Runs in the family by Amanda Palmer's is a sayeon song
OH GOD YEAH. the obvious deep-seated conviction that everything "wrong with her" is because of her criminal Aberrant heritage, and the conviction that said heritage is inescapable... but there's not much I can say about that which isn't just reiterating the song. so here are some little details that also stood out to me:
"With me, well, I'm well, well I mean I'm in Hell, well I still have my health, at least that's what they tell me If wellness is this, what in Hell's name is sickness?"
oh sayeon is not doing too good. and has not been doing too good for a long time. it's become normal to her. she's never had cause to even admit that she was in pain. "if wellness is this, what in Hell's name is sickness" YEAH.
"But business is business and business runs in the family We tend to bruise easily, mad in the blood I'm telling you 'cause I just want you to know me Know me and my family, we're wonderful folks"
This part in particular - and the general frantic tone of the song - reminds me of sayeon spilling her guts to people during time-loops. like her first sincere apology to ryujin. I think she really does want to open up to someone about her Aberrant ancestry, and, in general, things she feels guilty about (see: telling min, trying to tell jaeil - heck, even the time samin killed that guy and she wanted to confess/apologise to his daughter). but unfortunately her power means she can do this, get the short-term catharsis, then rewind time and erase any long-term support, or responsibility, or genuine connection. fun!
and then the running part. my god! the running part. yeah that's what she tried, is still trying, right?
"I can run for the office and run for my cause I can run using every last ounce of energy"
very sayeon!
and I think, in a way, her throwing herself into law enforcement also fits this:
"I can run from the law, I can run from myself"
even though she's doing the opposite of running from the law, I think Sayeon feels like she's escaping justice for her crimes of being born an Aberrant and a criminal, and "causing" Samin to kill that guy. I think her dedication to service is partly a sort of atonement. this is kinda dark, but I can't stop thinking about her statement of "the world will never be a better place as long as there are people like me in it". I think her idea is, like, just wait for death and take as many other Aberrants out with me as I can.
