I want to give a massive recommendation for Brutal Orchestra I got this game about 2 weeks ago and have been completely absorbed since. I play a lot of indies and this one really stood out but despite being incredible and getting fantastic reviews it seems like it flew under most peoples radars. So I just wanted to make this post as I think a lot of people would love this game but possibly never come across it. Brutal Orchestra in short is a turn based combat roguelike. You’re in purgatory and set off on adventure. It’s quick to get into and saves your progress when you quit so it’s great to just pick up and play. Runs are not crazy long and there are a ton of party members and items to unlock.I came across this game in a random let’s play series by Olexa. I don’t normally watch series like this but the art of the game caught my interest so I thought I would watch a few minutes and before I knew I was hooked watching. The combat in this game is superb. Combat is based around blood pigments. Your party members require different color pigments to use different attacks. Enemies when attacked bleed pigments based on their health color. This results in a very fun puzzle element as you try to manage your pigments effectively. The combat just feels good and is largely skill based that rewards you a lot as you improve and master it.You can also see what actions your enemies will take which adds another fun puzzle element. Combat is grid based, 5 squares facing 5 squares. So a lot of the game is also about positioning to take the least amount of damage. Some enemies will attack and move around a lot so you really need to keep track of it. One boss who moved around a lot I actually even got a pen and paper out to do the fight which was fun.Game has a lot of replayability. With a lot of different party members to unlock each with unique abilities and each also having different loadouts that can be mixed and matched for different synergies. More isn’t always better though while some fights might benefit from a full party others are better with 2-3 party members. You can bench party members outside of combat and choose their party positions.Game also has a ton of items to unlock which adds a fun rng aspect to the game.The art, music, lore and writing is also absolutely top notch. With a ton to explore and discover.I am not great with words or writing but this game is amazing and I highly recommend it. It’s just a fantastic addictive roguelike worth sinking hours into.Game is available on Steam and GoG. Also has some really great backgrounds on Steam for those interested in that sort of thing.
