Top 5 Healthy Cookies: Delicious Treats That Nourish Your Body
National Cookie Day is a day to celebrate the delicious and versatile treat that is the cookie. Cookies are enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds, and there is a cookie out there for everyone, from classic chocolate chip to more adventurous flavours like red velvet or snickerdoodle.
National Cookie Day is celebrated on December 4th each year. It was founded in 1987 by Matt Nader of the San Francisco-based Blue Chip Cookie Company. Nader wanted to create a day to celebrate cookies and to encourage people to bake and share them with others.
Top 5 Healthy Cookies
Oatmeal Raisin Cookies:
A timeless classic, oatmeal raisin cookies are not only a delightful snack but also a relatively healthy option. Oatmeal is rich in fiber and protein, while raisins offer a dose of essential vitamins and minerals. To boost the nutritional value, opt for whole wheat flour and reduce the sugar content in your recipe for a healthier treat.
Banana Nut Cookies:
The delightful combination of bananas and nuts makes for a satisfying and nutritious cookie option. Bananas provide a rich source of potassium and vitamin B6, while nuts contribute protein and healthy fats. Choose whole wheat flour, and moderate the sugar content for a guilt-free indulgence.
Peanut Butter and Jelly Cookies:
Channeling the nostalgia of childhood, these cookies can be made healthier by using whole wheat flour, natural peanut butter, and sugar-free jelly. The peanut butter offers a protein-packed punch, while the jelly adds a touch of sweetness along with essential vitamins and minerals.
Chickpea Chocolate Chip Cookies:
Surprisingly delicious and nutritious, chickpea chocolate chip cookies provide a unique twist to the traditional favorite. Chickpeas boast high protein and fiber content while being relatively low in calories. Opt for whole wheat flour and dark chocolate chips to ensure a healthier version of this delectable treat.
Carrot Cake Cookies:
Bringing a healthy spin to the classic carrot cake, these cookies are a delightful way to incorporate vitamins and minerals into your snack. Carrots are low in calories and rich in essential nutrients. Utilize whole wheat flour and moderate the sugar content to transform this treat into a guilt-free pleasure.

Revealed: The law firms with the best perks 2018–19
From swimming pools to sleeping pods — and everything in between
We asked the question ‘How good are your firm’s perks?’ to over 2,000 trainees and junior associates at the country’s leading corporate law firms, as part of this year’s Legal Cheek Trainee and Junior Lawyer Survey. Respondents then rated their places of work on a perk-o-meter ranging from one to ten — with one defined as ‘Ryanair’, and ten as ‘Mayfair’.
Ten firms secured our highest A* ranking. Here is the shortlist, listed alphabetically, for the best corporate law firm perks 2018–19…
Allen & Overy
The roof terraces (there are three) at Allen & Overy’s London office win rave reviews. And with a heavily subsidised bar that serves delectable spritz — it’s happy trainees all round.
When they’re not clinking glasses over closing drinks, these trainees have a complete range of magic circle essentials to sample. 24-hour gym, tickets to Wembley gigs, free tennis lessons and taxi rides after 9pm are just some of the perks on offer. Fancy brushing up on your violin skills? Well, there are “music practice rooms”, as one insider tells us. Fancy.
“Private medical care is fantastic,” adds a rookie. Indeed, the firm has its very own doctor (to deliver its legendary annual flu jabs), dentist and physiotherapist on-site to keep its trainees in tip-top shape. “It really is very convenient, particularly when working long hours,” says another.
Read Allen & Overy’s Legal Cheek profile in full, featuring its 2019 scorecard grades and firm review.
Clifford Chance
“There’s an endless supply of freebies,” says one Clifford Chance trainee, “you just need to know how to access them.”
Swanky gym featuring “squash courts” and “a dance studio for zumba lovers”, private healthcare, on-site dry-cleaning facilities, hairdressers and even hot dinners delivered to your desk after 7:30pm to keep late-nighters’ spirits high. Over the summer apparently every World Cup match was screened in the firm’s canteen. Footie fanatics rejoice.
The firm’s box at the 02 Academy is another highlight. Trainees can apply for tickets. To make the evening gratis they recommend taking a partner with you to cover drinks costs, because at CC “trainees never pay”.
Not to forget the firm’s signature perk — the firm’s very own swimming pool, which according to one rookie is “usually empty”.
Read Clifford Chance’s Legal Cheek profile in full, featuring its 2019 scorecard grades and firm review.
Freshfields
Where do you start with the lavish menu of perks offered by magic circler Freshfields?
As an aperitif there’s the cultural stuff, like two-for-one National Theatre tickets, and use of the firm’s corporate membership to the National Portrait Gallery. Next up are the ski trips and other sports tours abroad, such as a recent all expenses paid netball tour to La Manga, Spain.
The main attraction has to be the amazing health perks, the centre point of which is the “great” on-site gym. In addition to this, Freshfields employs its own doctor, dentist, masseuse, and physiotherapist, who rookie lawyers can pop down to see between deals. To round off there are the £15 meal vouchers after 7pm and free taxis home after 9pm.
Read Freshfields’ Legal Cheek profile in full, featuring its 2019 scorecard grades and firm review.
Hogan Lovells
Trainees love one of the best in-house gyms in the City. OK, so it’s in the basement but the “fantastic” Hogan Lovells fitness centre puts many private health clubs to shame.
When they’re not burning off the calories, the firm’s rookies are consuming them in the “decent” canteen, enjoying discounts at local lunch restaurants, and munching “excellent” cookies in the firm’s meeting rooms. Look out, too, for “champagne trolleys when the team wins a deal or new client”.
Read Hogan Lovells’ Legal Cheek profile in full, featuring its 2019 scorecard grades and firm review.
Kirkland & Ellis
Kirkland & Ellis’ perks sound like something out of The Great Gatsby. Corporate hospitality seats at the Yankees, Stewards enclosure at Henley, ‘Attorney retreats’ at swanky five star hotels with lucky trainees tagging along. Kirkland’s London office, located on the 19th-25th floors of Sir Norman Foster’s iconic Gherkin building in the City, is also rather glamorous.
Other freebies include free breakfast, a £25 dinner allowance after 7pm, paid taxis past 9pm. There is even a concierge service. Given the demanding hours, trainees may find they’re making use of these extras rather regularly.
And then, of course, there’s the money. That $190,000 dollar-tied NQ pay could soar even higher after a Sterling plunge no-deal Brexit…

Linklaters
From onsite a gym “that’s better than most Virgins”, to 24/7 food from the excellent canteen, and sleeping pods for those working on big deals, Linklaters is a mini-world in its own right. There’s also a doctor, physio, shop and dry-cleaning service within the megafirm’s Silk Street headquarters, where ice cream is on supply “most days in the summer”.
It’s one of the friendlier places in the City too, with “amazing staff in the print room, IT and the post room who go above and beyond and make trainees lives so much easier”.
For those stepping outside Links’ warm magic circle bosom, fear not, fun abounds. The outside world holds such joys such as “a day trip to Paris as a deal-closing celebration” and “free entry to all top London art exhibitions and private views”.
Read Linklaters’ Legal Cheek profile in full, featuring its 2019 scorecard grades and firm review.
Milbank
US firm Milbank has a neat list of perks to write home about. “I could mention the medical or dental care packages, but the free Costco membership clearly wins the day!” quips one trainee.
Plenty of stateside trips for the firm’s London lot are another attraction. There’s “orientation week” for associates in the Big Apple and the prestigious ‘Milbank@Harvard’ programme, which sees juniors trained by Harvard boffins for a week each year — nice jollies to look forward to. The jet set lifestyle continues: one rookie raves about “European retreats” and this year’s apparently took place in the sunny South of France.
“Does the salary count?” asked one trainee. Indeed it does. “$$$$$$$$$$$$$” adds a colleague.
Read Milbank’s Legal Cheek profile in full, featuring its 2019 scorecard grades and firm review.
Ropes & Gray
When you’re aged 25 earning £115,000 working in a manageably-sized London office of a US firm where the average leave time is a not too bad 8:10pm, and you don’t have to pay for your Deliveroo if you stay past 8pm, what more do you want? No wonder Ropes & Gray rookies are happy with their lot.
Another Ropes & Gray attraction are the numerous charity projects that it is involved in. Recently the firm’s London office has taken part in running and cycling challenges and had lawyers sleep rough for homeless charities and other good causes.
Read Ropes & Gray’s Legal Cheek profile in full, featuring its 2019 scorecard grades and firm review.
Skadden
Skadden is a firm which makes the A* grade, we sense, less because of the quality of its biscuits and away days and more, perhaps, due to cold hard cash. The firm’s NQs earn a whopping £118,000, which buys a lot of sushi/theatre tickets/champagne brunches. What’s more, all associates get their own office decked out in wood furniture at the firm’s London base in Canary Wharf.
On top of this, Skadden subsidises its rookies’ gym membership and provides them with a reasonably plentiful supply of “good social events”.
Business trips to the mothership in New York are also a regular feature of trainee and junior lawyer life.
Read Skadden’s Legal Cheek profile in full, featuring its 2019 scorecard grades and firm review.
White & Case
Healthcare hasn’t gone amiss at international giant White & Case. Treats include subsidised yoga, weekly therapist sessions and an annual health and wellness allowance called ‘Wellness Works for Me’. “£500 a year to spend on gym/exercise classes/massages(!)” gushes one trainee.
Generosity spreads further. After completing their training, which includes a guaranteed international secondment, rookies can take “three-month qualification leave”.
The money is not bad either. London newly qualified solicitor salaries hit a generous £105,000 this year.

Flights, massages and other freebies to enjoy on Tax Day
A parade participant rides a penny-farthing bicycle while dressed as Uncle Sam in downtown New Port Richey, Fla. (Andres Veiva/Tampa Bay Times via AP)
The deadline for filing your tax return and cutting a check to Uncle Sam is now hours away.
Americans got a little extra time to work on their returns this year thanks to Emancipation Day, a holiday in the District that celebrates the anniversary of the abolition of slavery. But even with the minor extension, millions of taxpayers may still be scrambling to crunch the numbers.
To help alleviate some of that stress, many companies are offering free stuff today with some deals lasting through the end of the month.
This year’s Tax Day freebies include the usual assortment of sweets, side dishes and other discounts. Taxpayers can also receive massages, shred old paperwork and potentially snag a free flight.
Deal websites such as DealNews and BeFrugal are tracking some of the promotions. Here are some of the highlights:
Book a flight. JetBlue is running a sweepstakes to give away 1,000 one-way flights now until April 25 to people who owe or owed taxes on their 2016 returns. (Although the airline also says in the rules that it is “under no obligation” to verify that people actually owed taxes.) Winners have a relatively tight window for using the credits, though, since the certificates are valid for travel between May 1 and June 15, 2017. To enter, fill out an online form providing your name, email and birthday.
Get a massage. Planet Fitness is offering free hydromassages, where traveling water jets inside a bed can help relax your muscles. You don’t need to be a member. Print a coupon from their website and show it at the front desk by April 22.
Shred old papers. Office Depot is letting people shred up to five pounds of old documents through April 29. Print a coupon and take it to an Office Depot or Office Max location. At Staples, you can shred up to two pounds of paperwork through April 22.
Grab a cookie. Great American Cookies is offering free cookies to people who come in Tuesday at participating stores.
Cool down with shaved ice.Kona Ice is giving away free tropical shaved ice for its “National Chill Out Day” promotion.
Munch on chips. Get free queso and chips at California Tortilla on any order with the code word “tax crunch.”
Bagels for breakfast. Bruegger’s Bagels is offering 13 bagels and two tubs of cream cheese for $10.40 through Wednesday.
Hot dogs for lunch.Hot Dog on a Stick is offering a free turkey dog at participating locations, with no minimum purchase required.
Noodles for dinner. Noodles & Company is offering $4 off any $10 order placed online with the code “TAXDAY17.”

The Best Tax Day Freebies We’ve Ever Found
There is an old saying that starts off like this, “There are two things in this life no human being can avoid”.
Not surprisingly, taxes happen to be one of those things. No matter what you do or who you are, you have to report your taxes, file the paperwork that comes along with it, pay the government once they determine you did not pay enough or you are on the flipside of that coin, find out you are getting some money back.
Whatever your peculiar case may be, Tax Day is hardly fun for anyone. We acknowledge that and the fact that the stress of the day can weigh on your energy physically and mentally.
This is why we think it is so smart that several companies in the US each year do their best to give back and provide relief for hard-working taxpayers.
We researched high and low and found some of the best freebies and deals you can take advantage of this year.
Note : Even during our research it was hard to find where some of these companies had all the freebies hidden. Your best bet therefore for finding out the best deals or freebies the last day taxes are due is to :
Sign up for company e-mail lists/e-Clubs
Follow their most active social media accounts to get the scoop on all the freebies and deals OR
Reach out to companies via social media to find out what they have in store as far as specials, deals or freebies go.

As you’ve probably heard all over social media by now, Canada has recently been named the World’s #1 Travel Destination in 2017 by National Geographic, Lonely Planet, The New York Times, and more!
The icing on the cake?
…It is also Canada’s 150th Birthday this year!
In honour of this exciting news, I decided to embark on a winter road-trip adventure to visit Banff National Park, located in the beautiful and scenic province of Alberta*.
*I should probably also mention that Alberta happens to be my home province… but I promise I’m not being biased! Just wait until you see the pictures, and you’ll see exactly what I mean. ;)
And, without further ado…
(PS, Be sure to keep your eyes open for an awesome freebie & contest located somewhere within this post…!)
Featuring five of Banff National Park’s most amazing outdoor activities, along with several fun photo highlights and more!
1. Johnson Canyon Icewalk
Operated by Discover Banff Tours
While on the Johnston Canyon Icewalk tour, you will have the opportunity to see many spectacular views of the canyon’s lower and upper icefalls! Along the way, you can also enjoy hearing about Banff’s natural history & local wildlife from your group’s knowledgeable and friendly outdoor guide. To top it all off, you’ll also get to enjoy a hot chocolate drink and Canadian maple cookie snack. Tip: Be sure to be mindful of where you step, as the walking paths are often extremely icy!
Single Adult Admission: $68 CAD*
Total time: 4-4.5 hours (Morning or Afternoon)
What the tour includes: RT bus transportation from your hotel to and from Johnston Canyon, Ice cleats (to wear with your boots to prevent slipping), hiking poles, a hot chocolate and maple cookie snack, and your friendly & certified tour guide of course!
*Receive an additional 10% off admission if you book online!
Johnston Canyon’s Frozen Upper Falls!
2. Scenic Snowshoeing Tour
Operated by Lake Louise Ski Resort
As someone who had never previously gone snowshoeing before, I was definitely looking forward to having the chance to try it out for the first time. Plus, what better way to do so than by learning to snowshoe right at the top of a mountain? Upon my arrival to the lodge, all of the staff were super friendly and welcoming, which made me even more excited for the tour. Shortly after registration, we were soon on our way up the Lake Louise Gondola! My guide named Lydia was super awesome, and throughout the tour, she shared many interesting stories with us about the history of Banff National Park, facts about the local wildlife and environment, and she also pointed out several animal tracks on the mountain, which was all very cool to see up close! The views on this tour are absolutely breathtaking, and the photo opportunities are pretty much endless. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is open to trying new experiences, or anyone who is looking for a fun alternative to skiing or snowboarding!
Check out Lake Louise Ski Resort’s website for a 15% off coupon.
Single Adult Admission: Ranges from $45-$75 (Full Day Tour: $159)
Total time: 2-2.5 hours (Morning or Afternoon)
What the tour includes: A sightseeing lift ticket on the Lake Louise Gondola (where you will also get to skip to the front of the line!), snowshoe rental, hot chocolate and a snack, and an experienced snowshoe/nature guide!
Views from Lake Louise Ski Resort
Avalanche Danger nearby!
3. Snow Tubing
Located at Mt Norquay Ski Resort
Calling all adrenaline fans! The next time you’re in Banff, you’ve definitely got to try Snow Tubing! I would describe it as a much more thrilling form of tobogganing, plus this time you’ll also get to ride up the hill on a magic carpet. :D I had such a blast at Mount Norquay’s Snow Tubing park, where they have specially designed tracks just for the tubes. If you’re feeling brave… you can even ask the staff to spin you on the way down, and you can also connect with up to 4 other tubes to go down even faster! It was such a fun experience, and I found it to be a great way to spend the afternoon on the mountain.
Single Adult Admission $30
Recommended time: 1-3 hours (Morning or Afternoon)
4. Banff Upper Hot Springs
Operated by Canadian Rockies Hot Springs (Parks Canada)
At an elevation of 1,585 meters (about 5,200 feet), Banff Upper Hot Springs is Canada’s highest natural hot springs! With a history of over 130 years, these relaxing mineral waters have been consistently popular with both the locals and visitors for generations. It’s a perfect place to go, especially at the end of a long day outside in the cold! (*If you want to avoid crowds, then a better time to visit would be in the morning.)
One Adult Admission $7.30
Recommended time: 45 min- 1.5hrs (Morning, Afternoon or Night)
5. Cave and Basin National Historic Site
Operated by Parks Canada
This National Historic Site celebrates the birthplace of Canada’s National Park system, which dates back all the way to the year 1885! While here, feel free to check out the fun and interactive exhibits, and explore the inside of the cave to find naturally occurring warm mineral springs. (Be aware… the sulphur smell from the springs can be quite potent!)
Single Adult Admission: Free with 2017 Discovery Pass, or $3.90
Recommended time: 1-2 hours (Morning or Afternoon)
During my visit to Banff, I was invited to stay as a guest at the Moose Hotel & Suites, which is Banff’s newest hotel (it recently opened in June of 2016)! Upon entering the lobby, I was so amazed by all of the incredible architectural features and its’ beautiful stone fireplace. Plus… The view of the mountains from our room was absolutely gorgeous! One of my favourite parts was getting to end the day by relaxing in one of the hotel’s rooftop hot pools during sunset.
Stay tuned for a full hotel review & room tour in my next post coming out in one week! ;) <3
Dress for the weather! Our Canadian weather during winter months is known for being notoriously cold, so be sure to bundle up if you’re planning a winter visit (The snow usually doesn’t begin to melt until mid to late April…. and sometimes there’s still snow in May!)
Book your visit early! Banff National Park is expecting a super busy year with a record amount of visitors in 2017, so save yourself the disappointment of missing out on a great tour or hotel deal by reserving your stay in advance!
The nearest International Airport is located in Calgary, which is approximately a 1.5hr drive to Banff (via the Trans Canada Highway).
Before you arrive, be sure to order your FREE Parks Canada 2017 Discovery Pass by clicking on the image below! :D
This pass will grant you free access to all of Canada’s National Parks in 2017 along with many other perks!
