Log 240
FTL: What I have come up with to use as my next experiment is some sort of a lizard-hazer hybrid.
FTL: At first this idea sounds absurd, and it is rather absurd. But if I make the lizard be capable of producing the ink and shooting it whenever necessary instead of whenever damaged - as a hazer does - then it could very much be an interesting experiment.
FTL: I suppose I'll go with magenta lizards for this. The fact that they can climb poles should only help.
FTL: Now the question is, how do I implement the hazer's ink and the necessary (not actually mechanical) mechanics surrounding it. It's a matter of isolating the necessary group(s) of genes that directly affect and create the desired effect. Which, while may be a bit difficult, it shouldn't be all too much so.
FTL: Isolating particular groups of genes isn't all that much of a struggle. It's always been the invention of new genes that has stumped me. Either way, it should be fully within my capabilities to do so. Issue, as always, is modifying that group to behave exactly the way I wish for it to, without creating any genetics from the ground-up.
FTL: In the end, it is a matter of isolating, and then merging the modified isolated genes with those of a magenta lizard. Not all that much more difficult that many upon many of my previous experiments.
FTL: To further expand upon my goal with such an experiment, it is as follows: a near-typical magenta lizard with an extra defensive measure - which is, of course, the hazer's ink. Adding it shouldn't change all that much within the magenta lizard. Not many potential deviations.
FTL: The ink will be, as mentioned, a simple defensive measure. A backup. Though the lizard may very well utilise it for offensive purposes, such as to blind its prey before attacking it. Both possibilities are plausible.
FTL: I must admit that I most likely typically would not have thought of such an idea for an experiment, but I believe that I am running out of a viable ideas. They are, of course, a hypothetically-infinite resources, these ideas, but they're not all viable. Far from it.
FTL: Should be an interesting thing though. Just as all experiments are. Perhaps I'll learn something during it that will aid me in my quest to attain the knowledge that I should have already had.
FTL: I do not have much to say beyond that. The plans are rather simple, and nothing of importance has happened. At least, that I am aware of. I'm sure I'd know if it were important enough, right? Still, it doesn't particularly matter, for a vast multitude of reasons.
FTL: I will be conducting this experiment during the next cycle. And then after that, the loop starts over once more, I suppose. A part of me is considering reopening the Metal Rot experiment, if simply for the sake of curiosity. That's an issue for later on.
FTL: For now, I will simply carry on with my work, as always.
