Festive celebrations are a good way to work through your beer collection. Last night we hosted a little gathering to share the joy of good friends and beer. We started with a Keeper, a hoppy American Pilsner by Mikkeller on its own to warm up the beer buds. The cheese arrived and needed pairing so the logical choice was a local favourite Four Winds Saison Brett. The tart, fruity, spiciness of a beer aged in Okanagan red wine barrels paired well with Ross’ selection of Cashel blue, Boerenkaas Dutch farmhouse, Pecorino Toscano Fresco, farmhouse brie, fig loaf and Alan’s home-made hit, Labneh. Off Colour's��Fierce Berliner Weisse, despite the furious wort, was a happy sweetly sour transition to the big beer. Lompoc's C Note Imperial IPA stood up to Annette's capacious curation of Oyama sausages. After rinsing with Prosecco we landed on the Bomb - Prairie Artisan Ales Imperial Stout aged on Nordaggios coffee, cacao nibs, vanilla beans and chili peppers which was to die for with Lisa’s Bourbon-infused Pecan Pie.
