He was placed there 25 years ago for non violent drug offenses. Scores of people who have been aware of Larry’s sentence rightfully believe he was placed in the worst prison in the country due to political reasons. The purpose this article appears to serve is to mock our valid attempts to bring Larry home from such an oppressive drug sentence. From the promotion of the Ronald Safer’s incendiary and racist comments about Larry’s sentence, to the marginalization of the comments from Larry’s supporter and friend Wallace “Gator” Bradley and myself- Larry’s lawyer, what is being done here is not honest journalism. Highlighting the opinions of a racist prosecutor and diminishing the comments of Larry’s supporters and community leaders shows what this particular media outlet’s intentions are- which is to stoke fear and mock our attempts to bring home someone who doesn’t deserve to continue being held in solitary confinement along with terrorists and mass murderers. As you scroll, look at the response to Safer’s comments we sent to the writer of this article (pardon the typo; affect=*effect; this email wasn’t initially meant for publication). He actively chose to ignore this and continue forward with publishing those idiotic and racist comments. All we ask is an honest appraisal of how Larry ended up in ADX Supermax in Florence, Colorado. I understand that the powers that are likely reluctant to admit that he was sent there for political reasons, but at the very least, it’s time to acknowledge that the racist drug laws that they leveraged to get him 6 life sentences in isolation have been deemed as unconstitutional by the Fair Sentencing Act. This country needs to reckon with its racist War On Drugs.
