And if ever lesbianism is used in the films, it is always in a distorted way."

okay so I‘M FINALLY READING SWORD CATCHER AND I HAVE THOUGHTS

I‘m only about halfway through but I need to rant

- it‘s incredible how well cassie manages to lend a unique voice to each of her characters every single time. she just doesn’t miss does she?

- lin caster is the awesomest girl. i just love her because she reminds me of other cc girls in the way that she is kind of a very typical heroine on the surface but you can actually feel her emotions and she’s very believable & flawed & human and you just can’t help rooting for her + i love her friendship with mariam

- everyone is bisexual & it’s completely normalised i love it here

- lin & conor??? apparently they are the flagship which I know because I took a peek at the tag after they had two scenes together because the ENERGY OMG

- ahh yes, conor 😌 another pretty man with issues who’s in a lot of trouble and likes to cover it up with sarcasm, pompous behaviour, fancy clothes & vanity- you just can’t help but love it

- but also he‘s the biggest prick and i want him to have some sense beat into him by everyone around him

- like he qualifies for a huge growth arc but it could also go downhill and turn into sth ugly

- the ragpicker king is just a cool dude who dresses emo and has people murdered on the regular i guess i love him. he’s hot. - kaz energy but also very different at the same time. can‘t wait to see more of him. and there’s def more to him.

- also no, andreyen, i don‘t understand either what people mean about ji-an having an off putting manner i‘m pretty convinced she‘s never done anything wrong in her entire life 💗except for the murder what murder

- kel can only be described as a calmly unhinged cinnamon roll. he reminds me a little of james (especially with his „mask“) but if you orphaned him & janked up the loyalty & sluttiness by a hundred

- like fr he is so confused just running around threatening and/or kissing people wtf 😭✋🏼 he just has chemistry with everyone he interacts with lol

- kel & conor remind me of matthew & james but if there was a big power imbalance and a everything is a little more fucked up 🙃

- generally the way power & power dynamics are portrayed and handled is very interesting i like it

- I adore merren just like everyone else, he‘s kind of giving a weird mix of christopher/matthew/wylan and I‘m here for it. plus: autism coded character yeass

- also nice to see some jewish rep. (i did not know cassie was jewish before lol) the ashkar are really interesting (& as far as their treatment by the rest of the world goes at times infuriating😤) to read about and add a lot of depth to the world building.

- i love how we see the complexities of their culture portrayed through lin who on the one hand is deeply ingrained in it and holds/has received a lot of love & care for/from her own people while also having been wronged & ostracised by them and how both can be true simultaneously

- as someone who‘s very familiar with multiple romance languages the languages in this book are incredibly entertaining to me

- SO MANY SECRETS & political intrigue hehehe rubbing my little hands together can’t wait for all this to escalate (because it most certainly will) 😈

bottom line

I’m really glad i finally started reading this.

it took me a while to get into it & I’m still holding out on a final judgement since it seems very slow but i’m a patient reader and i appreciate a good setup.

also I want a creepy black crocodile pool in my house now.

Favourite summer-themed photo of the Spanish Royal Family

The Spanish are definitely the busiest Royal Family during the summer months. They spend most of their time on Mallorca at Marivent Palace where they do engagements and sanctioned photo shoots. The Princess of Girona Awards also occur during the summer which is a personal highlight for me as this tends to be the time when we get to see Princess Leonor thrive the most.

yall it’s so funny that there’s now official in game evidence that Shiver and Frye (mostly Shiver) aren’t too fond of Inkopolis. got that vibe from Big Betrayal and had ended up using that characterization in my Mariver fic (screenshot below). I rarely write OOC and enjoy touching on the world building as I go! part of what makes fic writing fun for me is imagining how the characters exist in their world.

but also what specifically makes Splatsville artists have a rivalry with Inkopolis ones? I know about the bankara vs haikara thing as the city itself started booming after Chaos vs Order. what exactly happened with Shiver and Frye I wonder. Big Man seems to want collaboration as the true mediator he is. genuinely so interesting.

Hi I'm procrastinating so I'm gonna talk about ships right now yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

opinions on ships (Primarily focused around the agents I guess)

Agent 24: you know. You all already know.

Agent 12: I really like agent 12. I'll be honest, a lot of my opinions on the agent ships mainly comes from the dynamics between them more than anything. Which is why I like agent 12 a lot. I like the dynamic of "A putting up with B's shit" but in a light hearted way. You probably saw the agent 12 post I made like, yesterday. It's also the connecting over shared trauma thing.

Agent 32: I like this one as well. It's again, the dynamics in it. They connect by 4 helping 8 with adjusting to inkopolis, and then they just kind of...hit it off. it's the symbolism of the past healing. and inkling and octoling of a new generation coming together. it's nice

Agent 96: again, love this one, love the polycule, but personally I don't like it as much as 12, 32, and 24 because I feel like the themes I personally see in the ships individually aren't as prevalent when they're all at once. great ship, just not my cup of tea like the others.

Mari3: Really like this one also! mainly just cause...autism. I like how these 2 would connect after all the years of being agents. It's also developed in splat 3 with cap having Marie speak for them, and I just like that. it's fun. They trust Marie enough to communicate for them.

Calli3: I don't know my opinions on this, cause I have seen literally nothing about it. It sounds cute, very cheerful x stoic grump is a fun dynamic. (also another version of what I see a12 as)

the 'light inside' I imagine to be the Calamari Inkantation (yeah yeah, I know kinda basic) and, to me, the section elicits a sense of yearning almost? I would probably put imagery of what eight imagines the surface to be like here before crashing back down into the next section with imagery from the escape sequence.

2. Ouais Ouais - LemKuuja

my god do I love this song.

This would be a 24 or maybe 32 ship-animatic (or 96), mainly based on the lines right around 1:16;

the exact meaning of the lyrics doesn't really matter; it's an expression of attraction from the vocalist to a nondescript listener (at least that's how I interperet it? idk I'm kinda stupid and only just recently started learning japanese. anyone who's more familiar, feel free to correct me).

The way I envision this is 8 singing this to either 3 or 4 (or both), and them just ... not understanding it at all, being immensely confused. god paca, you're really hittin or out of the park with this one, really in-depth idea you got here, totally.

3. I hear a Symphony - Cody Fry

Animatic based on a Mariver fic I haven't written yet. Exact story deets aren't important, but the gist is that Shiver fishes (pun intended) Marie out of a post grandfest/rotm depression.

Courting a woman is the concern of all tomboys. From my personal experiences, the courting stage is similar to what any man does- love letters or notes, flowers and chocolates, invitations to movies and gatherings, and visits to the girl's family. During the courtship stage, the problem arises not with the girl but with her friends and family. These are the people that causes us headaches, sleepless nights, and heartaches. Rarely do we have girlfriends whose families and friends vote for us. They always disapprove, because they claim it is immoral for two women to fall in love. These are the people who are very much a parent of our society, which scorns and ridicules us as if we are pariahs. These are the people, and many of them are very religious, who believe white is white and black is black, who talk a lot about ethics and morality, and who think they are now somebody because they are not like us. These people treat us like intruders. They are the same people who called you deviant, the kid who appears to be so pious, so moralistic, that they appear not to have sinned at all. They are the kind who teaches their children to scorn and ridicule us.

Throughout the years I have suffered insults and derision. I have been treated with disgust by these people. I have grown callous to their insults behind my back; they dare not say them to my face, because I will always challenge them to a fistfight. I remember years back when my girlfriend and I were walking hand in hand in a downtown area and we passed by a group of men who were just standing there ogling people. One of them made an obscene remark, calling my girl "the whore of a tomboy." I saw an empty soft drink bottle, picked it up, broke it, and turned ack to where the group was sitting. I swung the broken bottle at one of them. My girlfriend was so frightened, she dragged me away form that place, but not before telling them to fuck themselves.

There are still lots of things to be said about lesbian life here in the Philippines. We're lucky here, because we don't get beaten up just because we wear men's clothing. But a tomboy who dresses like a man rarely finds a job that pays well. it is always the low-income positions that await them- security guards, janitors, cooks, messengers, carpenters, vendors."

Marie and Shiver first meet when Deep Cut is like trying to bandit everything in alterna right but oh my god imagine Marie's internal gay panic when she sees Shivers gay ass "Even sharks call me cold blooded..." and the flick of their fan?!?!?

To everyone else (except maybe Callie) she looks completely normal but on the inside Marie's heartbeat just skyrocketed and she's just standing there like :0

Deep Cut is too focused on making their presence known that Shiver doesn't really get to take in Marie's presence until they decide to work together and they realize agent 1 and 2 are THE squid sisters

I think Shiver would have had like a celebrity crush on Marie during the height of the squid sisters popularity and then it definitely dies down once they start promoting solo and taking a break from music, so when Shiver actually meets Marie - not Marie of the squid sisters - they're starting to crush on her for real

thankfully after deciding to team up, deep cut and the squid sisters aren't trying to splat each other for territory anymore so they start to hang out casually as friends

then that turns into just Marie hanging out with Shiver and eventually one of them starts joking about "oh we're going on a lunch date?"

and the other is like "haha yeah a date :)"

they wouldn't even realize they've been flirting with each other this whole time, they just have massive crushes on each other and are too caught up in liking the other person they dont even think about if the other likes them back

i think Shiver would be the one to say something first because they just can't hold it back anymore and they tell Marie, "You're incredible and I really like you in more than a friend way, but it's okay if you don't feel the same-"

Marie has to interrupt like, "wait- you like me? I thought I was the one liking you??"

and they laugh and realize they've been so oblivious to the other person's flirtatious behavior (bc both of them are kind that way in general around anyone)

after they talk about their silly little crushes on each other they officially ask each other out and start formally "dating" as significant others <3

bonus: callie and frye have been meeting up with each other while mariver is on their not-dates and talking about how the two of them are so in love but they are absolutely oblivious, so they make a bet, frye saying shiver will confess first, callie saying marie will confess first, and whoever wins gets all you can eat crusty sean's for a day. frye is obviously very happy with her win.

Scrap It Saturday

Im not even gonna make this a weekly thing or w/e i just want an excuse to share this bit im cutting out of my next mariver fic bc i changed the pacing

One: Shiver's hands were rough. Marie figured it must have been all the callouses from dealing with rough shark skin that made each grapple feel like sandpaper. Their grip was painful, and they knew it. Two: Shiver wasn't holding back. They weren't joking. They were clawing and punching and shoving like their life depended on it. Was this what it took to swim with the sharks? Three: Shiver was pissed. This fight was obviously to let off steam, but this steam seemed to have been bubbling for a while, building up that pressure inside of them. Marie shuddered to think who could get them so angry without them biting their head off.

Four: As tough as Shiver was, they were getting rather predictable. They tended to aim for her face; moreso her eyes. They were definitely a weak spot, but not an easy one to go for. It left Marie's feet open to retaliate.
