what was inside the storage room, and after checking the contents of the boxes, they had come across some supplies that included more weapons, ammo, a first aid kit, and flashlights. The weaponry was quite old, and Claire knew they probably weren't as fancy as the ones Leon usually used, but it was better than nothing. They also found some cans of food and water that weren't yet due in the boxes. It wasn't a fancy meal, but the canned fruits provided the needed carbohydrates that their bodies required for energy. Claire had instantly felt a little more energetic after the small and humble meal, and she had to admit that compared to other times, she appreciated the locals for storing the food in that place. She would have thanked them if they hadn't turned into parasite controlled zombies, of course.
With their new gear, stock, and a full stomach, the duo had started their walk to the mysterious manor. So far, the way had been calm: only interrupted by a couple of the unfriendly locals that they defeated without problems.
Claire noticed that the closer they got to the manor, the quieter the forest became. Somehow that made her uncomfortable. The lack of sound was antinatural, and maybe it was her paranoia, but she felt observed, and she was half expecting another sudden monster to jump over them. She could tell Leon's thoughts weren't too far from her own as the man moved stealthily and alert at all times.
Nobody would think that, some years ago, this same man was a scared rookie cop trying to survive a city filled with zombies.
The thought of how much he had grown and become better drew a smile on Claire's face.
Just what are you feeling so proud about when this is all a mess?
She often felt proud of others, even if it wasn't something she was supposed to do. She was proud of her brother. Like hell, how wouldn't she? The man had saved many lives in the last few years. She was also proud of Moira; the girl had gotten over her fear of guns and trained under her father's eye. She was also proud of Natalia. She had a normal life now, making it through all the horrors of her past. Claire was very proud of Sherry. She had heard from Chris that the girl had become an agent like Leon, and even though Claire would have wished for the girl to live a quiet life, she respected her decision. Of course, she was proud of Leon's successful career as an agent.
"There it is." Leon's voice broke into her thoughts, and Claire stopped dryly, staring at the manor ahead, "It certainly gives me bad vibes..."
An unpleasant flashback ran through her head as she remembered the Ashford's Residence, but as she watched the house more carefully, she realized that the place was different. This house looked older, and the gray walls, covered by ivy and moss. More than a manor, it looked more like a castle. A quick scan around convinced them that there was no one around the area.
"Guess our friends from Neo-Umbrella didn't wait for us..." Leon whispered.
"Well, knowing their sense of hospitality, they probably left some of their pets behind to receive us, though."
"Most likely. That sounds like something terrorists would do," Leon sighed, "We'll have to take a look and find out. I think the thing jamming the sign of my phone is in there. If we can deactivate it, I can contact Hunnigan, and maybe, we can figure out something about what they were doing in here."
"All right, let's take a look. What could go wrong, right?"
A lot of things. The annoying little voice in her head muttered.
The duo made their way to the house with extreme caution. The place seemed deserted. The only evidence of people ever being in there was the mess inside: furniture was turned over or broken, papers scattered all over the floor along with other decor accessories. Claire found bloodstains in some of the walls, and she shuddered. Maybe their "friends" hadn't left after all, but something had gotten them before they arrived.
"Now, this looks ominous. Why are there so many papers in here?"
"They seem like medical records, but the papers are too dirty to read them," she said, picking some of the scattered sheets. The pages looked blurred with humidity, and some had red stains that covered half of the text.
"Knowing these guys, there's probably an electronic record somewhere. We need to find a computer." Leon replied, looking around the rooms with his gun raised, "There are signs of struggle. I guess they didn't leave on good terms…"
That if they had made it out alive.
"There's too much blood. Do you think one of their pets went through havoc?"
"Most likely, maybe it was the one that attacked us last night."
Claire picked a folder that was over a table. The yellowish surface had dried stains of blood, but she ignored it and flipped through its contents. Her face tensed as her eyes traveled over the printed letters.
"They were making a new virus, " she said with anger, "These people don't ever learn that you shouldn't mess up with nature."
"Any idea of what sort of virus that is?"
"No...this seems more like genetic blueprints," Claire replied, "RNA virus sequences and possible recombinations with other viral agents. I'm taking these. it might be useful later. I can look into it when we get back to TerraSave.."
"Didn't know you had a liking for this sort of mad scientist stuff. Didn't picture you like a science girl..."
"You know, I did finish college before I joined TerraSave," Claire laughed.
"So I heard, but I never asked what you majored in, now that I think about it."
"Oh, so you didn't check my background?" Claire replied, surprised.
"I don't do that with friends. It's easier to ask, so what did you major in?"
"Biology and life sciences. Did a specialization in virology after joining TerraSave," she replied, checking another pile of folders, "I never thought I'd get so much into viruses. You would be amazed by how many outbreaks TerraSave attends, and for worse or better, not all of them involve zombies. Going into virology sounded reasonable, logical, and useful. "
Claire's crescent interest in viruses had to lead to her choosing a virology specialization. She had thought that it would come in handy while working in TerraSave. The organization was founded as a countermeasure to terrorist attacks. However, as time went by, TerraSave began attending other cases, including viral outbreaks in affected zones and as they worked with WHO. As an active agent at the time, Claire had participated in many operatives. That made her interested in the subject. After thirteen years of working in the organization, Claire was a pretty respectable professional. She wasn't as prodigy as Saya or Rebecca, but her observations and criticisms were valuable, and she had permission to work on her own projects.
"Never pictured you like a bookworm, but it seems I was mistaken."
"Another con on my side, I guess. Relationship wise..."
"I doubt it. Nothing wrong with a smart woman. I find it much more appealing. So, does your scientific vision give you a lead to what we have here?"
"Unfortunately, nothing clear. There's a lot of things you can do with genomes and some genetic engineering. I am not a biosynthetic engineer, but this looks like design proposals? We have someone in HQ who could see through it or maybe in B.S.A.A. I want to look at the digital records; if we are lucky, there might be something left in there. What about your signal jam?"
"I think I might have found the cause. Up there in the tower, there seems to be an antenna of some 's a good lead..."
"Guess we found our next stop. Let's go. I've got the feeling that I don't want to be around when the night falls."
"Always trust a female's sixth sense."
Claire followed Leon through the house. The absence of hostiles was welcome, but at the same time made her wonder what could have happened to them. They found more papers on their way, but nothing that could give them a clue of what had taken place in that place. After a while, they finally arrived at the tower.
The room seemed to be the security command center as there were several screens and computers. Leon got himself busy as he started to work on the antenna right away. Without much else to do, Claire decided to take a look at the server and see if she could get her hands on any interesting data while Leon tried to fix his communication line.
Well, let's see what you kept in here.
Claire began typing. She wasn't a techie like Wallace, so her skills as a hacker were terrible, but to her surprise, the security around the server was much laxer than she would have imagined. Or maybe she was too used to her overestimated security system in TerraSave.
Sadly, the computers had no access to the research datalog. However, it gave Claire information about the facility, and just as expected, there was a large underground structure underneath the mansion; the security system provided a clean 3D blueprint of the facility, showing research rooms, animal essays rooms, and laboratories. Everything pinpointed on the screen.
What the hell were they researching here?
Claire checked the security protocols, which seemed typical procedures designed for facilities handling potentially pandemic agents. She was familiar to them as a few years before she had adapted to those same protocols to propose an effective plan of contention in case of bioterrorist attacks. There was nothing that could be useful to find out what she wanted, but she did find something that caught her attention.
Damn, if only Wallace were here. He could probably hack into the central system and get me that information.
"I think I got it." Leon's voice made her look away from the screen, "I have the signal back. I'll try to contact Hunningan."
"That's great news…!"
"What about you? Did you find anything?"
"No, and yes. I managed to hack into the security system, but the servers aren't linked, so I have no access to research data from here. I did get a nice blueprint of the facility, though. Just look at this, the main research area is right underneath us, which is not surprising at all. I also checked the security protocols, and from that, I can say they were doing in vivo essays. I found something alarming and unexpected."
"How come?"
"They have a viral repository here. It is curious because, with the T-virus, C-virus, and all those new strains that Umbrella had been spreading, most bioterrorists had dropped the use of traditional pathogenic weapons."
"By traditional you mean…?"
"Regular viral agents: influenza, Nipah Virus, chickenpox, ebola… Ring a bell? They have a bacteria stock, too. Anthrax, Tuberculosis, MRSA," she said, scrolling down the screen, " Basically Level 3 and 4 pathogens. Just what the hell were they doing here?"
" If you don't know, neither do I. Can you get the information from here?"
"Sorry to disappoint you, but I am a virologist, not a hacker. The information should have a back up in the central server, but I am not skilled enough to break through their encryption to get it. We would need a vicious hacker for that, and the only one I know is somewhere in Hughesville."
"So, in other words, if we want that data, we'll need to go down there."
"Very sharp, Kennedy."
"Well, I guess we should bring some company down there," Leon commented, pulling his mobile to his ear. "Hunnigan… I need a favor."

It really feels like we are living in the middle of the forest,’ says Léo. Photo – Nikole Ramsay for The Design Files. Styling – Annie Portelli.
Interior designer Léo Terrando purchased this incredible Bells Beach house (on Victoria’s Surf Coast) 10 years ago, which he shares with partner Jessica Watts.
Believed to have been designed by acclaimed architect Kevin Borland in 1975, the house is characterised by vaulted timber ceilings that bring warmth and a distinctly eclectic character to its otherwise beachy feel.
‘The structural timber is entirely exposed and it follows the origami shape of the house, which means that the lighting – either natural or artificial – creates so many different contrasts and shadows,’ Léo says.
Léo was taken with the property’s unique design, as well as its awe-inspiring location set back from famous Bells Beach. ‘I love the fact that the house is away from everything,’ he says. ‘Being able to see the ocean from the house as well as hearing all the birds living in the area is truly magical.’
Not interested in stripping the home of its original character, Léo has undertaken only modest renovations over the past decade. ‘Internally I removed some walls in the upstairs bedroom and got rid of the carpet,’ he says.’
Other updates have been cosmetic only, such as updating the lighting fixtures throughout the home. ‘The lighting is so important for me, I have brought in so many different styles and types of lights, lamps, shades, from all different designers and eras,’ Léo says.
The home has also been painted inside and out, in colours including Dulux Milton Moon (in the living and dining room) with Dulux Klute, Dulux Luck and Dulux Vivid White in the kitchen and skirtings throughout.
The house has been a challenge to furnish due to its many windows – over 50 in total! To overcome this, and to balance out the extensive timber panelling, Léo has styled the space with an eclectic mix of free-standing furniture, and large indoor plants. Most of the furniture and accessories are 1960s and ‘70s Italian pieces, and alongside these are personal items that show off the couple’s personality, such as surfboards and bold, abstract artwork.
Overall this home feels effortlessly cool, relaxed and unpretentious – just like its Bells Beach location. Léo says, ‘Waking up to kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, and echidnas… It really feels like we are living in the middle of the forest.’ Living the dream!

Bedroom colour schemes to brighten and lift your home – from serene green to crisp white and bold combinations
Want to wake up a sleepy bedroom scheme with some bold colour? Let us inspire you with these colourful bedroom ideas. There are bright bursts of block colour, vibrant patterns, hushed tones and serene shades.
Choosing a bedroom colour scheme is important when deciding how you want your personal bolthole to make you feel. This may be reflecting a love of colour, going for a new trend you want to tap into, or lifting soothing whites and neutrals with a new shade.
Whichever the case, we have a bedroom colour scheme to inspire you.
Want more bedroom decorating inspiration? Grey bedroom ideas – from the super glam to the ultra modern
1. Set the scene with a deep blue-green
If your design eye is naturally drawn to a neutral palette for the bedroom, shake things up a little with a shot of glorious blue-green. Use an elegant, rich shade of forest green or teal on the walls in your bedroom to instantly invigorate the space. While the colour is uplifting, it’s not bright so it still has the power to warm up the space and create a cosy, cocoon-like feel.
Pairing rich wooden furniture adds a further touch of nature, which again has a calming feel.  If you don’t want to commit to all-over colour, consider breaking it up with foolproof white accessories and soft furnishings, such as this crisp white bed linen – a safe and versatile option. Dusky pink is a stunning accent colour to add a pretty edge to the scheme.
2. Soften the mood with pale green
‘When we are feeling stressed (increasingly so, in these busy and chaotic times), we need to completely reduce the visual noise,’ says Dulux’s Creative Director Marianne Shillingford. She suggests using tranquil colours, such as Dulux’s Colour of the Year Tranquil Dawn, seen here, that ‘melt the walls away and reconnect us with nature.’
This shade could well be the key to a better night’s sleep.
3. Stick to sophisticated charcoal grey
Stick to a tried-and-tested palette. The grey-on-grey trend shows no sign of fading. Explore the many depths of this colour palette by layering tones to create a scheme that looks cohesive and considered. Use grey in both its palest and deepest incarnations to create a rich, contrasting look that is harmonious and co-ordinated. Add a welcome splash of colour with bright pink and white bedding.
4. Create a sunny scheme with mellow yellow
Awaken the senses. Paint your bedroom in yellow if you want a scheme that is full of sunny, positive vibes. Give any bedroom a bright, welcoming feel with uplifting, mood-boosting primrose. Ideally, it should remind you of sunny days. Yellow and grey are a great combination and work really well together.
As yellow inspires clear thinking, it’s also a great colour for a study area if you have space to add a desk. Improve definition with touches of crisp white and introduce pattern in the form of geometrics and chevrons for a sharp, contemporary finish. Hexagon boxes make a break from traditional shelving and have been papered inside for a decorative effect.
5. Make an impact punchy yellow and grey
Let the joyous tones of yellow really sing, when used as an accent shade for muted grey. to take the colour scheme one step further than just accessories and bedding try painting a feature wall or fire-surround.
6. Add alluring tones of teal
Chose a teal paint as the base colour to make your space feel sumptuous. Painting cupboards, wardrobes or a fire surround in the same shade will make them disappear, while a headboard in a contrasting colour will make a real style statement. A mix of plain and patterned bed linen gives the bed a fashionable layered look.
More teal to tempt: Teal bedroom ideas – drift off in a snug yet stylish green-blue sanctuary
7. Keep it simple in white with colourful accessories
White is a classic, calming colour for bedrooms. But simple doesn’t have to mean boring. To keep a bedroom feeling peaceful white walls and a natural wood floor, accessorised with tones of green and luscious prints will inject interest. The neutral base also means you can mix things up with different textiles and bed linen, depending on the season. An all-white neutral base allows you to change the accent colour as your tastes may change.

8. Go for regal mix of plum and gold
Let the Midas touch take over with golden furniture, fabrics and wallpapers. Give a decadent metallic scheme a period feel with an Art Deco-inspired dressing table, cleverly paired with a contemporary mirror in a similar finish. Create a beautiful contrast with pops of plum, as seen on the bedding and accessories. This will really help to lift the scheme and introduce an element of character and personality that befits a disco diva.
9. Dare to be different with a dark navy colour palette
Give your bedroom a fresh, timeless vibe with a cool, calm and collected blue and white palette. Who says you can’t use bold colours in country bedrooms? If you’re a true fan of blue, you’ll love this striking bedroom. Use indigo and navy blue as if they were neutrals and you will find you can combine them with just about any colour. Add in bold accessories and daring patterns without a second thought.
If you want a calming feel to your bedroom colour scheme, then the nautical shades of blue and white complement each other beautifully. Choose subtly striped wallpaper for this coastal living room theme, teamed with white bed linen and a navy wool throw. Plump white pillows overlaid by cushions in contrasting shades of navy blue follow the coastal theme through. Alternatively go for all white bedlinen and accessories, experiment with fabrics and textures introducing embroidered bed linen, silk cushions and lace wallpaper.
10. Be bold with orange
Create an earthy country scheme with a rusty orange colour. Combine it with cushions that feature a similar shade in their patterns. Leather accessories and wooden furniture are ideal partners for this woodland-inspired bedroom and create a vintage vibe. To stop the look becoming too dark, floors have been painted white and the curtains kept light – we love the supremely cute stag design.
Alternatively, create order in the room with tailor-made storage and streamline shelving for essentials to avoid clutter. And if you enjoy the look and feel of natural wood, a bed with an oversized wooden headboard will look really effective. Mix up walnut, beech and birch with natural cotton bedlinen in shades of taupe and white, and finish the look with sisal and woven rugs for a wonderfully natural look.
11. Play with vibrant combinations
Add some bold colour to your bedroom to spruce it up a bit. It’s not just about splashing some colour in your bedroom, it’s how you use it that counts. Use this room as your inspiration and use a striking but unexpected and imaginative combination of yellow and pink to create an intense scheme that looks anything but dull. Set it against a white backdrop so the daring palette breathes life into a neutral scheme.
12. Rethink pink
Create a sophisticated boudoir with a grown-up shade of pink. Delicate nude pink is an elegant hue that’s perfect for a romantic feel. Its underlying beige tone prevents it being overly girly – make it modern by teaming it with fresh white on the furniture and walls. Wide stripes on the wall add visual impact and also help to keep the balance of colour just right so that it’s virtually half white and half pink throughout the room. Hold back on the bold pattern, but add subtle texture with a Jacquard bedspread and oversized buttoned headboard for an indulgent, luxurious feel. Copper is a great complement to blush pink, as the cool tripod lamp shows. A clear chandelier adds to the glamour, without interrupting the colour scheme.
13. Paint in purple
After purple bedroom ideas? This isn’t Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2018 for no reason! Cosy up with dusky shades of heather and grey. Soothing shades like these are perfect if you want a space to feel warm and relaxing. Let a vintage-style floral print be the starting point for your colour scheme. The purple background colour of the duvet is the strongest shade used in the room – don’t overuse it or the effect will be too garish.
Take your other colours from the floral print, with its muted shades of heather, lilac, grey and soft beige, and use these for walls, flooring and accessories: heather and grey painted walls, a lilac throw on the bed and soft beige carpet and chair. Glass lamps hung low each side of the bed create subdued pools of light – perfect for a sleep-inducing scheme.
READ: Create a blissful scheme with these punchy purple bedroom ideas
14. Work with warm brown tones
Wood isn’t just for rustic rooms. This chic bedroom combines polished walnut, oak and birch with natural linens, textured woollens, soft grey walls and sisal flooring for a grown-up, contemporary feel. Have an oversized headboard made in walnut veneer to anchor the scheme. There are clever concealed shelves behind the front panel to hide clutter.
Layer the bed with natural linen bedding, knitted throws and tactile cushions so that it looks inviting and feels cosy. Mix wood finishes such as oak and birch for bedroom furniture and accessories – mid-toned woods like these work naturally together.
15. Wow with all-white
Simple but oh-so sophisticated, an all-white bedroom scheme like this just oozes glamour. Make an oversized lace-pattern wallpaper the starting point for the room. With a barely-there paper you can be bold with pattern – the bigger the better. Add a supersized headboard made from MDF painted glossy white for maximum shine. Attach floating shelves as bedside tables and add low-hung pendants to minimise clutter. All-white bed linen is a must for this look – just layer it up with pillowcases, cushions and throws with lace or crochet details. Different textures are the key to making the scheme three-dimensional rather than flat.
16. Go for a gorgeous grey
Turn your bedroom into a luxurious retreat with a sophisticated palette of pewter and platinum. While the look is ultra-glamorous, the effect is easy to achieve if you keep to similar tones throughout the room. Mix shades and tints of the same colour, from dull pewter to polished platinum. Start with a statement bed, like this upholstered sleigh-style bed in a plush pewter velvet. A glass chandelier hung low over the bed helps to grab the attention, and will glisten and sparkle against all the metallic tones around the room. Carry on the luxe theme, with metallic wallpaper panels either side of the bed. Hang just one drop behind each bedside table, so even if it’s a pricey paper, you can get the luxe effect without spending a fortune.
17. Rough up the edges with coral
Image credit: Rough up the edges
Colour doesn’t have to cover the whole wall if you don’t want it to. Paint half way up for a slightly ‘undone’ approach to decorating that works surprisingly well. If it’s the artist’s studio type vibe that you’re going for, try a smudgy sponge effect between the two colours, rather than a perfectly straight line.
18. Try subtle colour injections
Clad walls in wood as a warm and rustic alternative to white paint. It’s not a colour as such, but it adds a lot of interest to a scheme – and let’s face it, not everyone wants to experiment with the super-brights. Here, colour hits are provided by the throw and cushion. Plants are great for brightening, too, adding beautiful greenery to this natural-looking space.
19. Play with colours and scale
The bright and bold botanical mural is clearly the main focus of this rather snazzy bedroom, but it’s the eye-popping accessories that take if from flouncy to fabulous quicker than you can say ‘switch the lamp on please’! A black metal bedstead adds a masculine touch that is the perfect balance to all the florals.
20. Match your blooms
Fancy a fresh new look in the bedroom for spring? Then why not say it with flowers? The zesty yellow floral wallpaper is the star of the show in this bedroom. Teaming it with chic shades of grey, tones the whole scheme down and prevents the paper being overpowering. Keep other patterns to a minimum and go small-scale rather than large, such as the grey damask pillowcases and herringone throw. Balance the bold walls with simple, streamlined furniture, like the tailored headboard, plain side tables and upholstered ottoman.

Made in India: How Covid-19 is changing the luxe living room
Tumblr media
A pop chair, covered in brass ‘fur’ and nautical resin ‘wood grains’, was to be one of the highlights of Scarlet Splendour’s newest collection — a collaboration with Italian designer Marcantonio, the man behind some of Seletti’s and Qeeboo’s iconic designs. The line didn’t get its due with Milan’s popular annual furniture fair, Salone del Mobile, getting cancelled. But Ashish Bajoria, co-founder of the Kolkata-based luxury brand, isn’t despondent; he’s actually in high spirits. “Since the lockdown started, in just 20 days we closed orders equal to our last year’s turnover!” he tells me over the phone.
This “big boom” is a reaction to the ground reality in countries like Italy, the capital of luxury furniture, where factories are just reopening, and also anticipating possible hardships in importing goods. The uber wealthy have traditionally looked westward for their interiors, with brands like B&B Italia, Poliform, Flos, Fontana Arte, Fendi, Baxter and Poltrona Frau being firm favourites. But today’s new normal means that many interior designers and clients are looking homeward. “This is the best time for [luxury furniture and accessories brands] in India,” adds Bajoria. “It is the ideal time to step up our game, bring out the best quality, and show customers that they aren’t missing out on anything by buying local.”

Interior designer Vinita Chaitanya
The time is now
This is not a new trend, of course. In the last few years, there has been an increased appreciation among well-travelled, internationally-minded designers like Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla, Tarun Tahiliani and Vikram Phadke for Indian brands that are upping their quality standards, showcasing at top global fairs and catering to international expectations. Bengaluru-based interior designer Vinita Chaitanya, whose plush penthouses and bungalows for clients like actor Deepika Padukone and entrepreneur Kiran Mazumdar have always incorporated Indian accents, recalls a recent project for a city-based billionaire. “[A purveyor of European luxury] he was blown away by the Indian designs I introduced him to, from brands like Viya Home, Taanaaz and Jaipur Trunks Company. He took his guests around, boasting how well they blended with his Italian furnishing,” she says.
With visits to Italy and France, once a prerequisite for any new project, now on hold indefinitely — and the usual three-month wait for imports [sofas, kitchens, wardrobes] being “pushed by another three months or more” — Chaitanya adds that clients are more open in the current scenario to looking at pieces made locally. “This is our time; and people in my fraternity are realising it. Italy may be ahead in terms of technique — they have generations of expertise — but what we can be proud of is our craft.”

The Ring Sofa by Bengaluru-based designer, Sandeep Sangaru
All about scale
The need of the hour is for local brands to pull up their socks and understand what customers are used to in terms of luxury. “It is a great opportunity for designers to be seen,” says Mumbai-based interior and product designer Rooshad Shroff, whose hand carved marble tube lights — launched last November at Raw Collaborative — is now finding more luxury homes. A challenge, however, is that, except for a few brands like luxury furniture makes alsorg, many still struggle with manufacturing capabilities. “This, coupled with the fact that we produce at a smaller scale, hinders us from making the same quality and quantity as the Italians,” he adds. This is what we need to pay attention to in the days to come.
Tumblr media
For Indian brands and product designers, the next step is to get scale. Twenty five years ago, there were hardly any designers, then [what was missing was] production capabilities. Now, in the past 10 years, they have established themselves and there’s great quality, but unless there’s scale, and more Indians buying, how can they grow? Priya Paul, CEO, The Park Hotels
“The biggest advantage Italy has is that their luxury manufacturing started hundreds of years ago; they’ve already perfected the art. In India, we’ve only got into it in the last 10-15 years. But over the next 10 years or so, I think we will see more homegrown brands that will reach the heights of the Italians, French, Germans or Scandinavians,” says Yogesh Chaudhary, director of Jaipur Rugs Group.
Another positive: the renewed interest in sustainability, meaningful purchases and support of all things local in the wake of the pandemic and its far-reaching ripples. “A lot of things we thought of as luxurious will now become frivolous. There will be more thought applied to what one buys — handcrafted, labour-intensive,” says Chaitanya. But at the same time, she wonders if we will quickly forget all that has happened. “Maybe a few months from now, my clients will say ‘let’s go to Italy and explore’,” she laughs. “But at least there is a move towards local at the moment. And for a lot of us, that’s heart-warming.”

Think a Tree of Life with both Oriental and Mughal references: traditional borders filled with scenes from Japanese and Chinese textiles. “Our new collection, Earth, takes inspiration from flora and fauna [drawn from old botanical prints and etchings], and works with them in a modern way, using semi-precious materials in their raw forms,” says co-founder Vikram Goyal. The Sakura table is a stunning example, with its Brutalist style and raw agate. Prices from ₹1.5 lakh. Details: viyahome.com

Five Mindful Spaces To DIY At Home
Five Mindful Spaces To DIY At Home
Interiors

If you’re currently spending every waking hour at home, it can be mentally hard to differentiate working spaces from those intended for relaxation.
The easiest way to do this is with colour, which has the ability to affect our mood and create a particular feeling in any space.
‘By changing colour in separate areas of the home, it can trigger a response when we move from one room into another,’ explains Andrea Lucena-Orr, Dulux colour and communications manager. ‘It can be as simple as using a deep blue on the wall behind our monitor (where we stare at our screen all day), and when moving into our relaxing mode, changing the colour in the living room to a soothing green such as Dulux Pale Sage.’
To help trigger positive vibes in your home, Dulux has developed the following project guide to creating mindful zones. The company has also recently teamed up with not-for-profit meditation app Smiling Mind to channel mindfulness into schools, by developing tools and resources to support ‘physical’ mindful spaces.
‘The creation of a dedicated space through the use of Dulux Colour helps schools reinforce and practice mental health habits to better support children and build resilience in the classroom,’ says Christina Earls, Dulux colour marketing manager.
Colour us inspired!
Yoga zone
Gentle earth-based greens make us feel relaxed and connected to nature – ideal for creating a dedicated yoga zone in your home, even if it’s just a corner of your living area.
Andrea recommends choosing a soft green such as Dulux Pale Tendril, with a crisp white like Dulux Lexicon® Half on trims. Add in touches of grounding clay colours for a sense of flow.
‘Soft colours drawn from nature are known to soothe the mind and promote a sense of wellbeing – just what we need during these challenging times,’ Andrea says. ‘You can use these gentle tones to create quiet, mindfulness zones within your home where you or the kids can switch off and calm the mind.’
Keep the look simple and clutter-free with pale timbers, natural textures, and indoor plants. Then roll out the yoga mat, light a candle, breathe deeply, and relax.

Encourage children to spend time away from devices by creating a specified ‘chill-out zone.’  Designed for quiet play such as drawing or completing a puzzle, this zone can be located in a section of their bedroom or a playroom.
‘Define the area by painting a section of the wall in a serene light blue, such as Dulux Vanilla Ice, and using a cool white on the remaining walls, such as Dulux Vivid White™,’ says Andrea. Pops of inky blue similar to Dulux Grid on accessories can also help ground the space.
Older children in particular may be more inclined to use this zone if it feels personalised to them, so involve them in the colour selection process or deciding on shapes.
Finally, increase the comfort factor with a soft, textured rug and layers of generous, squishy cushions to snuggle into.

Meditation area
Make meditation part of your daily routine with your own nurturing, neutral space.
Start by designating a spot where you’ll feel comfortable and settled, such as a nook in the living area or the corner of your bedroom.
‘Decorate it with natural, earth-based colours that make you feel safe and cocooned, such as Dulux Clay Pipe Half and Dulux Teahouse on the walls, and a warm white like Dulux Natural White™ on the ceiling and trims,’ Andrea says.
Minimise distractions by positioning furniture pieces with plenty of breathing space around them. Comfort is also a priority, achieved through plush surfaces including textured rugs and layered textiles.
From there, dim the lights, light a candle and turn your attention inward.

Reading nook
Many children (and adults!) struggle with motivation to read, so it helps to carve out a dedicated reading corner.
‘Set the scene with a welcoming and laid-back palette of mossy green across a feature wall (try Dulux Pale Sage), with accents of forest green and clay in furniture and accessories,’ Andrea says.
These colours can encourage the mind to relax, allowing your child’s imagination to wander.
In terms of styling, arrange a daybed, beanbag or sofa with blankets, throws and cushions in different shapes and sizes. Add a side table to store books, magazines and indoor plants to emphasise a natural connection.
‘Just be sure to choose the space for your mindfulness zone thoughtfully. Ideally it should be away from busy spots such as the kitchen and TV room, so you can really tap into your zen,’ Andrea says.

Bedroom oasis
If you have a teenager who’s currently learning and socialising at home, chances are they’re sick of their bedroom. Help them fall back in love with this space by giving it a quick and uplifting colour refresh.
Generally speaking, bedrooms can be vastly different colours from any other space to stimulate an environment conducive to sleep. Andrea says calming pinks and soft layered textures will make this space feel captivating and inviting, and according to some colour psychologists, help to create a positive outlook.
‘Create a unique bedhead by painting a circle shape on the wall behind the bed in a dusty pink such as Dulux Victoriana, and remaining walls in a more subtle, tonal shade of Dulux Porcelain Half,’ Andrea says.
Pile the bed high with soft, tactile bedding to finish – think natural linens, cottons, chunky woollen blankets and decadent velvet cushions.

"You had the power to remove it, but you didn't. You let it linger. You waited to see what would happen with the silent killer that sat inside people's homes." McGee wrote the statement for lawyers representing the three families suing Ikea. On Wednesday, they announced the company had agreed to pay $50 million to settle the claims. One liability expert called it an "astonishing" payout and an indication Ikea was intent to avoid a trial where long-standing concerns about its dressers would have been aired. "A settlement of that size suggests to me they know they did something wrong," said Michael Green, a Wake Forest University law school professor who has represented companies facing product-liability suits. "Or they know a jury is going to find they did." The settlements close out the wrongful-death lawsuits filed by the McGees, of Apple Valley, Minn., and parents of two 2-year-old boys who died in Ikea dresser tip-overs in 2014: Curren Collas of West Chester and Camden Ellis of Snohomish, Wash. Ikea's attorneys declined to comment on the settlement. Ikea spokeswoman Mona Astra Liss, in a statement, also did not comment on the agreement but said the company offered its "sincerest condolences to the families of these tragedies." "We will continue to work to raise awareness of this important safety issue," she said.

Ikea to pay $50M to families of toddlers killed bydressers IKEA is a company which sells ready-to-assemble furniture, appliances and other household goods. The company was founded in Sweden in 1943. NEW YORK Ikea has agreed to pay $50 million to the families of three toddlers who were killed when Ikea dressers tipped over on them. The settlement was announced by the families lawyers. The money will be split evenly among the families of Curren Collas of West Chester, Pennsylvania, Camden Ellis of Snohomish, Washington, and Ted McGee of Apple Valley, Minnesota. All three boys were 2 years old when they died. The settlement was reached after a two-day hearing before a retired federal judge. In addition to the $50 million, Ikea will donate $50,000 to three childrens hospitals in the families home states, and $100,000 to Shanes Foundation, a child safety charity. Ikea also agreed to only sell chests and dressers in the United States that meet or exceed the national voluntary safety standard. Ikea announced a repair program in July 2015 to encourage customers to anchor the dressers to the wall. After the third death, it announced a recall of millions of the dressers, along with a refund program for customers who returned them.
