Hi hermette!! I love your blog. I’m pretty new to HC but it’s so fascinating!! One thing I don’t get is the convex. Like I don’t know what it means and everyone else does. When did it start? What is it? Why are they so chaotic? Could you give us a brief history?

Looks like we’re hanging out in Season 5 for a bit.

First of all anon, allow me to point out that the Convex as you likely know it is largely a fandom creation. The lack of lore (or so it would seem) in Hermitcraft causes artists and writers to latch onto every scrap of story that they are provided, and as such-much like is the case with Evil Xisuma-the line between canon and commonly accepted fanon is extremely blurry. It's highly likely that "everyone" knows about as much about the real Convex as you do, including myself!

That said, there is some information that I can provide that might help clear up the differences.

Who are the Convex, and why are they so chaotic?

The story begins very early in Season 5. This was the first season in which the Hermits played with the idea of mob head drops augmented by data packs, and collecting them was very exciting! Cub in particular had quite the collection, and one of the last objectives on his list was a Vex head. Tango helped him out with getting a few, he gave one to Scar while helping him out with a project, and the two tried them on...inexplicably, they began to feel mischievous. And on helium. Hmm. Suddenly the idea of pranking every active member of the server seemed very, very appetizing...

Over the course of Season 5, The Convex indeed managed to prank every single active member of Season 5. A short list includes (but is not limited to):

1. The Red Sky Bay of Pigs (Joe) and the Cow Clowns (Zedaph), which technically occurred before the Convex were a thing but are included in the final count.

2. The Jurassic Park entrance to the NHO Jungle

3. A guardian inside a guardian inside a guardian inside a guardian inside Mumbo's guardian farm

4. The flying saucer run by cows that abducted Stress's swamp

5. Suitably dousing the evil overlord Tango in several layers of ice

6. The anti-grassification mycelium pirates?

7. The Convex Cathedral

8. Bumbo Vexoni and the resulting Rencat

Technically, Cub and Scar have not donned the Vex heads since Season 5. But they are still very much burned into Hermitcraft lore as most of the fans know it, from the crashed spaceship that brought them to Season 6 to the familiar-sounding Concorp that had a giant Vex likeness on its campus, an evoker guarding the front door, and a meeting room run by parrots. While ever further diluted into Season 7 some of the themes do still persist-such as the previously discussed repetition of HEP-and are fed by Cub's particularly...cryptic sense of humor.

Fans of the Convex lore, both canon and fanon, still hope for a return. Season 8, mayhaps?
