Life in Dreamlight Valley: It's Animal Crossing but Disney, Right?
Short answer: Kinda! Long answer: Read on...
(Questions? Check the pinned post first!)
If you're just arriving in the Valley via Dodo Airlines, welcome! I think you're gonna like it here. If, like me, you spent a lot of time in New Horizons before eyeing this game, here are some key things to keep in mind as you get started.
This got a bit long so going behind a cut. tl;dr: I think you will like it, especially if you have fond memories of Disney stuff from your youth. (In fact, "was pretty much raised by Disney and is now an adult" sums up the target audience and is explicitly the Protagonist's backstory.) It's a much bigger and much deeper game than I expected, which is a good thing. Will definitely help fill the Tom Nook-shaped hole in your heart.
(Also don't time travel.)
Quests: Very yes. Pretty much every time something is introduced, there's a lengthy quest line to go with it.
Plot: Also very yes. Surprise! Even more surprise, it deals with some heavy stuff: trauma, isolation, depression, making amends, etc. One particular quest has a content warning, and it earned it. Mostly, though, you're playing as the competent, well-adjusted adult who is good at solving problems (because this is an escapist fantasy after all.)
Playtime: Definitely designed to be slow and steady. (There's a "go touch grass" warning on the main loading screen.) Quests and tasks sometimes have requirements that make you wait before you can begin/proceed, anywhere from a few minutes to seven actual, factual days. Don't try to rush it, you'll just be frustrated
Terraforming: Nope. Landscaping items like trees and rocks are infinite, though
Fruit trees/bushes: Set number from the start. Get new ones by opening areas (and one from a quest). Can be moved, but that's it
Crafting/cooking: They're here. There's a stamina mechanic, so food has more uses than just display or gifting (though it's very much for that, too)
Resource spawns: Frequent. Very. Remember how in ACNH, you could reach a point where you had cleared all those pesky branches and mined all your rocks and gathered all your other stuff and now you are done for the day? Yeeeeaaaahhh, not here. (I will have another post on figuring out your "that's it for today" signals.)
Time travel: DO NOT. It will corrupt your save file and may make some quests impossible to complete. Also may force you to delete your save and start over. The game is not designed to accommodate it. Don't touch your system clock.
Game camera: Moves 360! This is both blessing and curse
Phone camera: Takes primarily selfies or full body shots. It's possible to get a shot without you front and center, but the camera for that is hot garbage. No photo studio, sadly. Maybe someday.
Interior design: Oh man, get ready. Your house is upgradeable up to twenty floors, with four rooms each. And you can have more (single floor) houses! Be warned, though, thus far the floor/wallpaper options are kinda boring.
Villagers: Set pool, unlocked by advancing the story or exploring realms. Cannot kick them out once they've arrived, though there are ways to cope with the crappy ones.
Birthdays: None! Not even yours! It's a bummer.
Moving major structures: No multiday Isabelle scams here. Just go into decorator mode and go nuts!
Museum: Nope, sadly. But in exchange we get animal companions that follow you around and pose cutely for pictures. And yes, you can pet them.
Pocket/backpack space: A pain. Can be upgraded, for a cost that will seem exorbitant when you first get the option
Dropped items: Stay put until picked back up. Beware of dropping too many at once, as it can make the game start to bug out. Also, clothing/furniture exist in a separate inventory and thus cannot be gifted, sold, or given to other players. I KNOW.
Shop: Basically the same as Nook. Fairly small inventory, refreshes daily. Although once you've bought everything of one particular item type, that whole display goes away, apparently?
Premium shop: Yes, you can spend real money on this game. But items rotate weekly (meaning if you pass on something this week it will come back around--eventually, probably) and the game provides a reasonable trickle of the premium currency, so it's not the worst. Good news, you're now very easy to buy gifts for.
Item customization: Exists, but subject to some rather clunky limitations.
Multiplayer:  Basically the same as ACNH, except you can choose where people enter. Unlocked by a quest, natch. There's also a weekly photo contest where you can vote on others' submissions for premium currency.
Seasonal events: Seems to be the standard ones. Haven't experienced them yet myself because DO NOT TIME TRAVEL. Also there are periodically Star Paths, where you can earn new stuff by completing tasks.
New free content: Added regularly! Seems to be roughly every two or three months. Major content, too, like new realms and characters.
DLC: Pretty good! It's largely the same mechanics (introduces one new one plus a minigame) just more: new biomes, new items, new quests, new characters, new reasons this place is so messed up. I think it's a pretty good purchase, unlike HHP which I was meh on.
Systems: Multiple! There are some quirks, like Playstation can't do cross-system play and Switch gets the dry heaves when there are too many objects to render. Given the sometimes tiny text, Steam Deck is my platform of choice.
Community: Awesome! There is an official Discord server [here], and an unofficial wiki [here]. Both are active, well-maintained, and very helpful for players, especially new ones.
That's about it. Come play with us!

M&M'S Headcanons : What they do on a Minecraft server
Tumblr media
Blue is an absolute MENACE on a server. From building noise machines under people's homes to trying to crash the server with an excessive amount of TNT, his idea of a fun time includes lots of pranks and annoying people. His target of choice is Orange, who always has funny reactions. But don't worry, he IS a civilized man and will not actively destroy people's builds. He might build the most hideous monstrosity known to men right next to their house to ruin the view though, after all SOMEONE has to keep the rent down in the area.
Brown saw a fun game about mining and crafting with your friend and thought "How can I introduce capitalism to this world?". She is really into redstone and optimizing resource collection. She has built farming machines for pretty much everything you could need, and has committed countless atrocities against villagers. She doesn't share freely though, people have to trade with her, often with rare things she can't bother farming like elytras or high quantity of blocks. Other spokescandies have made it a game to try and infiltrate her base to steal her ressources, which means she has many redstone security measures around her place.
Green really likes building, and she's really good at it! She has made entire cities with different themes and aesthetics, and always has a construction project in the work. She really likes making holiday themed decorations at different times of the year, and always tries to convince the others to play along and build something of their own. Since she needs a lot of blocks from different biomes and is always looking for nice scenery for her builds, she's often exploring around the map, and has made a giant system of ice roads in the nether that the whole server uses. Her worst 'enemy' is Blue, who loves to build ugly dirt houses next to her builds.
Orange is... not a big fan of minecraft. He likes it alright, but he's not really into building and he's scared to go into the mines. Most of his time is spent above ground, making big farms, making him the one other players go to to get food. The little exploring he does is going to different biomes to get all kinds of animals and build a zoo. He's not very good when it comes to building pretty stuff, so Green helped him a bit. On his own, he probably wouldn't be playing, but he sees it as a nice bonding opportunity and loves going on VC and having nice conversations with his friends.
Red is here to WIN. He was preparing to fight the ender dragon from the start, immediately going to mine for diamonds. He wants to have the best equipment possible, trying to get the strongest enchantments for his armor and weapons. He always has an objective he's working towards : first the ender dragon, then the wither, then collecting rare things like elytras, etc. He sometimes joins Blue in doing pranks, but his are a bit more destructive and deadly to other players. He also organizes little PVP battles on the server, which he wins most of the time (except once where Orange beat him by sheer dumb luck, no one lets Red live it down).
Yellow likes to farm. He finds it relaxing to just break blocks for hours while talking to his friends. He has really good enchanted armor and tools that Red gave him (he says he just had them laying around and didn't need them anymore, but everyone knows he made them for him). Green often uses him to terraform places or to go collect resources, building a cute house in exchange. His base is full of dogs and cats he found all over the map, each with their own name tags, and he has colored sheeps named after all the other spokescandies.

Yo.
I lied again.
So, I thought of this when I saw a post of an “AU?” for Animal Crossing.
Basically Redd is a good and nice fox, and not the con-artist that he is known for.
I decided to make an AU for Animal Crossing.
Why? Why not.
I don’t know a lot about the series, so I’ll stick with New Horizons for now.
Before you keep reading, some warnings:
1. Feedback, corrections and more ideas are greatly appreciated.
2. I’ll do a couple of head canons. I might add more as time goes by.
3. If you don’t like any of this ideas, well, I’m not sorry- Nah, joking. Tell me your reasons and the changes you would do.
4. I will do some extreme changes. From the objective of the game, some mechanics and characters, etc.
That’s it. Enjoy I guess.
* The Animal Crossing series focuses more on developing a goal and trying to work with the obstacles that might come your way.
* In New Horizons you have your own island that was “gifted” to you and must be developed to become a sustainable and good place to live for your villagers. This includes having shops, schools, police station, workplaces, etc. Like building your own city.
Mechanics:
* The player must build and set each building and any extra decoration they might want on their own, just like in the original game. They can also terraform.
* DIY exists but they can only be made by your villagers. For this you must ask them, (sometimes) give them the items to craft and (if your friendship level is too low) make a task for them beforehand so they are willing to make them for you.
* If you don’t have the items you can go to the shop and buy it, but it will cost you bells.
* You can grow trees, flowers, fruits, etc., on your own.
* The fruits and vegetables can be used to make dishes that you can eat or give them to your villagers to increase your friendship level.
* Flowers and anything that you purchase can be used as a gift.
NPCs (oh boy...):
* Blathers runs the museum in your town. He is relatively normal, but he hates anything that has to do with fish but loves bugs (surprising, I know). You can also give him flowers, vegetables, fruits and even trees (he will give you some data about it). If you give him art he will accept it unless is hunted.
* Redd is the main vendor in your island. He likes making silly jokes and will buy anything that you give him (even hunted artwork, but he will be sad). Always has a relax expression in his face and is willing to give you tips about what to do and how to progress in your island.
* Tom Nook, Timmy and Tommy are the “troublemakers” in your island. They will arrive and place their tent somewhere randomly and will start to take the decoration and move it to different locations, destroy your trees, crops, flowers, etc., vandalize your buildings, make your villagers angry, etc. You can buy art and some artifacts from them, but the art could be hunted (never fake, in Tom Nook words’s he has “way too much pride to go as low as that!”) and might be overpriced.
* I don’t know about Isabelle.
*The able sisters basically switch roles. That’s it. Ah, but Label is in a bad relationship with her sisters and it will be the player’s decision to help them or not (this will affect the gameplay) and their parents are alive! They send letters every other day.
* The dodo brothers (can’t remember their names) send and deliver letters. The dodo airlines is now a post office.
* The pelicans trio (can’t remember them either) run an airline now. One is the pilot, the other is the receptionist and maybe the third will tell you about the island you are send to or something like that.
* Flick and CJ also switch roles. Try to think that their personalities and color pallets are switched but their outfits stay the same (they might have some changes as well). Also, Flick is still an artist, but he loves fish and bugs not-so-much.
* Daisy Mae is the one who sells turnips. No change. She might have a different personality and outfit, but that’s it.
Villagers:
* You can talk to your villagers, send letters and gifts, do tasks for them, etc. Not much changes.
* The male villagers personalities can be Normal, Peppy, Brotherly(?)/Uchi and Snooty.
* The female villagers personalities can be Smug, Jock, Cranky and Lazy.
* Their names and faces don’t really change, as well as their color. But their outfits can.
* The villagers tend to be a bit passive-aggressive, especially the “pretty ones” (Marshal, Merengue, Raymond). But the most kind and sweet are the “ugly villagers” (Barold).
* The villagers are the only ones that can craft and depending on their personalities and your level of friendship with them you might have to give them the items to craft, wait more or less and do a task for them.
This is all for now.
I might add more details and even more characters but this is all for now.
Thanks for reading and “enjoying”? Maybe?
See you next time.

My Thoughts On: Animal Crossing New Horizons
Hi there! Alex here, late to the party as usual. I know that New Horizons came out, what, 3 years ago? I bought the game late, and only the other day finally attended my first K.K. Slider concert and officially "finished" the game! I figured it's better late than never, and I should go ahead and write out some of my thoughts on the game.
So first things first, the game's avatar is so customizable and I love it. Never before have I enjoyed making my character more than this game! Between the actual character and all the clothes you can collect, there's so many options, and that's not even counting the custom designs you can make!
The game sets you down on a deserted island where you have to forge a new life along with a few other lucky participants, all funded by one Tom Nook, life-long entrepreneur and loan shark. Step one is to set up camp, but pretty soon you'll be taking out a loan on your first house, and the other residents will volunteer you as the Resident Representative, sort of like a mayor! (that was nice of them...) After that, its up to you to invite new residents to live on the island, pick a place for their home, decorate/care for the island's scenery, and eventually set up shops and other buildings. From that point it progresses a lot like any other Animal Crossing game, opening new shops and making money off of fish, insects, etc to buy new things for your house and new clothes to wear. Something new to New Horizons is the DIY crafting bench where you can use materials to craft your own furniture, tools, etc. Its a pretty streamlined system in my opinion, and it adds to the interactive aspect of living on this island.
As time goes on, Tom Nook reveals to you that he has plans to make the island nice enough to invite famous musician K.K. Slider to perform a concert there! To achieve this, he has you set up new plots of land to invite more residents, and Isabelle, the assistant, gives you advice on improving the islands scenery until you have at least a 3 Star Rating, and Nook invites K.K. to perform! When K.K. Slider arrives to perform his concert, he sings an adorable Animalese rendition of the title theme as the staff credits roll, and afterwards Nook tells you that K.K. loved the island so much that he wants to perform there every Saturday night! From that point on you can unlock new tools to terraform your island and truly make it the best it can be, along with unlocking places like The Roost cafe where you can scan an amiibo to invite various characters to hang out for coffee, even special characters that don't otherwise appear in New Horizons! Life is yours to live, and you can live it to the fullest!
I've only sunk about 80 hours into this game so far, but I can easily see myself aiming for the hundreds as I continue to shape my island and finish filling the museum exhibits. I also decided I want to try and make a cat-themed island with only cat residents, so I may need to evict a few people if I can find some cats... no matter! I've greatly enjoyed my time on my island, and so have many other people! This game is an easy 5/5 stars for me! Such a fun, cute, cozy game to relax with after a long day!
Thanks for reading, and be sure to ask questions and suggest new post ideas in my ask box! Stay safe, stay hydrated, and God bless! Happy gaming to ya!

today was a far more productive day in animal crossing in terms of working on my island! i finally rebuilt part of my island that i did at the end of winter as none of it matched anymore since the ground and trees turned green, and to be honest i’m happy with how it is how. it involved a lot of terraforming and some tommyinnit to get through though heh.
Tumblr media
and for once i ended up building another staircase (stone staircase, 168,000 bells) which left a pretty big dent in my funds for my loan but it’ll be worth it eventually. note to self: i am very bad at terraforming.
Tumblr media
the place itself used some flooring codes from Bridgy (MA-4585-0239-6078) to make an outdoor decking and staircase, and i finally made some custom stalls!! i’d been putting off crafting them for an idea for a while and finally caved in. my plan now is to make an outdoor diner space somewhat inspired by a honey themed event that happened in pocket camp last year.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i love the new mushroom platforms from the mario update, i’ve been using them all around my island recently and i wish we had more of them (even smaller mushrooms, mushrooms that don’t come from mario etc). when it was mushroom season i didn’t play as much so only had one or two recipes so it’s nice to be able to have the mushroom cottagecore aesthetic without having to wait until autumn.
Tumblr media
i spent a lot of the night trying to get to 100 fish in a row, my record has been 86 but recently i’ve just. really struggled to not mess up. for someone in exam season i sure am focusing on the wrong things-
Tumblr media
one other thing: i didn’t realise that pumpkins were gonna grow year round (and as a goth i definitely was gonna keep those pumpkin decorations around year round) i ended up hoarding stacks of pumpkins in storage and only realised today. managed to sell them for 86,000 bells 👁👄👁
i hope everyone’s having an amazing day!

Animal Crossing Embarks to New Horizons
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the fifth installment in the Animal Crossing franchise. As the first entry of the series on the Nintendo Switch, it has been one of the most anticipated releases in the last year, along with Pokemon Sword and Shield. However, in an unanticipated twist, the game came out when most of the planet was either preparing to head into or were already in lockdown due to a global pandemic. The premise is that you’re moving from an implied metropolitan life to a deserted island to escape your worries. Unlike previous games in the series, there is no town when you arrive - you literally build it from the ground up, even being able to terraform the island to your whims later in the game. Otherwise there is no real storyline. Animal Crossing doesn’t have a plot, but you build a community through completing menial tasks like fishing, fossil excavation, gardening and bug catching. These tasks reap rewards, like fish, bugs and fossils which you can donate to the museum, or sell for bells (the in-game currency). You can use the bells to pay off your debt to  your friendly mortgage broker and head of island infrastructure,Tom Nook.
Tumblr media
While the artstyle remains relatively unchanged, it is clear from looking at screenshots of the older games (even the last game in the franchise: New Leaf) there has been a big graphics upgrade. No longer are rooms decorated with flat textured wall art or black voids. My favourite example of this is the aquarium and bug rooms in the museum. The bug room has a lot more details with the addition of bugs and fish from different sections appearing in the other rooms. Meanwhile, the aquarium seems more interactive, with a walkthrough tunnel section which is very reminiscent of NausicaĂ€ Centre National de la Mer in Bologne, France. The game uses the same visual trick from previous games where, when you're walking outside, the land behind you falls over the horizon out of view of the player.  The gameplay has mostly remained the same, as has the actual gameplay loop. However, there are some changes in New Horizons, which make it easier to save up bells to pay off mortgages or pay for infrastructure etc. The inclusion of the crafting system, which I am mostly ambivalent about. Narratively it makes sense; you are literally making something from nothing on a deserted island and it gives you more of an incentive to shake trees and own an axe. The amount of times I’ve had to run home because my shovel/ fishing rod/net has broken and I don’t want to always be carrying sticks, hardwood or metal ingots with me.  Another change is the Nook Phone. This is an in-game smartphone that allows you to keep track of crafting recipes, Nook Miles critters and patterns. These features are a massive improvement to quality of life. For example, the Critterpedia tells you if you have submitted a particular fish or bugs to Blathers the Museum Curator. This is helpful as now you know what critters you’re missing without having to slowly walk through the museum with a notebook and pen.  Another addition to the game is Nook Miles, which is a new secondary form of in-game currency. Initially, you use Nook Miles to pay off your mortgage, but then they are used to buy recipes not available in the shop. Also you can use Miles to buy tickets which allow you to visit other islands where you can get different non-native flowers, trees, and fruits, as well as giving you a higher chance of catching rare fish.  That said the game is not without its drawbacks. This game is a massive time sink, and while right now this should not be an issue, in normal society it would be hard to access certain game features due to a busy schedule, work and school. For example, there are certain types of bugs and fish which only appear between 9 pm and 4 am. This is fine if you are playing as an adult, but this game has an age rating 3. I don’t know any parent that's going to let their younger child play this after 9 pm at night. Additionally, these post-9 pm catches tend to be some of the rarest in the game, meaning you can play this game until midnight trying to catch a snapping turtle because you can have one as a pet. It is entirely possible that a child could have a generous parent who plays on their behalf after 9 pm, but from experience this is probably not the case for most parents. Meaning some objectives like completing the museum will never be finished without either cheating or breaking your parent’s rules. Another criticism that I have is that the in-game events go on for too long. This might be because at the time of writing I have spent a fortnight digging up eggs, but a week is long enough for an event to run, eight days at most allowing space for two weekends for those with busy jobs. Something that could fix this is that the event could run for a fortnight, but if the player finishes everything earlier than that point, then they get the event to stop and only reoccur on the final day. Therefore, it doesn’t get in the way of other aspects of the game - like fossil hunting (I am so done with earth eggs).  As a whole, I found Animal Crossing: New Horizons to be a fun and relaxing game, with its release being at an ideal time. There have been some massive quality of life improvements to the game which just makes it more addictive. While there are some small issues; however they are mostly minor irritations which makes them stand out in an otherwise great game.  Read the full article
