32: Wedding Kiss (let the ship sail)
Read more for length and fluff if you donât wanna see it.
Oâraha had been plenty nervous of this day long coming. The long-awaited peace had been ongoing for months, and the substitute warrior of light had popped the question that had been on his mind since the night of the Sultanaâs banquet those years ago. The one person he would want to spend the rest of his life with.
After going to Ishgard, Ala Mihgo, and even as far as Doma alongside the woman who would save them all.
âKheda, I would be honored if you were to bond eternally with meâŠâ
The true warrior of light had received many, many proposals from various kinds of people, all whom which were turned down quite promptly. She was flattered, but didnât want to have a partner that couldnât handle the pressure of being Warrior of Lightâs chosen love. They would be targeted, and Kheda would be stressed out as the end result over their safety. Lucky for Oâraha, he was able to prove himself early to his fellow miqoâte and rose to the challenge time and time again to fight by her side as an equal.
So, why not ask the one question until recently? He had asked himself this question himself as his brother adjusted his tie.
âGetting nervous?â the older cat asked his younger sibling. He knew his twin well, and Oâraha was no stranger to displaying his emotions.
âY-yeah. I mean, what if Iâm not good enough? What if I fail herÂââ
âThatâs enough of that. Kheda accepted your proposal on terms you both would go into anything together. Not like you havenât done it already.â he commented to himself, stepping back. The new couple had opted for less traditional colors, and went more for an earthy, natural feel.
The monk tugged gently on his collar. Did he really have to wear thisâŠthis suit? It fit him just fine, but the clothing was constricting, something the miqoâte despised more than anything. His twin grinned, slapping him gently on the back.âYou canât keep her waiting. Now get out there, or I will.â he joked, his ears flickering happily. Oâraha frowned, walking past the other, giving him a firm bump with his shoulder.
âSheâd know the difference, Dâes.â he remarked blandly, reaching for the doorâs handle. Once he went out there, heâd see her. The love of his life. What if she backed out for whatever reason? What if With a deep sigh, he opened the door and went into the hall, following by his brother. The sight before him, it was one to behold.
She took his breath away. He hadnât seen the dress beforehand, so it was more of a surprise than anything. He rarely saw Kheda wearing such fashion, but each time he was blown away. her hair had grown out longer, intricately tied back with with small silver bands, the extra bangs still hiding her face from him. Her gown was a similar green to his suit, but in a slightly lighter shade.
âHeâs alllll yers, my lady.â Dâesmon chuckled, leaving the pair behind and finding his own seat in the hall. Oâraha glanced back and forth nervously, as she turned to look at him.
âNervous?â she asked gently, a reassuring smile on her face. The sand cat jumped slightly at her words, before scrambling to reply.âNervous? Heroes donât get nervous.â he answered quickly, gesturing to himself. He could hear a soft chuckle coming from his bride to be, as this was something she detected about his already. Smooth. real smooth. The seeker flinched as the doors opened.
He was ready.
They walked together, one step at a time down the aisle. Oâraha kept his guard up still, as anyone could try to attack them. He didnât need a weapon on him, he was deadly enough without them after all the years of training he got from Kheda.
Despite his guard, he couldnât help but smile. So many people had turned out to see their ceremony and he was in awe. Did he really know this many people? Did they know this many people together? He saw many familiar faces here, from his fellow monks to members of his party that helped take down foe after foe.
âPlease turn and face one another.â He heard the instructions loud and clear as he turned slowly to Kheda, looking down to meet her gaze. She had looked up to him, her hands resting gently in his. He should be nervous, right? He could feel his anxiety fading away as having Kheda this close to him started to feel more natural.
The pastor droned on, talking about various things like life challenge, and being together no matter what happens in Eorzea. Had he known what these two had been through, he mightâve had something different to say. As Oâraha was handed a small ring, he was instructed carefully on his next set of actions.
âAnd with this, I bond with you.â the seeker started, slowly placing the ring on her finger. The same happened for him, as he felt a similar band placed on his left hand. He gently clenched his fist, the accessory feeling just right between his knuckles.
This was real. It was happening. This was no dream.
âI now pronounce you husband and wife.â the words were ushered in with care, to the unfortunate premature hollers from the back of the hall, courtesy of his brother. There were shushes among the crowd, as a small pink-haired miqoâte nudged him.âNyat yet.â she hissed to him quietly, trying to make sure her cousin didnât ruin his siblingâs big day.
âAhemâŠyou may now kiss the bride.â the pastor spoke, sending a warning look to Dâesmon, who sunk in his seat with his ears back. The white mage shook her head, patting the male on the shoulder.
With a short breath, Oâraha turned back to Kheda. He offered her a trademark grin he had shown her before, something that felt so natural at this moment.
With swiftness and (surprisingly) grace, the seeker leaned closer. His arms wrapped around her smaller frame gently, yet firmly brought her into his embrace. His height he knew possibly could be an issue, so this was the most appropriate way to handle such a task. He kissed her passionately, to the (now appropriate) cheers and cries from the members in attendance. Not only was it unusual for him to pull off such a stunt, he did it with a calm and collected demeanor, something that surprised most people.
Her arms came around his back as well, as she too wanted to be closer to him. The moment didnât last too long, as the two soon parted, their hands together. The monk grinned happily as he could finally introduce Kheda as his wife. Things were less complicated that way.
After the two had walked back down the aisle and out of the hall, the doors shut behind them.letting Khedaâs hand go, the seeker let out cheer as he could no longer contain his excitement. He bottled up his energy for the ceremony(sinc ehe had promised to behave during the actual ceremony itself), and now he couldnât resist what he would do next.
With one swift motion, he scooped the keeper up into his arms, holding her close. Kheda was easy for him to pick up, as he leaned in close to tell her something. âIâve always wanted to hold you like this.â he confessed to her, his eyes content with meeting hers.
âWhy is that?â she asked him, smiling.âBecause the one I love, I want them close to me. That way, I can always protect them from harm. Youâre no exception, even if you are the warrior of light.â He gently pulled her even closer, giving off the impression of a protective embrace. He shook his bangs out of his face, leaning in close to kiss her once again.
He was still far from being the hero of all Eorzea, but he was Khedaâs hero now.
