Welp, it’s Football Season. Which means fun football games and tailgating parties at Valley Children’s Stadium.
I saw an old piece from 2017 and wanted to make a new version of it. This is a fun way to celebrate our Fresno State Bulldogs.

Fresno State: 2023 New Mexico Bowl Champions
Tumblr media
Mikey Keene threw for 380 yards and three touchdowns Saturday as Fresno State walloped New Mexico State 37-10 to win the New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque.
Keene completed 31 of 39 passes with an interception. He also contributed a rushing touchdown for the Bulldogs (9-4), who looked more like the team that was ranked in the top 25 earlier in the season instead of the one that limped into the bowl with a three-game losing streak.
Fresno State won despite the absence of head coach Jeff Tedford, who took a leave of absence on Dec. 1 to address a medical condition. Assistant coach Tim Skipper ran the program and extracted one of its top performances of the season.
The Bulldogs outgained the Aggies 500-200, nearly doubling them in first downs (23-12) and converting 8 of 13 third downs. Malik Sherrod was a workhorse for Fresno State, rushing for 90 yards on 20 carries and catching eight passes for 81 yards.
New Mexico State (10-5) won 10 games for just the second time in school history but couldn’t cope with its Mountain West Conference foe. Diego Pavia completed only 11 of 25 passes for just 58 yards, although he did rush for 74 yards and the team’s only touchdown.
The Bulldogs carved out a 17-3 halftime lead. Dylan Lynch hit a 32-yard field goal with 6:17 left in the first quarter and Keene connected with Josiah Freeman for a 28-yard touchdown pass less than three minutes later.
Ethan Albertson got the Aggies on the board with a 45-yard field goal in the second quarter but Keene and Jaelen Gill hooked up for a 23-yard scoring strike at the 7:02 mark to up the margin to 14 points.
After Lynch converted a 25-yard field goal just over three minutes into the third quarter, Pavia got New Mexico State within 20-10, spinning off tacklers on a 14-yard scoring run.
But Keene’s 4-yard touchdown run with 13:20 left in the game fueled a 17-point fourth quarter that put the game away.

Do you have a list of named cities/provinces/prefectures/etc from your TPOF(ATGIF) and AEIWAM fusion universe or do you just kinda make them up on the spot? You've mentioned a few, Los Osaka and Santa Hiroshima, but I'm fascinated by the concept of them.
I make them up as I go by Badly Translating Californian names to Japanese and Vice Versa, using established fusion names like from Big Hero 6 and Ace Attorney, portmanteau-ing smaller Californian and Japanese Cities with the aim of creating the most ridiculous sounding names possible. Examples include:
San Fransokyo Bay Area:
Massively Overpriced Silicon Valley Satellite Cities Takai ki, Yamaview, and Chūkan Mizūmi
The Three Saint Cities San Juku, San Buya and San Jose
Controversial Football team the Kashiwa Raiders
Farther down the coast:
Beautiful Ōkī Minami State Park, famous for it's Coastline and Condors
Fresno
Ō no yama, home of the World-Famous Kandzume wharf and Aquarium
Los Osaka Basin:
Saratogasaki, famous for it's Horse Races
Kanmuri Tani, famous for its Orange Farms
Bakersfield, infamous for being Bakersfield
Griffon Park in Hiiragi Shinrin, right below the big sign where the Golden Eagle-Mountain Lion hybrids sometimes hang out.
Los Osaka Castle, one of the oldest standing buildings in Nihofornia, which is really impressive given all the earthquakes, Kaiju Events and that time the Spanish took over it in the 1760's and in recognition of the fact that they absolutely should not have been able to do that, briefly renamed the fortress Mission Imposible.
Santa Hiroshima:
Ichigo's Karakura town is actually a Satellite city of Santa Hiroshima, located farther Inland, between the Asa Zoo Safari Park and Imo Hakuhen Rock.

japanese american paul holden lore that beamed itself into in my brain as soon as ryo made his debut
his mom: Kimi Takahashi, born in 1921, grew up on a farm in Fresno.
his dad: Frank Horikawa, born in 1919, grew up in LA and graduated college around six months before america entered world war ii
both Kimi and Frank are the children of Japanese immigrants (part of the Nisei generation)
Frank grows up as this all-American city boy and doesn’t speak much Japanese while Kimi is a little more connected to her roots.
they meet in 1942 after Executive Order 9066 is issued and they are forcibly relocated to the Japanese American incarceration camp in Rohwer, Arkansas
they get married in camp in early 1945 (a few months before the camps start to close down)
Frank americanizes their last name to “Holden” shortly after leaving Rohwer and Kimi starts going by “Kim” at his request
Paul is born in 1947 shortly after his parents resettle in Tulsa
Kim wanted to give paul a japanese first name (i am leaning toward Isamu) but his dad refused
Frank is very much trying to distance himself and his family from their heritage in an attempt to fit in and provide his wife and child the best life he can
Kimi was closer to her heritage growing up and has a more positive relationship with her ethnicity but reluctantly follows her husband’s example because it’s the 40s/50s/60s and she is playing the role of the devoted housewife
(this is a story about generational trauma!!)
but like. Paul is very much the all-american boy. he is a star football player and he gets good grades and his dad’s a self-made businessman and his mom’s the perfect housewife and yet he feels so different from his peers in a way he’s never quite felt able to acknowledge
in 1960 there were 749 Japanese families in the entire state of oklahoma and “the number of Asian residents [in oklahoma] did not increase dramatically until the 1970s,” so Paul is this all-american boy who grows up very isolated from people who look like him, and growing up, the very few other asian people who he is aware of (notably Two-bit’s family) are on the other side of the class divide
but like, he is very much a Soc and is definitely accepted in that group of almost entirely white kids (myth of the model minority and everything) but there is still this otherness about him that makes him feel very isolated
and i think he does find himself kind of jealous of someone like Two-bit who doesn’t seem to be trying to blend in and who is fine with existing as he is. but Paul’s dad is very much using assimilation into american society to deal with the trauma of the wwii era and paul is raised on that principle
i don’t really want to play into the stereotype of the strict Asian parent, but i do think that Paul’s dad sets these very high expectations for him as a defense mechanism/an attempt to force his family into the status of the “model minority.” As a successful and wealthy Japanese American businessman in 1960s Oklahoma, he has to be twice as perfect to be taken as seriously as a white man, and he wants his son to be successful, too, so he drills that message into Paul’s head from a pretty early age.
and i think that probably fucks Paul up a little. for years he doesn’t really get why his dad’s expectations are so high and he feels like he’s never going to be good enough and he is a teenage boy in the 60s so he doesn’t know how to like. express an emotion and his feelings of inadequacy come out as resentment and anger that is often directed towards his dad
Paul grows up not knowing about the incarceration and how/where his parents met but his mom very casually mentions something about it when he’s around 15-16 and he’s like ??? and so she explains some stuff to him and he is understandably shocked and above all pretty pissed at his dad for keeping this huge thing from him for so long
so that night he and Darry get drunk together and he starts off just being like “FUCK my dad fr” but then he kind of like actually talks about his relationship with his race and his heritage for the first time
(i wrote a fic about this you can read it here!)
his dynamic with Darry is like. they are both jealous of each other in this very abstract way because neither one of them feels like they belong anywhere but there is also something extremely homoerotic about it. they kind of allow themselves to be more soft and open with each other and it’s clear they have a bond that none of the other Soc boys share
I think after Paul finds out about his parents’ past (and after he sleeps off the ensuing hangover) he goes snooping and finds a box of old photos and stuff from their time in Arkansas and there’s this photograph from their wedding and they are clearly in this like kind of rundown recreation center/high school gym-type space and their clothes are nothing fancy but they look more in love than he’s ever seen them and it’s this really surreal experience that makes him feel a little sick so he puts the box back and pretends he never saw it
when he and Darry stop being friends he loses the only person he’s ever been able to talk to about the things that matter and he becomes pretty closed off emotionally and doesn’t really allow himself to feel anything real and tries twice as hard to assimilate
Joining the other Soc boys in jumping greasers and wreaking general havoc is kind of a coping mechanism for the debilitating anger that he is constantly feeling but it’s also an unsuccessful attempt to fit in with these all-American boys
He tries so so hard to fit in and never really feels like he belongs, especially after he and Darry stop being friends
idk there is just something so purposeful about the choice to have a Japanese American actor portray this character and i think there’s so fucking much to explore within that choice <3

In the world of women's basketball, there are few individuals who have made as significant an impact as Adia Barnes. As the head coach of the University of Arizona Wildcats women's basketball team, Barnes has not only led her team to new heights but has also become a role model for aspiring athletes everywhere. Let's take a look at her inspiring journey from her childhood years to her remarkable career in the league.
Childhood Years and High School:
Adia Barnes was born on February 3, 1977, in San Diego, California. Growing up in a sports-loving family, she developed a passion for basketball at an early age. Her father played college football at Fresno State University and instilled in her a strong work ethic and determination. Barnes attended Mission by High School where she excelled both academically and athletically. She quickly became known for her exceptional skills on the basketball court and was named California Player of the Year during her senior year. Her outstanding performance caught the attention of college recruiters across the nation.
Entering the League:
After completing high school, Adia Barnes received numerous scholarship offers from top-tier universities but ultimately chose to attend the University of Arizona. During her time as a Wildcat from 1995 to 1998, she left an indelible mark on both the program and women's college basketball as a whole.
Barnes' collegiate career was nothing short of extraordinary. She became one of Arizona's all-time leading scorers with over 2,000 points throughout four seasons while also setting records for rebounds and steals. Her exceptional talent earned her multiple accolades including All-Pac-10 honors and recognition as an All-American player.
Career in the League
Following an illustrious college career, Adia Barnes set out to make waves at professional level by entering the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) draft in 1998. She was selected as the second overall pick by the Sacramento Monarchs, marking a significant milestone in her career.
During her time in the WNBA, Barnes played for several teams including the Seattle Storm, Cleveland Rockers, and Minnesota Lynx. Although she faced challenges along the way, she remained resilient and continued to showcase her skills on both ends of the court. Her tenacity and determination made her a respected figure among her peers.
Transitioning to Coaching
After retiring from professional basketball in 2004, Adia Barnes decided to channel her passion for the game into coaching. She began honing her coaching skills as an assistant coach at various universities before returning to Arizona as an associate head coach under Niya Butts.
In 2016, Barnes took on one of her most significant roles yet when she was named head coach of the University of Arizona Wildcats women's basketball team. Under her leadership, the program experienced a remarkable resurgence. In just a few years, Barnes transformed Arizona into a formidable force within their conference and led them to their first-ever NCAA Tournament Final Four appearance in 2021.
Adia Barnes' journey from childhood dreams to becoming an influential figure in women's basketball is nothing short of inspiring. From excelling on high school courts to leaving an indelible mark at college level and making waves in professional leagues, she has consistently demonstrated resilience and dedication throughout every stage of her career.
As head coach of the University of Arizona Wildcats women's basketball team today, Adia Barnes continues to inspire young athletes with not only her coaching prowess but also with unwavering determination that anything is possible with hard work and perseverance. Her impact extends far beyond wins and losses, it serves as a testament that barriers can be broken down through passion and commitment.

was going to make this long post about how college football is so special to me but then I realized all the things that make it special to me is what I could have if I had liked a California NFL team. like the city pride thing and the connection with other fans....I guess it wouldn't be quite the same since I don't live in any of the cities with an NFL team but still. I love seeing other Fresno State fans in the wild I love seeing them on TV bc I Know everyone who traveled to SoFi for the bowl game is from the Fresno area. Fresno State fans who don't have some connection to Fresno don't exist I dont think

Fresno State: 2022 LA Bowl Champions
Tumblr media
INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- — Jordan Mims rushed for a career-high 205 yards and two scores, Jake Haener threw two TD passes and Fresno State completed the biggest in-season turnaround in Football Bowl Subdivision history with a 29-6 victory over Washington State in the LA Bowl on Saturday.
Fresno State — which won the Mountain West Conference title — is the first team to get to 10 wins after dropping four of the first five. The Bulldogs (10-4) were 1-4 in early October before winning their final nine games.
Mims accounted for 232 all-purpose yards and outgained Washington State, which had 182 offensive yards. Both of Mims' touchdowns were on direct snaps out of the Wildcat formation.
Early in the second quarter, the senior went 4 yards around left end to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 advantage. In the fourth quarter, he carried it 2 yards up the middle to make it 29-6.
Haener completed 24 of 36 passes for 284 yards in his final game for Fresno State. The senior connected with Zane Pope on a 22-yard touchdown to complete the Bulldogs’ opening possession. He added an 11-yard score to Nikko Remigio late in the third quarter to extend the lead to 22-6.
Cameron Ward was 22 of 32 for 137 yards for Washington State (7-6).
Nakia Watson rushed for 33 yards and had the Cougars only touchdown in the third quarter, when he scored from 1 yard to bring Washington State within 16-6.

12/20/2022 CFB Transfer Portal Update #1
Starting last year, the NCAA Transfer Portal has become a major topic of interest and opened doors for players and schools that weren't available ever before.
Here are some of the highest-rated players by position to have recently entered their names into the college football transfer portal.
Quarterbacks: Hudson Card (Texas), Shedeur Sanders (JSU), D.J. Uiagalelei (Clemson)
Running Backs: LJ Johnson (TAMU), Trey Sanders (BAMA)
Receivers: RaRa Thomas (MSU)
Offensive Line: Ajani Cornelius (RI), Amari Kight (BAMA)
Defensive Line: Braden Fiske (WMU), Tunmise Adeleye (TAMU)
Defensive Back: Travis Hunter (JSU), Tony Grimes (UNC)
The Schools showing interest and why...
Hudson Card's name has come up mostly when talking about TCU as their Quarterback is leaving for the NFL and Cards is already in the state at the University of Texas.
Shedeur Sanders is probably the easiest uncommitted Player to project his destination as his dad, NFL hall of Famer, Deion Sanders recently accepted the head coaching job at the University of Colorado Boulder.
D.J. Uiagalelei has been getting a heavy recruiting buzz around schools like Fresno State and Hawaii. He most likely has an interest in these schools because Fresno State is closer to his parents and where he grew up while Hawaii is where his family was from before they moved to Southern California. Both of these schools give D.J. the opportunity to start day 1 with not as much competition as other schools that had offered him.
LJ Johnson joins a large group of players entering the portal that were listed on the Texas A&M roster last season. He was barely used last season only warranting 10 carries. With that being said 2 of these carries went for touchdowns. He has been predicted to commit to SMU by 247 sports analysts.
Trey Sanders was once the number one ranked RB prospect in the country coming out of high school where he played at IMG Academy. He joined a crowded running back room at Alabama where players typically have to wait their turn to get the starting job or get in the rotation. He was behind at least 2 other proven guys this past year which ultimately is the reason for his departure from the program. Sanders is from Florida and showed interest in Miami, Florida, FSU, and Georgia. Expect him to return to his home state.
RaRa Thomas is the number 1 receiver in the transfer portal after averaging 14.2 yards per catch with 7 touchdowns last season. He is a bigger body receiver who can play on the outside and has been gaining interest from school like Alabama and Georgia.
Ajani Cornelius is the top-rated offensive lineman in the portal because he has played out of his mind at Rhode Island. He has the size and athleticism you want to see in a lineman with massive upside and potential. He has shown interest in Oregon and USC.
Amari Kight is a tall and athletic tackle and a previous starter for the Crimson Tide. Schools such as USC and Georgia have shown interest in him. He is from Georgia and played high school football there before going to Alabama in 2019.
Braden Fiske is a 6'5 310-pound defensive lineman at the top of everyone's recruiting priority. He has recently shown interest in Texas A&M and USC. USC could be a good fit because of their need for defensive lineman and help on the defensive side of the ball.
Tunmise Adeleye is a big-body interior D-lineman who has posted multiple pictures with USC's head Coach Lincoln Riley at his house for recruiting visits. This would be a huge get for the trojans as they need help filling interior gaps and stopping the run. Knowing this, he has also grew a relationship with the coaching staff at Auburn.
Travis Hunter was the number one player in the class of 2021 and committed to Jackson State to play for Deion Sanders. He played like a top talent in 2022 and will look to continue showcasing his talent as well as develop at a power 5 school. Colorado is the favorite to land Hunter as Deion Sanders recently accepted the Coaching job there. He named Alabama, USC, and Miami as potential transfer destinations as well.
Tony Grimes is a plug-in starter for any defense in the country. He has proven that he is a top corner and has gained a lot of attention from schools in every conference. Texas A&M, USC, Alabama, and Georgia are considered the front runners for the talented North Carolina DB.
I will follow up this blog with updates on commitment decisions as well as the cover players that entered the transfer portal since this first update. If you have any questions, concerns, or players and schools you suggest I cover, please leave a comment or email [email protected]. Thank you for reading. Until next time.
The following is a link to the 247 sports list of players in the transfer portal with constant updates and news.
