Homeowner transforms floor with Frenchic paint – you won't believe it's not tiles
Looking to make a lasting impression with your hallway decor? After seeing this impressive transformation you’ll be ordering Frenchic paint and a tile stencil on next day delivery! The only extra thing you’ll need is patience.
It’s so impressive, and even more so by the fact it cost roughly £19 in total.
More ideas: 5 hallway decorating mistakes we’re probably all making – how to solve them
Vivienne Bowerbank, a married mum of two who works for the emergency services, decided to revamp her hallway. She’s given the small space a splash of paint, and with that a ‘wow’ factor – that it certainly didn’t have before.

Even for a small surface space, replacing laminate wooden flooring is not cheap. Rather than paying out for expensive new flooring Vivienne transformed her hallway using Frenchic paint.
Telling Latest Deals, ‘My sister had told me about a paint called Frenchic which has no smell and is non-toxic – which you can paint over virtually anything.’
‘I became a fan in their forum and enjoyed seeing what other people were doing and the colours used.’ Inspired she set to work…

‘After seeing another Frenchic user achieve a floor stencilling, I wanted to attempt it on my hallway.’ Describing the space as having, ‘old chipped laminate flooring’. Remarking, ‘I figured if it turned out awful, I’d just buy some vinyl flooring instead.’
Vivienne prepped the floor by giving it a coat of the Alfresco paint. She kept things cheap by using what was leftover after painting her kitchen.
‘I began by painting the floor in ‘Swanky Pants’ with a small roller. Once dry, I started the stencil with the ‘Blackjack’ colour.’

‘I ordered a stencil for £8 from eBay. I visited my local stockist and bought the Frenchic stencil brush and some Blackjack 750ml tins and still had leftover Swanky Pants from painting the kitchen.’
‘I did it each time my toddler went for his two-hour afternoon nap,’ she explains. ‘Sometimes a few stencils when he went to bed as it was impossible to do when he was awake.’

Rightly so Vivienne is so happy with how her hallway has turned out. ‘I could have opted for vinyl flooring which was going to cost me around £100 plus labour. But it cost me just my time and roughly £19 to complete my floor.’

Can't afford a new velvet sofa? This savvy DIY fan spent just £38 transforming her old one
What a feat in upcycyling furniture! This savvy mum had her eye on a crushed velvet sofa for her home, but couldn’t justify spending £1000 on it. Instead Becky Johnson, a mum of one from Brighton, decided to reupholster her existing sofa – getting the look she desired, all for a jaw-dropping cost of just £38!
Now that is what you call impressive, pocketing a saving of £962.
More brilliance: Mum transforms sofa using Frenchic paint – left over from painting front door!
‘I’ve been wanting a crushed velvet sofa for a long time’ Becky explains to Latest Deals. ‘After looking online I just couldn’t afford over £1,000 for one. There was nothing wrong with the sofas I already had – they just needed updating to match the rest of my decor.’
Becky’s red sofa before

Determined to get the look for less Becky searched eBay for material to try her hand at reupholstery – finding a crushed velvet fabric at a bargain cost of £38 for 10 metres.
Due to a penchant for crafting she already had a staple gun indoors, explaining ‘I thought ‘well, if I spend £38 and it doesn’t come out ok then I haven’t lost a massive amount’.

Becky details, ‘I made sure to cut the fabric to size before applying it to the sofa and left about eight centimetres of extra fabric either side of the fabric. This was so that once I stapled the fabric into place, I could then use the extra fabric to wrap over the staples.’
Going on to Wonderweb them into place using an iron, to give a clean finish with no stitches showing. She explains, ‘I had an old sheet over the fabric before I ironed it into place to fasten it, as the iron would ruin the fabric and this gave a really tidy, staple-free look.’
Any top tips? ‘I’d advise making sure you apply a lot of pressure while putting the staples into the frame – as without this it won’t hold and the staples will just pop out’ she adds.
Buy now: Wonderweb Extra Strong Hem Tape, £2.83, Amazon

‘It took me about three days to complete with doing bits here and there, with a small child to pre-occupy and work around’ Becky recalls. ‘The main advice I’d give is just to go for it! I never in a million years thought it would come out the way it did, but it was so easy and I loved doing it.’
‘Now I have a brand new looking sofa for £38. You don’t need to spend thousands to get something you have your heart set on.’
It doesn’t even look like the same sofa to be honest?! A throughly impressive DIY job, nice one Becky!
Another example: See how an easy hack can totally transform a dated sofa – you won’t believe the results
Do you have a sofa you’s like to revamp? We hope seeing Becky’s brilliant handiwork will inspire you.

Where to buy paint online – and all the best paint deals on Dulux, Farrow & Ball, Crown and more
These next few months are the perfect time for a spot of DIY-ing and redecorating. However, if you don’t already have paint at home, you’ll need to be quick to if you’re hoping to buy paint online.
Related: This bathroom makeover proves the power of a painted ceiling – the result is lush!
During the lockdown, you should only be going outside to shop for essentials. Sadly, despite our personal beliefs, paint doesn’t qualify as essential.
So if you’re are hoping to pick up a pot of terracotta or dark green paint you’ll need to go online. However, it’s not quite as simple as that at the moment.
Paint is selling out fast at many of our favourite DIY stores. Some stores have stopped selling it online altogether, for example, B&Q has limited their online range to essential repair supplies. However, there are still plenty of place where you can order a pot or even snap up a bargain deal.
If you can only get hold of a tester pot or small pot of paint, there are plenty of little makeovers you can do. Trying out the painted door frame trend that is sweeping Instagram is a quick and easy project that will revamp the house with minimal paint and effort.
Or why not get super creative and create a leopard print feature wall in your children’s room with the genius celery hack. Two pots of tester paint should be enough to cover a whole wall, if you are struggling to buy a 1 litre pot.
Here is our rounded up of a few of the places where you can still buy paint online.
Where can I buy paint online?
Homebase
The DIY superstore is still selling tins of paint. Better yet, they are currently offering a three-for-two deal on Homebase paint. Most of the Homebase own-brand collection is still in stock and will be delivered within 10 days. There’s currently no online queue, either!
Homebase also has a good stock of popular brands including Dulux, Farrow & Ball and Craig & Rose 1829.
Wickes
If you need evidence of the boom in DIY in the UK, take a look at the Wickes website. Due to the high demand, you will have to wait in a virtual queue to enter the website.
However, the brand is still selling paint. They even have a 2 for £26 offer on Dulux paints, and 2 for £20 offer on Wickes own brand. But be prepared for a longer wait time than usual for delivery.
The Range
The Range usually stocks a large collection of paint. But, most of the standard paint pots aren’t currently available to buy online.
However, they still have a large collection of tester pots available to buy for £1.49. They are perfect for small upcycle projects, or this dalmation wall transformation.
Amazon
Amazon still has a large range of colours available to purchase. However, the online giant is currently prioritising essentials, so you might wait longer than the standard shipping time.
John Lewis & Partners
If you are willing to spend more on your paint, John Lewis and Partners still has a large selection of paint available to buy online. You have a full range of shades from The Little Greene Paint Company and Designers Guild.
Crown
You can still buy paint directly from Crown website. However, the brand has warned that due to unprecedented demand allow 7 plus working days for your order to arrive.
Farrow & Ball
Farrow & Ball is also continuing to sell paint online if you are willing to spend a bit more. However, they are also anticipation a longer than usual lead time for orders to be filled.
Dowsing and Reynolds
Dowsing and Reynolds are still selling their luxury capsule paint collection online. Prices can range from £4.25 for a 100ml tester pot, to £49.99 for a full pot. The range is pricier that some other brands, however, they are still offering next day delivery.
Frenchic furniture paint
The furniture paint brand Frenchic are still selling paint online. However, they are predicting a longer wait for delivery as they try to keep up with demand. However, the good news is they still have nearly all their extensive colour range still in stock.
Graham & Brown
As well as selling gorgeous wallpaper, Graham & Brown also sells a wide range of paint. Prices range from £4.50 for a tester pot to £32 for 1 litre pot of eggshell paint. They are currently not reporting any delays in delivery, so you should hopefully get your paint within five to ten days. However, they are no longer offering next day or Saturday delivery.
If you aren’t able to get hold of a new pot of paint, there are plenty of projects on our DIY and decorating channel that you can do at home with leftover paint at home or tester pots.
