Robots & Mistletoe - a FitzSimmons fic

Written for the lovely @mrsleopoldfitz​ for Fitzsimmons Secret Santa for the prompt "favorite Hallmark/holiday AU." I started with the Mistletones (which is a super cute ABC Family movie with a signing competition) but after I decided not to make Fitz sing, it all kind of went in a different direction. There are a few nods to the movie here, but it's pretty much all FS now. I hope you enjoy!

Summary:  When Fitz enters a competition to design a toy, he has no idea it will lead to his whole life changing for the better. Some robots, mistletoe, and an office romance are all it takes for Fitz and Jemma to get their happily ever after. No SHIELD AU.

Summary: Fitz turned to look at Jemma, and found her already waiting to catch his gaze. He raised his eyebrows the slightest bit, and she shook her head, small and grim. 

This whole mission was a hell of a lot to ask - but they didn't have much of a choice, did they? They would do it. 

At least they would be together.

(Or, Fitz and Jemma have a stressful mission on Christmas Eve - but together, they can get through anything.)

Here’s my FS+ Secret Santa piece for @manonne-is-drawing! You liked Vio and Shadow, so I drew them attempting to make a gingerbread house... attempting to. There’s also Red briefly looking at them through the window to make sure they haven’t destroyed the kitchen.

((There are also plain images of just the background, and the background and foreground but without Vio and Shadow, because I felt really proud of it and didn’t really want to cover it up with cHaRaCtErS.))

Fun facts about the background (and foreground, and character designs) under the cut! There are fifteen references/easter eggs/subtle headcanons in the image, if you want to try and find them.

- Red is in the window.

- The different points on the grocery and to-do lists are colored differently depending on who added them.

- The To-Do list taped to the cabinet has some slightly out-of-place add-ons, that don’t really fit a christmas theme. along with ‘decorate tree,’ ‘shopping,’ and ‘gifts,’ it also has ‘visit Erune’ and ‘replace Green’s reading lamp.’

-Other than Red in the window, there are also references to Green and Blue, and their forgetfulness:

- (Green left his necklace on the counter.)

- (Blue’s wallet is pinning down the grocery list)

- The bottles on the left are potions: health potion, stamina potion, and in the front, strength potion.

- The candies are all colored red, green, and blue... wonder why? A subtle nod to the other links, and a digital art joke.

- The bowl of gingerbread mix is purple... Red has different cooking supplies that match the colors of the other Links, so of course Vio and Shadow used that one.

- While everything else is written in Hylian, the instruction booklet for the gingerbread house was accidentally printed in English... which is why Shadow is having such a hard time reading it. It’s not his first language.

- The fireflies on the counter are ones that Green and Shadow caught the other night. They forgot to release them, but they’re planning to later.

- The grocery list has multiple references, and other than ‘eggs,’ ‘milk,’ and ‘gifts,’ it also has ‘new armor (Blue)’ as one item, and ‘octorock ink’ as another.

- ('New armor (Blue)’ is a reference to when I wrote an unposted oneshot about Blue breaking his armor repeatedly, in increasingly hilarious ways.)

- (’Octorock ink’ is a reference to one of my favorite incorrect quotes I found, where Blue beats an octorock up at the zoo because it was ‘being a dick,’ and he was covered in ink.)

- The gingerbread house is a drawn version of one I made in real life last year.

- Shadow is wearing yellow because wearing all black near Christmas seems a bit too ‘angsty,’ in Blue’s opinion. He chose a yellow sweater instead and actually really liked it.

- Vio’s sweater is a subtle reference to Ash’s dress in Sally Face.
