Henry underestimated how quick the farmhouse could become a furnace without A/C. The repairman comes tomorrow, and trying to go outside is not helping! There’s practically no breeze, no trees (yet, they are planting some) for shade, and the sun is shining directly onto their porch.

It WOULD figure that the furnace breaks as soon as Jeremy leaves for a week long conference. We spent two cold nights (not so bad, space heaters are great! But the first night I couldn’t sleep cause I was ruminating on how much it would cost, and what if we froze to death in our sleep and just never woke up? What if just *I* died, and the kids woke up to a dead mom and nobody else in the house? Just cool thoughts like that). Anyway, the repairman is here now. Water leaked and fried an electric board in the furnace, so no voltage was going to the gas something. So he’s replacing the board ($750) and after that will see if the gas something is broken too, fingers crossed that it’s just the board! I’m weirdly glad that there’s actually something wrong and not just, like, a switch I didn’t know to flip or something.

We hired someone today to fix our furnace and our parrot was loudly yelling and stuff at the guy because that’s what he does he gets excitable when people are in the house. So I was like “sorry he’s yelling at you.” And the repairman goes “no I love it. I used to live where parrots like that were wild and the sound is fine”

so the next time you think you’re about to apologize for something you think is annoying, consider that for someone else that quirk is something fun or nostalgic.

Christmas downs and ups.

People don't tend to have problems anymore.  Today they have issues.  Now I did have real problems over the last week.  My furnace wouldn't turn on. The cold sucks.  I have a new respect for Polar Bears.  Yep, had to call a repairman.  Then during that same period, a big leak developed in my basement.  Once again, had to call a plumber.  Got one of those Covid Booster shots during all that and unlike the other shots this time I didn't feel good for a couple of days.  Then my favorite shoes just broke.  They didn't wear out, they broke. I didn't even get to wear them out.   Thanks, a lot Sketchers.  At this point I think to myself, I'm close to being Amish.  If my cable goes out or the car breaks down, I might as well become Amish. I think I could pull off being Amish except I'm kind of an Indoorsy guy.  Sorry Levi and Elam I'm going to pass on helping with the Barn Raising, I'm going over to Fannie and Lavina's to make Sun Tea.  With this time of year, we all are more hopeful and caring.  I'm sure you have a Christmas Wish or two you yearn for.  My Christmas Wish this year is that if I have a cable problem.  I'd call and they'd say: "We'll be right over.  See you in ten minutes."  My second wish is if I call a business & need to talk with customer service.  I'll end up talking to a person whose English is not their second language.  Hi there Zimran, how is the weather in Pakistan?  I did have something that was a display of Christmas Magic that I'll share.  This past weekend the wife and I were at the grocery store.  It was crazy busy with long checkout lines and we had too much in our cart to attempt self-checkout.  While the couple ahead of us were checking out I yelled up to the woman who was bagging her own groceries.  I said:  "You are doing a fabulous job.  If you could bag our groceries that would be nice.  If possible I would prefer paper bags instead of plastic.  You just make it look so easy."  Now I was just teasing.  A few minutes later, I hear my wife say, "Look honey, she's bagging our groceries".  She bagged all our groceries and I of course thanked her.  She said she didn't have time to take them to our car.(Her husband was still standing off to the side with their cart of groceries.)  I told her no worries, we'll manage.  And off she went with her husband and groceries.  My wife reminded me how I was going to get punched one of these days.  I told her that I'll never stop believing in Christmas Miracles and the power of a compliment.  She asked if I still believed in Santa Claus also.  I told her I certainly do.  Like I told our grandson the other day, "The Christmas you stop believing in Santa is the Christmas you start getting clothes for gifts.
