Online Dating: When he asks to borrow money before you've even met?!
Friends I wish I was joking. I'd been messaging with this guy for 4 or 5 days, we will call him J. J is in the army, on a base maybe 30 mins from me. In one of our first conversations he says he is actually about to retire from the army in about 2 weeks. He wants to open a coffee shop. He has a daughter that is 4 and says she's his world, as guys do. Great I think, a dad to a daughter is good. After a couple days of chatting through the app I decide he seems cool and decide to give him my phone number. Here is when things get interesting. When asking more about how living on base works with a family, he throws out that he caught his ex wife cheating on him with his best friend. Ok, I think, shit happens. So I make a remark about how I assume that guy is no longer his BFF, and he agrees. Next he sends me a picture of a confirmation that he has deleted the dating app we met on. Thats a little pre-mature I think, but whatever. I don't comment back, because I really don't know what to say to that. I ask his birthday, and he sends me a picture of his army ID and his passport. Odd, I think, but I check his birthday and at least he's not a Gemini ( I have had a lot of bad experiences with Gemini, so I don't date them). We talk more and he's sweet and tells me I'm sweet, and I ask if he wants to meet the next day, a Saturday. He says he has to check with his boss, but he will let me know by the time he gets off in the morning.
In the morning I don't hear from him, so about 10:30 I text him good morning. He says good morning, and when I ask how he is, he says not good. I assume he's going to tell me he can't meet up, but instead he gives me this story about how his retirement is coming up next week and he needs money to pay for his retirement ceremonial outfit. Then sends me a screenshot of his army portal bank balance which has $1,885,000 dollars in it. He claims he can't access this money until after his retirement is official. He says all the money he gets goes right into his entitlement so his ex doesn't get part of it. He gets impatient with me for not responding, but I'm in the middle of teaching my dance classes on zoom, so I tell him to give me a minute. I tell him I really don't have any advice, and he asks if he can borrow the money from me and pay me with interest. TF! I tell him I'm a single mom living paycheck to paycheck and I don't have anything to lend him and he just says ok, and that's it.
I'm assuming this is a scam, otherwise WTF. Who the hell asks to borrow money form someone they haven't even met?!
