#fun fact he has a daughter with a woman who isn't his wife or girlfriend

i'm really curious, does aegon feel like he's cheating on amara with his new lannister gf?
because you said that he didn't expected Cassandra to remain faithful to him, even though she was his wife, but amara is not allowed to be with anyone else while he is seeing other women.
Ok so I am in the mood to yap, nonnie, hence I will yap.
He's the king, first of all. Cheating for him holds...less consequence. In fact, it's encouraged. Any lord who can get his daughter into Aegon's bed would then look forward to favour. Aegon lives in a world where temptations are plated up to him like he's at a five star restaurant, and he's never had very good impulse control. Otto knew what he was doing when he dressed up Alicent to send her to Viserys. Right now, as Aegon is unwed himself, there are lords left and right dressing up and schooling their daughters similarly, and Lyanna seems to have won for now.
Aegon's example of women in his family are Helaena and Alicent and Rhaenyra. Helaena is cheating on her husband (a mutual agreement) with her girlfriend, Floris. Alicent would probably have loved it if Viserys took his attention off her and had a mistress so she could be left in peace. Rhaenyra cheated on her husband, Laenor (also a mutual agreement) with Harwin. Adultery is almost a requirement in this family, and if you're not into your spouse, make an arrangement where you can both cheat. That's what he did with Cassandra.
He also has a different set of standards for Targaryens. Targ women can do more than other women because they're Targaryen. In his view, they'd be more justified than any other woman because of the bloodline (the more he settles into his position of real power, he's finally leaning into his heritage). Women who marry Targaryens would be a step lower by that logic, but Aegon's own mother is a non-Targ, and he probably is aware that if she'd had the chance to cheat and have affection elsewhere, she might not have turned out the way she did. In a way, allowing Cassandra to have lovers, was almost his way of ensuring she wouldn't become like Alicent (and it wouldn't affect their children).
Amara is an anomaly in that he is finally experiencing love for a woman like he did for Aysla, but this time, he's older and not fifteen and impressionable, and she isn't twice his age with five kids. The relationship is unequal from the start, more so than it was with Aysla because she at had the advantage of age over him, whereas he was the prince.
Amara is four years younger and severely traumatised. Right out of the gate he's in a position to control her. But when he lets her exist as she wishes, and thinks it's a great favour on his part, she doesn't respond the way she should. When he first made it obvious he wanted to sleep with her, she joked and wriggled her way out of it.
In a sense, everything he does to her and around her, it's like he's got her in his hands and is shaking her like a rag doll whilst screaming why won't you love me? But for men accustomed to his position, that also means why won't you submit to me?
They're not in a relationship, and that much Amara made clear. They agreed to have sex to have the child together, but she never said she wanted to be his lover in the truest sense of the word. He isn't sure what she feels, because the friendship they have/had is so much fun (when they're both cooperating), that it's hard for him to tell where the line is. He's never been introduced to the concept of being friends with someone you also want to be in a romantic partnership with.
I was also thinking about his relationship to his Targ heritage the other day, and about how he can't categorise her into a "type" of woman he's known all his life. Maybe he's overcome his own aversion to being involved with his family members, to wishing Amara was his sister instead. That co-dependancy he understands perfectly, and it's what he's developing with her (though it's not co as much yet, since she's got one foot out). His view of sibling relationships is naturally skewed, and though he made those claims about wanting her to have "power" so she'd agree to have his baby, in a way it was also about binding her into his blood. Cassandra was the queen, and he needed an heir. He didn't need to have a child with Amara but he chose to with deliberate purpose.
Also, ALSO, this does tie in to the rather strange relationship he and Jaehaera have once she grows up. It's not sexually abusive (though there have been Targ forefathers who are very sus in that regard...I'm looking at you Jaehaerys, you vile man) but it does get emotionally incestuous. She views him as the "ultimate man" but also as the person she can't disappoint, hence she hides her bad behaviour from him more than she hides it from Amara. Aegon, on the other hand, sees her as a piece of Amara that is undeniably related to him by blood, and will belong to him forever. When Amara disengages from him because she can, and because he can never keep her mind focused only on him if she doesn't wish it, he turns to the daughter. Jaehaera ends up knowing way too much about their relationship because Aegon crosses that emotional boundary where a parent really shouldn't be sharing that stuff with a child. She becomes protective over him because she only hears his side. She starts to resent her mother, entering into a one-sided competition over who can treat her father better.
(Alternately, Amara and Aegon's son is completely on Amara's side and resents his father so...oh dear)
ANYWAY, before I end up yapping more (also if you're surprised Jaehaera doesn't grow up well-adjusted....she's a Targaryen with traumatised parents....HELLO)

I would love to read the Shiv gender mess analysis if you’re still considering dropping it 👀
hi sure! pleeeeaze bear in mind it is not analysis, it's just tinkering with stuff i was thinking about at the time. also in writing it i sort of talked myself out of it, which is why i didnt end up posting it before. i didnt want to risk diminishing the importance of shivs womanhood in her characterisation... it's iffy territory conflating internalised misogyny with gender identity and i really hope that isn't how this comes across. ultimately im fascinated by her fraught relationship with gender and it is probably most powerful narratively as a woman. but as a trans guy i sometimes see little flecks of shiv in myself and i just wanted to play around with that!
when your whole existence and system of worth is built on playing the part of daughter to balance out the family equation and to let the media congratulate your dad on his diversity win of owning a female son who is a girl, instead of leaving you out on the hills like a spartan, like the papers said he would. when you are a girl but you dont understand girls because your mother never was one and you hate boys because they are all just your brothers in different shapes, but also because you are not one, and because they are everything you are not allowed to be. when you are a girl and a housekeeper whose name you can't remember teaches you how to handle your first period because there's nobody else around and it feels like you are being shot out into space and spinning down into the core of the earth all at once. when your brother calls you a girl but sometimes, on occasion, you daydream.
when you are a tomboy and you crop your hair short at 17 and the papers call you awful things but what they imply is even worse and the parts you hate the most are the parts they get right. and your father gives you a look that makes you ill. so you throw up and then throw yourself into girlhood and you learn that some things in life are profoundly off-limits. when you find out you don't mind the dresses or even the body after all, because everyone else likes it, and the makeup is fun and makes you feel good, and you come to enjoy the all the nice bits adjacent to girlhood, like being pretty and being liked by boys (and sometimes by girls) and having fun like girls just wanna. and you find your ways of dealing with the quiet, bone-deep discomfort because that is just what womanhood is and everyone else has learned to deal with it too.
when you are a girlfriend and then suddenly a fiancee and you're not sure how it happened but it is not totally unbearable. in fact you kind of like it and your brothers mock you for it but somehow your weird doting partner makes you feel like you are doing something right. and sure you've got problems but you are open and honest with him and you talk it out and you are loved anyway. and sure sometimes the whole wife prospect makes you feel like driving straight off a bridge but what else could you be? and anyway you're not allowed to drive your own car so you deal with it because you are strong and you are brave and there are papers to sign and politicans to sell. and you think maybe you can just resign to the itch under your skin and suck it up and play the part for life. and you ignore your therapist when she asks what part you think you're playing.
when you're a daughter first and a wife second and maybe somewhere down the list you're allowed to be a person. maybe even something looser than that. but it's so far down the list that you'd never have time to check because there's something dad needs you to do or there's deals you need to negotiate.
when talk of babies makes you nauseous but your husband won't let it go and girls count double now and its only your teats that give you any value. when you can't sleep because it's starting to feel like there is something unspeakably, unplaceably wrong with you because you realize now you don't feel the way you're supposed to feel. when you have tried your whole life to be a girl and then a woman and you have succeeded but it all feels like losing. and you know now that womanhood is not supposed to taste like suffering. so you begin to wonder whether it is not just the awful things you've come to expect from moving through the world as a woman. but something deeper, something much much worse, a narrative you can't bend to your will like you can with your clients, because what if, maybe, you're something you can't be. when you can do it all and you can serve the role and that's all that matters, that's all dad needs from you. you can do girlhood. you can do girlhood in your sleep. but somewhere along the way you stopped being girlhood. and now you don't know if you can ever make it back

Hello, Your Parents Want Me To Have Your Babies
PAIRING: Natasha Romanoff x Reader
SUMMARY: Melina, my workplace’s neighbour, wants to set me up with her daughter.
I'd only ever hear about Natasha every couple of weeks, when her adoptive father, the mechanic that owned the garage workshop beside my father's cafe slash bar, met up with my uncle for beers one day last year. Ever since then, our families have been loosely intertwined, friendly but not too close. Alexei fixed my mom's wrecked car for a cheap price, in return I let his youngest daughter Yelena have free coffees whenever she pops over.
From what my father told me, Alexei's entire family, including his wife, were all involved in the family business of repairing cars, except for his eldest daughter: Natasha, who turned out to be an FBI agent living in Quantico. Dad says they're proud of her but they miss her.
"(Y/N)," my brother calls from the kitchen. I put down my phone and find him balancing three plates of sandwiches and a salad in his spindly arms.
He opens his mouth to explain the orders, but I cut him off.
"Alexei," I say, pointing to the bacon and egg sandwich. "A salad for Melina. The tuna and tomato roll is Yelena's. Did they want drinks?"
Peter nods. "Four coffees and a large bottle of water, they already have them."
I ruffle his hair to thank him and grab the plates, balancing the third on my forearm until I can place it on a tray. I carry it outside, years of waitressing practice keeping it balanced, and head towards the garage.
"Melina?" I call. Moments later the raven haired woman slips out of the office and smiles. She yells something in Russian that causes Yelena to slide out from under a silver BMW, covered in black grease. Alexei appears moments later wielding a spanner.
They hound me for their orders, gratefully patting my shoulder and carrying their food away to their separate stations. Yelena disappears into the shadows with her sandwich, and her father to his desk, but Melina simply brightens and says, "(Y/N), have you heard? Natalia is visiting."
"Yes!" Alexei yells around a mouthful of bread. "Family, reunion! Grandbabies!"
Melina hisses something in their mother tongue. I laugh, and then ask if Natasha was bringing her kids, though I wasn't aware she had any.
"He means nothing of it, Natalia is focused on work at the moment. Too focused, I think. No babies. No partner."
"Tell her about her penthouse!" Alexei encourages.
Melina flaps a hand at him in irritation. "Yes, well, she has broken up with Bruce, the shy scientist from work. And then Sharon, charming field operative, also from work. And now she refuses to date. Because of work."
I chuckle nervously. "Where are you going with this?"
Melina smiles innocently. "Nowhere. What happened to your last girlfriend, again? Your father mentioned something about . . ." The look in her eyes is enough to egg me on, though the subject is one I rarely speak of these days.
Rubbing the back of my neck, I say, "Carol left to travel Europe."
"Shame," she nods sympathetically. "You don't seem bothered. Are you not looking for a relationship?"
"Not actively, but I'm sure another troublemaker will find me. I don't have a good track record of steady relationships," I admit.
"Neither does Natalia!" Alexei shouts.
"Oh!" I say. "Does she want Carol's number? Or my friend Harley, she's not looking for commitment."
Yelena snickers. Alexei frowns. Melina chuckles. "No, no, Natalia needs someone she doesn't work with, and you need someone serious, and we need grandbabies before we die, since Yelena neglects it."
I flush a bright red. "Grandb— I'm— okay, first of all, neither of us have the equipment for that—"
"Neither did Dad," Yelena pipes up, referring to the fact that she and her sister were adopted.
"Hey!"
"(Y/N)!" Peter calls, rounding the corner. "Ned's coming over to pick me up, we need to finish our physics project. Uncle Ben should be here soon, can you manage the bar until he gets here?"
I jump onto the excuse and yell back affirmation, say a quick goodbye to Melina before speed-walking back to the cafe.
Peter leaves with Ned soon after, and Ben arrives at around the same time. I move to the kitchens while he takes over serving our regulars, as he's friendlier with them than me.
I work on making more sandwiches and tapas meals until four, when my shift ends. I kiss Uncle Ben on the cheek and head home.
The smell of paprikash greets me as I unlock the door to my apartment, which I guess means that my roommate is home. I call out a hello to her and head to the shower.
I groan happily as the hot water rains down on my front. I close my eyes and lean my head back, thinking over how strange the day had been, and lose myself in a trance of relaxation.
"(Y/N/N)!" Wanda barges in. I jump and almost slip grabbing the shower curtain to cover my body as I peek out at her.
"I'm naked," I hiss.
She ignores me and holds up two clothes hangers. "Pantsuit or dress?"
I push my wet hair out of my face. "Uh, are you bar-hopping with Vision or going to a family dinner?"
"Get together with some friends," she explains. "Vis, Sam, Steve and some guy named Bucky who I'm informed we're supposed to be pretending Steve isn't in love with, do you know him?"
"Nope."
"Okay, well, he's bringing some friends, so I'm bringing you. Don't make that face, you know almost everyone."
"I don't feel like getting drunk," I complain.
"Good! You can be the designated driver. Pantsuit or dress?"
Grumbling, I tell her, "Dress."
"Okay, thanks, you wear the pantsuit, be ready by seven. May the Force be with you!"
She ducks as I throw my shampoo bottle at her. We bicker and mock and tease as I pat myself dry and she changes into the scarlet dress. While she braids her hair, I carefully slip into the navy and white striped pantsuit, and we move into her bedroom to make use of her vanity, since the sun's lowering position in the sky shone straight into the window while my room would be encased in dimness by now. I sit in the chair and she leans over me, brushing her eyelashes with delicate mascara. We fall into our normal going-out-getting-ready rhythm, periodically handing each other different brushes, comparing lipstick shades, and commenting on our days. She tells me about her brother's latest shenanigans and I make the grave mistake of commenting on Melina's attempted set-up earlier today, much to Wanda's entertainment. The two had never met but they both shared the pure ecstasy that came with matchmaking involving me.
"Do you think she's pretty?" Wanda wonders.
"I've seen photos," I shrug. "She's a redhead. Yelena says she changes hairstyles often."
"That doesn't answer my question! Pretty redhead or no?"
"They were baby photos, Wanda! I didn't have an opinion on her looks past the Wonder Woman pajamas."
She hums, and turns to draw a small heart under my left eye with her gel liner pen. "It would be nice if you wound up with her, but if you do fall madly in love with her beautiful red locks and decide to move to Washington to marry her and have her babies, I will murder you. You pay your rent on time and you're fun and please, please do not make me move back in with my brother."
"Why does everyone keep bringing up babies?" I yell.
An hour later we're pulling up to the bar in the back of a cab arguing about getting a cat. The debate of whose bathroom would host the litter tray is interrupted by Wanda spotting Vision through the window and quickly smacking my arm and hissing at me to hurry up and pay so she can sneak in and scare him. Unfortunately, I can't locate my purse inside my bag.
"(Y/N), (Y/N), go, go, go . . ."
"Wanda, Wanda, going, going, going . . . Aha!" I pay the driver and find myself being ushered inside before I can put my purse back in my bag.
Sam, a friend of Wanda's from college, ends up foiling her evil master plan by pointing her out as soon as she walks in the door. Vision, being a good sport, pretends to be startled when she yells "BOO!" in his ear. As she cackles manically before sliding into the chair beside him, I notice the only free space is by the pretty blonde woman beside a man with brown hair pulled into a bun.
"Oh, look who I dragged out with me!" Wanda exclaims, taking a sip of Vision's drink and making a grand gesture with her hands. "(Y/N)!"
I'm greeted with a chorus of hello's. I bow and grin as I sit by the woman and offer a polite smile. Steve leans over points to the brunet man. "This is Bucky, we were close as friends. As kids. We were close as friends, when we were kids."
Sam snorts into his beer.
Steve clears his throat awkwardly. "And this is his partner from work, Nat."
I get a closer inspection and my eyes widen in shock. "Natalia?"
"Her name is Natasha." Steve corrects.
"I thought her name was Natalie?" Vision frowns.
"She goes by Nat, who cares?" Sam shrugs.
"Natalia Alianovna Romanova?" Wanda yelps. "(Y/N)! You didn't tell me this was the Natalia!"
"The what? I— Do I know you two?" Natasha asks, bewildered.
"Not me!" Wanda says, and then makes a motion for zipping her lips shut.
Everyone turns to me. I chuckle nervously. "I should probably explain. Hi, I'm (Y/N), your parents want me to have your babies."

Shame and Forgiveness Ch. 2
(Aftermath of the failed coronation for both Audrey and Ben.)
In Auroria...
The Honeymoon Cottage...
3rd POV
"THE MALEFICIENT(S) CRASH THE COURT!"
"KING BEN UNDER SCRUTINY!"
"IS KING BEN FIT FOR THE THRONE!?"
"LOVE SPELL MISHAP!? A PLAN TO TAKEOVER THE THROWN!"
"VILLIAN TEENS, RIGHT OFF THE ISLE!"
"ROYAL SCANDAL! IS BEN THE KING WE NEED!?"
THWACK!
Former Queen Leah, Queen Aurora, and King Philip looked up from their seats to see Audrey had thrown newspapers onto the table. One look at them said it all.
It had been a quiet morning in the 40-roomed castle and the cooks and fixed a delicious breakfast for the royal family for the family to enjoy. All but one, that is.
"Don't they have anything better to do than harass Ben!" she hissed. "It's bad enough that the coronation was ruined and postponed, but now they're making it seem like it's all his fault!"
Sighing, Queen Leah took a sip of her morning tea before explaining, "And they have that freedom to do so."
"What?" Audrey asked incredulously.
Her grandmother nodded. "When Ben was elected to be King, he knew what was expected of him by looking towards his father's rule. Now, changes can be expected, but when you have a spectacle as big as his coronation, it is no surprise it won't be taken lightly. In this case, some could believe this was all in his making."
"Huh? So they think he, what, planned on ruining his ascension to the throne to get more popular?" Audrey snorted.
Queen Leah sent her a fixed glare. "Watch your tone, young lady. It is not becoming of a princess. And to answer that question, no. Ben knew there was a risk by taking in those children of the Isle, and to let his guard down long enough for Maleficient's daughter was able to slip him a love spell is quite the scandal. Not to mention how the Fairy Godmother's daughter practically disgraced herself with that foolish display of hers."
"Yes," Audrey shrugged. She had heard that Jane had got the equivalent of a verbal thrashing and that her mother was going to keep her on a tight leash from now on.
"The fact of the matter is: Ben was, or still is, the representation of his people, and royalty alike. His actions reflect on his person, and those actions have made certain people believe that he isn't ready for the throne," Queen Leah stated.
"But he's a King!" Audrey exclaimed. "Or a Prince, at the very least! He grew up with royalty, he studied his butt off to know all there is to know about Auradon before it was even a founded country! His mother is the most down-to-Earth woman that has ever lived and he knows from his dad's past to not act like a spoiled brat. And he is so, so mature... He's ready for the mantle, Grandmother. This was just a...a hiccup."
Audrey inwardly winced at the sound her grandmother's hand hitting the redwood table.
"Just a hiccup!? Audria, please remove your personal feelings from the situation and regard it like a princess," Queen Leah admonished. "Just because he is a prince, doesn't mean that he has the maturity of one. If you may want an example, think of Queen Cinderella's son, that for his childish action in which would make any royal monarchy disown him, was simply sent away for the remainder of the year. From the way rumors have it, especially considering how with his mother's background of being a servant in her own home, it would do him some good to learn some humility before embarrassing his family's name in ignorance. Ben is young, yes, but a ruler should know when to make certain risks and when to ensure his people's safety. And while yes, his family background has given him a sense of modesty, being smart isn't always enough. A king must be prepared to give himself, all of himself, to his people. Especially as he gets older, he will realize that he has no time for fun and games."
"So what happens? Because he's not fully instated as of the coronation, the council can just what? Abdicate his right to the throne? Pick someone else?" Audrey asked.
"Well, I wouldn't use that exact wording, but most likely, yes," Queen Leah stated indifferently.
"But that's not fair!"
"Life isn't fair, Audria, and you would do well to remember that!" her grandmother snapped. Audrey jumped back at the steel in her voice.
"Mother!" Aurora exclaimed. King Philip was just about to join in when Queen Leah raised her hand, taking a breath.
"I apologies, Audrey," she started, "and I can see why you'd feel this way. But you must know that actions must have consequences. Just look at what Maleficient's daughter had planned. She had waved that wand at us, at you, and then read all about her plans for Auradon if she had succeeded in controlling Ben! I am under a good authority that for her plans to had become fruition, it would have been years. And if she was well-liked and silver-tongued enough, maybe sooner. It's bad enough what her mother had done, but now her child had been this close to Auradon's ruin...It's all out in the air now and if he wants to reclaim any doubt that he could still make a good king, how he handles it will determine so. And with that, comes with an eventual press conference if he wants to start."
Taking in a deep breath and reigning in her frustrations, she sat down beside her grandmother and placed her head down.
"I don't think that's even going to come close once school starts again," Audrey groaned inwardly.
Officially, because of the incident and in concern for the safety of the students and their, Auradon Prep had been closed for an unscheduled break and be re-open in two weeks. Audrey and everyone else, including Ben, would be returning the week after this one.
Unofficially, the scandal has put AP under lockdown for a high-profile investigation regarding the VKs whereabouts, classes and extracurricular activities. They were looking for anything that was a dead giveaway to their plans and had slipped under their noses.
And Fairy Godmother was leading the charge.
Queen Aurora and King Philip reached out and grabbed both of her hands softly, to comfort her as she let out what was practically screaming in her chest.
"I told them," she started, feeling her eyes moisten. "I told everyone that Mal and her friends couldn't be trusted. I told Ben repeatedly that, as your stories said, the evil fairy is still the evil fairy. That doesn't change just because she had a child. And what do I get: I get humiliated in front of everybody as he...as he declared his love for Mal. Of all people, and I had to suddenly grab and get with Chad to because-"
"Shhh," Aurora soothes, bring another hand to caress her daughter's head and wipe her tears. "You don't have to explain. It over now."
King Philip growled and did his best to make it as inconspicuous as he could. He had heard rumors about that game and got mixed stories. Future king or not, Audrey was his only daughter, his only child, and for Ben to hurt her like that? Under a love spell or not, he would have killed him. It would have made fighting Maleficent look like a walk in the park!
He knows his daughter was proud, and unlike her mother in many ways, but at that moment when she called crying, all he could do is comfort her over the phone alongside her mother and tell her it would pass.
"I was the bitter ex-girlfriend as she got popular. Cheerleading was only bearable since I was the captain, but most of my friends avoided me in favor of her. Using magic to help the girls grow longer hair. Yeah, so what if I was mean to her on Family Day, Jane was just as well! She took it farther than me almost. And then my reputation when down the hill too. Reduced to a bitter, jealous, vengeful princess now...I don't think I can trust anyone at that school anymore. Maybe I should transfer to Arcadia or maybe Sherwood Academy is better. Ha, maybe that might stick it to 'em!" she laughed bitterly.
"You're not going anywhere because you're staying at Auradon," Queen Leah said finality.
Audrey whipped her head to her in shock. "What?"
"Audi, you can't just hide from your problems. Trust me, I was raised by fairies for 16 years to escape a 100-year sleeping curse and it still happened!" Aurora stated irritatedly.
Shaking his head at his wife, King Philip took over. "Look, Audrey, sometimes in life you've got to pick your battles and to know when it's time to surrender. You sensed something in your gut that told you something was off right?"
She only nodded.
"Good," he continued. "You knew something was off, you tried to warn people, and sometimes, the best and only thing you can do is let the chips lie where they fall. It may not feel right or make you feel better, but that's how it can be sometimes. You tried, you fought, probably longer than you should, but you eventually had to move aside. You said your piece and that's all you had to do. Everyone else? They have to live with the fact that they chose not to heed your warning and that's on them. But not you. And that's why you're staying at Auradon. Because as King and Queen, and your parents, you don't get to give up so easily."
"And what if they try to apologize?" Audrey asked. She only thought about it once and decided she didn't want their apologies and excuses.
"Then, you straighten your back, keep your head up, look them in the eyes, grace them with a small smile, and simply say '"Thank You"' and '"I accept your apology"'. Granted, you may not feel like it, but a princess must always carry herself with strength and dignity as well as grace and respect. You may have been born with that title, but the only person who can take that away from you is yourself and by running away, that is exactly what your doing," Queen Leah told, keeping her granddaughter's eyes on her.
The power Audrey felt perforating into her made get into a proper position to raise her head high. While it did do some good for her, part of her knew her family's advice could only do so much.
