ok but what WOULD alec wear if he was heterosexual. as you all know from prior alec seminars the core aspect of his gender presentation is abt making himself feel better after a lifetime of being neglected & unloved. compensating for how frequently he's felt like less than dirt by turning himself into A Very Special Boy and so on. his in-costume prince aesthetic is on a surface level about associating himself w/ prestige and power, but beyond that, there's the fact that princes tend to be a monarchist nation's darlings--read any british publication talking about how today the VERY special boy The Prince learned how to ride a horse and we are very proud of his majesty and you get the idea behind what's subconsciously drawing alec towards the prince aesthetic specifically. not to mention that being a prince = being famous, powerful, and beloved Because of who your family is, which is a direct inverse of how alec's family did jack-fuck-all for him & he receives permanent negative stigma for having been born into it. the little gayboy elements come into play w/ his choice of antiquated royal clothing--items that would have been gender-conforming at the time, but today are highly connotated w/ effeminacy. lots of soft, draping material, tights, lace and frills, newly-shined riding boots, all things that add an implied pampered feminine air to his costume while neatly disguising the body armor underneath. as for how he dresses out of costume, he tends to prefer expensive but understated clothing--things that let him fade into the background while still implying casual luxury and relaxation. soft, draping white sweaters, tights (but no armor this time), women's section white t-shirts with little gold embossed logos, designer jeggings, unnecessarily expensive rompers with cute little scallops on the leg & arm-holes, you get the gist.
heterosexual alec wouldn't actually dress like victor lavere unfortunately because my understanding of victor lavere is that he is aspiring to look like a very dapper young gentleman, presumably inspired by marquis' refined aesthetic, and "intelligent dapper refinement" is simply not part of alec's mental picture of an ideal Special Boy, regardless of whether he's straight or bi. the crucial elements of self-soothing "wgat if i was a special boy so special and everyone liked me forever. and i was rich too" fantasy remain baked into his psyche, but unfortunately it's going to be without the faggy parts that are at least fun to look at. which means heterosexual alec dresses like this:
yeah, i hope he dies too.
