JAM session (get it haha)
Chatzy that we never finished that’s super cute @sam--evans
JULES made sure to round up Sam's favourite snacks as well as some water - she respected his vocal chords too much to offer him anything else until after he showed her what he was working on for Glee. Slipping up to the roof, she set it all up along with a blanket for them to sit on.
SAM grabbed his guitar and packed an over night bag, his dad needed the car early in the morning so the boy was going to get dropped off at Julia's and ask Carole if he could spend the night. Upon entering the Hudson house, before making his way to the girl's room, he swung by the living room and cleared the sleepover with momma Hudson who was always more than welcoming. Dumping his bag by Julia's bed, the boy climbed out the window and made his way over to where she had set up a blanket and snacks. "You know me too well." He said, looking over the variety she'd picked.
JULES had honestly lost herself in thought staring up at the sky when she was brought back to reality at the sound of Sam's voice. A warm, happy feeling took over her as she turned to smile at him. "Wayyyy too well. I know things that would totally turn you into a social pariah." She teased, patting the spot beside her. "The water is for now, there's soda and tea and chocolate milk downstairs for later."
SAM raised and eyebrow a little, a slight smirk appearing on his lips at her words, mainly because he knew she was right. "Hm, I can't argue with you there." He admitted, sitting down beside her and moving his guitar around from his back, mindlessly strumming a few chords. "I do love chocolate milk." He smiled.
JULES giggled and turned towards him, watching as he strummed at the guitar. "So, what's the Glee project this week? Reggae?" She nudged him playfully with her elbow. "Because, I think you might be a bit too white chocolate for Bob Marley."
SAM hummed to himself as he continued to strum the guitar. "Prom," He answered he question before laughing a little at her joke. "Hey now, don't doubt my talents - I could totally pull off Reggae." He let out a soft chuckle. "Basically I'm thinking anything with dance in the title will be accepted?" There was a hint of self doubt in his voice, he hadn't really paid much attention in glee club that day and most of the time, the simplest of things confused him.
JULES giggled. "Okay, fine, you could pull of reggae, but don't tell Bob Marley's ghost that I said that." She listened intently. "Hmm, yeah anything with dance should work! Did you have any ideas? What about Shut Up and Dance?"
SAM smiled sweetly, nodding along to her words. "I'm thinking Dancing On My Own, but like the Calum Scott cover.. even though it's not really dancey or anything, I like his version better - plus it's easier to do acoustically." He rambled a little. "What do you think??"
JULES felt her eyes perk up when he mentioned the song, it was beautiful and she knew that Sam would be able to perform it perfectly - she never had any doubt about that. "I haven't actually heard the cover - you can introduce me to it." She smiled.
SAM chewed lightly at his bottom lip, looking down at his guitar before beginning to strum the chords of the song. Keeping his eyes down as he started to sing, though he'd sung for the girl before, something was starting to feel different - almost like a nervous feeling. Getting to the chorus, he slowly looked up locking eyes with the girl as he continued to sing.
JULES wanted to look away; to close her eyes and think critically so that she could be honest with him about the song, but she couldn't take her eyes off of him. What was happening in her stomach? Why was her heart beating so quickly? Why couldn't she hear or see anything else? When is eyes locked onto hers, Julia's feelings began to overwhelm her. This was different, it wasn't like the times she had heard him sing before. It had never affected her like this before.
SAM continued to keep his eyes locked with the girl, his stomach churning and his brain begging him to look away to stop whatever feelings he was feeling. But he couldn't, he couldn't take his eyes off of her. A very soft smile tugging at his features as his voice continued to fill the air.
JULES continued listening, still frozen after the song ended, unable to speak. It took her a few moments to check herself back into reality, her cheeks burning bright red as she glanced down at her hands. "Wow, Sam. That was amazing, really. I.. um, well, I uh - I definitely vote for that one." She glanced back up, an awkward smile on her face.
SAM felt a sense of pride wash over him as the girl sat in silence, he wasn't always great at reading people but he definitely felt like her silence was a good thing in this case. A soft chuckle leaving his lips when the girl finally broke her silence. "I - Thank you.." He stuttered a little, a goofy smile appearing on his lips as he grabbed a handful of cheetos and popped them into his mouth.
JULES tried to downsize her smile a bit so that she wouldn't look like a total goober. She grabbed a water and took a few sips, an idea popping into her head. "Want to just turn this into a full on jam session? I like to think I don't suck at singing." She giggled. "I definitely can't play the guitar though - you've seen me try." It was true, she had just complained about her fingers hurting. "Could be fun!"
SAM grabbed the water from her, taking a few sips himself while listening to the girl talking. "Yes, yes I have seen you try," He said with a soft chuckle, remembering the times he had tried to teach her and failed. "What do you want to sing?" He asked with a sweet smile.
JULES protested with a “hey!” And punched his arm when he stole the water from her. “I got you one you bumface.” She picked up the second water and set it beside him, stealing hers back and sipping it before she put it down. “Hmm...” the blonde had to think for a moment. “How about some Taylor Swift?”
SAM poked his tongue out playfully “Sharing is caring,” he laughed at himself, something he’d always been good at. “She’s got a new song with Sugarland, it’s called Babe and I’m obsessed,” he said with a smile before continuing “Which TSwift do you want to take on today?” He asked, pretty excited to hear Julia’s take on one of his favorite artists.
JULES rolled her eyes playfully, her brow quirking at his information. "What??? It's out? I have to hear it! You'll have to show me it later." She insisted, trying to think of which song she'd like to try. "Howabout Getaway Car?" She grinned.
SAM nodded excitedly as she questioned him. “Of course, I’ll have the chords down hopefully within a week so you’ve got till then to learn the lyrics,” he smirked, only half serious. “You know I’m always 100% down for getaway car.” A huge smile present on his face as he began to play the chords to the song.
JULES felt her smile tug at her lips as she rolled her eyes. "So rude." She teased, listening to the chords as she began to sing. She loved the melody and the softness of the song. As her voice rang out she watched Sam's fingers pick and strum at the guitar strings, glancing up at him occasionally.
SAM continued to strum at his guitar, keeping his eyes on Julia as she sang, as the she got to the chorus Sam joined in with her, harmonising before going silent again after the chorus. All the while not taking his eyes off of Julia, he couldn’t her voice filling the air made for a perfect moment.
JULES couldn't hide the fact that the warm, happy feeling grew as Sam's voice joined hers. Singing with him had always been one of her favourite things to do. Sure, she wasn't going to be one of the people who pursued music as a career, but it was something that made her heart happy. As the song came to an end, she leaned over and placed a kiss on the boy's cheeks. "That sounded so nice!"
SAM felt a smile continue to grow on his lips, he didn’t know what it was about them singing together that made him so happy but something did. “That was amazing,” he gushed, his smile now an incredible cheesy grin. “What can I say? Our voices sound great together.” He admitted, taking a few sips of his own water. “So..Those pictures..”
JULES stole a cheesy and grinned. They're voices really did sound incredible together, and it helped that they were able to harmonize so perfectly. She had gone to take a sip of water when he spoke, and some of it missed her mouth when she heard what he said. She wiped her chin and took a fast breath. "Um... yeah. The pictures..."
SAM let out a soft chuckle when the girl spilt her water, one of the things he loved most about Jules was that she was just as clumsy as he was. “I.. I don’t even know what to say.. I - They were amazing..” He managed to stutter out, thinking of a lot of others words to describe them.
JULES was distracted by an aggressively loud pounding sound. It took her a moment to realize it was her heart. Her stomach was fluttering and her cheeks were hot. This was.. a lot. "I.. thank you, Sam. I was nervous for you to see them." This wasn't a text message she could delete, she'd said it out loud.
SAM felt his stomach swirl as a blush rose on Julia’s cheeks, he’d seen her blush before of course but this time was different, more intense. Chewing a little at his bottom lip before speaking “Did you uh - send them to anyone else..?” He asked, immediately regretting his decision and trying to back track. “Actually - don’t answer that.. Why were you nervous?”
JULES was flustered, what was happening? She had feelings for him. If she were honest with herself she probably always had to some extent, but this was like an awakening. Was she in love with her best friend? "N-no, I didn't. Just you." She answered, taking a breath and anxiously tucking a fallen strand of hair behind her ear. "I guess, what you think means the most to me."
SAM took off his guitar, setting it down beside him and taking another few sips of water, honestly just trying to buy himself time to figure out what he was going to say. Trying desperately to keep whatever feelings he was feeling under wraps. “Oh..” He said, a sense of relief washing over him. “Well.. I thought you looked great - sexy as hell.” He admitted, his eyes falling down as his fingers picked at the seam of his jeans.
JULES caught her breath at the word sexy. Did he think of her that way? She turned slightly. "You... think I'm sexy?" She asked softly, their lack of eye contact showing just how awkward the two of them could be.
SAM continued to pick at his seam, had he used the wrong word? There was no going back now even if he had. “The photos were sexy.. and they were of you, does that answer your question?” He asked, looking up with a slight smirk. “Of course I think you’re sexy..” Now it was Sam’s turn to blush.
JULES didn't even know what to say, but the look in his eyes had her entire body tingling. A gulp and a deep breath. Where were her words? "I... wow." Smooth, Jules. "I think you are too.."
SAM let out a nervous chuckle, why was he feeling like this? “Thanks?” He said a hint of question in his voice. “Wanna go watch a movie?” He asked, looking up at her with a sweet smile.
JULES nodded immediately. "Yes. A movie sounds like a great idea." She smiled wide, grabbing the snacks and standing up to pick up the blanket.
SAM climbed to his feet, picking up his guitar and hanging it on his back. "Awesome." He smiled, picking up the blanket for her and dusting it off a little before folding it and making sure they hadn't left anything on the roof. "Ladies first."
JULES curtsied as a joke. “Why thank you, kind sir.” She winked and stepped through the window back into the house. They made their way to her room and she placed the snacks on her desk. “Whadya wanna watch?” She asked, climbing up onto her bed and pulling a pillow into her lap to hug it.
SAM shook his head a little, laughing as the girl curtsied before following her through the window and setting his guitar down on his bag. Climbing into bed beside her the boy thought over their choices for a minute before finally deciding “Thor,” he said with a little too much excitement in his voice, getting comfy next to the girl.
