fuckyeahheroesandheroines replied to your post: i’ve read my fair share of terrible dy...
Which one??
it's called Defiance by C.J. Redwine and the protagonist Rachel is the dumbest thing to ever exist. She's risking innocent lives and behaving like a 4 year old idiot on the whim of the idea that her dad's still alive (he went on a mission, went missing and never returned for over 60 days. he's dead and she refuses to accept it despite knowing that her dad ventured out into dangerous territory where survival isn't guaranteed). she's broken so many rules growing up, and when the bad guy (i guess the leader) held her at "gunpoint" (knifepoint/sword-point pretty much) she blurted out the truth and just kept getting her neck more and more sliced (we're only like 10 chapters in a 71 chaptered book)
and i'm like: girl u shut up. u shut up u shut up.  ur an idiot that needs to know that u could have used this leverage against him.
(like the bad guy/the leader of their dystopian community thinks that she knows something so when she started running around being an idiot on the whim of an idea that her dad's still alive, she doesn't even think about how stupid she's acting. like the other protagonist, logan, was freaking smart about things and knew to keep his mouth shut instead of provoking everybody)
and apparently there's two more books and i'm honestly surprised this girl managed to survive for that long???

fuckyeahheroesandheroinessaid: ahh, i really want to follow it, but i dont have a great textual knowledge of things (but im starting to learn). i wish i knew more and where to start though
mostly i use hebrew script so you can just google it and it'll pop right up. if not, feel 100% free to message me (this applies to anything i have written anywhere, tbh)
wrt finding a place to start, there are shiurim (jewish classes) all over the internet. some are more text-based than others, find your own comfort zone. if you prefer written resources, the Chabad site is always a great place to be.
also bennistar & parshanut makes me happy. (parshanut is more about text analysis and familiarity with the mefarshim - commentators - than about actual linguistic skills, but idk i just find it really enjoyable. bennistar usually uses text to source halachic points, which is how you'll probably be using most text yourself, so it's really useful)

fuckyeahheroesandheroines replied to your post:I have two short stories I’m considering writing...
funny/serious so you can alleviate some of the seriousness and create a good balance??
I'm not quite sure- it's for my fiction writing class, and I want to impress.
And I'm not quite sure if 1st person is the best way to do that.

Hey, the Guillem March comic with Starfire was also tagged with Blackfire, but that's actually Essence. Just thought you should know!
Essence? So she's not Blackfire? huh... so who is essence then?

Maka took a deep breath, hand resting on the doorknob.  Two hours, she could do this.
She swung the door open with more force than was strictly necessary, striding into the room with her pigtails streaming behind her.  She stomped her way over to the opposite wall and slid into the first desk she could.
Sitting primly with her hands neatly folded on the desk, Maka began her wait.
But a few minutes later, the silence was interrupted by loud male laughs outside the door.  Her lip curled.  She knew that voice.
"HELLO DETENTION BUDDIES!"
Maka sighed as the door was flung open, crashing against the wall, and in walked Black Star.
"Oh, we got a small-- Maka?"
"Hello," she said, resigned.
"You're in detention?  What did a goody two shoes like you even do?"
"Shut up, Black Star," she hissed through her teeth.  "You're not supposed to talk in detention."
"Maka, you're already in trouble," he said, swinging himself into the desk next to hers.  "Might as well embrace it."
Someone slipped in behind her, and she turned to face the new boy in school, Soul Evans.  He shot her a grin and she rolled her eyes.  "Looks like Black Star's been a really good influence on you," she said.
He shrugged, leaning back in his seat.  "Maybe," he said, putting his hands behind his head.  "Or maybe I'm the real troublemaker."
Maka snorted.  Black Star slapped his hand on her desk.
"Hey!  You newer answered.  Why are you here?"
She swivel back to him.  "Some senior was picking on Tsugumi, that freshman.  She was really upset about it."
"So?"
"So he was being a dick!  And no one else was doing anything about it!"
"What did you do?"
"I punched him."
Soul laughed, but Black Star gave him a look.
"No man, trust me, Maka has a mean right hook."
"Skinny girl like her?" Soul asked, raising a snowy eyebrow.
Maka whirled in her chair to glare at her classmate.  "I bet I could take you right now," she snarled.  He held up his hands in front of him as if to shield himself.
"How is this your first detention if you're always this riled up to fight?"
Maka cast her eyes down.  "Uh, it isn't."  Soul laughed again.
"Well, how many detentions did you get at your old school?"
"Plenty," he replied, but shifted his weight slightly as he spoke.  "Regular bad boy."  Maka rolled her eyes.  "You don't believe me?"
She sized him up.  There was something about his too-casual draping of his limbs across the desk that made her smile.
"What, not even scared of these?"  Soul pulled his lips back to reveal his unusually sharp teeth.  He gnashed them loudly, a small trail of drool slipping out of the corner of his mouth.  Maka giggled.
"Nice try, Sharkboy."
"Aw, man..."
The chair squeaked from Maka's left, and she turned her head to see Black Star watching them shrewdly.  Something in his calculating look made Maka open her mouth to protest, but before she could speak, Black Star had smoothed his expression into a neutral one and spoke first.
"Y'know, I'm thinking of having a movie night this weekend at my place."
"Oh yeah?" Soul asked, clearly oblivious to Black Star's observation.
"Yeah.  I was gonna invite a lot of people.  You both should come," he said, pointedly looking at Maka.  She felt her face grow hot.
"Sounds like a good time," Soul said, and she looked back at him, but he merely looked contemplative.
Black Star met her eyes again, and Maka once again tried to correct him of whatever was going on in his head, but before she could get another word out, the classroom door burst open again, and a gray blur came whirring through the room and crashed into the desk.  "Please work silently for the duration of the detention," came Professor Stein's voice from the floor, and Maka turned to her backpack with reddened cheeks, painfully aware of Black Star's smug smirk, but missing entirely the small smile on Soul's face.
