The eight-day festival of Passover is celebrated in the early spring, from the 15th through the 22nd of the Hebrew month of Nissan. It commemorates the emancipation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. It often, but not always, coincides with the Judeo Christian celebration of Holy Week, leading up to Easter. This year's Passover celebration started at sundown today and goes through sundown April 16. While I have only participated in one Passover Seder so far, one of these years I'm going to celebrate it in my own home. Having had my DNA test done 3 years ago and finding out that I have Ashkenazi Jewish DNA was very meaningful to me. As a Christian, I happily claim my Jewish ancestry and honor it.
