Yoga for Stress and Anxiety
Hi Friends! Here’s the resources list from my “Yoga For Stress and Anxiety” Mini-Class that I taught earlier this month.
What Is Stress?
Stress is the body's reaction to harmful situations -- whether they’re real or perceived. When you feel threatened, a chemical reaction occurs in your body that allows you to act in a way to prevent injury. This reaction is known as "fight-or-flight,” or the stress response. During stress response, your heart rate increases, breathing quickens, muscles tighten, and blood pressure rises.

What is Anxiety?
Experiencing occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. However, people with anxiety disorders frequently have intense, excessive and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations. Often, anxiety disorders involve repeated episodes of sudden feelings of intense anxiety and fear or terror that reach a peak within minutes (panic attacks).

Terms to know
-Restorative Yoga: Comfortable postures assisted by props that allow the body and mind to fully relax.
-Yoga Nidra: Guided meditation for deep relaxation.
-Yin Yoga: Deep stretching to release tension held in the body. A very healing practice that can be challenging or uncomfortable for some practitioners.
-Pranayama: The aspect of yoga that involves breath and breathing
All of these practices are extremely helpful for anxiety and stress!
