#SoulfulSundays **Click link in bio to watch the full video** 👆🏽✨ . Happy Sunday, Loved Ones! . As a songwriter, I'm often trying to figure out how I can musically express my emotions, & my 'response', if you will, to what's going on around me. . As we look at our country's current state of events, and I consider the generations before me; my mama, my grandmother, our ancestors who have survived The Civil Rights Movement, Slavery, Segregation, and so much more, it can be hard to find hope when you see history repeating itself over and over again. . HOWEVER, when you consider what all of our ancestors have been through-worse than what we are experiencing now-and they, somehow, survived? To me, that gives me hope. <3 . AND, when I consider that I'm the ONLY person who can steal (or keep) my joy? It makes me turn off the news for a moment, straighten my shoulders, remember who I am and what my purpose is- and walk a little prouder, sing a little louder, and live to fight another day. . Now, not all of our ancestors 'survived'....and I sure don't have all the answers to our problems... . But, if I may, I'd like to create music that empowers us, and reminds us of the beauty that's within. . And that nothing- not Trump, not Congress, not all of the 'powers that be'- can steal my powerful blackness, my beauty, my strength, and my JOY from me. .
